Final Cut Pro 7 Master Templates are white!

I can't get Master Templates working in FCP 7. I see the templates if I browse them, I can load them up in Motion no problem. But if I try and view them in the viewer, or add them to the timeline, they come up white. I have uninstalled and reinstalled FCP 7 3 times today now, and can't seem to figure out why this feature doesn't work. I've trashed preferences, everything I can think of. Anyone else having this issue?

After upgrading from FCS2 to the current studio, All video placed in Final Cut Pro or Motion shows up as either black or white, sometimes with a few small color artifacts- as if the contrast had been turned up to maximum. This issue affects even the bars and tone generator in Final Cut Pro. Audio is unaffected.
I removed all installed files and receipts and reinstalled, issue is still occurring. I've also updated to 10.5.8 and run Final Cut under another user.
This issue is occurring on an iMac Intel Core 2 Duo. I have a fresh install on my Macbook Pro which is running without any issues.

  • I have put several clips with transitions into the timeline in final cut pro. There are two clips which are followed by transitions which do not play at the right speed. It is extremely frustrating, can anyone help?

I have put several clips with transitions into the timeline in final cut pro X. There are two separate clips which are followed by transitions which do not play at the right speed. I'm at a loss as to why this is happening - any thoughts/help?

The two HD clips were purchased from itunes (MPEG - 4) and converted to .mov for use in Final Cut Pro. Project properties - 720p HD 1280x720 (60p)
    Is this enough information?

  • I have a fairly new iMac wI now have iMovie events and Final Cut pro events that are duplicates.  Does that mean that all my video is copied onto my hard dive twice?

If I have video in imovie and final cut pro X, does that mean there are two copies of the video, one for each piece of SW?  If so, how do I get rid of the imovie events and keep only the Final Cut Pro X events (video)?  I don't want multiple copies of the same video stored on the hard drive.

If you import to FCP directly from the Camera or from a camera archive, you would likely import choosing Optimized Files which would go to a FCP event that is in ProRes 422 codec. This would be in addition to your iMovie Event which would import using the Apple Intermediate Codec. So you would have two copies of the same information. An AIC copy and a larger ProRes copy.
However, if you use FILE/IMPORT/iMOVIE EVENT LIBRARY, FCP will not duplicate the event files from iMovie. It will treat them as referenced files, and will point to the iMovie Event files in the reference. So there is no duplication. You will be editing Apple Intermediate Codec files in FCP.
However, FCP will create Event folders. In addition to the reference information, these will contain thumbnail files that are compatible with FCP, stabilization and analysis files that are compatible with FCP, as well as any intermediate render files that are associated with the Event.
So in this case, there is no duplication of the large event files, but there is some duplication of the small thumbnail files.
I have several terabytes of iMovie Events, which are now all available in FCP. Believe me, I would know if they were duplicated because all my disks would be full.

  • Final Cut Pro HD effects are 'locked'

I am going through the 'surfer' tutorial in FCP, but when I try to apply the effects, I cant because it seems that they are locked.
How would I go about unlocking them?
    Thanks

Well, if I go to the effects menu on the top bar, they are grayed out and I can't select them.
If I try to click and drag them via the Effects bin, I can't. Additionally, all of the effects folders have a little lock symbol on them.
Is it because I haven't registered FCP yet? (the computer that it's on doesn't have net access yet)

  • Help!!!  Upgrading to iTunes 10.5 has destroyed all video in Final Cut Pro

After upgrading to iTunes 10.5 all of the video on my external hard drive was shot with a Canon XL-H1 and captured on a Focus Enhancements FS-CF.  The files are HDV quicktime movies with the MPEG 2, Linear Timecode codec.
Movie files that are already imported into Final Cut Pro 7 appear as white screens and will not play.  Final Cut crashes when I try to re-import them.
When I try to open them with Quicktime 7 I get a message saying "An invalid public movie atom was found in the movie."  Quicktime X won't open them either.  However, VLC plays them just fine.
I've looked in the codecs folder for Quicktime and the HDV codec is present for playback.
I'm experiencing the same issue on two systems: a brand new 27" iMac and a 17" MacBook Pro.  Both are running Snow Leopard.
I was on the phone with Apple for over 4 hours.  Ultimately they blamed my camera and hung up.
    Dear God, someone please help!

