Final cut opens randomly in 10.6.4
since I loaded 10.6.4, final cut pro has been starting up periodically
You should be more concerned with finding out what is causing FCP to launch, rather than how to downgrade the OS. The OS is working fine here, and no doubt on many other machines around the globe. It isn't the problem.
What are you doing when it launches? Are you trying to open a certain type of file? Is there anyone with remote login access to your machine that could be playing jokes on you?

Final Cut Pro Randomly Shutting off after Minutes
Every time I open FCPX and begin editing it randomly shuts off after about 3-4 minutes. Regardless of what I am doing. I get no wheel or anything, it just shuts off clean. I am running the most recent update to Lion, FCPX 10.1 with 8GB of ram... this is really frustrating. Any thoughts?
#44: FCP acting weird - Trash Prefs
Shane's Stock Answer #44: FCP acting weird or unusual. Just not like is normally should
If the program was working fine, and now isn't, or just isn't working the way it should, the first things to do are:
1) Trash your FCP preferences. Download the appropriate version of FCP Rescue at http://www.fcprescue.com and run it.
http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/trashing_fcpprefs.html
2) Open the Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.
3) Shut down for 10 min. Go for a quick walk around the block and get SOME exercise today. Come back, turn on the computer and see how things are.
4) (optional) Do the Hokey Pokey and turn your self about. Results may vary.

Final Cut Pro Randomly Shuts Down
Today as I am working in FCP 6.0.5, it is constantly shutting down when I try to work in sequences. Any suggestions on what to check? This really annoying and of course I have a project to complete today!

Final Cut randomly reboots my Mac
Hello, I'm writing here hoping it is the right place for this kind of issue.
The issue I'm reporting happens since I updated my OS to Mavericks and therefore updating Final Cut to 10.1.1 - It occurs on a MacBook Pro Late 2011 - 4GB Ram, 512MB video.
The computer reboots itself while Final Cut Pro is running and while is booting it reboots again (while the apple is shown and the background becomes dimmer), then finally the OS starts successfully, Final Cut is opened again by the OS (since it was previously open) and if I don't Force Quit it, and let Final Cut open again it would reboot the system once again.
This behaviour is apparently random (doesn't always occur) and only with Final Cut - I do use this Mac intensively, often more than 8 hours in a row without experiencing any issue.
I also use applications such as Photoshop and Lightroom, experiencing no problem with them. I have been thinking that there could be an issue with my video card since I believe that Final Cut makes a strong use of the graphic processor, in a way that other applications do not (this would explain why it only occurs with Final Cut?).
I've also run the Apple Hardware Test that reported the hardware to be OK.
The battery on this laptop is dead, the battery icon has a cross on it and if I click it, it states "No Battery Available". I'm not sure this could be causing Final Cut to reboot my Mac, but I thought I'd mention it.
Is there anything else I can do to troubleshoot the issue? You need to take it to an Apple service technician or store.

Final Cut Crashed and then corrupted the file. So Final cut wouldn't open up. I tried reloading the backup, trashing the prefs file, systematically going through the 3 previous versions and opening them by themselves one by one. I found Final Cut now loads but each of the backups and files in the previous 3 versions won't load. I've worked on the project for 3 weeks. Im suprised the backup files won't load either!?! I've only rendered 1 low res version. I am thinking I will have to rebuild the project in Final Cut 7. That is simply too risky to have all my back ups not load up!!
I'm a little confused by this?
Final cut now opens if launch older projects. But if I actually click on the project it crashes. Im not sure what you mean by events? I've moved them from the events folder.
but when I open up and of the projects the FInal Cut opens but then wont load the project even with no events in the FInal Cut Events folder. -
Final Cut won't open project, stops at 0% or 1% while reading project
Smaller projects will open, but all of a sudden this large project (with HVX-200 HD footage) which I've been editing for several months won't open. Final cut opens fine but when it starts to read the project, it never gets passed 2%, and I have to force quit. I am running the project off of two lacie 500GB drives. What should I do?
Duplicate the project on the Desktop and try opening that.
Try opening your last autosave - resave and try working off of that.
Good Luck

