Final cut pro 4 dropping frames

I have recently updated my software, now I can not capture without having a dropped frame thing pop up.

Hi,
Try this below, which worked for me:
1. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
2. From the View menu, choose Spotlight.
3. Click the Privacy tab to reveal the areas that Spotlight will not index.
4. In the Finder, open your "Final Cut Pro Documents" Folder.
5. Look for the Capture Scratch folder and drag it onto the Privacy portion of Spotlight.
To test this, start a new "test" project in FCP and log and capture a number of clips and see if the dropped frame problem pops up. Put the clips on the Timeline, do some effects like dissolves, etc.
If you still have an issue, open up FCP, choose User Preferences, select the General Tab and uncheck (that is, remove the checkmarks from the following: Sync audio ..., Report dropped ..., Abort ETT ...,
Abort capture .... Also, "on time code break," select make a clip.
Report back.

  • HT4714 Final cut pro X drop frames?

    Hi,
I am getting frequent drop frame messages during play back, when I swich to proxy media several of my clips are getting the red clip with exclamation mark? I havent done the current update yet , I am currently using a trail version... 10.03. I have a new 1mac 27 with plenty of power. I am frustrated that I am getting these error messages.
      thanks for any input
       chevas

Dropped frames can be caused your media needs to be rendered for playback and the system isn't fast enough, or the drive isn't fast enough to support your media.
When you switch to proxy playback you can only playback proxy media. If the media hasn't been trasncoded to proxy format it won't play back and will appear as offline.

  • Getting error message in Final Cut Pro X for frame 13142 when sharing

I am sharing a project to Master File and I get an error message: error occured when creating frame 13142.  How can I find that frame?

I had frame generation error last nigtht trying to make master file  on a short 5 mintue simple video I built.
It said error was on frame 6797.
I seach for soluitons and nothing seem to help.
I tried copying project contents to new project and that still failed with frame error 6797.
I then reviewed that frame and it was the one time in project I used any special affects for movement of image, Ken Burns and  Key frame transform affects on a freeze frame image.
I createa new third project copied contents in and remove the freeze frame image.  added freeze frame image back into project and only did Ken Burnes affect without key frame movement.
i was then able to complete geneeation and share project.
So if you get a frame generation error check that frame and see what special affects your using.  There maybe a bug in FInal Cut Pro X when you mix and match affects on one object in a project.
hope this helps someone... I was stuck for several hours on this last night.

  • AppleScript help please: Final Cut Pro / selecting drop down items

    Hi,
I am wondering if anyone can help guide me wih a spot of AppleScript?
I'm new to it as of tonight (last time I made a script was 11 years ago, and that was a very basic one!).
Basically, my problem is I have a long term bug in Final Cut Pro which causes it to crash on launch everytime, unless I delete the Preferences file first.
(btw This problem exsisted in Snow Leopard and has continued with Lion. I think it is plug-in related, but I've never figured out which or why, and have had a topic ongoing on here int he FCP forum for some time with no luck).
Anyway, so far I have made a script which trashed the preferences and launches the program, like this:
    try
              do shell script "rm /Users/redhavoc/Library/Preferences/Final\\ Cut\\ Pro\\ User\\ Data/Final\\ Cut\\ Pro\\ 7.0\\ Prefs.fcset "
    end try
    delay 1
tell application "Final Cut Pro" to activate
    So far, so good.
However, what I would REALLY like to do, is continue this script to reset all the preferences automatically!
When launching FCP (as the preferences are gone) this is the first thing that comes up:
    So, my question is:
How can I choose which items I want selected from the drop down boxes with my AppleScript?
(Specifically, option 7 in the "Format" drop down, and option 3 in the "Rate" drop down, then more complexly, choosing which folder I want in the "Primary Scratch Disk" drop down (which opens an "Open" dialogue) ).
    Thanks in advance!

