Final Cut Pro 4 & Tiger

I have Final Cut Pro 4 and was using OS X 3. I upgraded to OSX 4.2 Tiger, I didn't do anything else or remove anything, and now I can't use Final Cut Pro. Everytime I click on the program I get a configuration error which reads:
"This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing
• AGP graphics card."
Even when I reboot on another drive using OSX 3, I still get this message. As I stated earlier, it worked fine before upgrading. Does anyone have an idea?

Try reinstalling FCP from your original disks

  • MPEG2 codec not working in Final Cut Pro on Mac OSX Tiger

We have been using the File-export-Quicktime Conversion-MPEG2 codec for exporting of files from Final Cut Pro to DVD Studio Pro. On the new mac system that was just bought, the option does not show up.
Currently the system is running Quicktime Pro 7.1.2/ FCP 5 and DVD Studio Pro 4 and it is a new mac system running Mac OSX Tiger.
This problem has happened before on a mac running on an older system, but that was solved by reinstalling FCP and then DVD Studio pro and making sure that the QT Pro was of the latest version.
Right now, we have reinstalled everything the same way, tried installing DVD Studio Pro after, we have also done a full software update of the software over the net.
The codec is still not working, all the macs in the office are supposed to be upgraded to Mac osx tiger, but right now we can't do so, cos then we wouldn't be able to burn any DVDs.
    Please help, thanks.

The installation of QT 7 is the culprit behind the missing MPEG-2 Export Component. But during upgrades, it doesn't always get rid of the file ... probably what happened on your older system when you upgraded to QT 7 or Tiger. Either the new system came with QT 7 preinstalled, therefore not including the Export Component, or if it was upgraded, the upgrade missed it.

  • FINAL CUT PRO HD 4.5 AND TIGER 10.4.3

Can any of you smart people tell me if I can use Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 with Tiger 10.4.3. Unfortunately I installed Tiger before installing Final Cut 4.5. Yes, it sounds crazy, but it is a long story. I can't afford FC 5, so it has to be 4.5 for now. I heard there was only one compatibility issue with 4.5 and Tiger, something to do with Desktop Previews or something and a quick patch/fix was available for that. Can anybody help me. Thank you!!
    G5 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I'm running 4.5 on 10.4 without any issues....
Most, if not all, of the difficulties come from funky Quicktime7 installations.

  • Final Cut Pro Compatability with OS 10.4 Tiger - Easy Question

Right now I am cutting a feature film on Final Cut Pro 4.5 HD, OS Panther (10.3.9). As soon as I'm done with this project, I'd like to upgrade to OS 10.4 because I will be cutting a new feature in HDV (24p footage using HDVxDV to digitize and convert to DVCPRO HD).
My question is this...does Final Cuto Pro 4.5 work in OS 10.4? Or do I HAVE TO get the Final Cut Pro 5 upgrade in order for FCP to work in Tiger?
    Thanks for the help.
    PowerMac G5, 2gHz, 2GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   500 GB G-RAID x4, Canopus ADVC-110, Sony DSR-45
    G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I switched because I wanted to use the MultiCam, plus for the integration with Shake (which I use extensively) and in the bigger picture, I wanted Motion 2 over Motion 1, so it made sense to upgrade to Final Cut Studio.
But if you're looking for any BIG changes in the user interface or effects, etc, don't mess with your smooth functioning system. FCP 5 introduced a new RT system that causes interruptions in playback during shuttling when the mouse is moved and from general anecdotes is just not as smooth as in prior revs.
For me, I'm happy I upgraded, but if it doesn't bring you any features you're looking for, you should probably stay with the system you're happy with.

  • Tiger with Final Cut Pro

This is my first time posting to the Final Cut Pro discussions.
I am thinking of upgrading to Tiger. Are there any software conflicts with FCP 4.5, since I am trying to be careful on whether or not to update the OS.

    Yes, many, many problems.
    No, none at all.
Read through the forums and you will find many posts from each camp.
Ask yourself - What is Tiger going to do that you NEED to do that Panther can't do?
If you really, really need Tiger, you might as well as ahead and do FCP5 at the same time.
    Cheers,

  • Final Cut Pro 5 and After Affects 6.5  compatable with Tiger?

