Final cut HD compatability

My previous laptops spec are still listed below and I used to use final cut express hd, i now have the latest mac pro and was wondering if footage captured in my powerbook will be useable if i get final cut express on my new mac, OR will I have to recapture footage? Thanks!

You'd have to transfer all capture scratch files from your old laptop to your new Mac Pro. The FCE User License permits installation on one desktop and one laptop as long as they are both owned by you, so there should be no need to purchase an extra copy of the program unless you want to upgrade to the newest version.

  • Intel and PowerPC Final Cut project compatibility

I have two computers, a laptop and a desktop, that I use with Final Cut Studio. Both run PowerPC chips. If I purchase a new computer with the Intel chipset, will Final Cut projects be able to go back and forth between the Intel and PowerPC computers? I spend quite a bit of time editing on the road with my laptop then get back to the office and copy the project file over to my office computer. When going back on the road, I copy the project file from my office computer and put it back on my laptop so I can keep editing while traveling.
    Thanks!

There is no compatibility issue between PowerPC and Intel as far as Final Cut Pro is concerned. You just have to make sure you have the same version of Final Cut on all machines, because older versions of Final Cut Pro will not open files created in newer versions. You don't have to worry about the processor.

  • Enable Final Cut Color Compatibility Further Washes out HDV!

I'm having a hard time with this.
Outputting a reference Quicktime movie (for later use in compressor, non self contained, HDV 1080i60) creates slightly washed out looking footage. Clicking the "enable FCP color compatibility" checkbox further brightens the footage! What's going on?
My monitor is at 1.8 gamma, is that checkbox further brightening my footage by bringing it up from where it's at to 1.8? This is really driving me crazy.

    Hi
Please tell more (or I'm not clever enough to get it)
Enable Final Cut Studio color compatibility
In QuickTime Player 7.6 (Mac OS X.4.11)
Under Preferences there are three symbols in my version
    General/Full Sceen/Record
And I can't find anything alike here
    Nor under the title QuickTime-preferences
which opens System-preferences and the QuickTime menu
Still nothing as FCS color compatibility.
Am I looking in wrong direktion ?

  • Final Cut Express Compatability

I own 2 Mac computers. I have an iMac (looks like a music stand) and an I-book G4. Both are currently running OS X 10.3.9. I have just purchased Tiger (10.4.3) to install and start using the new features.
About 2 years ago I installed Final Cut Express 1.0.1 on both machines and have not updated since. 2 or 3 months ago I purchased the Final Cut Express HD Upgrade but have not installed it yet. I now read where there is a FC Express "3" and it's only compatable with 10.4. Finally here's the question:
How should I go about installing these applications? Do I update FC Express before installing 10.4.3 or go ahead with the operating system update and then install FC Express HD. Then, what's the difference between FC HD and FC HD-3? Should I go for HD-3 or go ahead with FC HD? Hope this is not too confusing. Thanks.

Thanks. Where do I get carbon copy cloner and how much does it run?
That's the ideal way. Clone the current system drive
to another drive using something like Carbon Copy
Cloner. That preserves your user and personal file
information. Erase the drive, install the OS. I then
boot off the cloned drive and copy the users back to
the new drive. I'll pick through the clone for other
pieces that I might want, but for applications I
reinstall most of them on the new system. Some will
simply drag and drop, but most are clean installed.

  • Final Cut Server compatibility

I got the Final Cut Server is it compatibility with OS X 10.4.11? I'm reading at Macworld site and it says is with compatible with OS 10.4.11 http://www.macworld.com/article/134657/2008/07/finalcutserver11.html, but Apple support says only with 10.5 server. Can it work on a regular workstation OS X 10.5? Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Luis

Hmmm I've never really thought about running it on Leopard (normal) and not Server. Is there a feature comparison online anywhere? Other than email I wonder what other considerations there are if you're in a smaller environment and not using OD etc.

  • Imovie/Final Cut project compatibility

Can you open Imovie digitized movie clips/bin in Final Cut Pro.
I hope so because, I've digitized a ton of media into Imovie, which I'm going to end up editing on Final Cut Suite.

Yes, you just need to find the iMovie QT files and bring them into FC. Don't delete the files! Importing them into FC just gives FC a reference to the original media. And, one big advantage to FC is the ability to log & capture footage. Very beneficial in terms of capturing only what you want (which saves HD space) and in terms of editing since you have already previewed the clips you have captured.

  • Final cut express compatibility?

hi, i have the imac below which i bought in august this year. I want to buy the Final Cut Express 3.5 HD but some one has said to be careful because the graphics card on this machine will not support it.
Is that true? I think this is the graphics card on my machine, ATY,RadeonX1600
and the final cut express specs suggest,
    * Any AGP-based ATI RADEON GPU
am I right to suspect my card is not the right spec?
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Just in case my first reply left any doubts or ambiguity - your iMac will work perfectly with FCE 3.5.
    They are an ideal combination.
You are probably getting confused with earlier versions of FCE which will still work with the new Intel powered Macs but will be a bit slow.
    Ian.