Ok, so I've worked out what the drop down boxes are called by digging through the package plist and strings files.
    So now I have:
    try
              do shell script "rm /Users/redhavoc/Library/Preferences/Final\\ Cut\\ Pro\\ User\\ Data/Final\\ Cut\\ Pro\\ 7.0\\ Prefs.fcset "
    end try
    delay 1
tell application "Final Cut Pro" to activate
    tell application "System Events"
              tell process "Final Cut Pro"
      activate
tell combo box "formats" of window "firstStart"
      click button 1
                                  repeat 6 times
      keystroke (ASCII character 31)
                                  end repeat
      keystroke return
                        end tell
              end tell
    end tell
But the error now returned is:
System Events got an error: Can’t get window "firstStart" of process "Final Cut Pro".
So I changed that line to:
tell combo box "formats" of front window
    But now the error says:
System Events got an error: Can’t get window 1 of process "Final Cut Pro". Invalid index.
Hmmmm.... am I getting any closer??

  • Final Cut Pro - sticking & jumping frames

Hi, I am 10 minutes into an opening sequence using 'Final Cut' when the frames start sticking and jumping at the same place. Past this point - if I reposition the cursor everything is OK. When I deleted the troublesome clip and replaced it with another at the same point the same thing happened. Can anybody help?

    The details are important.
Version numbers of FCP, QT, and OS.
    RAM, computer, and media drive.
    Sequence settings and acquisition cam.
Help us out with your workflow and set up.
Your problems may be dropped frames that results from a too slow media drive or multiple FW drives on a single bus.

  • When are Apple going to sort out the Final Cut Pro X Key Frame problem

    Hello,
I’m trying to move three custom text clips to different locations on the screen & change the text size. The text clips drift around between two key frames with the same values. (“linear” is set on the red wire frame movement indicator) I know you can stop the drift by going to the first key frame, move forward one frame, add a key frame, wait for the rendering to complete then delete the key frame, then move to the next key frame, go back one frame, add a key frame, wait for the rendering to complete then delete the key frame. All this takes a considerable time. Does anyone know when Apple plan to fix this Key Frame bug? Or an easier way to stop the drift between key frames?
    Thanks
    JohnH

Yep, I hope KFs get a little bit of love in the next update too.
To make my KFs linear, I always do the move, then drop a dummy keyframe inbetween them and add/delete that KF until the Motion path stops showing a change. Linear interpolation will follow!
    Pain but quite quick!!

  • Final Cut pro inserts a frame of black between cuts. What do I do?

While exporting my FCP project as a quicktime movie, a frame of black is added between each edit. What do I do.
    I am exporting as HDV 720p 60.

    Thanks Tom,
      My current Audio/Video Settings are:
    sequence preset = HDV 720p60
    capture preset =  HDV
device control preset = HDV Firewire 59.94 fps NDF
    video playback = None
    audio playback = Default
    Are these settings correct?
    Thank you!

  • Final Cut Pro X damaged frame

How do I find the clip that is damaged? FCPX error message is: The operation could not be completed because an error occurred when creating frame 25649 (error -1) How do I find frame 25649 in my timeline?

Tom Wolsky helped me with this in a different discussion, go to Preferences and change the display to frames.

  • Modifying A Final Cut Pro 6 Video Frame (Or Frames) In Photoshop CS3 ?

My method of doing this is very clumsy and I am sure there must be some more elegant way.
I export the frame as a still image and modify it in PS after which I import it back into FCP and put it on the track immediately above the original frame.
This works but is rather fiddly.
Is there a quicker and better way and whatever happened to that handy "Frame From Video" grabber that was part of PSE 2 ?
What about FCP's "Open in Editor" command ? I have got PS listed under "video" but can't seem to open a selected frame in PS.

