Final cut pro 7 menu bar slow

So I recently upgraded my MacBook Pro to a SSD drive.  I reinstalled OS and everything, I've noticed that since doing that Final cut pro 7 seems strange.  Whenever editing and then clicking on the menu bar it takes up to four seconds for it to respond and drop down.  I've tried rebooting, reinstalling "7.0.3" update and I've even verified and repaired the disk permissions.  PLEASE someone help.  With my standard original hard drive I never had this issue.  With both situations my media and everything was on the same hard drive.
System Specs:
OS X: 10.8.3
Proc: 2.3 GHz Core i7
Mem: 8GB
HD: 500 GB Solid State SATA Drive
Thank you in advance!
-Tim

Ran into the same issue here.
dual 2.66 6-core Mac Pro
OS 10.8.3
Did a full base 10.8 install. Ran all updates. Repaired disk perms. Ran the original FCS3 installer. Ran all updates. Repaired disk perms again. Opened FCP and got the same 4-5 second menu bar freeze. Not only the menu bar, but playing clips on the timeline has the same delay.
What I can tell you is that it's related to your specific user perms. Try logging out, logging back in as a different user (create a new one from scratch) and you'll see that FCP works just fine. So, as far as I can tell, the error is related only to the original user account that installed the application.
I didn't have enough time to research this in detail, so I just wiped the original account that installed the app and have migrated over to the new one.
Looking forward to hearing from anyone else about a more elegant solution.

  • Final Cut Pro running very slow

I've just re-installed OSX 10.3.9 and Final Cut Pro was the first program I put back on. But it's now running incredibly show - 12 hours to render 4 minutes. And any time I click anyhere, whether in the timeline or menu bar, there's a few seconds lag and often the pinwheel will come up. I have 50+ GB free space, 2GB Ram, running on a Powerbook G4.
ANY ideas as to why it's so slow? How I might fix this?

Just so you know, anyone who has any advice OTHER than not using mp4... using mp4 will take an inordinate amount of time to work with. As previously mentioned, mp4 is a delivery format, not an editing one. It is highly compressed, and editing with compressed material takes longer than it does to just convert to an i-frame only codec. Mpeg4 takes an especially long time, as compared to mpeg2 conversion, and can tie up Compressor for a long time. Use Streamclip to convert before editing. Your render times are correct for rendering an mp4 clip on a powerbook G4.

  • My final cut pro has been slowing down unbearably and creating duplicates

Hi. I have an appointment booked for the end of next week to have my laptop looked at but I was wondering if anyone might know what my issue is.
I've edited 7 projects on final cut pro 10 and they've all been fine. For some reason every time I closed the program a duplicate of my library was created to the point I had about 100 files. So when I started work on an eighth project, the program was running unbearably slow and my start up disk was full. I deleted all the duplicates but it is still running slow to the point it can't really be used, and it is still creating duplicates every time I close the program. It's also telling me my start up disk is full even though I've just deleted about 100 files and emptied them from the trash.
Another thing, I'm using an external hard drive for this project so I haven't added any new heavy files onto the computer. They're all on the hard drive.
It's a bit vague but basically how can I avoid it creating duplicates and has anyone else experienced this problem, as to why it's so slow. It may be an actual software issue in which case I'll find out next week. But in the mean time...
    Thanks
    Tom

Thanks everyone for responding. I've actually been away from my computer for the whole weekend so haven't been looking at this forum that I only posted on Friday morning. Actually had a heck of a lot else to deal with this weekend so maybe Innocentius and Russ I'd appreciate if you'd keep your rather irritating remarks to yourself. It's been two days.
I'm using Final Cut Pro 10.1.1. The system is OS X 10.9.2.
I've attached a screen shot of the details of my computer and a shot of final Cut Pro. It's actually got to the point where I can hardly open final Cut pro because the whole computer seizes up as soon as it gets turned on.
It took five attempts and several hours to export the last project I did, kept saying the start up disk was full despite the fact I deleted whole folders of videos and then tried again. I'm not sure it's the computer but more the program.
Any help much appreciated. I am busy though and not always quick with my responses.

