Final Cut HD produced video stops halfway on dvd player

So, I'm having an issue that I have never experienced. The movies that I have edited on Final Cut HD and burned on IDVD seem to stop half way on my dvd player. I've edited three different movies and they all seem to stop half way on the dvd player or just wont play on any dvd player... i can press foward on the dvd player but the movie has little squares all over. Apple has sent me a new dvd burner and I after burning a new disk last night, I had the same issue. When I open the movie and review on Final Cut, their does not appear to be corrputed video. I have also tried another brand of DVD+R DL disk and nothing. I need your help because my clients are getting anctious. thanks.

If the exported file looks OK in the QT player, you might try asking the question on the iDVD forum and see if anyone there has come across the problem. It sounds like a hardware issue though.
You might try building a disk image in iDVD and see if that place correctly on your computer before you burn it. That will tell you if it's an encoding problem or a burning problem.

  • How do I stop Final Cut from seperating video on timecode breaks?

Working on a dive video which has many start/stops breaking time code and final cut wants to create a new video for each one, how do I stop it from doing that?  I want just one long video, timecode breaks and all.

You can control whether start/stop indicators create individual media files by selecting or deselecting the “Create new clip on Start/Stop” checkbox in the Clip Settings tab of the Log and Capture window.
In the General tab of the User Preferences window, the option you choose from the “On timecode break” pop-up menu determines how timecode breaks affect capture, but the Warn After Capture option is disregarded to avoid capturing media files that contain breaks in the middle of an MPEG-2 GOP.
To choose how Final Cut Pro handles start/stop detection when capturing HDV footage
If you have not already done so, choose Final Cut Pro > Easy Setup, choose HDV from the Format pop-up menu, and then choose an Easy Setup from the Use pop-up menu.
Choose File > Log and Capture (or press Command-8), then click Clip Settings.
Select or deselect the “Create new clip on Start/Stop” checkbox to turn start/stop detection on or off:
Start/Stop detection on: When the checkbox is selected, a new media file and corresponding clip are created each time Final Cut Pro detects start/stop indicators in the incoming HDV stream.
Start/Stop detection off: When the checkbox is deselected, one continuous media file and corresponding clip are created, and start/stop indicators are ignored.
Note: The option to turn off start/stop detection is not available when capturing footage shot on a JVC HDV camcorder because the nature of the MPEG-2 stream requires creation of a new media file at each start/stop indicator.

  • Final Cut Pro 7: Audio Stops when clicking outside the program.

Just something that annoyed me and was wondering if their is a way to correct it.  Whenever I am listening to a song within final cut in  a video or in the viewer, it will stop playing if I click out of the program.  For example i might be listening to a song and want to go do a google search or open another program and as soon as i do the audio stops.  It will begin playing once i click back into final cut and everything works fine but its just bothersome.  If anyone knows a way to change this please help me out!
    Thanks
    Josh

well, I think if I remember correctly that might be a normal state, because FCP wants to "take over" completely. My systems are on MacPros with Kona Cards and I/Os setup for 5.1 output. I think I lose audio because the Kona wants only one app controlling it at a time. I'd have to be sitting in front of the box to figure it out. But oddly enough I'm actually home.

  • Using Final Cut Express for video editing without attaching external device

    Hello,
I am a newbie to Final Cut Express as well as Mac's in general. I am wanting to use Final Cut Express for video editing of files, but without an attached camera. Is there any way to have Final Cut Express startup without having it prompt for an external A/V device? I just want to do some basic editing and use the chroma key feature. Can anyone help?
    Greatly Appreciated,

    Hi Zak,
Unfortunately, I've tried that and I get into an issue that was addressed in this posting: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=836595&tstart=120 where FCE will show the splash screen and then the program doesn't start. I then have to delete FCE preferences and then I will get the Easy Setup dialog box prompt me again for choosing the external device.
I am looking for a way to use FCE for video editing of files that I already have on my computer that I created using iClone software and is in .avi, or .mp4 format. I get FCE to work one time without the external device actually being attached, but then when restarting the program I get the dialog box asking for the external device and if it's not there, the program just closes, and to get it to work again, I have to delete the preference files and go through the process all over again which is time consuming especially when this is at work. If FCE is not the right program, can anyone suggest a good video editing program that doesn't require an external device and is as good or better than FCE?
Thanks again for your help and support,

  • When using Final Cut Express, the video in the Viewer window looks fine, but when I insert the video into the Canvas Timeline it appears to lose resolution, and look fuzzy and blurry. Are there preferences or settings for the Timeline that cause this?