Mmh, depending on the situation, you may be able to resolve this via motion (if you have FCP Studio). You could build a template with a placeholder graphic, then edit that graphic in PS. Motion projects should even open in PS, as they are merely Quicktime containers. I've never tried that, though, as my situation is reversed - I need the studio only for Motion and DVDSP, but rarely touch FCP and it's all running on an MBP, so guess how often I'm using it at all.... ;-)

  • Final Cut Pro Error: 'out of memory'/'general error' on export

I'm trying to export a simple timeline from FCP but keep getting Final Cut Pro Error: 'out of memory'/'general error'. Exporting 5 sec timeline (yes, just a short trailer) via Quicktime conversion H264 at 1080. Strangely, if I export exactly same timeline at 720 its fine. Original media ProRes422 1080.
Have exported at 1080 before ok. No nested files involved; re-connected all media; no JPEGs involved; plenty of memory (all of which i have heard can be issues).
Any advice please as i've read all of the FAQs and nothing helping so far?!
Spec: New MacPro 12-core; 12 MB ram; 2TB drive; FCP7

Thanks for workflow clarity Shane, but when you export as self-contained QT movie, what do the 'Current Settings' refer to? Is this the current settings of your (source media in) timeline (ie in my case Pro Res 422) or the last settings used by the export? Apparently 'If you deselect the Recompress All Frames option and choose Current Settings from the Setting pop-up menu, Final Cut Pro simply copies frames from existing media files into the new file with no recompression.' But when i did this I got a 994.1 MB QT movie, which, when i got 'more info' told me MPEG-2 Video (?!) Apparently a compressed file when its supposed to be uncompressed (?!) When i exported manually setting to Pro Res I got 6.77 GB. Clearly uncompressed Apple ProRes 422 (HQ). Do i have to manually set settings to Pro Res to match my source media and ensure i get an uncompressed file? Im searching boards to get some clarity on this too: all references so far advise using 'current settings' but dont actually say what they are.

  • Final Cut Pro 7 export drops frames

I exported a video from Final Cut Pro 7 to a Quicktime .mov file.  The file plays fine on a mac, but when I try to play it on a pc it drops frames throughout the video.  I have other .mov files on this pc also exported from fcp7 that play just fine. Please advise.  Thanks.

If you are talking about the Canvas and Viewer windows... make sure that their size is set at FIT TO WINDOW Top left button in the viewer and canvas window.
If you are talking about something else, please give us some more details.

  • Final Cut Pro dropped frame rate issue

Hi there, i currently shot a short film on the canon 5d mark II 30fps and i am trying to edit it in final cut studio 2. I have recently bought the new macbook pro 15inch 2gb module.
Now the canon footage is h.264 but when importing the clips into final cut pro 6 there is a lot of dropped frame rate issues but I thought this machine could handle HD footage?
Can someone more advanced than myself recommend what i am doing wrong or a work flow that i can work with to stop dropped frame rates and render times.
Last piece of information, the project will be entered in film festivals in the spring its only a 3 minute short and i have 5 folders of footage under 4gb each which was taken from the camera
    Thanks for your help.
    Michael

You are missing a huge conceptual point. If the file can not spool off of the hard drive fast enough, you get dropped frames. It isn't a processor or ram issue right now, it is a hard drive speed issue. Your system drive is overtaxed trying to run OSX, applications AND spool video. It just can't keep up. Changing the graphic card isn't going to help (and how do you change the card in a laptop?)
Get an external esata drive - with the new MacBookPro you'll need an esata Expresscard34 adapter for the computer to connect the drive. Firewire is not an option with that machine and USB2 will not cut it with high data rate formats like ProRes.
When you drop in the ProRes clip to the timeline and it tells you there is a mismatch, this means your preset for the timeline is something other than your clip. You WANT ProRes and you need the sequence to match your clip - tell the program to CHANGE the sequence to match the clip.
Video is not easy and it isn't inexpensive. Time to open up those manuals and your wallet!
    Good luck,
    x