  • Final Cut Pro 7 Running SLOW!

    I have a MacBook Pro OS X 10.5.8
    2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
I have 28.7 GB free on my disk and 160MB free in memory.
I am running Final Cut Pro 7. I am using footage I shot on a Cannon Mark 7D, the file comes into Final Cut as a .MOV.
The footage is coming from a G-technology 2TB external hardrive.
My problem is it will not play an entire clip without stopping, jumping, or plain freezing for 10 min. I haven't even been able to get into editing since I can't even watch a complete clip.
    PLEASE HELP!

The 5D shoots highly compressed H.264 files that can't be used for editing. You will need to use Log and Transfer in FCP and transcode the footage to ProRes LT. There is a plugin on canons website for transcoding in Log and Transfer. If you search this forum you will see this question asked on almost a daily basis.

  • Final Cut Pro X Exporting Slow

I have noticed that on only a certain project my export is running very slow.  I speed tested a few other projects and all of them exported at a normal speed relative to the size of the video.
I am exporting at current settings so i do not know what would be causing this to happen.
if anyone has any ideas let me know.

Sorry i've been swamped at work and just threw this up too fast.
I'm running the latest version of FCPX on the latest Mac Mini with 8GB ram. OSX Lion with everything up to date.
basically what is happening is I have a project that is running extreamly slow. even while editing. I have a feeling that the project is running slow becuase of the event becuase I have a series of FAQ videos that i am doing for a client and they are all being pulled from the same event, and it just so happens that these videos are the ones that are being slow.  The export is slow, the render is slow.
by slow i mean slower than average for all the other projects i've been working on.

  • Can I add a secondary location for Final Cut Pro Documents?

    Hi Guys,
I'm working on a large project which has taken up most of my 2tb hard drive which I use for my final cut pro documents (capture scratch, render files etc). Is it possible if I plug in another hard drive to use that as a secondary location for final cut pro documents as I have other (smaller) projects which I could be uploading and working on in the mean time? If so, how is this achieved and what are the pros / cons?

Sure -- go to Final Cut Pro menu on your menu bar and select System Settings.
The first tab is SCRATCH DISKS -- that's the term too -- not secondary folder for FCP Documents.
    Change it there.
    Drawbacks...
It has been a while since I've had to deal with this, but FCP used to not remember (feature or bug??) a project's original scratch disk location and if you change it for ONE project it will be changed for ALL future AND past projects... until you change it back.
Now, that in itself isn't a BAD thing. All that that means is that if you continue to capture material into that old project it will now put it over here instead of over there. Also, other things like render files and such which won't really matter much unless they do... and now you've got stuff spread over a coupla drives.
FCP's projects don't care. They've already mapped where they need to go to get the video and render files it needs. Move your Scratch Disk 33 times... won't make a difference to the browser and timeline. -- UNTIL you remove one of the important drives. THEN red lines galore! Un renders, missing files... messy messy messy!
Much better to start and finish a project in scratch disk. Makes for easy cleanup. Kinda like cooking thanksgiving dinner (American??) in 5 houses at once.
    Good luck,
    CaptM

  • "media server application expectly quit" when submitting from final cut pro

browsing through the list, it seems the problem couldn´t be solved so far.
doing some systematic testing, the following riddle shows up:
... when adding a QT ref movie (or movie) directly to the compressor batch list and submit to the cluster, everything runs fine.
... when exporting from final cut pro:
    menu -> export -> using compressor ...
    submitting in compressor using:
    1) Cluster: this computer: everything keeps running fine.
    2) Cluster: MylovelyCluster ....
the job fails with the message "Failed: HOST [clusternode_name.local] media server application unexpectedly quit"
since there is 5TB + of data to be compressed, copying files to the render nodes is not an option. all data is on a shared xraid, connected via giganet.
Any ideas, any hints appreciated !
    regards,
p.s. Anybody running an XSAN having the same issues?
    G5s, G4s, G3s, macminis, powerbooks   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   xraid

... well, the answer is in other topics.
showstopper explains it patently again and again ...
    thanks from here.
shortly: when submitting from FCP, every node HAS to have FCP installed and MUST have access to the same relative file path (mounted shared volume). If the volume is not present, the render node will open the reconnect media dialogue and waits for user input.