I emailed Focus Enhancements, the manufacturers of the FS-CF flash drive I use to recorde footage from my camera.  They're aware of the problem.  Here's the email I received:
Currently, there is an issue with Final Cut Pro X, Mac OSX Lion 10.7, the latest version of the Quicktime player (7.7 or any 10.0version and up) and our Quicktime HDV files. We have been working with Apple ona fix for this issue, however, I do not know when the fix will be available. The only workaround we know of at this time is to record in the .m2t fileformat and convert the footage to .mov (Quicktime).
If you are not running Lion and you have Final Cut Pro 6or 7, you may be able to downgrade your Quicktime player so your files willwork. Some of our customers have had success with downgrading their Quicktimeplayer by following the steps listed here: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/blog/posts/using_pacifist_to_downgrade_quicktime .html
If you cannot downgrade using Pacifist, you may need tocontact Apple for further assistance.
I tried the Pacifist route.  It didn't work.  And in my opinion, recording in .m2t and converting to .mov is a time consuming option, especially if you're on deadline.  I'm going to dual boot my machines with Leopard and not upgrade iTunes.
iSkysoft's video converter is the only converter I've found so far that will convert my hdv files.  But it pillarboxes the converted video and throws the audio 14 frames out of sync; issues that can be fixed in editing but then everything has to be re-rendered.
As far as Focus Enhancements working with Apple on a fix: don't hold your breath.

  • Video quality changes when imported into Final Cut Pro

I have video files that I have imported from an external hard drive that were transferred from an HD camera. When viewing the footage directly from the hard drive, the quality is great. Once imported into Final Cut Pro, however, there are small "flares" (don't know how else to describe them) that appear for split seconds across the screen. The best way to describe it is if you are watching a television that has an antenna, there will be static or interferance on the image. This is barely noticable but I can't determine what would cause the decline in quality. My video settings are set to DV NTSC 48 kHz and wonder if this is the problem or if anyone knows of something else that I should change prior to importing.

Thank you so much for your help! I am technically challenged and STRUGGLING to say the least.
Some files are definitely H.264 and I can convert them to ProRes. I also have clips that are
    DVCPRO HD 1080p25, 1,440 x 1,080 (1,888 x 1,062)
Linear PCM, 16 bit big-endian signed integer, 2 channels, 48000 Hz
    Current Size: 1,440 × 810 pixels
Will I need to do anything to those as well?
Here is the question I'm afraid to ask because I think I know the answer already. Can I simply replace the clips in my sequence with the newly compressed ProRes files or do I have to change all of the video and sequence settings and then start all over?

  • Very disappointed with G5 and Final Cut Pro

At work we bought a G5 last year for Final Cut Pro to edit plain DV video downloaded from a MiniDV camcorder via Firewire. The machine has 4gig memory, 6800 graphics, and is running FCP 5.0 with all of the Software Updates installed. The G5 is supposed to replace a much older PC that is running Adobe Premiere 2.0 on Windows XP. Even though the PC only has a single Pentium 4 CPU and older ATI X800 graphics, it does FAR more real-time effects than Final Cut Pro does on the G5. Why is this?? Almost everything I do, from titles to minor effects will appear instantly on Premiere Pro, real-time, no rendering needed. But almost everything I do on the G5 will show me a big red X until it has rendered. If I add a title, I still have to wait for it to render. If I add a light blur effect, I still have to wait for it to render. This is very annyoing and very depressing, we spent a lot of money on the G5. In reality, at least for us, it is slower than the older PC it is supposed to replace forcing us to spend a lot of time staring at those big red X'es while Final Cut Pro renders.
Are we doing something wrong? Or is this the case with all dual processor G5s running Final Cut Pro 5.0?? Is there anything we can do to speed up rendering or enable actual real-time effects/titles?

    Welcome to the family.

Simple failure to understand your new tools. Open the manual, run the tutorials. Study carefully the sections on how to set up all of your preferences for DV. It's easy and when you're done you're going to feel really silly.
If your company intends to make money with FCP you must invest time to understand what you bought since you bought it without bothering to test drive FCP on a G5. If you liked Premiere on Windows, you may never enjoy using FCP on Macintosh. The switch can be devastating. You could be one of those poor souls who just doesn't get it. Turn your system over to a more open minded person on your staff.

