Final cut output through USB to projector

Does anyone know how or if possible to output through the G5 USB to my projector? I can do video out but i want two monitors and a projector. i appreciate any suggestions, thanks

Sorry, cannot output a signal thru USB.
Is that the only connection the projector takes? There is this option:
#8 External Monitor Viewing.
Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

  • Final cut express and usb

I have a new macbook which I just discovered has no firewire port. In the fce easy setup it seems to only have firewire choices. How do I set it up for usb. I have a sony hdr sr11 which is usb. Also since my firewire audio interfaces don't work on the macbook I purchased a tascam us-144. when I try to select it in the voiceover I get a message saying it is unavailable and may be conflicting with an output device. Any ideas?

Final Cut Express only works with FireWire.
USB 2.0 can only be used with AVCHD footage in FCE 4.
There has been some correspondence in the last week over the unsuitability of the new MacBooks for editing DV from tapes.

  • Can Final Cut output video captured in HDV?

    Hi,
I recently shot and captured an upcoming project using sony HDV. I purchased the sony HVR-M15U HDV deck for video playback.
After connecting he deck using firewire (which sony is calling i-link) Final Cut greyed out my video playback options, external video automatically sets to off... It looks like final cut does have a HDV playback option but its greyed out on my screen.
    Thanks for your help,
    Rob

you need an ACUTAL HD card to display HDV on the fly (as there is only 1 frame for every half second)
something like a AJA Kona card or a BlackMagic Decklink card
HDV can't be output on the fly over firewire

  • Using Final Cut with external USB 2.0 drive

I use Final Cut Studio on a 2-year old MacBook Pro. The MacBok Pro has Firewire 800 and but only USB 2.0. I've been using an external Firewire drive with it for storing my movies. Now it is full and I need to get another external drive. However the new drives I've seen tend to be only USB.
My question: Will it be a problem to use Final Cut using USB 2.0? (The new drives are USB 3.0, but the computer is only 2.0). Will I be able to edit movies that are on the extenal drive? Or will I need to store the "in-progress" movies on the computer, and then move them to the external drive when I'm done with them.
And when I ask "will I be able to" I mean doing it without seeing endless beachballs...
(Also, if the response is "get another FW drive," then any suggestions as to which one?)
    Thanks!

Let me make sure I understand this: If I store completed movies on the USB drive, I should have no problem viewing them, as long as I have no other external USB devices connected to the MacBook.
You can use the USB drive for archiving projects but as said before you shouldn't edit with one. While the nominal maximum speed for USB 2 and FW400 is not that far apart the two protocols work differently. USB 2 achieves the max speed in "bursts" which is not what you want for video.

However for editing movies, I should have them on either the FW drive or on the computer itself.
Is that correct? Will it work to edit movies on the FW-400 drive, or should they be on the computer itself?
While you can have the project file itself on your system drive, all the media files should be on external drives. This way your system drive gets to run the software and the external keeps the media and renders.

And if I get a new FW-800 drive, will I be able to edit movies stored on that (i.e. will I see a difference between FW-400 and FW-800?)
FW800 is definitely faster. See a comparison here: http://www.barefeats.com/hard70.html

  • Run Final Cut Express through Apple Remote

I am trying to capture a lot of video clips and to do that I have set up a couple of Mac Minis with tape decks connected and want to run them from one work station through Remote Desktop. Trouble is the Mini won't run Final Cut Express unless a monitor is attached. It does not recognize the video card being installed without the monitor. Is there a solution I am not seeing? Any ideas would be welcome.

We shoot hours of video everyday on mini dv camcorders. The tapes are then captured via Final Cut Express to a G5 Mac Pro connected to a dv deck with firewire. Clips are then mpeged and stored on a server for everyone to use in their research in the office. The tapes are about an hour each and I want to capture more than one at a time without setting up a bunch of workstations for one person to man. I want to have three or four decks connected to three or four computers all running Express and I want to operate those computers through Remote Desktop without monitors on those computers. This all works, I have set it up and done it with a couple of G5 Mac Pros but when I bought a Mini to save space and cost the Mini will not open Express without a monitor connected to it. Is there an easier way to capture video than I am thinking. I welcome any advice.