When using Final Cut Express, the video in the Viewer window looks fine, but when I insert the video into the Canvas Timeline it appears to lose resolution, and look fuzzy and blurry. Are there preferences or settings for the Timeline that cause this?

Thanks David. I had to convert the mts file to Quick Time (using AunSoft Conversion software) before I could import it into Final Cut Express. And I made sure I kept the size of movie (720 X 480 with letterbox) to compliment what I set my Panaconic AVCCAM video recorder at (720/60). Even after I fully render it, it still looks fuzzy in the Canvas window at the right that plays what I have editing down in the Timeline. A friend that edits some using Final Cut Pro helped me to narrow things down to this problem. This is also wierd. If my Viewer window at the left is set to 200% to get the person's head the same size in the Canvas window at the right we needed to put it to 400%. Does this make any sense. We think we need to control the Time line resolution somehow but cannot find any options from my manual, or the help, or in the various drop down menus. Do you have any clue? What is going on?

  • Does anyone know how to get final cut pro x to stop lagging?

Does anyone know how to get final cut pro x to stop lagging?

    Two things: 1) MORE RAM.
    2) What hard drive?
I am sorry if this sounds harsh, but the bare minimum to get decent performance out of FCP X is 8GB.
If you mac supports more, even better - go to 12GB or 16GB.
Also, the hard drive? Are you editing on the internal drive? That is also a bottleneck. The system drive should not also be used as a media drive; plus, depending on model, it may not be very fast drive to begin with.
You should use an external drive with a fast enough connection - USB3 or Thunderbolt, if possible; FW800 as a distant third. USB2 may also work, albeit it is a relatively slow connection.

  • Video stops halfway and goes to selection menu

I Have an ipod classic 160gb windows formatted.
While playing some movies, tv shows, or music videos half way through my ipod goes back to the video selection screen as if i pressed the menu button.
I converted all my video files using the same encoder to mp4 format for my ipod, also using the same exact settings bitrate and all for all the files.
Alot of the files play flawlessly there is only a scattered few that while watching it the file just stops playing half way as if i pressed the menu button they go to the video selection screen. Please help me with this.
I have a bad feeling that most of the people who experience this problem use windows.
Also i think i should mention that i just came from the apple store from getting a replacement ipod a week ago, i was experiencing music problems where a few scattered song in my 30gb music library just skipped and never played the track however they played on itunes on the computer just fine, the genius at the store said he heard of this error plenty times and didnt even bother trying to duplicate the problem and just gave me the replacement ipod. Also he mentioned all the times he heard of the problem the users where windows users.
Maybe these two problems are related somehow.
    Help????
I forgot to add that though the video files do stop halfway, at least for me all i have to do is select the file again and search for the spot where I left off and it will continue playing with no problem, also i have the option selected where the ipod remembers where i left off on videos and to start from that position but when this happens it doesnt remember where i left off and i have to search for the spot myself.
Thought that was vital info worth mentioning as well.
Even though i have a manual fix for it, its still an inconvenience seeing as how i payed 350+ for this piece of technology and i would prefer to get my full moneys worth.
Thanks again, hope there is smart people here who can figure this out. or at least apple becomes aware of this glitch and releases a fix.

Since i have so much music its hard to spot but i just recently noticed it happened to a couple of my songs as well they cut off half way and go to the next track, i have to select the song again and fast forward a few seconds past where it stopped so i can finish listening to the song again.
If i fast forward to a few seconds before it stopped it will stop again at the same spot, i have to go a few seconds past where it originally stopped so it can finish playing, its like its ram needs to be rehashed or reloaded or something.
If anybody else is having this problem please state if you are using windows or apple os and what ipod generation you are using.
Again i am using windows xp and ipod classic 160gb.
Im pretty sure its a windows only glitch.

