Final Cut Import

Importing Tapes (some 40min, other 60min) to FCP5. How do i change the preference where Capturing shuts off at the end of the tape (i get a freeze frame for 20min)

Read up on Log and Capture in the manual.
You can set the in and out points of your capture.
OR -- you can change the capture now settings to only the length of the tape.

  • Can final cut import .swf files?

I need to purchase screen capture software and have found Screenography from Vertical Moon. The only problem is it can only output to flash. Can final cut import flash and if not is there any other decent software out there?

Cheers. Just purchased Snapz Pro and its great.
    You might want to try:
    http://www.verticalmoon.com/products/video2swf/video2swf.htm
You have to export to quicktime or something else first then import into this software and it will convert to flash.

  • Final Cut import Subtitles

I'd like to know how to import subtitles at format txt to Final Cut, at same way that import DVD Studio Pro
    Help-me for question. Tanks

I think the only way might be to hack into an XML of a sequence with a text editor. With a very complex find and replace, you might be able to insert all the necessary code between you start/stop times and your text.

  • Final Cut Imports my clips with the wrong item properties

Ok, I have a really weired issue. I have a bunch of HDV footage that was captured. The source footage is HDV 1080p24, 1440 x 1080. Quick time reads it just fine, and so does Final Cut Pro on several machines, except the machine i need to edit the stuff on.
It is really weired. When I import it in to final cut and put it in the time line it turn says it needs to be rendered. And my sequence setting are set correctly. Because it works on other machines. So i go to check my Item properties and Final cut is interpreting the footage as 1920 x 1080 with Square pixel aspec ratio. When the frame size should be 1440 x 1080 and the pixel aspect should be HD (1440x1080). I am using Final Cut version 5.1.2, and I cant for the life of me figure out what the problem is. Can anyone please help.

I am going to try to capture HD1050p.60 video into my Final Cut Studio Pro Tomorrow morning. I have five tapes with an hour of video on each of them. I want to maintain my high resolution HD quality. This is the first time I have attempted to do this. I understand that I use the easy capture. I have read a lot of the posts I understand there may be a problem if the camera man did not leave gaps between the takes in that 4 seconds of the video is cut off. I asked him to shut down the camera between takes to save film but most of the takes were 10 minutes or more -- does that mean that I will lose the first 4 seconds of the video when I transfer? I also understand that I must import sound and video seperately. How will I ever be able to match up the sound with the video if they do not import together? The Camera that was used was a Sony HDVDVCAM 3ccd30fpm HDV1080i1DV. Can you please give me some advise as to how to do the import without losing the quality of my video. Also, do I need to set up the final cut pro for 16/9 frame width which is what my video is. Right now I have my studio pro on a 720 which is what the demo learning video was. I would appreciate any help you can give me. I have purchased a 250Gig Lacie to transfer my video to since I understand that if I put all of the video into Studio Pro it will be too massive to work with.

  • Final Cut import from camcorder

my son has JVC HD camcorder. he burns a cd .mod extension for me to edit and put into a movie. imovie will not read, cyberlink power director will read but is not Mac compatable. will Final Cut read ?
    Thanks

.mod is a musical file format. Is this a JVC Everio? Don't think any Mac application will play it. You might be able to use something like MPEG Streamclip to extract it.

  • Final Cut - import question

    Hi,
this may not be the right place to post this, but I do have and use FC Pro and just got a Pansonic DVC30 mini-DV camera. I shot several "still" mode pictures with the camera (which takes 7-10 seconds of tape). now I would like to import the pictures - assuming that its a high quality.
So far I can only figure out how to import them into FCP as a movie. Is there a way to do this or to use another Apple sw tool to do this? The camera does not show up under iPhoto or imageCapture.
    thx

    Thanks -
that's what I thought, but the camera user manual (and Panasonic IMHO has a lot to learn about writing better user manuals) - seemed to indicate that you can capture stills at a higher res. Now granted if the CCD's (3 in this case) only have enough minimum resolution for NTSC video, then there isn't much which can be done.
But if they overspec'd the CCD, resolution, then it might be better.
For some reason, the stills are recorded for something like 7 seconds on the tape. My only guess as to why they record them for this long is so that you can easily identify the different still shots vs. video.
This camera does not have a memory card or stick.
    thanks

  • Final Cut import problem

    Hi
I'm importing QT files which are h264, 25fps files in FCP. When I import they change to 10 fps and when I try to render I get a codec error message. Any ideas?
    Regards

h.264 isn't an editing codec, it is a delivery codec. You need to convert the file to a format that FCP works with. For an idea what those are, look in the EASY SETUPS, or, since you should be using Compressor to do this, look in the Advanced Conversion Settings for your options.

