Final Cut (& other app) direction

Greetings. I'm a longtime "lurker", first time discussion participant... appreciate all the knowledge you guys share here.
Two part question for you. The first to help me with a current situation, the second for long-term direction.
1.) After editing on Final Cut Ex4 for over a year now, I'm suddenly having issues (seemingly, after an upgrade to Snow Leopard) with iDVD (7.1.2) being able to burn DVDs without going to the lowest performance quality... creating pixelation, freezes, etc with the final product. Are there any output/export settings in FCE I could change to take the "load" off of iDVD? These are wedding videos running about 1 hr 45 mins - 4.1 GB with menus and everything. (I apologize if this winds up being an iDVD question.)
2.) With FCE being obsolete, is it time to re-vamp? What do you suggest for editing: 2 camera wedding shoots, exporting to be produced on DVD (possibly Blu-Ray?)? Again, suggestions may involve updating other hardware or applications... apologies if crossing topic arenas.

Mixing Down is accessed through the Sequence>Render Only>Mix Down Menu.
What is does is consolidate all the audio tracks into one render file allowing your system to do less work hunting around for all the various audio files on the system. It just replays the Mixed down track. The more audio tracks in a Sequence the more important Mixing Down becomes. Personally I Mix Down regardless of how many tracks are in use.
Regards Easy Setups:
There is only ONE correct Easy Setup for a particular type of footage that will be coming into an FCE Sequence.
That's why there is a whole bunch of them to choose from.
DV-NTSC is only correct fo one type of footage, that's DV 48 kHz captured from mini DV cams or files conforming to those exact specs.
To make a comment that DV-NTSC is best to use in FCE is a very narrow point of view and is incorrect as a broad statement.
Your XH A1 if it shoots and outputs HDV (1920 x 1080i) will require the Easy Setup to be HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 1080 (notice there are two 50i and 60i) the 50i & 60i refer to PAL or NTSC interlaced footage respectively.
NTSC users will select the 60i Easy Setup.
The idea is that the incoming footage matches the Sequence selected. This means no FCE dramas during editing.
720 p25 and p30 are the same deal IF your camera is set to shoot and output that specific size footage.
The Sony shooting AVCHD will use the AVCHD-Apple Inermediate Codec 1920 x1080i50 or i60, PAL or NTSC.
Easy Setups with 25 or 50 in the name are PAL and 30 or 60 will be NTSC.
You will notice some 1440 x 1080 AVCHD Easy Setups, these would only be used if your camera was shooting and outputting that specific size.

Can't launch ANY of the Final Cut Studio apps

As some of you may have seen, when I was reinstalling all of my old software, I couldn't go to FCP 6.0.4. So I uninstalled Final Cut Studio and got rid of everything the Final cut studio uninstaller didn't get rid of (live type data, etc)
Then I updated to 10.5.5
Then I reinstalled Final Cut Studio and ran software update. Everything updated fine and then I went to launch the programs for the first time and ALL of them say they unexpectedly quit. Should I have launched them once before updating? I DO have all the up-to-date versions this time, but I can't open any of them. I'd hate to have to reinstall all this AGAIN as it takes forever to do so.
Anyone know how to fix this?

No, I know that. Sorry I didn't mention it here.
This is what the console is telling me. I had used the Final Cut Studio uninstaller before reinstalling. My copy is an upgrade version, but everything installed and updated OK. They just won't launch

They are indeed separate packages. One is a set of media creation apps (FCS), the other is an asset management system for projects created in those apps (FC Server).

Anyone study Apple Pro Training Series SP 2 without Final Cut Pro app?

Hi Guys,
I have Soundtrack Pro 2. It came with the Logic Pro Studio bundle. I want to get the certification for SP 2. I just opened the SP 2 Apple Pro Training Series book and the first directions are to open +Final Cut Pro+ to convert the .fcp file in the lesson folder to a .stmp file to use in SP 2.
I don't have Final Cut Pro. Am I dead in the water? How does someone who got SP 2 via purchasing Logic Pro Studio follow this book, since Final Cut Pro doesn't come with the Logic bundle?

I'm checking back in here and bumping this thread up hoping someone from Apple might throw in a reply here. I've spent the last few days on the net seeking out anyone else who ran into this problem and I've discovered there are quite a few others running into this issue. How is someone who purchased STP with Logic Studio supposed to get certified? Why doesn't Apple let people know about this before they purchase the product? If they weren't aware of it before (I've been told Apple has now been notified of the issue), why isn't Apple addressing this and providing a workaround?

Does Final Cut 7 support direct importing of MTS files from an HD Camera

I have Final Cut Express 4.0.1 and have been importing MTS files from my Camera's Hard Drive to my Mac through the Log and Transfer feature. However, during the upload it converts the files to .MOV. The resulting .MOV files are much larger than the original MTS files. I am interested in learning if the latest Final Cut Studio with Final Cut Pro 7 allows for a direct import of MTS files as well as editing this native format without the need to convert to a .MOV?
Also, I have many MTS files that are now MT2S originally imported onto my old PC that are now stored on Data Discs. Is there any way possible to bring those MT2S files onto my Mac and edit in their native format or will I need to convert them through some third party software to have them editable on by Final Cut Pro?

