Final Cut Pro 4 update to Final Cut Studio 2

I have FCP 4 installed on a PowerBook. (I know but it was light editing and I was just starting). I just bought an iMac, 2.8G, 24inch w/Intel Duo processor. I don't want to install FCP 4 on this machine but instead would like to purchase the upgrade to Final Cut Studio 2 and install in on the iMac.
My question is, will this work? Does the upgrade look for previous versions to actually reside on the machine or will it just want the original CD (or DVD)? I love the iMac and am switching to it for everything!!!
Thanks,
Greg

The upgrade will simply ask for the previous serial number. No need for it to be installed.

I have recently update my Final Cut Pro X to Final Cut Pro X 10.1. I downloaded the update from the app store. Now every time I open Final Cut it crashes almost instantly. What can I do?- I really need help!

It sounds as though you have a corrupt project - or possibly a file within an event that is causing the application to crash.
Quit FCP X, then move your projects and events (if you have any) to new folders so that FCP X doesn't find them, then relaunch the application. If it launches OK, there's a very good chance one of your projects or events is causing the problem.
Quit the app again, then move one event or project at a time back to the original folder and launch FCP X again - keep going until you find the cause.

  • Is there a Final Cut Pro update price? I have FCP 6

Is there a Final Cut Pro update price? I have FCP 6

No, FCP X is a completely different app and everyone has to pay the full price.
    No educational discounts etc.

  • Can you upgrade from Final Cut Pro 3 to Final Cut Pro Sudio 2 with upgrade?

Does anyone know if you can upgrade from Final Cut Pro 3 to Final Cut Pro Sudio 2 with $699 upgrade?
I purchased Final Cut Pro 2 years back and then purchased the Final Cut Pro 3 upgrade. I have not used it in years, but now I want to upgrade to Final Cut Studio 2. Is this possible by just purchasing the upgrade?

Apple's web page has the requirements:
    http://store.apple.com/AppleStore/WebObjects/BizCustom?qprm=78313&productLearnMo re=MA886Z/A
The $699.00 upgrade version requires a valid serial number from a commercial version of Final Cut Studio, Production Suite, or Final Cut Pro 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. Academic and not-for-resale versions are not eligible for this upgrade.

  • Final cut pro 7 and final cut pro x

Is it wise to move from final cut pro 7 to final cut pro x for me who is already using fcp7 with no problems?

I think you should at least download the free FCPX trial and try it, for sure.  I've edited in FCP since it came out and when I really tried earnestly to learn X, after a week or two, I was really impressed.  The reasons are numerous, but one of the big improvements is speed.  FCPX is very fast at handling video, all kinds.
If you know FCP7 well, then you will already understand the importance of many aspects that apply to any HD NLE, such as drive speed, sufficient drive space, (external w/fast language, Thunderbolt, USB3 or at least FW800) etc., but also there will be a kind of learning curve to the different way FCPX organizes, maybe more of a learning wall.  But it's too much to lay on you in this reply - suffice to say I think you will love X.  Especially if you really stop to learn it.  It really is nice, and often receives completely unfair criticism.

  • Can I export Final Cut Pro files to Final Cut Express?

Can I export Final Cut Pro files to Final Cut Express?

FCE only works with DV for standard definition and the Apple Intermediate Codec for HD. Most FCP projects cannot be opened in FCE.

  • HT200166 Can I upgrade fromFinal Cut Pro 7 to Final Cut Pro X

Can I upgrade from Final Cut Pro 7 to Final Cut Pro X ?

Two more important tidbits of information:
    1) There is a free trial of FCP X, that is fully functional for 30 days, so you can try it out and learn the ropes before you buy.
    2) In case you want to bring in some old projects cut in 7, and work on them in X, you are going to need a tool called 7toX to convert them.

  • Importing final cut pro 7 to final cut X using XML

OK so I just read Apple's new FAQ and it says support for XML is forthcoming. Couldn't someone enterprising individual   just write an app which transforms FCXML from FCP 7 to FCP X XML. There could be some data loss, but better than nothing..

    the black sun wrote:
But they have said they will not be supporting import of FCP 7 projects. Sad but true.
    Factually incorrect. Sad but true.
Tell me what is factually incorrect? There is absolutely no mention or commitment to providing any sort of tool to bring in final cut pro 7 projects in any shape or form. They could have said "a limited import tool is being worked on, but will only support a limited feature set, and data loss/changes to your project may occur." But they didn't. Here's the exact quote from Apple's FAQ (emphasis added):
Can I import projects from Final Cut Pro 7 into Final Cut Pro X?
Final Cut Pro X includes an all-new project architecture structured around a trackless timeline and connected clips. In addition, Final Cut Pro X features new and redesigned audio effects, video effects, and color grading tools. Because of these changes, there is no way to “translate” or bring in old projects without changing or losing data. But if you’re already working with Final Cut Pro 7, you can continue to do so after installing Final Cut Pro X, and Final Cut Pro 7 will work with Mac OS X Lion. You can also import your media files from previous versions into Final Cut Pro X.

  • Final Cut Pro 7 vs Final Cut Pro X

I was told that Final Cut Pro X was terrible by pretty much everyone, including my teacher in my film class. I just got a macbook pro and I need a solid editing software. What is the big difference between Final Cut Pro 7 and Final Cut Pro X? Is Final Cut Pro 7 still available for purchase?

