Final Cut Pro 5 on Snow Leopard
Hello,
I'm really not sure if this has been answered by others, but so far, everywhere I look I'm either not seeing the answer I want, or it's a different platform. I have a MacBook (Aluminum, Late 2008) Model. It originally came with 10.5 (Leopard). However, recently, I'm not too sure how long ago, I upgraded my Leopard to a Snow Leopard because there were some things that weren't working on 10.5.8 anymore. But now, my old faithful, my Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 (Academic Ver.) no longer works right =( I can still open the application and I can also play my rendered files. However, when I want to edit my clips in the slug, the audio plays, but the video doesn't. I've tried many things already, and I already have all the codecs that I need for the application to work. Unless, having 10.6.8, screws things up? Is it really true that I can't use my Final Cut on Snow Leopard now? (From all the posts that I have seen.). I really do not want to part with this program, also mainly due to the fact I have no money, and I am comfortable with the program.
But the thing that is really weird is that my sister had a MacBook Pro that came with Snow Leopard already, she installed FCP 5 on her computer and it works fine. So how come it won't work on my computer? Is it because I only have a MacBook and not a Pro?
Your feedback would be most appreciative. Thank You.
How did you install it? Perhaps a required QuickTime or Pro update is missing. Ideally, one installs from the installation disk and then run Software Update until there are no longer any available, repair permissions and start editing. I assume that you can get what you need from Software Updates, but have no way of verifying.
If you reinstall, use Digital Rebellion's FCS Remover to may sure that you delete all the many files that Christoph refers to.
Good luck.

URGENT Error in Final Cut Pro with Snow Leopard!!
I have discovered a serious flaw with Snow Leopard using Final Cut Pro.
Many of the Live Type Files in my timeline are "Media Missing In Live Type File" when converting to IMX 30MP/ps in Quicktime.
Has anyone else seeing this major problem using Final Cut Pro 6?
Is there a solution to this?
JKaiI found a way around this problem: Open Live Type then open the troubling Live Type files in your FCP timeline back to it's original format in Live Type - then using the "Render Movie" command (com/R) in Live Type convert the file again. Place it back in the Final Cut Pro timeline. This should prevent "Media Missing File" from omitting your Live Type files when converting your FCP timeline into a Quicktime file in IMX (30mb/s) or NTSV Quicktime formats.

Exporting files from Final Cut Pro in Snow Leopard
I am using Final Cut Studio 2. I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard. Before the upgrade when I would export files from Final Cut the dialog box would automatically go to the last used folder location. Now, each time it goes to the system hard drive. Is there a way to fix this?
ThanksFix what?
Just choose the correct folder to which to export. -
Final Cut Studio and Snow Leopard
Does anyone know if the Grand Central Dispatch ability has been programmed into Final Cut Studio for activation after the release of Snow Leopard on 8/28?
>Those dimensions didn't come from DV. Nor did the codec. The provenance of the material seems very murkey.
That's most likely JVC's HDV flavor...it's 720p, and HDV is MPEG-2.
Yeah, that's a big issue hitting a lot of people who captured HDV, and then upgraded to LION. The files were unreadable...

Does OS l0.5, leopard, support final cut pro 6?
need to upgrade operating system so that iphone can run on itunes 10, which doesn't run on OS 10.4. I understand that there are compatibility problems with final cut pro and snow leopard. Are there also problems with 10.5?

thx, macmacmac give me prompt. He had an interesting trick for getting the OS X Lion 'only' plugin to work on Snow Leopard
To install the plugin on Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.8 you have to temporarily change your system version number to Lion 10.7.2!
1. Go to HD:/System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist
2. Copy the file to the Desktop
3. Open the original with a text editor and change the string value of 'ProductVersion' and 'ProductUserVisibleVersion' to '10.7.2'.
4. Save & Overwrite.
I suddenly thought Apple said that Broadcast monitoring work on Lion OS X v10.7.3.I change system version number at once! Changing 10.6.8 snow leopard system version number to Lion 10.7.2!
ok,no problem. Restart final cut pro x,A/V output has appeared in FINAL CUT PRO X preferences and Window Menu
Enjoy it.HAHA!:cheer:thanks for the tip fan!

which final cut is best for macbook pro with snow leopard?
Probably FCP 7 which is part of Final Cut Studio 3.