Final Cut Pro HD project file opens slowly
I have a very large movie project which is connected to about 800 gigs of HD footage split between two Lacie Extreme hard drives. Everything used to open fine, but when I tried to open the project this week, final cut opens fine but then it gets to the "reading project" and it takes an hour just to get to one percent. It did open after 30 hours or so.
I brought my hard drives to a computer lab and the project opened there, although the computer soon ran out of memory. My project files aren't corrupted, and my hard drives seem to be fine...so why is it taking so long for the project to open on my computer?
I've also had trouble copying files from my hard drives to my computer and vice versa. The larger the file, the longer the copying stays at "0%, 1 minute remaining" until it finally starts copying, at which point it is normal. Could this be related? Thanks for responding.
I found that if I set final cut to play the footage at lower resolution and half the frame rate, the sequences would play without freezing as much, but this doesn't solve the bigger problem.
I have Activity Monitor open and right now it says Final Cut is using 8.4% CPU, with 654.2 MB of Real Memory and 1.76GB of Virtual memory. When I go to "Inspect" and to the Statistics tab, is says "Page Ins: 58398" There are also stats about Shared and Private Memory. I don't know how to interpret any of this.
I don't know that I have CMYK graphics, and what is multi-clip?
My hard drives are 80% and 95% full.
I will try duplicating the project and deleting all but the current version of my sequences. I will also try to use render manager. Are you saying it might help if I delete all renders and rerender what I need?
I did copy one sequence into a new project and am trying to open that now. It is taking a very long time...it will certainly load must faster than the huge project but it doesn't seem to have solved the problem.
Let me know what you think & thanks. -
Automatically open fcpxml in Final Cut from Safari
I'm trying to get Safari to automatically open a fcpxml from a web server, in Final Cut but I have not been able to get it to work. The file opens in Final Cut if I click on it in Finder, but not when downloaded from a web server with Safari. I've tried setting Content-Type to application/xml or text/xml with a filename ending with .fcpxml Anyone got a good suggestion to get it to work?
I know that XML is just text... Basically what I'm trying to do is a generate fcpxml files for each video file on a NAS server so when a user clicks on the link in their web browser, the fcpxml is downloaded and opened in Final Cut automatically (if they have the NAS server mounted) . If I download the fcpxml file and double-click on it (or drag it onto Final Cut in Finder), Final Cut opens it just fine

I have been trying for a few days to dump my SVHS camera tapes to Final Cut Pro X. Using the Canopus ADVC55 encoder fed from a Panasonic SVHS video deck into iMac firewire. The picture appears on screen but will not save as an archive atall. Trying to import into an event has a little more success. When it comes across a section of tape between camera shots without sync it either crashes Final Cut or randomly picks up the replay later or trims the shots down by about a minute. Not sure what to do to let to allow it to import a tape complete with blank sections. I have a Panasonic SVHS deck with timebase correction on output, would this help maintain a constant sync signal for the ADVC55 and final cut pro? Very frustrating just trying to dump videos to digital.
Footnote to this problem. Put a Panasonic WJ-EV5 video mixer inline between deck and Canopus ADVC55 and this maintains the sync for perfect copies. If the red light on the ADVC55 comes on during the import to event sync has been lost and FCPX crashes or aborts the copy in various ways with unpredictable files.
The import to archive still will not store the data.
Maybe Final Cut authors can explain why import to event works but import to archive does not.

Chroma Key problems with Final Cut Express 4
I had no problems with the Chroma Key in Final Cut Express 4 before. It was working perfectly fine untill I brought anther Macbook Pro last year in August. I installed it on the new computer and then the Chroma Key didn't work. Final Cut opens up and the other filters work fine but I can't get the chroma key to work. Any possible reasons?
I am experiencing an interseting problem with Final Cut Express on OSX Lion. I teach in a Mac Lab at my school. Today I was trying to teach Chroma Keying- which I have been doing for years - but for some reason the color selector would just not key out anything. I tried it on four or five different machines, and it turns out that ONLY my machines that were running OSX Leopard would allow the Chroma Key to function. I have two machines running Lion and the Chroma Key would not work on EITHER of them. I followed the exact same steps, and all of the settings were identical. The hardware was also the exact same package from machine to machine. I feel like there must be an issue with OSX Lion that is breaking the Chroma Key filter. Can anyone help?

