Final Cut Pro 7 Running SLOW!

I have a MacBook Pro OS X 10.5.8
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
I have 28.7 GB free on my disk and 160MB free in memory.
I am running Final Cut Pro 7. I am using footage I shot on a Cannon Mark 7D, the file comes into Final Cut as a .MOV.
The footage is coming from a G-technology 2TB external hardrive.
My problem is it will not play an entire clip without stopping, jumping, or plain freezing for 10 min. I haven't even been able to get into editing since I can't even watch a complete clip.
PLEASE HELP!

The 5D shoots highly compressed H.264 files that can't be used for editing. You will need to use Log and Transfer in FCP and transcode the footage to ProRes LT. There is a plugin on canons website for transcoding in Log and Transfer. If you search this forum you will see this question asked on almost a daily basis.

  • Final Cut Pro running very slow

I've just re-installed OSX 10.3.9 and Final Cut Pro was the first program I put back on. But it's now running incredibly show - 12 hours to render 4 minutes. And any time I click anyhere, whether in the timeline or menu bar, there's a few seconds lag and often the pinwheel will come up. I have 50+ GB free space, 2GB Ram, running on a Powerbook G4.
ANY ideas as to why it's so slow? How I might fix this?

Just so you know, anyone who has any advice OTHER than not using mp4... using mp4 will take an inordinate amount of time to work with. As previously mentioned, mp4 is a delivery format, not an editing one. It is highly compressed, and editing with compressed material takes longer than it does to just convert to an i-frame only codec. Mpeg4 takes an especially long time, as compared to mpeg2 conversion, and can tie up Compressor for a long time. Use Streamclip to convert before editing. Your render times are correct for rendering an mp4 clip on a powerbook G4.

  • Installing 10.5.6 made Final Cut Pro very slow start up

After installation of OSX 10.5.6 (combo) , final cut pro 6.0.4 or 6.0.5 is very slow start up the application. I did all kinds of things such : Disc permission, DiscWarrior, Techo tool, but
it is very very slow to start up. When I re-installed final cut pro, it did start up right away,
then after restart, again final cut pro starts very very slow.
    Please advice.

    Hi Yuki,
It's very important to read the information regarding these updates before you install them. If you click the Apple logo top left in your Desktop then click Software Updates, when there is a system update available, there will be a link available for you to click and it will take you to all the information you should peruse before the update. Here is info on the 10.5.6 update. Apparently there are known 3rd party software issues. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3194
First thing I would is check the disk for errors. You need your restore disk for this.
Open Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.
Insert your Mac OS X Install disc in your computer’s optical drive or an optical drive connected to your computer, and then restart your computer. When you hear the startup tone, hold down the C key until you see the progress indicator, which looks like a spinning gear.
Follow the onscreen instructions until the menu bar appears with the Utilities menu in it, choose Utilities > Disk Utility, click First Aid, and then click the Verify button. If DU reports errors, click the Repair button. When it's finished, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Disk. In the Startup Disk window select MacintoshHD 10.x.x and click Restart.
If you restart and it's still really slow booting up, you might want to UNinstall FCP. If you do, run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions before and after you reinstall it.

  • Final Cut Pro SUPER SLOW response

I have installed Final Cut Pro 7 onto my MacBook Pro but when I open it there is a huge delay/lag with everything. If I click the file tab it takes 20 seconds just for the bar to come down, etc etc with everything else... I have tried to reinstall but its the same, updating to 7.02 and opening it has the same results...
    Please can anybody help?
    THANKS!!!

I tried this, but I wanted the pitch to stay the same. It ended up either not working, or crashing FCP X. What am I doing wrong here?
Also, is there a way to keep the pitch the same but slow down the audio and video in FCP 7?

  • Why is my final cut pro so slow?

I just started using final cut pro on my iMac and I've noticed the performance is horrible. I have an event with about 20-30 clips in them, each 10-20 seconds long. The videos are shot using a DSLR using 60p with the AVCHD format. Even when I tried to scroll the event browser, the lag is 2-3 seconds long. The panel doesn't even scroll smoothly.
Here are my specs of the iMac.
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name:          iMac
      Model Identifier:          iMac13,2
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i5
      Processor Speed:          2.9 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          6 MB
      Memory:          24 GB
      Boot ROM Version:          IM131.010A.B05

Do I need a better machine to operate final cut pro?