  • HT204382 how to convert movies from flip for use in final cut pro

How do you convert movies from a Flip video camera for use in final cut pro?

DVDs are in a socalled delivery format (mpeg2), which isn't meant and made for any processing as editing...
in recommended order, choose one of the following tools/workarounds:
DVDxDV (free trial, 25$, Pro: 90$)
    Apple mpeg2 plugin (19$) + Streamclip (free)
    VisualHub (23.32$)
    Drop2DV (free)
    Cinematize >60$
    Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
Toast 6/7/8 allows converting to dv/insert dvd, hit apple-k
connect a miniDV Camcorder with analogue input to a DVD-player and transfer disk to tape/use as converter

  • Final Cut Pro refuses to quit

This afternoon, I received my upgrade to Final Cut Studio. Diligently closing all apps (no idea why, but I do) I then inserted the install dvd and off we went.
On finishing the whole lot I took the time to reboot, just in case. Check to see if there were any updates (there were) and then opened up FCP and went to work.
Now I find I can't exit or quit FCP because I have a dialog that tells me: "You cannot quit Final Cut Pro while rendering a job for Compressor. Cancel or allow the job to finish and then quit Final Cut pro."
    THERE ARE NOT JOBS RUNNING!!!!
Could someone; anyone shed some light on what is or may be happening, please? (No comments about a coven meeting in my machine, please!)
    Many thanks

Please give your full system specifications, what computer, what drives, what camera or deck, how everything's connected, what settings are on the media, what settings you're using in Final Cut, and finally what version of the software, of the OS, and of QuickTime you are using.
Also what did you upgrade from and to as to FCP version numbers.

First, did you use Setup or Migration Assistant? That can happen when coming from a PowerMac or sometimes even from another (Intel) Mac.
Second, wait for the next version of Final Cut due very soon to ship (may have to wait for the ".1" of course to clean up any early issues.

  • How will we at edit a greenscreen background using Final Cut Pro???

Any serious help/advice is highly appreciated. My fellow classmates and I have attempt, time and time again, to figure out Apple Final Cut Pro. We are trying to EDIT our GREENSCREEN background and replace it with the background of our choice. Whether it be a picture or video. I'm so frustrated. I'm begging for detailed help.
    Thanks,
    William Blair

Good advice Nick! I've noticed a lot of new editors overlook the power of the manual. Being able to search the entire thing in seconds can make it faster and easier to find an answer than posting a question in a forum.
Here's a basic approach, select your green-screen clip, put it on top of your background, look under video effects, and add a chroma key effect. You can add multiple effects to help dial it in such as Matte Choker. That's the most basic way. FCP has a fairly good keyer. Even with bad lighting you can sometimes get it to work. Good luck.
Something I recently learned was; To export the clip with the alpha channel created by keying out the green, don't render before exporting.

  • Subtitles Final Cut pro

How do you get subtitles into a track on Final Cut Pro so they are exported within a quicktime file, I can only work out how to put ST in DVD studio pro.

It depends on what you want. Do you want sub-titles that the viewer can turn on and off from the DVD menu? Do you just want subtitles to translate the spoken word into text that the viewer has no control over? Or do you really mean "Closed Captioning?"
Viewer controlled subtitles - can only be done in DVDSP, usually with the help of a third part app like Bell-Nuit.
Non-viewer controlled - follow the last posters instructions and use a text generator
    Closed Captioning - outsource it

  • I have been using Final Cut pro v6 without any problems but recently had to reinstall.  Since then I can't open and view all my Quicktime clips.  They appear white in timeline which means you can hear audio but not view picture.  Any tips?

I have been using Final Cut Pro without any problems - v6 - for ages.  I recently had a hardware issue and had to reinstall the software.  Since then I can't open most of my QT clips in my fcp project.  They appear as white clips - audio only no pictures.  There are a few QT clips you can view as regular thumbnail images and they play ok.  What's the issue?  I have fcp v6.0.6 and QT v7.  Any thoughts on what to do next?

Yes I did software updates which updated fcp to 6.0.6 and QT to version 7.7.  That's as far as updates have taken me although i have requested daily updates.  I forgot to say the clips don't play in QT view either.  Again sound but no pictures when they are played.
