Final cut general error

I took a screen recording with audio, and when i put it into final cut and try to render the audio it says general error. PLEASE HELP!!

Hi
OK - All that works in QuickTime - do not work in FinalCut Express (or iMovie either)
Open material in QT-player
Then start Inspector (cmd+I) and read Video formatted/codec: nnnnnnnnnn
What does it read - all of it ?

  • Final Cut Pro Error: 'out of memory'/'general error' on export

I'm trying to export a simple timeline from FCP but keep getting Final Cut Pro Error: 'out of memory'/'general error'. Exporting 5 sec timeline (yes, just a short trailer) via Quicktime conversion H264 at 1080. Strangely, if I export exactly same timeline at 720 its fine. Original media ProRes422 1080.
Have exported at 1080 before ok. No nested files involved; re-connected all media; no JPEGs involved; plenty of memory (all of which i have heard can be issues).
Any advice please as i've read all of the FAQs and nothing helping so far?!
Spec: New MacPro 12-core; 12 MB ram; 2TB drive; FCP7

Thanks for workflow clarity Shane, but when you export as self-contained QT movie, what do the 'Current Settings' refer to? Is this the current settings of your (source media in) timeline (ie in my case Pro Res 422) or the last settings used by the export? Apparently 'If you deselect the Recompress All Frames option and choose Current Settings from the Setting pop-up menu, Final Cut Pro simply copies frames from existing media files into the new file with no recompression.' But when i did this I got a 994.1 MB QT movie, which, when i got 'more info' told me MPEG-2 Video (?!) Apparently a compressed file when its supposed to be uncompressed (?!) When i exported manually setting to Pro Res I got 6.77 GB. Clearly uncompressed Apple ProRes 422 (HQ). Do i have to manually set settings to Pro Res to match my source media and ensure i get an uncompressed file? Im searching boards to get some clarity on this too: all references so far advise using 'current settings' but dont actually say what they are.

Nothing besides "operation couldn't be completed?" No error message?

  • RE:  final cut quicktime error -50

Possible solution to the Quicktime Error -50
Go to the Final Cut application the the Apps folder and get info. (Command I) under the "General"  heading directly under neath the "Copyright" there is a box the says "Prevent App Nap" check this box.  Apparently, according to Apple, who I spent copious amount of time talking to this evening, checking this box prevents the program from slowing down when the computer goes to sleep. Wether this holds any water I don't know, but it works

    A couple of other thoughts:
How are you exporting? Have you tried exporting Share>Master File?
Does this problem occur with other projects?
    Are you using optimized media?
If you find using optimized and exporting a master file fails with the same error, and it happens with all projects, I would then create a new user account and test a project from that account.

  • New iMac and Final Cut Pro Error

Just got a new 20" iMac. It comes with a ATI Radeon XT graphics card. I used Migration to transfer all apps and files from my old 17" iMac G4. When I launch Final Cut on the new iMac I get the following configuration error message:
This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing. AGP graphics card.
Re-installing Final Cut from disc gives the same message.
Anyone have any suggestions? If this iMac doesn't work with Final Cut I will be taking it back immediately.
    Thanks

For anyone else that is having problems with FCP 4/4.5 then check this out
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/feedback/finalcut_pro_on_oldmacs.html
I posted my problem over in the FCP discussions and someone gave me this link which works perfectly.
Instead of deleting the strings that are listed, there is one for an AGP graphics cards:
    <key>AELRequiredIOPCIDevice</key>
    <string>AGP</string>
just delete those two lines and save the file and you're set. You'll have to do this for both FCP and Compressor, I"m not sure about Cinema Tools b/c I don't have it loaded on my mac so you may want to check that out.

  • Frustating Import over iMovie as Final Cut throws errors

I have recorded some WOW videos (using Apple intermediate codec, 25 fps) and Final Cut Pro fails, if I try to import the file directly.
But iMovie imports it without any problem. Export to XML works sometimes, sometimes not. Exporting to Quicktime (using Apple Intermediate, 25 fps) from iMovie and then importing this file in Final Cut Pro is the only solution.
I'm really disappointed that a big suite like Final Cut Pro is NOT able to import files, that iMovie imports without problems.
Apart from this every application I tried (Quicktime, Cinema Tools etc.) is able to open the file.
Error message Final Cut Pro is in german:
Dateifehler: 1 Datei(en) erkannt, Zugriff auf 0 verweigert, 1 unbekannt
Translated this may be something like
File error: 1 file(s) identified, Access on 0 denied, 1 unknown

Sorry, but why should I call those video guys. It works for most of the programs and if FCP is pickier, than at least I expect, that it can do the same transformation as I'm doing with a workaround (import into iMovie, export again and import it into FCP)
I've no problem if FCP tells me it has to correct some characteristics to fit with the desired FCP quality. But giving me strange error messages and not doing anything is a simple malfunction for this price I paid.
And I have a workaround, so why start with more workarounds.
I would like to have a solution. But Apple is not available directly, so I can claim this malfunction or do you have a mail address, where you can claim bugs in FCP?
Thanks for all your good intentions, but I want a program that works or at least tells me clearly, which standard is not fulfilled by the video I want to import (and why other Apple programs are able to deal with it). Especially if the price is not just a few dollars.