  • Final cut server watcher never stop to transcode files

    Hi, here my problem:
first of all this is my hardware:
    1 xserve
1 xride (where are stored proxy files and thumbnails for final cut server) connected to xserve via fiberchannel
2 mac pro connected via 1Gb lan
2 macbook connected via 1Gb lan
1 macbook pro connected via 1Gb lan
1 nas connected via 1Gb lan
    this is the software:
compressor installed on all the MACs
final cut server installed on the xserve
we need this system to encode mov files and create flv video for internet streaming content; the FCS watches a folder in the NAS (where we save the mov files) and then creates the video assets and the flv files. the flv file created will then be moved to another folder (still by automations)
the FCS watcher (the automation that creates flv) suddenly starts to transcode all the file already transcoded. to make the situation worse, the FCS job monitor allows to cancel just one job at time... we have thousands of movs in that folder so you can understand how big the problem is , but even if i stop all the transcoding one by one, it restarts to transcode from beginning.
    well, thats all
hoping that it will not be more difficult to understand my english than to solve the above issue
    thank you a lot

well... yes I want track the file but if in the flv copy response automation I set metadata to something like "Media" I will have two assets of the same file.
    I will make an example:
I need to process the file myfile.mov (i remind you is a DV file); so I want to convert it in flv (i will upload it on my website afterwards, using as source the file copied by automation in NAS/FLV folder), successively I will put myfile.mov in my catalogue (with the Copy Response, No conversion, metadata set to "Media") cause what i want to catalogue is just the .mov file and not the .flv.
if I set the metadata in the flv copy response I will get an assets both the flv and mov file, but as told you _I just need the last one.
That's why i asked you if it is the right procedure or there is some other way less costly in terms of time and resources.
I hope you will see what i mean

  • Final Cut and iPod video

    Hey guys,
Trying to export a video for iPod from Final Cut. I have an "iPod: 320x240" option in my pull-down menu, but videos come out low quality a little disproportional. What's an advanced way to export iPod videos, and what settings do you recommend? Thanks!
    Sam

Any thoughts as to what might be wrong?
    Yeah, actually, it's my workflow.
I just ran a whole battery of tests and, from what I can deduce it's an issue of metadata. No matter what I do - even though my files are within all the specifications for iPod video - the only videos that iTunes says are iPod-ready were created either with the iPod preset (in QT Pro or FCP) or by iTunes.
So, unless you use any of the 3rd party apps available, we're seemingly stuck using the iPod preset in QT or FCP. And, if you're working with rectangular pixel material (SD material, in most cases), the only way to do things is to do the conversion in QT Pro. However, you have to be sure to adjust for non-square pixels.
If you're working with square pixel formats, you can export from FCP and not worry about distortion, but with SD stuff, it's not very straight forward. It can be done, but the steps needed within FCP - essentially you'd need to adjust all your sequences to NTSC 4:3 and then add distortion to your clips - are not worth it, IMHO.
Anyway, CaptM, to answer your question specifically, I take it you're working with anamorphic DV material? If so, I have nothing else to offer but the 'prescribed' workflow:
Export a reference movie from FCP
Open reference movie in QT Pro
Press Command-J to Show Movie Properties
    Disable the Timecode Track
Alter the Scaled Size (under Video Track > Visual Settings) to 720x405
    Press Command-S to Save
Press Command-E to bring up the Export Dialog
Select the Movie to iPod preset and press Save
You can alter the file extension of your file - either prior to export or after it's done - to .mov or .mp4, if needed. (The .mov extension, of course, being especially helpful if you're posting on a website)
This should produce the 320x180 file that you need.
Or did I miss your exact issue?