  • Final cut alpha through SDI problem

How to get Alpha chanel through SDI with Final CUt and AJA cona 3. All my AJA settings show me that SDI video and Alpha chanel are corect but I can`t see any alpha.

I think the problem lies with the Firewire 800 connection. I was cutting a 4 angle music video last week with the source media (DV NTSC) residing on a 500GB G-Raid connected via Firewire 800. When playing back with open sync and the 4-up display in the viewer, I was experiencing the same jerkiness.
I then copied that project to our XSAN and with the increase in available bandwidth over the fibre connection, playback was smooth.
If you have room on a secondary internal drive, you might want to try moving the project there.

  • XHA1 and FInal Cut Break Through!!!!

Now I am not guaranteeing this will work for everyone, but after 2 years I have found what was wrong with my system. For 2 years, I have shot on my XHA1 and captured on my girlfriends iMac, though I have a G5 of my own. I am currently in session and need to bring some footage in when just last week, my XHA1 captured on my G5 for the 1st time in the past 2 years. Whats the deal I say, why is this happening now? How is it I can capture all of a sudden? Today, I try to capture and no luck. What is it about my system. After doing some research in the Console Utility i found an error number and googled it. It seams it is an audio dirver that is effecting the mac's core.
(below is in bold not because i am "yelling" but so people can see this with out reading my story),
    I discovered this
MY MBOX WAS NOT ALLOWING ME TO CAPTURE. I UNPLUGGED THE MBOX AND LIKE MAJIC, IT WORKS EVERY-TIME. I NEED TO RUN ANOTHER TEST, TO SEE IF THE MBOX CAN STILL BE PLUGGED IN BUT NOT BE USING THE DIGIDESIGN CORE AUDIO APPLICATION (Application must be closed).
Wow, this is something Canon and Apple have no clue about. If they had a way of knowing I am sure it would have been taking care of right away, as far as giving people the right inforrmation in order to capture.
If it works for you post your results! If not, I am sorry, but let this case be an example, you can fix your own final cut system.
    Cam

So if you own a XH-A1 and Digidesign / M-Audio hardware, and have been having problems capturing HDV with your XH-A1, this is what you do.
Unplug your digidesign hardware and use your "built-in" sound.
    or
Try just closing your "Digidesign Care Audio Manager".
Then open up Final cut to transfer.
    Hope this helps everybody.

  • Video output through usb?

A friend phoned for assistance with connecting his MBPro running OS X v10.5.8 to a projector. He has three cables, two with PC connectors to what sounds like a VGA style plug at the projector end, and a third, which he thinks. Was bought to connect the MBP on the last occasion this was needed.
The third cable plugs into the USB slot at the computer end, and into what sounds like a mini USB jack (as found on printers and scanners) at the projector end.
Is this possible? If so, what settings are required to make it work?
    TIA

I guess I'm not sure I understand this answer.  I'm looking for a way to connect a cable to the usb port on the Treo 800 and connect on the other end to audio/video jacks.  Or send the video out wirelessly.  I want to be able to send the video to a larger screen TV or a lcd projector for presentations.  I am looking for both the hardware solution and if necessary the software piece of the solution????????

  • Internet stopped working, music cuts out through USB

Okay, I searched the forum and didnt find an answer so here's my problem:
first of all this iPod touch is only a couple months old, and ive only really used it in my car, and the internet at home when the computer is being used. The internet worked fine for a while, but a few days ago it showed full connection, but instead of connecting the internet page just stays blank and I cannot do anything until the ipod goes to sleep. I restarted it, and now I get an Error message: "Operation could not be completed (POSIX error 12- cannot allocate memory)"
What do I do to fix this? should I reset settings or restore?
Also, in my car i have to make the ipod play before i connect it or it can take any number of minutes before it plays a song or half then cuts out. It never used to do that and my old ipod works fine. same thing happens when i put it on my dock, I have to make it play first so it doesnt cut out though.
I hope this can be fixed, any help?