That solution worked like a charm on the MAC workstations but it still does not work on the Windows XP workstations. Is there anything that addresses that issue?

  • Final Cut Server Error Result Too Large

In Final Cut Server when trying to check out a project or add files to a project i get the following error ::
Error: could not read block 5469422 of relation 1663/16385/16653: Result too large
I have seen similar post's but no resolution.
Final Cut Server on Xserve 10.5.8
    XSAN 2.2
Present on all 12 client machines

Does this occur only on specific projects or all projects?  If it only happens on a specific project it's likely a invalid asset in which deleting and re-cataloging it would be the simplest solution.  If this happens with any asset you try to check out, then there may be a larger database issue and you may consider restoring from a backup.

  • Final cut express error insufficient disk space to render.

I have my final cut express projects saved to external hard drives. When working on a project and I try to render the file I am receiving the error message of insufficient space to render but I have over 25 gigs on my external hard drive. I can save the file but not render it. I have tried restarting computer and hard drive but problem continues. Any suggestions? I only have 4 gigs of space on my internal hardrive.

Make sure System Settings is correctly set to the external drive. You do not have enough space on your system drive. It is heavily fragmented and likely to cause serious problems. You should keep about 10% or more of the system drive free for the OS to work with.

  • Final Cut X Error -50

I need help. When I go to export a 4min video at 20% i get an error. I have run into this problem before but the way I fixed in the past is no longer working...
Here is what I have tried:
    Deleting Render Files
    Duplicating Project
Turning off auto render and just exporting
Searching for slowdown clips and making them normal speed
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!

  • HT203477 Final cut pro error -50

When exporting FCPX 10.0.9 i get the error -50. I used to get error -1 but I fixed that by trashing my render files. Now I get this when trying to export to apple devices. Any suggestions?

    I resolved it.
I  was trying to export my video in two sizes at once; 720p and a 1080p. For the 720p, I had the "Add to iTunes" selected under preferences but for the 1080p I selected "Do nothing". The 720p got the error -50 but the 1080p worked. I changed the 720p preference to "Do nothing" and it worked.

  • Final Cut Pro Error -- Mocha?

Hey guys. I'm a freelance video editor and I use FCPX. I've exported videos before with no problem, but updated FCPX today and tried to export a video. I get this obnoxious warning that is shown below.
The video exports just fine, but when I try to view it I get this prompt.
I've also tried uploading it directly to Vimeo/Youtube, and all goes well until 99% where I get a "Failed" or an "Error."
    What is this?
I have and own After Effects CS6 but IDK what Mocha is.. This has never happened before exporting this video.

Something happens durning the install of AE CS6 that changes the preference, I think. I'm not sure why, because if you are using Mocha, you probably are not tracking .mp4 files, you are probably bringing in a .mov. Glad I could help!

  • Color Correcting in Final Cut general question

I am finding I'm at the end of a long process with my feature film and I'm preparing to output and yet again I've run up against a wall of my ignorance...
    1. It's a dv film I don't want to just output the film and then apply a color correct as I'm afraid of a lot of clipping...so I'm doing the individual clips through the film and I'm finding a lot of them I have to limit the rgb to 90 some go as low as 88, some are just fine at 100 or 97...it was shot on the dvx100 and I looked up the dvx and see it is geared for superwhite...but I want to prepare my film for broadcast...I wonder though if this is why I'm getting a lot that I have to limit the rgb to 90??? I wouldn't have known to tell the DP please don't use the superwhite settings.
So am I doing this right?
After I output the whole thing, do I color correct the quicktime again when I letterbox it (it's 720x480 to be letterboxed to 1:85:1) before encoding it for the mpeg2? Or if I'm doing it this way is it not necessary?
    Thank you

Also is it stupid to do this when I already went through the film and applied color correction as what is bothering me is a lot of the color correct with the range check shows that little arrow that shows it's on the edge...those are the clips I'm bringing down to code because a lot of them the rgb is too hot...for just preparing a professional dv is it necessary to do what I'm doing?
I really want to prepare it once and not do different color corrects again so if what I'm doing above is correct for broadcast quality though it's going to look more muted on a dvd but maybe that's my confusion as many of the bright hilights giving it that look are on the verge or are clipped.