You can, if you want to jump through some hoops, edit your native AVCHD footage in Final Cut (there is no direct import option but you can capture it into Toast, export that as an .mp4 and bring that into Final Cut Pro.) That being said, it is a very bad idea plus its clunky and slow.
Long story short: Use Log and Transfer and get a big hard drive.

How to uninstall extra Final Cut Studio apps?

I just purchased a MacBook Pro with a 160 GB hard drive, and installed all of Final Cut Studio on it. I knew the installation took up a lot of space, but sheesh, I'm only left with about 45 GB of space, certainly not enough for me to be comfortable! At any rate, I am now interested in removing Studio apps that I don't use as often to save hard drive space. Do I have to completely uninstall the entire suite, or can I selectively uninstall? What is the process?

App Store doesn't recognize my purchased Final Cut Pro app

In February, my logic board was replaced, and the App Store sees my laptop as a new computer, so it's no longer recognizing some (but not all) of my purchased apps. I purchased Final Cut Pro via the App Store in December. The installed version runs fine, but the App Store won't update it to the latest version (10.2). The "Buy" button in the App Store says "Install," but when I get an error message that reads "Final Cut is already installed on this computer. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to check for available updates." But there isn't a Software Update command in the Apple Menu anymore -- just a link back to the App Store, which won't help me! How do I get the App Store to let me install the new version?

Should I delete any/all copies of the app and then download a fresh copy from the App Store?

Final Cut Studio apps

just bought Final Cut Pro X 10.0.3. I had bought FCP years ago and the continual upgrades
until it was named Final Cut Studio. I'm guessing this was 2005 or so. Anyhow, I used to have
all those other applications, Compressor, Motion, LiveType, Soundtrack, maybe others in that
package.
I never really mastered the program and resorted to iMovie HD in a pinch.
I'm already having some hardware issues with this new version, but it looks like something I'll
be able to learn.
Are those other programs "under the hood" of the new FCPX or bought seperately? Upgrades
from my old versions? Are they even necessary?
I have an interest in trying to create a DVD with surround sound.

All the the applications that came with studio are not available with FCPX. But you don't need them if you plan to create a DVD with surround sound. FCPX has surround mixing. I don't know how good it is since I don't use FCP X but it looks like it will do all the basics. Take a look here:

the upgrade from 5.0.x to 5.1 is not a downloadable upgrade. Search the forum for "cross-grade."

Final Cut Studio apps not opening on your Intel Mac - Universal Prokit?

Motion and other Final Cut Studio applications stopped opening on my Intel iMac, and the problem was that the Prokit.framework file wasn't universal binary. I did some Google-ing and found this topic regarding the universal Prokit.framework file.

I have a MACBOOK PRO running under 10.9 and 4 Gigs memory. I bought FCP to be able to burn blu-rays videos (I produced a 4h30 video on a trip to Turkey)
My video is produced in full HD. I have an LG blu-ray burner. I bought training videos on FCP at Macpro Video and they show that going on SHARE and selecting ADD A NEW DESTINATION will bring a window where should be an icon of a blu-ray disc. But I don't see any blu-ray icon there. My burner is the model BP40NS20

HT5149 I'm having some weird things go on with installing FInal cut in app store the icon has turned in a question mark and app store keeps freazing

this is the issue I am having it keeps creashing, I have older mac pro 2x 2.8 quad-core, 24 gig ram 2.5TB storage on system drive, so should be no issues there, I updated to Mavricks just so I could get this update, I need for 5k redcore epic edit. I have gone through and tried deleating the previous version, with all the application support files and cache as per guide, Its really frustrating.

I guess you have tryed to log out and then log in again? Could help to repair permision and restart the computer. You are in the purchases section since you have deleted FCPX ?

Hi, I still have problems reinstalling Final Cut Pro even though I followed these steps.
Reason why I have to reinstall is because I have repaired my Macbook Pro hard drive at a Mac Authorized Repair.
Short history of repair and my Final Cut Pro installation:
1. Macbook Pro stopped working, sendt it for repair. Had the Final Cut Pro installed,
2. Desided to try a MiniMac and recovered my backup with Time Machine, got the Final Cut Pro working.
3. Got my Macbook Pro back from repair, did backup on this one as well. But this time only the files not the Applications.
4. Removed the files as mentioned in HT5149. Didn´t find "com.apple.motionapp.plist" to remove though, but the others I found.
5. When I try to install Final Cut Pro from App Store, it downloads the application as planned. But after download it won´t show in the Application folder nor in the downloads folder, nor will it start an installation prosess. If I pause the installation in App Store, I can see the Final Cut Pro icon in my Dock. (But, as mentioned, after installation it won´t show neither here or in the Applications folder).
Any suggestions on what I should try now?

Sounds like there is a file you're not getting. Never do a removal manually. It's so time consuming and a pain. There's a very easy and fast way to do this, safely, properly.
Get the free "Final Cut Remover" app from Digital Rebellion (dot com), use this to remove FCP X.
Reboot the Mac.
Download from scratch.
If you're not seeing FCP X in your app folder, run Disk Utility to Repair all drives.
If that doesn't help, try running Disk Warrior from Altsoft to repair the directories on all drives.