You should [Try this out|http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/troubleshooting/ipodtouch>. I think just Restoring to latest firmware would help.

  • Video cameras no longer connecting to Final Cut Express

I have two video cameras (Sony TRV-25 and Sony HDV-A1U) which are no longer connecting to Final Cut Express through the firewire (4-pin to 800). I get the "unable to initialize" message. What's weird is that they were working fine just last month.
I'm on a relative new iMac, running 10.6, FCE 4.
I've double and triple-checked the settings on the cameras (i.e., HDV and iLink output settings), and I've selected the appropriate settings in Easy Setup in FCE (1060i60 for the HDV, NTSC-DV for the TRV).
I also reset video devices under the View menu.
Just for kicks, I tried connecting the TRV-25 to my old Mac. I had no problems at all. [The old Mac won't work with the HDV camera, so I didn't bother trying that.]
There are no other firewire devices connected to the Mac. There is an external drive that I use for capturing the video files that is attached through one of the USB ports.
I went and bought another firewire cable just to make sure, but got the same results.
For what it's worth, I also could not get the cameras to be recognized in iMovie.
Is there anything else I should try?
    Thanks!

When I looked in System Profiler and click on the firewire line, it just said something about maximum speed 800 MB per second or whatever. Should it actually have the camera listed there? Is that the right way to check?
The firewire is 4-pin (iLink) to 800, and there are no other devices connected.

  • Exporting .ac3 2.0 from Final Cut.... SILENCE!

    Hi,
I'm trying to export a .ac3 (Dolby 2.0) from a Final Cut project, through Compressor.
When the file is created, it is completely SILENCED: there is no sound throughout all its lenght.
I've done it several other times, using the Compressor presets regarding .ac3, and I've never had this kind of problem. I haven't changed anything...
The problem seems to be restricted only to all the .ac3 dolby presets, because exporting an .aiff from the same Final Cut project does work.
    Can you help me?
    Thanks
    Alessio

    Alessio,
Something doesn't make sense here. The version of Compressor that came with FCP 4.5 couldn't export AC3 you had to use A.Pack. I suspect you're using Compressor that came with FCP6 ?
If this is the case then there might be a conflict between FCP4.5 and that.
Secondly AC3 is a delivery format so it doesn't matter what version of FCP you're using - I suggest you export a self contained quicktime at current settings from FCP 4.5 then put that into Compressor
Thirdly, a FCP 4.5 file will open and work in FCP 6, so as long as you save and stay in FCP 6 after that there isn't a problem.

  • Final Cut Studio on Intel PowerMacs?

I am planning on eventually upgrading to a top of the line PowerMac for editing using Final Cut Studio (which I currently own and run on my PowerBook), but I have a few questions that I need to figure out before making a decision on what to get and when to get it.
So I know all this is a little ways off, but soon enough, Apple PowerMacs will be running on Intel processors. Does anyone know if they will be fully capable of running the current version of Final Cut Studio (which is made for the PowerPC processor) and how much slower it would be, since it would be run using Rosetta? When Apple releases the Intel PowerMac, do you think it would be better to get the older generation Quad G5 or the newer and supposedly much faster Intel PowerMac, which would have to run Final Cut Studio through Rosetta, which would slow it down (if it indeed can run the app). Thanks a lot for the input.
    15" PowerBook G4 1.25 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

As I understand it, Apple has since OS X created versions of all its applications for both Intel and PowerPC.
Perhaps not all its system levels, but its pro apps.
Remember that Apple bought Final Cut Pro (nee Final Cut) from Macromedia, where the program, originally developed for PC and at one time earmarked to be the front-end editing software for Media 100 on the PC, was being developed by Randy Ubillos.
It was originally called "Key Grip."
