Final Cut green screen key in HD.  Good Enough?

This basically is my question.  Some of this is too complicated.  I'd rather not do AE and Automatic Duck if possible.  I might have to go into my own pocket have someonee come in here and show me what to do.  I think FCP would save me time.  Would it?

The are tons of video tuts on youtube and the web on how to use a green screen program.
Here is a tut by Video Copilot's Andrew Kramer. Even tho it is for After Effects you can translate it over to Motion.

  • Where is the green screen key in Premier Elements 10 for Mac?

Anybody know where the green screen key feature is?  Or how to edit green screen videos?  Plenty of tutorials on YouTube but I can't find the Green Screen effect.  Thanks.

There are some PrE Effects, that are only available on the PC, though not for the Mac, but I do not have a list handy,
I do not recall if Green Screen Keying might be one of them.
Perhaps our MOD, Steve Grisettin, who is fully X-platform, can comment.
    Good luck,

  • Where is the green screen keying effect in Premiere Elements 12 for Mac?

I have installed Premiere Elements 12 on My Mac, and I can't find the green screen keying effect in the efx window. Is this only available in the Windows version, or is it somewhere else in this version?

    mgeiser
Premiere Elements 12 Mac does not come with ChromaKey, GreenScreen Key, or BlueScreen Key.
Videomerge is not a renaming of GreenScreen Key. It is just a substitute suggested by some for ChromaKey, GreenScreen Key, or BlueScreen Key that are not included in Premiere Elements 12 Mac.
If you want a substitute for ChromaKey, GreenScreen Key, or BlueScreen Key, I would suggest that you look at the Difference Matte under fx Effects/Keying/.
Please check out my how to on that.

It has gotten a lot of good feedback from Premiere Elements Mac users.
Please let us know the outcome.
    Thank you.

  • Im just wondering does adobe premiere pro cs3 have green screen key

well im doing some comparisons before I purchase and im wondering if they had a green screen key in adobe cs3 thanks

There is a Chroma Key effect, but it is not as good as the one in Ultra - which comes with it. Or, as good as Keylight, a part of After EFfects.

  • Green Screen keying real-time.

Hello, my boss is starting to do some green screen work. Besides little low-budget comedy skits, I don't know a professional work flow for this.
What tools (hardware/software) do I need to preview the green screen key while we are shooting. If I didn't word that correctly... While I'm shooting somebody in front of the green screen, how can I get a real-time preview of my background while shooting in real-time so I know the subject is in the right place and lit correctly.
We'll purchase moderately prices solutions or rent pricey solutions.
    Thanks for your time!

Thanks for the reply. Glad you asked. Please check out my blog post on the use of the Difference Matte, especially for the Premiere Elements Mac users who run into this Windows Only situation.
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE11: Difference Matte As Substitute for Green or Blue Screen Key
We are not Adobe. Rather user to user. So, I am not sure why these keying features are not included in Premiere Elements Mac.
Please review and consider the above, and, if any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
    Best wishes.

  • Can u upgrade Final Cut studio product key from a G-5 platform to a new intel processor?

Can u upgrade Final Cut studio product key from a G-5 platform to a new intel processor?

Not sure here ... you want to upgrade Final Cut Studio or do you want to move the version you have to an Intel Mac? Both is possible if you meet the system requirments.
    1. Upgrade FCS
The Final Cut Studio upgrade provides an upgrade path from Final Cut Studio 2, Final Cut Studio 1, Production Suite, or any prior version of Final Cut Pro. Academic and Not-For-Resale (NFR) versions are not eligible for upgrade.
    2. Upgrade to Intel Mac
You may run the applications on one desktop and one laptop at the same time

  • Green screen keying layer does not export with rest of media in apple pro res 422

green screen keying layer doesnot export with other media in the sequence when using apple pro res 422

You really will need to explain this a bit more carefully, pretend we have no clue what you're doing, and phrase this in the form of a question. For all we can tell, this is exactly the result you wanted and you're just telling us about it.

  • Green screen keying not working?

Hey I am messing around with green screening and on my computer at home it was working fine.
Now (with the same footage) at my school campus.  When I apply keying and select a color... nothing happens.
I tried moving every slider in the inspector and some things changed (brightness/color) but the "green" never went away.
Anyone know why this may be?

I just tried it again on different footage that was working last week here on my school computer and nothing.
I am running my project off of a usb 3 flash drive if that helps on final cut 10.0.9

  • Green Screen Keying and Rendering

After I've rendered what appears to be a moderatly accurate keying for my green screen video using chroma keying and after I render random patches of green reapear in the shots and all my keying was for nothing.
    Any solutions?!?
    Thanks!

There are many variations that can be applied to the keyer. Keep in mind that you can also keyframe the settings in the keyer.
Without knowing anything about your footage, i could assume that you shot it in the dark and that is why you are having trouble. Is your footage well lit? With good contrast between the subject and the greenscreen? There are so many variables that it would be impossible to suggest a simple solution.

  • Isolate lips--what face paint color should I use for best green screen keying effect?

Hello there!  I am using Elements 11.
It sounds like I answered my question in my question.  Green, right?  But , face paint doesn't have the reflective, glossy quality that a true green screen would have.  Does that change anything?  Should I look for green face paint or would another color work better in this context?
Again, I'd like to isolate the lips of my subject.  The shot will be a close-up, framed to where it only includes lips, chin and nose.  Let me know if it'll help to provide a screenshot.
One more question...  Once I've removed the background and isolated the lips, is it possible to move them around the frame discretely?  Meaning, they appear here in bottom center and then suddenly appear in upper left corner?
    Thanks for your time!