If I update to Snow Leopard, will final cut pro still work?
If I update to Snow Leopard, will final cut pro still work? My current version of Final Cut Pro is 6.0.6. Thanks.
Apple is not telling you the Complete story about Lion.
The installer for FCP 6 is Power PC code/ IBM CPU code, which Lion does not support.
FCP 6 is NOT Power PC code, it will run on Lion and Mountain Lion, as I have read on many posts.
The solution??
Solution condition where FCP 6 installed and upgrading OS to Lion
Do nothing, its already running OK
Solution condition where FCP 6 not installed and OS Lion installed.
Connect a firewire drive to your MAC and install the old OS on it (eg snow leopard) ,
Reboot to that OS
Install FCP 6
Reboot to your new OS (EG Lion)
Run FCP 6 -
I am having weird problems with Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 and it's functionality with Snow Leopard.
Based on feedback I found online, I am being told to delete the com.apple.FinalCut Preferences and the /User Data folder. Still, I have to do that repeatedly. Whenever I open the Project file externally , FCP jams. Afterwards, it won't start up again.
Also, it is claiming not to recognize an DVCPro HD 1080i60 connection ; although, this is the same camera on my G5 Mac with FCP 5.1.4 and OSX Tiger.
Anyone with the same problem know of any solutions?
Thank you much!!I have two computers -- one at home [a G5 Mac with OS 10.4.9] and one at my producers [ new Mac Mini with Snow Leopard 10.6.4 ] .
The computer with G5 / MAC OS 10.4 runs perfectly. The new computer is flaking out excessively however.
For Quicktime, I have QT 10.0 (114) -
Is final cut pro 6 compatible with snow leopard?
Is final cut pro 6 compatible with snow leopard? I don't want to upgrade the OS if I lose FCP.
DO NOT MAKE AN IRREVERSIBLE DECISION. You should clone your startup drive so you can quickly return your system to it's previous state if there's a problem. Although Nick is always right, do you really want to trust him (or me for that matter).

Pretty sure FCPro 6 & 7 the last two versions are fine with 10.6.8.

Hi I just updated from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
I write DVD's using Final Cut Pro, creating a DVD that plays HD and Standard Definition on one disk.
My problem is when I used load the disk on my G5 it would ask if you want High Definition or Standard Definition, now it just defaults to Standard Definition.(I'm using Apple's DVD Player)
Can I fix this problem?Addendum: I read on a post here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=420169) about removing some kext files in order to trick OSX into thinking that there were no FireWire ports.
I followed the instructions and removed from /System/Library/Extensions/ the following files:
IOFireWireSerialBusProtocolTransport.kext
IOFireWireAVC.kext
IOFireWireFamily.kext
IOFireWireIP.kext
IOFireWireSBP2.kext
I restarted and BAM...Snow Leopard booted crazy fast and the mouse and keyboard worked instantly.
The System Profiler says "No FireWire ports were found."
So this tells me that the FW port is probably the culprit and is messing up the installation.
So how do I hack the Mountain Lion installer and tell it to ignore the FW port, which is obviously quite dead? Or is there something I can do to the Base system that is similar? -
Mac Pro Dual Core (pre 2009) - Leopard to Snow Leopard and Final Cut Pro 7
I have a pre 2009 Mac Pro running Leopard and Final Cut Pro 6. My question is should I upgrade to Snow Leopard, and Final Cut Pro 7? Both, neither, just one of them... and in what order?
I am afraid of some of the issues people have been discussing (one website even said with a non intel based system neither updates can be done, but I have Intel Xeon processor)
Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks kindlyYour macpro will run Snow Leopard and FCut 7 just fine. There are plenty of "whats new in Final Cut Pro" tutorials out there to research and learn whether the new things are useful to you. Snow Leopard...plenty have had issues with it. As always, it's best to have a full mirror backup before you update to Snow Leopard so if you do have problems you can go back easily. I'd definitely move to 10.5.8 if not SLeopard. I have a PCIe card that won't work with SL so I'm holding off till I install a new card. There are still some incompatibilties known so you may want to check Apple's list.

check the system requirements for these programs yourself. It can be done very easily via google instead of having others do it for you.