I'm running OSX 10.3.9 and want to upgrade to Tiger. Will Tiger be compatible with Final Cut Pro 5.0? How about After Affects 6.5?

I'm running both on an intel mac pro. No problems with Tiger so far. Although Motion does a lot of things that I used to do in AE

  • Tiger doesn't support Final Cut Pro 4

Just had an incredible conversation with Apple support. I was trying to get a fix to the Compressor problem "Cannot submit batch, unable to connect to background process" that many people are having trouble with. I have had this problem since I upgraded to Tiger. I was asking if I could get my money back for my Tiger and the support agent asked if I had already opened the box. Then he told me that Apple never said FCP 4 would be supported by Tiger and he offered no solutions.
I having to spend money upgrading Final Cut Pro 4 would be throwing good money after bad. I have a G4, I liked FCP, but I will be looking at the Windows products now.

I've been using Final Cut Pro HD (v4.5) on Tiger since day one of the release and I haven't had one instance of "Cannot submit batch...." However, for most of that time I've been using Compressor 2, since that version came with my $99 upgrade to Soundtrack Pro.
Considering the long history of problems with connecting to Compressor's background processes I think it's entirely possible that Tiger isn't the actual source of these continued failures (or, at least, it may not be the main cause).
However, you should be eligible for the $99 upgrade to Soundtrack Pro so that's one way to upgrade to Compressor 2 and you may find better compatibility with that version of the software. However, IMO it's not a win-win situation since Compressor 2 seems to be going though its own set of new problems.

  • Want to use final cut pro 6 on G4 Quicksilver machine

Hi, I want to install Final Cut pro 6 on my G4 1 Ghz Dual processor. Other info. which i am not sure what it means is L3/512/80G/SuperN. I had more ram installed so it has a total of 3 512 sdram in it.
    Processor speed is 133 Ghz.
Final cut says i have to have 10.4 or better but how do i get it. Is there a free download or do I have to buy something? I saw on a different post a similar question and two persons responded saying that I could install OSX Leopard 10.5x but I think that requires an intel machine. Does Final cut require an intel machine? Also have a question about obtaining a new monitor for this machine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi babyshark, and a warm welcome to the forums!
The system requirements are moderately steep—you’ll need a somewhat recent machine to run it: at least a 1.25GHz Power Mac G4 with AGP or PCIe graphics for standard-definition video. HD video requires even more CPU, GPU, and RAM.

There's confusion on this, you could run Leopard/10.5, but nit Snow Leopard/10.6.
    Leopard requirements/10.5.x...
    * Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
    minimum system requirements
    * 512MB of memory (I say 2GB at least)
    * DVD drive for installation
    * 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
You have to call Apple & likely ask for a Product Specialist to get it, if they still have it! Helps to tell them you have an iPad/iPhone & you can't run 10.6.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
    * Mac computer with an Intel processor
    * 1GB of memory (I say 2GB at least)
    * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
    * DVD drive for installation
    * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
    * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Also have a question about obtaining a new monitor for this machine.

  • Final Cut Pro question

i want to make high def. blu ray dvd's in dvd studio pro or iDVD. you can only do that in final cut pro share and that is too cheap/easy. example: adobe cs5 is compatible to make blu ray high def. dvd's on encore. i believe that there can be a resolution to this problem. i need to work more professional for my business. i dont want to change from this software, for i worked adobe premiere cs2 and it was not good. i found final cut pro a lot better. now, i find better cs5.
thank you for giving up your time to read my post and i hope someone can help me out with this problem or something can fix this.

What are your export settings when you export the text? You could be uneccessarily adding compression to the image when you don't need it. Also, the computer display is never the best place to get an accurate view of your video. Try watching it on a monitor or TV, and see if the problem persists.
And yes, direct export to mpeg2 (m2v and aiff) is fine. To burn a data CD use a program like Roxio Toast or Tiger's own built in DVD burning software.

