Final Cut Pro 6.0.2 - AJA IO HD conflict
Hi, I just got a problem opening Final Cut Pro. FCP can not open and send always the same message: "Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly. Mac OS X and other applications are not affected."
It seems, in the report (see below), that the conflict is with AJA IO HD. I already tried to:
- restart the computer
- unplug the AJA
- change the firewire cable
- trash FCP preferences
- uninstall AJA software
- update AJA software
- run the AJA conflict checker
But none of these worked out.
When I unplug the AJA, Final cut runs without problem.
I have this problem for 2 days and the only change I made on the computer this day was installing a new software: Shake 4.1. Is there any possibility that Shake could be the reason of this conflict?

We have a G5 that has a new AJA Kona 3, Final Cut Pro 5.1.4, and OS 10.4.9. The problem is that when you try and do anything in Final Cut Pro it runs amazingly slow.

I just installed the AJA Kona LH PCI-X HD capture card in the G5 2 Ghz dual.
I configured it, but when I go to the "System Settings - effects handling" of Final Cut Pro HD 4.5, I read that all the effects can only be handled by "Final Cut PRO HD": if I click on the selection menu, the only other available heading is "none": no AJA KONA!
This is for all the formats list (DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, DV - PAL, etc...).
So every think I do, FCP must render, and time flows...

Errors Using AJA IO LA & Final Cut Pro with iMac
Has anyone experienced difficulties getting analog video through an AJA IO LA into an iMac? Control panel on AJA reads no video in or out & when Final Cut is launched I keep getting the following error message: "Unable to open specified video output device, may be in use by other applications, incorrectly connected or may be conflicting with a sound input device." If I continue into Final Cut, I am unable to capture and also have received the following error message: "An Error occurred while configuring QuickTime using the current capture preset. Please quit Final Cut Pro and check your hardware configuration"
I have no experience with the product you are using, but after looking at their website and the system requirements, it occurred to me that they only mention Power PCs and OS X Panther or later. So the problem might be that their hardware/software is not compatible with Snow Leopard, which included major changes. Have you tried contacting them to ask if your particular model is compatible with an Intel Mac and 10.6?

Audio won't follow in- point when exporting from Final Cut Pro
I am using Final cut Studio 2 on a Brand new mac pro which is connected to a an AJA IO pro box (not IO HD). If I set an in point on a time-line in Final Cut pro and send it to Compressor, only the video uses the in point. The audio starts from the beginning of the time-line. This is a huge annoyance and something I used all the time on my G5.
Does anyone have any ideas?

So I just got myself a new 24' LED monitor for my home edit suite, and I have been very pleased with it. I just happened to open FCP to see adjust my workspace for the bigger setup, and I noticed a strange problem. In FCP, the viewer and the canvas look very dark, like the brightness is turned down. It also looks that way on my laptop monitor, which has always been my second edit monitor.
However, my project exports look nothing like that on the same monitor. I thought perhaps the monitor wasn't calibrated properly, but the Quicktimes look fine. I've attached a screen shot of the problem. The image on top is the Quicktime, and the image on the bottom is the FCP canvas. What's happened to my FCP? Is it some sort of color profile or does it have to do with the resolution? Is it a FCP setting or a monitor setting? I don't understand why it changed how it looked on my laptop monitor, since nothing changed with it. Any insight would be fantastic!
ThanksI believe this is the difference between broadcast gamma output via something like a AJA KONA card and a regular monitor gamma. Go into Final Cut Pro- System Settings and select the Playback control tab. Change the Gamma Correction from "Accurate" to "Approximate"
When you reset this you can then start to calibrate your monitor. Without that gamma setting changed you can crank all of your monitor settings to maximun brightness and you'll never ever see the pluge on your color bars.

Do you think in the future upgrades drastic changes will happen to the "COLOR PART OF FINAL CUT PRO X"?That's a very subjective question and depends how far you want to take it. X has a certain level of color grading built in, and then you can extend this with plugins like Magic Bullet. And you have the ability to monitor on broadcast gear from AJA, Blackmagic and Matrox. Finally if you wanted to take things further you can use XML exchange to go into DaVinci Resolve which is as good as it gets software-wise.

Often, I much prefer that to the Manual, though the Search function is very clunky. Search for Nest for example and you'll get about 50 listings for the table of contents and indexes alone, when all I would really want is the explanation of how to actually create a Nest.

I thought the Tutorial that came with my first copy of FCP (Version 2.0) was outstanding at introducing me to the interface and how FCP operated. I came from Media 100 and in particular, the Log and Capture operation was completely different than what I was used to.

Media Manager. Not sure why it has to be so convoluted. Media 100 was too easy with this one. Select the Sequence to be up-rez'd, set your new format and capture.