  • URGENT HELP Burning DVD from Final Cut Pro

I have a video due to buyers bye wednesday. If anyone knows how to take the movie I made and burn it to a DVD, please let me know as soon as you can. It wont let me export it to iDVD and when I try to "print to video" my camcorder only picks up the sound and not the video. I need help PLEASE!!!!!!!!! Thanks everyone. Zack

For exporting to iDVD, chose FILE>EXPORT>QUICKTIME MOVIE (not quicktime conversion). Select SELF CONTAINED and USE TIMELINE SETTINGS. Then import this file into iDVD and when you click BURN, it will compress it to the DVD format for you.
As for the Print to Video issue, look at the following list to see if it is one of these:
    Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

  • DVC Pro Tape and DV tape not good in Final Cut Pro 5?

I have a DVCPro tape along with a deck as well as a DV tape along with a deck for that.
I started final cut pro and used the NTSC easy setup. I first captured the DVC Pro, when it was done i tried to play it in the viewer and it would play for less then a second then stop. However when i brought it down to the timeline it played fine in the canvas.
So i when ahead a captured the DV tapes onto the same project. When it was completed i tried to play it back using my DV hardware to my TV but i would only see picture and no audio. ALl my settings were correct and the audio would only play on Mbox or the internal speaker in a G5. I thought i had a bad connection but the DVC Pro tape worked fine with audio. So i figured i go back to the DVC File i captured and when i pulled it up in the viewer everything is green and no picture what so ever.
    Can anyone please help

  • Final Cut Pro makes me render everything?

When I import new video into FCP it won't let me view it.
It says NOT RENDERED, and when I go to render it. It takes like 22hours!
    Any advice, tips?

#28 Having to render every clip in the timeline
Shane's Stock Answer #28: When I put a clip in the timline, I have to render it before it will play. Why?
Your clip settings MUST match your timeline settings. If you have DV/NTSC material, you need a DV/NTSC timeline. The frame rate, audio rate and dimensions (4:3, 16:9) all need to match exactly. In Final Cut Pro 6, this is easy, because when you drop a clip into the timeline, it asks if you want to set up the timeline to match the settings of the first clip you drag into it. Click YES and you are ready to go.
However, in FCP 5.1 and earlier, it is a bit trickier.
The most important thing you need to do is properly set up your project from the start, and the best way to do this is to choose a setting from the Easy Setups, located under the Final Cut Pro menu.
Once you do this, you’ll need to create a new sequence. This is because the sequence that is already in your new project is setup for the typical default setting of DV/NTSC, or for the settings of your last project, which might not match what you are currently working with. So delete SEQUENCE 1 and create a new sequence:
This new sequence will contain the settings you chose in the Easy Setup menu, and should match the format you captured.

  • Final Cut Pro opens as "Finder" in Menu Bar

My FCP Project opens on my laptop, but "Finder" is what the Menu Bar shows. If I click on any part of the interface, it turns into a Full Screen of the canvas. Or a black screen. I click Command/Tab to get back the interface, and still "Finder" instead of Final Cut Pro in the Menu Bar.
    I tried Ctl/U. Nothing.
    Any ideas please?

#44: FCP acting weird - Trash Prefs
Shane's Stock Answer #44: FCP acting weird or unusual. Just not like is normally should
If the program was working fine, and now isn't, or just isn't working the way it should, the first things to do are:
    1) Trash your FCP preferences. Download the Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/trashing_fcpprefs.html
    2) Open the Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.
    3) Shut down for 10 min. Go for a quick walk around the block and get SOME exercise today. Come back, turn on the computer and see how things are.
    4) (optional) Do the Hokey Pokey and turn your self about. Results may vary.
