Final Cut Pro - 5.1.4 - lost items

I seem to have lost my Canvas, Tool Bench and Time Line. They are greyed out on the Windows menu and Arrange > Standard doesn't bring theme back. How do I reset my screen?

Locate a Sequence in the Browser window and double-click it to restore the Canvas and Timeline windows.

Final Cut Pro X Free Trial - Lost Past Files

I downloaded the free trial of FCP X about 20 days ago and when i went to import and begin a new project today, the past 4 projects and their original files I have worked on are gone. I have looked everywhere in my external hard drive (where I save things) and when I search under the Final Cut Pro Events/Projects, nothing is there. I'm a little concerned as the original footage is gone as well. It's like there's no trace that I ever worked on them. I know the program auto saves, but all that's on my external drive is the final exported .mov files that open in Quick Time. I opened a new project to see if it deleted the current one I was working on, and it didn't. As of right now it's saving everything that I've done since Wednesday, but prior to that.... I can't find a thing. (I've searched the computer/external hard drive/back up files.)

Unless you have another drive that is not currently mounted, this doesn't sound encouraging.
Before Wed, were you working from the Finder in events and projects? Even if you had changed the names, duplicated, organized, consolidated – whatever – if they exist, they should have the extensions you searched on.
Sorry, I'm having a hard imagining a scenario whereby both events and projects go missing at the same time – short of moving them to the trash from within FCP (which has to be done one at a time) or dragging both the Final Cut Events and Final Cut Projects to the trash in the Finder and emptying the trash.
Perhaps someone else will weigh in with some better ideas.

I lost my work after quitting Final Cut Pro X

Hi,
Yesterday, I worked for 2 hours on a project, and then I quitted Final Cut Pro X. Today, I opened the app again, and i lost all my work of yersterday!!!!
What should I do? Is there I way to get my work back?
I use an external HDD for both my events and project, and no, it is not saved by time machine...

I also noticed yesterday that the "Undo" menu item was always grayed.
So, periodicaly check if the "Undo" button is grayed (while there should be someting to undo), and if it is, quit and relaunch the app.
It it is not, duplicate the project (this forces Final Cut Pro X to save the project) and then quit and relaunch.
Really hope that Apple will fix this bug in a hurry!

What format is your problem clip? Are there wave forms visible in the section without sound?
Right click on the clip in the event broswer and choose Reveal in Finder; open the clip in Quick Time to confirm that there is sound throughout at that stage of your workflow.

Lost media for Final cut Pro X

I finished a project on final Cut Pro X and started on a new one downloading new footage. I ran out of Disk space so I started to delete events from my iphoto library. (All is backed up) I also deleted events and files that where being used in my previous project. When I go to open the project they have obviously dissapeared and I am confronted with 2 different looking boxes. One, with the usual 'Missing File' (Mainly photo's I think) with the red background icon, but also a lot of video which is replaced with a blue box with the linear look of a video and audio segment. As I say I have all the footage backed up and have re uploaded back into iphoto. I dont know how to make the program reconnect with the files I have reinstalled.

Imac 27" . Canopus advc55 firewire in from SVHS tape. Either crashes Final Cut Pro X or has gaps in transfer when sync lost between camera shots.

I have been trying for a few days to dump my SVHS camera tapes to Final Cut Pro X. Using the Canopus ADVC55 encoder fed from a Panasonic SVHS video deck into iMac firewire. The picture appears on screen but will not save as an archive atall. Trying to import into an event has a little more success. When it comes across a section of tape between camera shots without sync it either crashes Final Cut or randomly picks up the replay later or trims the shots down by about a minute. Not sure what to do to let to allow it to import a tape complete with blank sections. I have a Panasonic SVHS deck with timebase correction on output, would this help maintain a constant sync signal for the ADVC55 and final cut pro? Very frustrating just trying to dump videos to digital.

Footnote to this problem. Put a Panasonic WJ-EV5 video mixer inline between deck and Canopus ADVC55 and this maintains the sync for perfect copies. If the red light on the ADVC55 comes on during the import to event sync has been lost and FCPX crashes or aborts the copy in various ways with unpredictable files.
The import to archive still will not store the data.
Maybe Final Cut authors can explain why import to event works but import to archive does not.

Final Cut Pro timeline items vanish. OS problem?

Something strange happening when I use Final Cut Pro. I've looked for help in the Final Cut Pro forums but it's looking to be an OS problem.
Look at http://www.flickr.com/photos/46227266@N00/460849229/ to see what I'm talking about.
When I click on items in the timeline they disappear and become unselectable, revealing whatever is beneath Final Cut Pro, be it the desktop or whatever window is open beneath, and that becomes selected instead.
Any help?

Lost my Final Cut Pro disc, but I have the serial/license number

So basically I want to take my final cut pro off of one computer and put it on another. But I don't have my disc, I do have the serial/license number so is there anyway I can install it on my other computer without the disc? Or is there anyway to get a replacement disc? Thanks for your help.

Lost Final Cut Pro Installation Disc

Is there a way to get a replacement disc for Final Cut Pro 5 Academic. I lost mine and have looked hard and can't find it. OR Is there an e-mail for a support team person to Final Cut Pro so I can contact them? Please either answer one/both of the questions.

I beleive the answer is No to both.
It's kind of like losing your car ... you may still have the keys but that won't get you far, and the manufacturer is unlikely to send you a replacement.

Use the Mac App Store application and go to the purchased tab, which you'll find at the top of the Mac App Store window.

Final Cut Pro 10.1.2 update problem: shared items all deleted.

I upgraded from Final Cut Pro 10.1.1 today to 10.1.2. I've been working with 10.1.1 for a few weeks without problems and sharing videos. After the upgrade to 10.1.2 all the shared items that had been held within the "Shared items" folders have vanished and I cannot find them anywhere! Has anyone else had this problem?

No reason that should happen!???
Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, or are running 10.7+, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitiion & use Disk Utility from there.