  • Final Cut, importing QuickTime movie

I have a Quicktime movie that was shot on a Sony Cybershot digital camera. I want to import it into my FCP project. It plays as a QTM on the desktop and it plays from the project folder, but when I import to the project, I lose the audio. Video is fine.
    Thanks for any help!

The audio is probably not in the correct format for FCP.
Use QuickTime Pro to export "Sound to AIFF" @ 48.000kHz.
Import this file seperately into FCP, or remove the existing audio from the movie in QuickTime Pro then use the "Add to Movie" function to put the AIFF version in its place.

  • Importing MXP into Final Cut Express

I can't import video recorded on my Canon HF11 in MXP mode into FCE or iMovie 9. I have Final Cut import set to apple intermediate codec 1920 x 1080i 60. when i try to log and import it crashes FCE. Any ideas please?

Did you do a forum search?
There are a lot of things that might cause problems. Audio set to matrix stereo rather than plain stereo might be a problem. Having Perian installed might cause problems. Capturing to a drive that isn't properly formatted can be a problem.

  • How do I connect my DSLR camera to Final Cut Pro's Camera Import?

I recently purchased a Canon EOS Rebel T3i. I am trying to get it to record directly into Final Cut Pro, but I can't figure out how.
It does not have a FireWire port, just a USB and HDMI output. I'm thinking it's going to need to output to the HDMI port and have some sort of interface between the Mac and the HDMI cable, but I would prefer to record directly using the USB cable.
I was wondering if anyone knows how to do this and/or has done it before. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Zane

I haven't got a DSLR but I think they probably import like most AVCHD camcorders.
You connect it with a USB cable and switch it on.
You then set FCP X to import the video clips.

  • Importing transitions from imovie to final cut problems

Hello, I made a musicvideo in imovie, it´s all finished with cuts and transitions but I want to make the "final touch" with balance, colours etc in final cut.
The problem: when I import the imovie project into final cut pro x the clips and the transitions changes the duration so the clips nolonger sync with the music and some of the clips are much longer/shorter than the original. I don´t want to do all the job again, editing and add new transitions in final cut as it already took me a long time......Anyone have any solution?

You can delete the transitions in iMovie and re-add them after importing into FCP X. Granted, this is some work, but it should not be all that much. It is easy to add a number of transitions and to set their parameters all at once.
Like BenB said, transitions behave differently in both programs, and they do not match, so this conversion can cause problems, as you are now well aware.

  • Importing SWF into Final Cut Pro with no Background

    Hi Everyone:
I've created an animated macromedia .swf file and imported
into Final Cut Pro successfully just as an .swf file. I can see the
.swf file animate in Final Cut Pro, the only problem is there is a
white background along with my animation. I've seen many slighly
related threads to this problem, but no end solution or work
around. any help? here's what i've seen in posts and other forums:
    - create another layer below your object and place a
tranparent color swatch box the size of your stage size
    - export the flash file as .mov with an alpha channel
    transparency
    - export the flash file as a .mov with an alpha channel, then
open in quicktime pro, then re export again as a quicktime movie
    with the "Millions +" option.
    - i've also heard something about having the right codecs, or
purchasing some other 3rd part software.
none of these approaches have worked for me. My Dream would
be to just import the .swf file straight into Final Cut Pro. I've
been exporting my flash movies as a png sequence and importing
every image into FCP for the time being. I'm also thinking about
just making the background bright green, because i think i just
chroma key it out, but i'm not sure how clean this will be.
    here's the related thread:
    http://www.kirupa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=242444
    Thanks for any help.

You need one of these: http://desktop.thomsongrassvalley.com/products/videoconversion.php to do it properly. The ADVC 300 is the best option for the money.

  • Importing itunes into final cut express

I just bought an IMAC with Final Cut Express to do all my video editing of my kids activities. I used Pinnacle Studio on my old PC prior to this but it finally gave out. I downloaded some music CD's I had into itunes and then tried importing the music into FCE. This is not working. I have no problem adding it to my imovies but it will not work with FCE. The music format is m4a which I think is typical.
I went to You Tube and watch several tutorials from some of fellow FC users and still cannot get it to work. There must be something I have to set up in FCE to get this to work but I do not know what that is. I been looking around the program and have not been successful. Any help any of you can provide would be great. Thanks.. Ron

Hi Ron, and welcome to the FCE Forum !
You should convert the audio files to AIFF, 48KHz (aka 16-bit) stereo before importing them into FCE. Neither CDs nor iTunes songs are in that format. You can use iTunes to do the conversion.
With a new Mac and Snow Leopard you probably have iTunes9. Open Preferences, then go to General > Import Settings, then select AIFF and set Custom Settings as 48KHz, 16-bit, stereo. Save the settings. Then in your music library, select the song(s) you want to convert and do Advanced > Create AIFF version. (Note: the format you selected in Import Settings controls what the Advanced > Create menu option does.)