  • Final Cut Studio Compatibility

Does anyone know if I can save a project from Final Cut Pro 6 that is compatible with Final Cut Pro 5? Is there like a checkbox that I can make it compatible with earlier versions? Is there an option like this for other applications in the suite?
Or will the files just work with the older version (5.1)?
I need to know this, because me buying Final Cut Studio 2 depends on this.
    Thanks a lot,

  • Final cut Express: compatibility with Sony HDR-SR1 AVC HD new codec

Does anyboday know when Final Cut Express will be able to support the new AVCHS format used by the latests Sony HDR-SR1 AVC HD 30GB Hard-Disc camcorder? I'm hesitant to buy the camcorder until I know that apple will support this new codec. thx

This has nothing at all to do this with the file transfer protocol. These cameras use USB, because USB is cheaper. What you are confusing is USB support with tapeless recording systems. Macs support USB, and file transfers over USB. The FireWire/USB issue is not relevant to these formats, none of which are supported on Mac editing applications. Nothing to do with these cameras having USB or FireWire. Even if they had FireWire no editing application on a Mac would connect to them because the formats are not supported, not the transfer protocol. It's not the USB functionality that makes them non-editable on a Mac it's the formats themselves.
These are entirely consumer products for home movies, including the so-called pro-style cameras. They are designed for delivery of MPEG-2 formats, mostly DVD based. Record your movie on DVD, put your DVD in your set-top player and watch your home movie. I think all of them are MPEG-2 based. The only MPEG-2 based format you can edit on a Mac is HDV, which is a tape-based format, not a tapeless format. All HDV cameras support FireWire.
You might be able to convert the media off one the DVD discs using MPEG Streamclip or some other product. You might be able to transfer the data via USB off the hard drives built into the camera and use some other product to convert them to an editable format. None of that requires FireWire. Nor can the media in its current form be accessed from the DVD disc or from the hard drive by an editing application regardless of the connection.
If these cameras are ever supported for digital editing, then you don't need FireWire and can use USB for file transfer of the media to your computer in faster than real-time. But this is all based on tapeless digital formats that don't require real-time or less than real-time capture of digital data as you do from tape. These formats will most likely never be supported by professional video editing applications. There are already professional video solutions with tapeless recording and to date all of these support FireWire.
To say that Sony only supports iLink on past products is just plain wrong. All Sony's, Canon's, JVC's and Panasonic's professional product lines on all their upcoming cameras and decks that can file transfer over FireWire use FireWire and not USB. Some only use SDI. None use USB.

  • Final Cut Pro Compatability with OS 10.4 Tiger - Easy Question

Right now I am cutting a feature film on Final Cut Pro 4.5 HD, OS Panther (10.3.9). As soon as I'm done with this project, I'd like to upgrade to OS 10.4 because I will be cutting a new feature in HDV (24p footage using HDVxDV to digitize and convert to DVCPRO HD).
My question is this...does Final Cuto Pro 4.5 work in OS 10.4? Or do I HAVE TO get the Final Cut Pro 5 upgrade in order for FCP to work in Tiger?
    Thanks for the help.
    PowerMac G5, 2gHz, 2GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   500 GB G-RAID x4, Canopus ADVC-110, Sony DSR-45
    G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I switched because I wanted to use the MultiCam, plus for the integration with Shake (which I use extensively) and in the bigger picture, I wanted Motion 2 over Motion 1, so it made sense to upgrade to Final Cut Studio.
But if you're looking for any BIG changes in the user interface or effects, etc, don't mess with your smooth functioning system. FCP 5 introduced a new RT system that causes interruptions in playback during shuttling when the mouse is moved and from general anecdotes is just not as smooth as in prior revs.
For me, I'm happy I upgraded, but if it doesn't bring you any features you're looking for, you should probably stay with the system you're happy with.

  • Final Cut Pro Compatibility

I'm looking to buy FCPX for my 2010 macbook pro. It has a 2.66 GHz core 2 duo processor and 4GB 1067 MHz of memory. Would FCPX work alright on my macbook? I don't remember what the mac OS was when I bought it (lion, snow leapord, flamingo) but I haven't bought/updated my OS since then. Thoughts? Thanks!

Just to reiterate what Russ and Karsten said: try it out, anb seriously consider upgrading to 8GB of Ram. In my experience, 4GB is inadequate for all but the simplest projects, and even then you'll have to keep an eye on Activity Monitor and avoid running other applications simultaneously (most browsers are memory hogs, and can easily take a GB of ram, which with FCP X and only 4GB to start, is a recipe for the beach ball...)

  • Final Cut camera compatibility

I'm looking for a camera compatible with FCP 5.1.4 that isn't HDV. I'd like to record HD to a something other than tape for easier offloading. I'm even willing to settle for something less that pro-sumer for the time being. I used a client's Sony (didn't get the model) files that needed to be de-muxed. Once demuxed it worked fine for what we needed. Does any of this make any sense?
    Thanks in advance.

Some P2-based DVCPRO HD solutions were compatible with FCP 5.1.4, but there are a lot more options available for file-based cameras in FCP 6 & 7.

Could you please tell me how/where I can be updated about Yosemite/Final cut pro compatibility
when it will be released ?
You may wish to be more specific here regarding your question. Yosemite was, of course, officially released on 16 Oct '14, As to FCP, v6.0.6 still functions (but my Motion v3.0.2 is no longer supported).

  • Canon HF M400 and Final Cut Express?

I'm planning on buying a canon Vixia HF M400 camcorder and was wondering if anyone knows about or has had experience with its Final cut express compatibility.  I know that with some AVCHD cameras final cut does not recognize the imported footage even when using log and capture, so i just wanted to make sure i don't buy a camera that i will not be able to edit with.  if it matters, i plan on buying the latest version of FCE and editing on my macbook, using an external hard drive as a scratch disk.

    Tony,
I have a HFS 10 which appears to be similar to the one you are looking at, and I have no difficulty ingesting the AVCHD video with Log and Transfer into FCE (note that this is different from Capture). However you should note that FCE is no longer available for purchase through Apple. You can find copies of FCE4 available on Ebay, but you should be aware that it not supported by the latest Apple OS Lion. Additionally there have been many reports of difficulty using FCE after upragrading to Lion.
    Regards,
    Marc