  • Final Cut Pro is Sluggish

This is only my second post to forums, so again, forgive me if I break protocol.
I have Final Cut Pro 4.5. For the last three years it has been doing great. No real problems (a couple of the original audio filters crash FCP when I run them) but I've steered clear of them or used them in Soundtrack with no problem.
But that's not why I'm writing. About three weeks ago, I noticed that after about half an hour or so of editing in Final Cut, it would start to get sluggish. Even moving the scrubber would take a few seconds. I have 1G RAM and have had it since I got the computer three years ago. NO problems until just recently. When I restart FCP it runs fine again, until about another half hour in to it.
Let me know if any additional info is needed and I will do my best to supply it.
    Thanks!
    Brett

Thank you. I have tried to repair Permissions in Disk Utlity and did the whole Delete Preferences thing. Found those on the boards here before I posted. Sorry, I should have mentioned that. My bad. I will try the Applecare disks. Didn't know about those.
As for more details, it is FCP 4.5, I just loaded OS 10.4.10 But this strarted BEFORE the install. I bought Tiger because I thought it might help (and I wanted the New iLife). Quicktime version 7.2. I have three hard drives, Two are in the PowerMac Tower itself (came with them 250G each) and I have one External USB drive, but I use this one for archiving only, none of my footage is on it. Uh, let's see. My favortie color is blue, I like long walks in the park and my Apple MOTION doesn't work any more after my install of Tiger, but I already posted about that in the Motion discussion area.
I really can't think of much else. I will try the Applecare and report back what happened.

  • Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 upgrade questions...

a friend of mine has Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 and he has resisted upgrading to tiger (he is still on 10.3) because he thinks he will have to upgrade FCP as well. does FCP HD 4.5 NOT work with tiger? is my friend wrong? will it work fine in tiger?
i dont use it, but it seems to me that it should still work, just like all other programs should when you upgrade your OS. My friend is on a G5 tower... with 1GB ram... not sure about the speed, but i think its enough to not be an issue...
    thanks...

He might want a touch more RAM to be running Tiger... it uses more leaving less for the Apps, but there's many a user running FCP 4.5 on Tiger.
That said, the unversal crossgrade program is over in about 3 weeks, so it would be HIGHLY recommended by any that he take advantage of this. Depending on the software he has, the upgrade to 5.1 STUDIO could only cost him 99 bucks... 199 at the most. That's a lot of improved software he could be running on Tiger.

  • Final cut pro HD, application stops responding while attempting to open

I was using fcp 3.0.2 on a 10.3.5 G4, added the updates for os 10.3.6,10.3.7,10.3.8,10.3.9, then upgraded to QT 7pro, all yesterday. then upgraded to fcpHD from a production suite that I had but hadn't installed for about a year. now fcpHD stops responding while its starting up, always at the same spot when it says" loading audio filters", i tried starting fcp3 and it also stops responding during the application start up. any suggestions on ressurecting fcpHD or even 3? thanks, TB

    Welcome to the forum thomas93!
Post more about your Mac... when was the last time you rebuilt the startup disk from the ground up? Might download and read my article on just how to do this. It's in the first issue of the Creative COW magazine... free pdf download after registering here: http://magazine.creativecow.net/index.html
It sure sounds like your software is all messed up...
I'd trash your preference files for FCP found here: User/Library/Application support/Final Cut Pro User data folder, then see if it opens... if not I'd erase the hard drive and start over ESPECIALLY if your mac didn't come with Panther, and you just "upgraded" to it from an earlier OS long ago... You'll need to backup everything you want to save first... or install a new ATA in your Mac, and install Panther on it, then the FCP software you have. You'll not need to install any earlier versions either, just have your serial number for the older version you're upgrading from ready when you install FCP HD.
You also should be running QT 6 NOT QT 7 unless you upgrade to Tiger.

An older G-5 here at work has Classic, but mine doesn't. Do I need to get my hands on OS 9 and install it so I can have the option like the g-5??

Welcome to the forum. Please update your profile listing your computer info and OS.