It is stored in my external drive, a thunderbolt raid drive. LaCie 5big.

but don't konw how? now very slow and my laptop very hot!!!!!
i try format computer and reinstall again is same problem.
Many thank for all plz help me.

Is the MBPr running all apps well other than FCP?
Run Activity Monitor to ensure the MBP is releasing memory. Run Repair Permissions in Disk Utility.
Running hot is a very subjective description. The people over at the Macbook Pro discussions might have some good ideas.
    Good luck.

  • Final Cut 7 running slow after upgrading to SNOW LEOPARD

I was happy how everything was working and just didn't install SL on my Mac Pro. The SL upgrade DVD was sitting on my desk for two months already and I was waiting for a good timing to install it [+didn't want to upgrade while I had ongoing projects+].
Few days ago, I finally upgraded to SL and was hoping for better performance... on a contrary ... FCP render takes 3 times more to finish, playback is jerky and feels like 15fps, the spinning wheel appears more often and sometimes selecting is impossible, I have to click on a canvas then try selecting again. I didn't try other Pro Apps yet so I am not sure if there will be any problems with Motion, Color or any other FCP App.
I'm working with Panasonic P2 HD material (DVCPRO HD 1080p25),
I have 350GB system drive and it has around 15% free disk space and
internal Striped RAID set 3TB [3x1TB HDD] 50% free disk space.
_I tried opening a new Admin user and Logged in from that user account but nothing changed._
Anyone experienced something like this? I'm trying to find a solution without having to go back to Leopard, so any TIP would help.
    Thank you in advance

I've heard, but can't verify, that FCS should be installed after Snow Leopard.
Before reverting your OS, try do a complete uninstall of FCS -
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcs_remover.htm
    then a re-install.

  • Final Cut Pro Multicam Slow

Iam Trying To Put My Content In Multicam And As i Do Its Loading Really Slow And Taking For Every Why Is That And How Can I Fix It? Its Really Slowing Down My Projects I Have Updated The Mac And Software But Still Having The Same Issue PLEASE HELP ME!

A week? Something is definitely wrong.
Should have asked this earlier. Is this your first multicam project? If it is, take a look at this. It's using an older version, but the same basic workflow for that version still applies.
If you have had good results in the past with multicam projects, please provide more info on the type of media you're using, what type of cameras you used., and whether you optimized the media. Also post a couple of screen shots: of your clip browser and of the  Info pane of the Inspector (with the Inspector set to Extended).

  • Final Cut Pro 7 Slow Render, Frame size changing

I have a sequence open with the following properties:
    29.97 fps frame size: 720 X 480, Compressor: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, Audio Rate: 32.0 KHZ
The Clips I'm editing with have the following properties:
    29.97 fps, 854X480, DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, 32.0 KHZ
Everything was going smoothly until this one clip I dragged in with the exact same properties changed it's frame size. There had been two perfect black bars on the top and bottom of all the shots up until this one clip that changed frame size and covered up those black bars. It's also taking forever to render any small edit I do with that troublesome clip. I was thinking it might have to do with the difference in frame sizes from the sequence properties and the clip properties. I tried to change that by clicking: 1. Sequence 2. Settings.... and changing the width and heigth but it wouldn't let me. Anyone got some tips?

Where did you get that footage?  854x480 is a display size.  It sounds like your footage was ORIGINALLY anamorphic DV.  Which is actually 720x480.  You would need to tell FCP that the footage is anamorphic, either on ingest, or by checking the anamorphic column in the browser-- EXCEPT that somehow the clips are baked in to a non standard size-- like someone exported them at the anamorphic display size.  You would do this for example if you were making a file for projection or computer use, where the anamorphic flag would not necessarily be recognized.  But you normally would not do this if you were still working with the footage in an editing program.
You might also note that the top clip above is set to less than 100% scale.
What happens if you select all in your sequence and Edit>remove attributes>basic motion and distort?
Quite a mess you've built for yourself, or someone handed you.