FCX isn't aweful, it's just different. Older people (like me) who've been editing for a while and have gotten used to ways of doing things don't like it much because it's completely different in it's approach. Not ALL us older types are against it...but a lot. But it isn't horrible...it is perfect for a lot of editing jobs. It's fast, it's easy...it does a lot of what many people need done. But there are tasks that some editors like myself need to do that it just doesn't do...so we don't use it.
HOW is it different? There are lots of tutorials out there for it, so find them and watch and see.  Pretty different. Too much to go into. But I assume that you are new to this whole thing, so you don't even know how FCP 7 works....so you don't know how it's different.  It's a lot to ask for in a forum post.  It doesn't capture tape from non-firewire devices, for one. No biggie if you shoot tapeless and deliver tapeless, but I still work in a world where tape is very much alive.
FCP 7 was discontined over 2 years ago...only placed you can buy it are eBay and Craigslist and places like that. But I wouldn't suggest investing in discontinued, old software.  Adobe PRemiere Pro and Avid are viable alternatives.  But I wouldn't discount FCX...it might work great for you. I hear people just starting out editing find it amazing.

  • Upgrading Final Cut Pro HD to Final Cut Studio

    Hi guys,
I literally just got the upgrade to Final Cut Studio. I was wandering the best way to go about upgrading my software.
    1. Should I just stick in the disc and run the upgrade.
    or
    2. Should I uninstall my old software and then run the upgrade.
also this is the $699 version for upgrading from Final Cut HD. So do I have to have Final Cut Pro HD installed to run theis upgrade.
    Thanks,

  • Final Cut Pro update for

I have final cut pro on my mac 10.7 needs to update with the serial number. Where do i do that? The final cut pro I have is old and says it cannot work on this computer.

The serial number for FCS came affixed to the booklet titled "Installing Your Software" that came bundled with the install discs.
FWIW, upgrades for FCP are no longer available form Apple as they have discontinued the product.  You can purchase FCP-X (version 10), which is actually version 1 of completely different software.  FCP-X is available for download from the App Store for $299.00 (USD).

  • Final Cut Pro Updates on 2nd Computer

I purchased Final Cut Pro from the App store on 21 June 2011. I have a receipt with date and order #.
I understood I could install this software on 2 computers. It is installed on a laptop (computer to which it was originally downloaded) and I copied it to a flash drive to add it to my desktop applications folder. It is used occasionally on both computers.
My problem is getting updates. When 10.0.8 was announced a few days ago I realized I had not been getting the automatic updates (for a long time) I thought were part of the deal when I purchased FCP from the App store.
Secondly, I CANNOT get updates to the desktop. When I try to update I am told "you have FCP but you did not purchase it from the App store and am asked to pay the $299 price again."
Is there a way to verify that the copy of FCP on the desktop was legitimately purchased from the App store so that I can get current updates?
    Any suggestions?
    Jerry

Are you logged into the App Store with the same user ID that purchased the software?
Yes. I have only one Apple ID. It was registered in the late 90's or very early 2000's.
Do you see the application on the purchased applications page of the App Store?
Until this morning I did not!
However, the purchase WAS listed in the app store in iTunes.
I dug into the purchases area of the App Store page a bit more this morning and found that FCP was there but was HIDDEN. Hidden for what reason I do not know. I marked it as UNHIDDEN and it showed up on the App Store purchases page on both computers.
I guess now I will have to wait until there is some activity for FCP to see it things work properly in the future.
    More later... depending!

  • New Soundtrack Pro and Final Cut Pro Updates...

There's new updates for Soundtrack Pro and Final Cut Pro on Software Update.
They seem to have fixed the problem I was having with one of my giant old projects. I used to have to open one of the audio projects before my multitrack project would open, but now it opens just fine. So far so good!

    Hi Collings,
Looks like there are two threads about the recent FCP & STP updates, so I'm posting my findings here, too.
I just found another thing that appears to be fixed in STP 1.0.2:
    Batch normalize is working:
I have a bunch of aif files that I want to normalize. I opened one in the waveform editor, applied process->normalize (level=0dB), then selected File->Save as Applescript--this creates an Applescript droplet. Then I can then grab a whole bunch of audio files and drop them all onto this droplet and they all get normalized correctly. This is a huge timesaver for me. Before this update, using this approach to batch-normalize a set of files seemed to deliver unpredictable results, but I just ran a whole set of files through, and they all played back with a peak level of 0dB (and no clipping).
Here are the other things that I've noticed so far with STP 1.0.2:
    Automation:
-In STP 1.0.1, Automation was not applied correctly on project sample rates that were not supported by the hardware (e.g. play a 96K project on a laptop built-in 48K audio interface and the automation was late by 2X) -- this is fixed!!! YAY!
-STP 1.0.1 did not handle long automation ramps across long periods of silence (it would sometimes cause a glitch at the start of the clip right after the automation ramp--there is even a support article about this)--it seems like they fixed this one, too.
    Sample rate switching:
-I see an option in general preferences to allow me to disable the "Switch hardware sample rate to match document", and with this disabled, I no longer get audible clicks from my audio interface when I switch tabs. Plus, switching tabs seems faster to me.
Realtime effects and automation in audio file projects:
-They've added a warning to inform folks about the need to bounce realtime effects and automation to an action--if you are in an audio file project with realtime effects that have not been bounced to an action and you try to save, you get a warning message.
Has anyone else noticed any other fixes or changes in this update?