Upgraded final cut pro 10.1.4 all my projects disappeared
I can't get any of my projects to appear in final cut - extremely frustrating. I can't get any of the files to open. Where is everything?
I upgraded from an early version of Final Cut 10 - from 2 years ago. I just had to rebuild my computer due to a drive that went down. When I downloaded the software, it asked about updating files. I said yes but I didn't have all the drives online so it couldn't do it for all the files and I had to say that I would do manually later. So when final cut opened, none of my projects were there. When I go to file/open/library/other, there are no files with that purple library icon. I can see the folders with the events and projects but it can't open anything.

Transfer Final Cut Pro X events and projects to external hd
Hey guys!
Can you help me transfer my final cut events and projects to a external hard drive cause my hd is fullok... i was thinking if the project looked for the media like
->user->final cut event->event->(wanted clip_
or if i grabbed both the event and project folders and moved them to my external hard drive which when you have final cut open it will see...
so i grab the two final cut folders in finder move them and then open final cut will final cut not kno what is going on?
because if final cut just looks for the event in
final cut events/event/(wanted clip)
instead of its original location (like windows would)
mac/user/movies/final cut event/event/(wanted clip)
then that would work?
it should work... does that makes sense? haha -
Final cut pro opens randomly in 10.6.4
since I loaded 10.6.4, Final cut pro has been periodically opening on it's own. Does anyone know how to reload 10.6.3

So I've got a problem.
I had to restore my system to its factory settings, and I got Final Cut Pro 5 a few years back when I was in High School from my video teacher, under one of those education packages that works for like 15 or whatever different computers to install FCP. So it's a very legal copy.
When I had to restore, I knew I couldn't reinstall the program, so I had to move FCP to my External Hard drive. I had been running it off my external anyways for a while and it worked fine, just because I needed the space on my internal for applications I had to run without the external. But after I restored and installed Snow Leopard, I can't open FCP. I had back'd up my computer with Time Machine before the restore, so I put the Application Support files from the backup back into my Library>Application Support folder. But it doesn't open, but this time it gives me the error code and what not. So if this helps anybody, here you go.

I took a look at it and couldn't really find what was going on, so any help is appreciated. The Final Cut software that I had installed was also the same software that we were running on our Macs at the high school. 3 of those Macs were iMacs with Intel processors. I didn't think I had been running FCP that functioned on the PPC Operating systems, because it's the same software that was working on the iMacs, but now that I think of it, we had PPCs running it too. I hadn't had any issues with it other than the occasional random crash that was solved by a program restart. If it was PPC based, wouldn't it -not- let me install it on the computer? Like I said before, I had been running it on my laptop with ease for a couple years with no large problems.
I had an issues like this when I tried to boot up my Adobe Photoshop from Hard Drive after I restored, and it was solved by taking my application Support folder and some other random files from my backup and putting them in my library. I assume that the movement of files is the problem and I'm just missing some minor things, but it says I'm running a PPC version of the software? -
I just updated my RAM (replaced the two 2 gig cards with two Corsair 8 gig cards) and I keep getting a crash report. I have a 21.5 Inch mid 2010 imac. I also am experiencing slow load times with Photoshop and when I try to open Final Cut it says that quartz extreme is not compatible and that I have no VRAM even though I do.
Here is the crash report:

The recommendation on here, mostly, is to only buy RAM from macsales.com or crucial.com as they guarantee their modules will work and offer a no quibble lifetime guarantee.
I'd put the original RAM back in, return the Corsair chips for a refund and re-order from one of those two companies.