How to use HDCAM with Final Cut Pro ?!?
Hi How is it possible to digtise/setup for working with HDCAM in Final Cut Pro 6? I have tried going firewire but there isn't a codec available. I have looked up this and its because Sony are owners so don't want to share...blah blah. Another option I want to try is that at work I have an AJA Bridge is it?? Is it possible to use that along with my own setup in order to get the footage into my laptop. Any advice would be great. I would prefer to use this format for my project if possible...thanks

Welcome to HD!
HDCAM is not 'native' so you'll need a third party interface to convert the video signal. Check out p.398 in the manual.
We use the BlackMagic card. But there are a number of cards and boxes out there that can get the job done....and yes, you do want to stay in the HDCAM format.
Another way we do it, is to transfer the HDCAM shoot tapes to miniDV (correlating timecode and tape numbers of course) and then digitize the miniDV stuff in natively...much quicker and easier to work with while you're editing. Then ONLINE the cut using the BlackMagic card redigitizing in your Master HDCAM footage. This might help you get started sooner while you're ordering your card.

The mac to be used is a Mac Pro, mac os x 10.5.6 with final cut pro 6, duel core intel 2.66 Ghz, 8 GB memory, 2 NVIDIA GeFource 8800GT, with a 3 TB of internal HD Spacewe don't take in HDcam, but we do use it for output archive and transmition.
the workflow we use is, Shoot in AVCintra 50 onto P2 cards transfer into FCP 6
edit in Apple Pro Res 1080i50 and output to HDcam via an AJA Kona card sending out as HD-SDI

Using a mac, I exported a video using Final Cut Pro with the setting - uncompressed 10bits, video and audio.
When i transfer the exported footage to my PC, the file format is FILE. I use quicktime to open it and wanted to save as quicktime format. however, it states i need some component. I can hear the audio but cant see any visual. Which component do i need to download in order to view the footage?Depending on how you captured it you may find a codec from the manufacturer of your capture card. AJA has such a codec on their site. If you generated the file from some other codec like dv or something you may want to try "animation" codec to cross platforms

Mini-Dvi to Video out from Final Cut Pro working
Thanx Everybody for posting reply for my post regarding running video out to external TV from Final Cut Pro in MacBook.
It's working fine.@ Studio X : The files were originally created with Final Cut Pro, rendered out to QuickTime, then are being played back with Final Cut Pro. The file that has the most noticable studdering is a 60-minute timeline sequence in Final Cut. All files are being stored and played back from the Mac Mini's internal hard drive. Everything was originally shot on DV and formatted for a 4:3 aspect ratio.
@ Shane Ross : Are there any settings in the MacOS or FCP where I can improve the HDMI video signal? Or do you know of / have any experience with Firewire to HDMI converters? Unfortunately, my new signal path relies on HDMI from the video playback.
My current setup uses the Firewire output, which is then converted to composite video & analog audio using a pair of ageing DV tape decks. That setup is becoming troublesome due to age. -
I have recently purchased MacBook Pro with Mac OSX 10.7.3 Lion and I would like to install Final Cut Pro 6 Studio2, and it came up with this error: 'you can't open application FinalCutProStudio.mpkg because PowerPc apps are no longer supported......Is there a way to run FCP6 on lion withoput this error? How to use Final Cut Pro with multiple user accounts?
Hi,
I want to use Final Cut Pro on a clean user account. How do I set it up? How can I access my old FCP library and still work on it from multiple users?
Also, I want my DropBox account to back-up my media. Any tips?I use external drives as backup. But I don't trust them. And in case of fire or what ever...It is of no use...
But I agree on your comment about DropBox. It would have been the perfect solution though.
What else is there?
I have a 2TB HD but these projects are huge and still growing - so I have to move my projects to several external drives. So maybe I should just work directly from external drives and skip the partition of the computers main drive? I am thinking of the disadvantage of reducing the total storage of the disk. -

What's wrong with my Final Cut Pro 7.03?
I have just started up a new project.
Every time I try to ad a clip in top of each other a "general error" shows up. The sequence viewer turned red and it displays that I have to close and reopen the window to restore.
The only "new thing" I do - is the use/brand of camera.
Now I use the canon D5 mark 3 for my project (before D5 mark 2)
What's wrong??? Do I need to update my Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 And how do I do this???
Final Cut Pro 7, Mac OS X (10.6.8)Did you use Log & Import? Or did you at least convert the D5 files before importing? FCP doesn't work with those files natively.

Field order in multi group report
Whilst using the wizard to construct a report using multiple query groups the final report seems to ingnore the field order I set. Is this yet another bug in reports? Does anyone have a work round? I'm I missing something?