    Thanks for replying AT!
I am using Mac version.  Good question since I do NOT have Chromakey.
To help us along, I have uploaded a number of images from a test I did yesterday.
I am getting some results but they are imperfect.
I do believe my main issue has to do with a lack of uniform LIGHTING.  As my subject's lips move, it creates shadows thus making it difficult for Elements to pick up the green.
I used Non-Red Key and then Garbage Matte to get the results that you see.
    Thanks!

  • Final Cut 7 Chroma Keying

I'm using green screen files that were mpeg-2 muxed converted to quicktime files using ffmpegX. I key them with a white background, but when I export to a Quicktime movie I lose quality and there is an ugly, pixelated white line around the subject. What codec should I export with? I've tried ProRes (LT) 60p and the HDV-1080i50 codec just to fool around, and in those the subject looks better but the background becomes pixelated and grey instead of white. It was shot on a P2 Panasonic, the original size of the media was 1920x1080, 75,000 bit rate. I'm sure the conversion of mpeg-2 to mp4 took the quality down a bit, but it seems quite bad now. Codec suggestions? Thanks.

If you shot with Panasonic P2 (DVCPRO HD or AVCintra? Guessing AVCI) then why do you think they are MPEG-2 compressed (they are not), and why did you use ffmpegX to convert them?
FCP 7 imports AVCIntra as ProRes directly via Log and Transfer. And it is best to use ProRes 422, and not LT, if you intend to Chroma Key. NEVER go to HDV...that's just horrible to do to nice AVCIntra footage.
What did you use to Chroma Key? You don't specify.
WHite background? Not green or blue? That isn't a keyable color. VERY problematic. You shoot with a blue or green screen if you intend to key. Not white.
Again...AVCintra isn't MPEG 2...WHY did you convert to mp4? Sorry, but do you know what the heck you are doing? Doesn't sound like do.
    1) Shoot AVCintra P2. If you want to chroma key...CHROMA means COLOR. White is luma. And the two professionally accepted ways of chroma keying are green and blue. Anything else an you have issues.
    2) Log and trasnfer that to ProRes 422. Not HDV, Not mp4. Do not use outside software. The P2 workflow in FCP is the easiest tapeless workflow, as it was the first one.
    3) Key out the color with the built in Primatte keyer, or with good third party options (DV Matte Pro, Motion, After Effects and Keylight...)
    4) Comp in your background.
    5) Export to your delivery format.

  • Difficult Green Screen Key

I've been having a little trouble with some green screen footage and hopefully someone can provide me with some pointers. Below are the zipped file addresses:
    http://www.themgnetwork.com/sample1.zip
    http://www.themgnetwork.com/sample2.zip
    http://www.themgnetwork.com/sample3.zip
The videos are 10 frames each and are 1920x1080 HD quicktime widescreen (square pixels) shot by a Sony XDCam. The footage is going out with an alpha to be included on a site (final composition will happen in flash), so I'm trying to pull as clean of a key as possible. The subjects will end up over a white background initially, which could change to a rendered classroom background. So, unfortunately, blending and softening with the background is out.
In the first two samples I'm having trouble keying with the shadows and reflections. The table, table legs, and the left subject's pants are approaching the same color shades as that of the green screen and/or the shadows. I tried combining keys, but don't know the process well enough to pull a decent key from the footage. I sense that there's a way to do it successfully but it's just beyond my field of knowledge.
In all three of the samples, the plaid-man subject on the right has a lighting problem on his left arm and shoulder. This excess light is causing him to have a partial grey shadow outline when trying to key him regularly (which is very clear over a white BG). Is there any way to circumvent/remove this?
My email is [email protected] if you need to contact me. Any and all help is much appreciated. Hopefully this post is able to help others as well
    Cheers
    Jeff
      Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Okay - I had a quick go at sample 1.
Obviously more time could be spent to make the key better, but that's your job... This is the project script and it illustrates holdout mattes, light wrap, and edge blurring... I used only the nodes that are basic to shake, but nodes like keychew can also help...
The Cow has some tutorials on these concepts: Shake Tutorials.
    hope that helps,

  • PP2.0 suitable for green screen keying?

    Hey guys/gals,
I have PP2.0/CS2 and AE CS2, but don't have much experience with After Effects. I'm planning a shoot involving green screen (chroma color green screen) and am doing some research. I understand PP2.0 is good with keying, but should I go the extra mile and learn how to use After Effects efficiently for this project? I have tracking and static shots planned, so I'm under the assumption it's gonna be AE all the way. Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

Kugar, as Harm says, PP keying is mediocre at best. If your lighting is perfect and you've gone to great lengths to avoid fringing on your subject then maybe the PP key would be OK. I recently did some in-PP keying and it was OK, but then my output medium was a small web-delivered flash file.
I'm a big fan of Primatte, but there is a learning curve. Don't even think of attempting it without their companion PDF that comes with the software. And the render times.... yaaaaawwwnnnnn. But for less-than-perfect source footage, it does come up with the goods.
Harm, I was under the impression that Ultra had been dropped from CS4?? Can you still purchase it from somewhere??

*edit*  The Adobe website says you can purchase the software Stand Alone, but I couldn't find it in the Adobe store??