  • Final Cut Pro 10.1 Running Super Slow?

I have recently upgraded to Final Cut Pro 10.1 and its running incredibly slow. Before i upgrade i used to surf the web, be on iPhoto and Edit Video all day at the same time with no problems. Since Upgrading to 10.1 everything is at a crawling speed. When trying to type text. I literally need to type one letter at a time and wait one second for it to show up. and that is with only Final Cut Pro running and everything else shut off. Anyone else experiencing these problems? Please Help...  27-inch Mid 2011 iMac 3.4 Ghz Intel i7, 16 GB, 1TB SATA, AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048MB, OS X 10.9.1

Thanks Tom for the advice. I have four external hard disks, all of them formatted with Mac OS Extended Journaled. On all devices (2TB) I have more than half free space. They are connected either with Thunderbolt or USB3 cables. Different manufactures:  LaCie, Toshiba, WD and Samsung. I face the same crash problem if I connect a UBS drive 16GB or a any other device to the USB ports including the Sony Video camera connected with a USB1 cable. Same problem on ALL my computers! To work properly, I have to disconnect all USB devices and work only with internal hard disks. I also tried to format the MacbookPro (erasing the partitions with a new installation) but I have the same problem. I really lost hope...

  • Final Cut Pro 5 is Running Slow Any suggestions?

I have been using Final Cut Pro 5 with my Imac for some time now and last night i started it up and it was running very slow. I restarted my system to see if that would help but none of that helped.
Can you give me some hints on getting this thing running faster again?

  • Why is Final Cut Pro X running so slow?

Hi! I have a Mid 2012 Macbook Pro (Version OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.3, Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory 4GB 1600 MHz DDR3) and I use Final Cut Pro X on my computer, however after once I downloaded its software onto my harddrive, Final Cut Pro X runs incredibly slow. I can't even complete a 2 minute project without getting frusrated by its lack of speed. I was looking up on several discussions referring to Final Cut Pro X's lack of speed and I noticed the computer's memory usually has something to do with it. I have 4GB of memory in use, and if i purchased a 16GB memory slot, would that solve my problem with Final Cut? I was hoping it'd be a quick fix because I use Final Cut faithfully in my school's editing lab and would love for it to work on my Macbook Pro! c:

FCPX is pretty fast, although obviously your experience wouldn't support that statement.
Performance does depend a lot on hardware, and although your machine is not the beefiest (particularly with the integrated GPU), it should out-perform my 3 year old MBP.
Yes, more RAM would help. Going to 12 GB, you'll see a big difference. If you can go to 16 GB, all the better.
However, your current configuration shouldn't be unacceptably slow. Check your HD and make sure you have at least 25% free space. With only 4 GB of RAM, it's important not to have a lot of other processes active the same time. Use Activity Monitor to check on free memory and page-outs..
Also, you will have  better results if your events and projects are on a fast external drive (Thunderbolt would be best, but the selection is limited. Otherwise, there are Tb to Firewire adaptors you can try and of course, there is USB3.
    Good luck,
    Russ

  • Final Cut Pro X  does run extremely slow on the fastest macbook pro

So I bought the fastest MacBook Pro 2011 2.3 GHZ i7 8GB to start editing with final cut pro x. Even put in two Solid State Drive (vertex 3 max iops) (Vertex 3) 256GB.
So already to start and than the dissapointment. Final cut pro x is so slow that it is impossible to work with. constantly green image, movie freezes al the time. and the beachbal is constantly on the screen.
I must be doing something wrong but Can't figure it out. Editing the same files under Imovie is smooth without any problems?

  • Final cut pro 7 viewer video running slow (Strobing)

    Hey,
Im having a problem with my Final cut Pro 7. Just all of a sudden my video viewer footage when I play it back has been strobing.
    Help please?

Does this happen with all the clips you load to the viewer or just some?
Click on a clip (that is strobing)  in the FCP browser to select it, and once selected, type Command + 9 to see the item properties for that clip.
Either report those properties here or take a screen shot of the item properties for the clip and post that here.