  • Final Cut Pro 4.5 & Dropped Frames..Please Help

I am a wedding videographer and have been using Final Cut Pro with no problems for several video projects. My most current project however problems arise. I am using Mac OS X 10.4.9 with 512 MB of Ram on a G5 1.8 Single. When I try importing video from my last wedding when I capture it I always am getting a message saying dropped frames were present. I have tried 2 different camcorders, 2 different firewire cables, defragmenting my hard drive and still nothing but dropped frames messages. I also have tried importing video from a previous wedding with no luck. If anyone has any ideas please help. Thanks

FCP 4.5 and Mac OS 10.4.9 are incompatible...known issue.
#45 - FCP 4.5 and Mac OS 10.4.9 - how to get it working again
Shane's Stock Answer #45 - How to get FCP 4.5 working again under Mac OS 10.4.9
Apple's solution: Archive and install the OS again, this time updating only to 10.4.8.
Another COOL solution: Samba2007 posted that a friend solved the FCP 4.5 + OSX 10.4.9 capture issue adding the Capture Scratch folder to the Privacy of Spotlight in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4417320#4417320
OlSchoolCutter tried with SUCCESS (see post in that thread).
Then follow these stepe and try (it's free!):
    1. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
    2. From the View menu, choose Spotlight.
    3. Click the Privacy tab to reveal the areas that Spotlight will not index.
    4. In the Finder, open your "Final Cut Pro Documents" folder.
    5. Drag the Capture Scratch folder into Spotlight's list.

  • Dropped frames in Final Cut Pro X 10.0.8

Whilst working on projects in final cut pro playback is jumpy and I get the 'Frames were dropped' warning. This makes it extremely hard to edit and is massively frustrating... Anything I can do? I have upgraded to 16gb of ram on my Early 2011 13 inch macbook pro but it hasn't seemed to have done anything...

Hi, I just upgraded to fcpx on our 2011 mac pro and I was having problems with audi not starting right away for playback in the timeline or clip library (.5 second or so delay) so I turned on the dropped frame check and sure enough I am getting them. I don't know if this is the reason for my audio playback lag, but was surprising to learn. I have premiere pro 6 on this mac and had fcp7 on it before and never saw this problem.
The media I am importing is avchd 720P60 and the optimized media box is checked so I'm editing proress 4:2:2 60P footage.
The Mac Pro has the internal apple raid card with fast drives (raid 0 mode) and plenty of ram (12gb). I do have the ATI Radeon HD 5870 card.
Do I really  need to use proxy media instead with this setup?

  • Final Cut Pro 'dropping frames' problem

Hi. I have a macbook, version 10.6.8 - I am trying to use Final Cut Pro version 6.0.6 and am having problems with the 'dropping frames' issue. I know you can get rid of the message, but does anyone know how to solve the problem, as when it comes to exporting the film I won't be able to? Is my mac too small/old to use this version of FCP? If so, is there anything I can do to rectify that? (that doesn't involve buying a new mac!)
    Any suggestions would be great.
    Thanks.

    #12 Dropped frames on capture/playback
Shane's Stock Answer #12:  Dropped frames on capture/playback
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58640
    1) Do not capture to your main system drive.  Since it is busy reading the operating system and application files, it will intermittently drop frames during capture.  Capture to a separate internal drive, or external hard drive (firewire and eSATA for example).
    2) Deactivate any anti-virus/filesaver software, including Norton and Virex.  For some reason these programs think that the large files created when you capture media are in fact caused by some sort of virus, and they try to prevent this.
    3) Check the format of the drive you are capturing to. It should be Mac OS Extended, journaling off. If it isn't, copy your files from it and re-initialize it.  If it is any other format, you will encounter problems. If not at first, then eventually.
    4) Trash the FCP preference files.  Use PREFERENCE MANAGER to do that, available here:
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com
    5) Make sure that the hard drives you are capturing to are fast enough to handle the footage being captured to it.  A regular firewire 400 drive cannot capture uncompressed HD, or even uncompressed standard definition.  A RAID array of drives might be in order for these formats.