  • Final Cut Pro - Two Video Cards - Display Turns White

    MacPro Xeon 2.0GHz
    3 Gig Ram
    Two nVidia 7300 Video Cards
Two CRT Monitors and One HDTV
I have two CRT monitors attached to my original nVidia card. I recently installed a second video card and attached a third monitor to my DVI output (on the second video card)
I tell Final Cut Pro to display video on third monitor as full screen output. I can see my 720p (or 480p) display. When I press play, the entire screen turns White. (I've tried a CRT monitor, and my LCD HDTV via HDMI to DVI).
If I remove my Right CRT monitor from my graphics card and attach my HDTV (giving me one monitor and one HDTV) I can get full screen 720p play back. But I don't want to edit with one monitor! I am wanting to have my two monitor editing setup with the third monitor as my full screen display (720p).
Why does three monitors result in a white frame for playback? Do I need to configure something?

  • Final cut pro HD, application stops responding while attempting to open

I was using fcp 3.0.2 on a 10.3.5 G4, added the updates for os 10.3.6,10.3.7,10.3.8,10.3.9, then upgraded to QT 7pro, all yesterday. then upgraded to fcpHD from a production suite that I had but hadn't installed for about a year. now fcpHD stops responding while its starting up, always at the same spot when it says" loading audio filters", i tried starting fcp3 and it also stops responding during the application start up. any suggestions on ressurecting fcpHD or even 3? thanks, TB

    Welcome to the forum thomas93!
Post more about your Mac... when was the last time you rebuilt the startup disk from the ground up? Might download and read my article on just how to do this. It's in the first issue of the Creative COW magazine... free pdf download after registering here: http://magazine.creativecow.net/index.html
It sure sounds like your software is all messed up...
I'd trash your preference files for FCP found here: User/Library/Application support/Final Cut Pro User data folder, then see if it opens... if not I'd erase the hard drive and start over ESPECIALLY if your mac didn't come with Panther, and you just "upgraded" to it from an earlier OS long ago... You'll need to backup everything you want to save first... or install a new ATA in your Mac, and install Panther on it, then the FCP software you have. You'll not need to install any earlier versions either, just have your serial number for the older version you're upgrading from ready when you install FCP HD.
You also should be running QT 6 NOT QT 7 unless you upgrade to Tiger.

  • Can't export because of Error -50 but can't upgrade my final cut because of video card?

So I updated to mavericks later to find out you can't export in final cut pro unless you upgrade the software, my problem is that when I try to upgrade the software it says "you do not have the required graphics card"
So I'm stuck. What can I do? I Simply cannot export using any option  as I either get a compressor error -50 or nothing happens at all.
    I can't update the software. I can't export.
    APP NAP IS OFF

If the problem is with the graphics card then here is a list of compatible cards: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4664
What computer are you using? If it is an older Mac Pro 1,1 to 3,1 (early 2008) then the ATI Radeon HD 5770 should work. This is the one I've used and it has 1GB of memory. The more graphics card memory available the better. I read one account where a person had to go to 2GB of memory to avoid the spinning beachball but who knows what other resources he had tied up. For myself, I have a video-only machine and the Internet is disconnected when I'm editing and the 1GB worked perfectly fine. Oh, and with only 8 GB of RAM.
The 5770 cost $249 with free shipping about two years ago. Recommend not using a "flashed" card.
As for what to do for the interim, one suggestion would be to copy the Project to an external drive and find someone who would be willing to finish the share process. Other than that, it looks like you'll be dead in the water until the video card issue is resolved.

  • Final cut pro overlapping videos

    Hi
I am using final cut pro to overlap two video clips together. (the idea of the video is a fashion shoot with the model holding a scarf one clip she is holding one pose and the second clip another and I want them to overlap) I have used opacity to overlap them but as I use this the video loses its brightness any ideas? Its the sky that loses its blueness and it doesn't really look as good as I thought?

You could try composite modes... right click on the clip in the timeline and change it's composite mode there.  Different than opacity... might take you a while to find the right one.  BUT... it also sounds like a roto job.  Hard to do in FCP, you'll need to do it in Motion instead.
Hard to tell from the description.
