Final Cut Pro--Canvas screen

In FCP 7.0.1, When I pause my playhead, I can no longer see the paused frame. A white screen replaces the video. How do I stop that from happening?

Your Canvas is in Alpha Mode (but since your clip doesn't have an Alpha channel, you're getting a white overlay). Typically it's triggered when you press Shift-W , in your case by accident.
With your Canvas active, press Shift-W twice to get back to Image mode.

final cut pro x tern dark screen in the midle of project i have to tern off the computer and tern on to put to the normal screen

Anything written on the screen when this happens? Sounds like a kernel panic and us usually a hardware problem.

  • Final Cut Pro - Canvas is Black

The Canvas on my Final Cut Pro has turned black and I am unable to preview the video on it. It does however show the wireframe

Check the view menu - is it set to the "wireframe" option or the "image + wireframe" and also under "channels" (in the same menu) wether it is set to "RGB" or "alpha".
You want it to be "image+wireframe" and "RGB" respectively

  • Can QT 7.3 Upgrade Be Making My Final Cut Pro Canvas Green?

Here is a problem that has suddenly, with no apparent cause, appeared. I have read through dozens of posts complaining of a similar problems and hundreds of posts that offer advice on how to fix it.
My system is FCP 5.0.4, running on a Power Mac G5 Quad, with 4 gigs of memory. I am editing HDV. I have plenty of unused room on my scratch disk.
    THE PROBLEM
Two days ago, when I started up the program after a hiatus of 2 months, I found that my canvas was green. It is green everywhere there isn’t a clip. It is green whether I start a brand new project or open an old project. The only thing that I can think of that has changed is that I installed the QT 7.3 upgrade.
In addition, I am suddenly getting dropped-frame error messages that advise me to change my RT setting from Unlimited to Safe. I have never gotten this message before. I have fast enough processors and enough memory to handle my sequences, which aren’t that complex.
I am also losing audio intermittently. My audio functions perfectly in other applications, so it is definitely an FCP problem.
    SOLUTIONS I HAVE ATTEMPTED
The first thing everyone says is to trash my preferences. I have done this, both with the FCPRescue program and manually. I have trashed the three files under the FCP Preferences folder as well as the one other file in the preferences folder, as indicated on the Larry Jordan web site. One time I did this, it seemed to fix the problem, but the next time I started up FCP, the problem was back.
Here is the sequence in which I did this: (1) I closed out of my project in FCP; (2) I quit FCP; (3) I trashed 4 preferences files; (4) I emptied the trash; (5) I re-started the computer; (6) I started up FCP; (7) I went in and reset my preferences; and (8) I opened my main project. Green canvas. Green canvas. Green canvas.
I have checked to see that the channel is set to RGB, not Alpha.
I have tried to make sure the background is set to black. It is, but remains green.
I have checked to make sure my scratch disk is set properly.
I have, in short, tried every solution suggested on a variety of forums. The problem persists.
    QUESTIONS
Does anyone have any idea what CAUSES this problem? IS IT POSSIBLE IT IS QT 7.3?
If I trash QT 7.3, will there be dire consequences?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  • Capturing Video to my final cut pro with lines showing up on the screen

I am capturing video to my computer using final cut pro and it looks like blinds on the screen. Two separate videos showing up in alternating lines. How can I fix it.
    thanks
    randall

    This sounds like dirty heads.
I'd first try cleaning them. Then recapture.
However -- when you say 'lines'... do you mean WIDE lines or like one pixel lines you can only see if you stop the video and look really close?

  • Title Font Size in Final Cut Pro 6 for exhibition on movie theater sized screen

When editing a documentary and creating title cards (that play as part of the movie - text center of screen on black b.g.), lower thirds identifying speakers, and end credits (both single card and scrolling) are there some standard fonts and font sizes people use so the end result will not look too large when projected on a movie screen?
The titles are all from Final Cut Pro (a few from the Boris plug-in for FCP6) and there are no titles that move or that are created in Motion.
I will be able to make additional edits with the fonts sized for tv, streaming, DVD distribution etc. if I'm lucky enough to end up needing those as well.
    Thanks!

If the titling is properly composed for the frame size, it will look correct when projected. That is, if it looks font is legible and in decent proportion in your 1080 timeline, it's not important whether the display is 30 inches or 45 feet; the proportion will not change.
In terms of font selection, medium or bold sans-serif fonts work well on all screens.  "Plain" fonts like Helvetica, Ariel, or Lucinda tend to work better than the more stylized fonts, but if style is part oif your message, be my guest...
    hope this helps

  • Final Cut Pro 6 - firewire output to monitor I lose Canvas window. . .?

Hello, I am running Final Cut Pro 6 (Suite 2) on a G5 1.6 processor, etc etc.
I have noticed that with this version of FCP, that when my media goes out the firewire cable to a production monitor, that my motion of the clips STOPS in the Canvas and Viewer windows.
Anyone know why that is? Older versions of final cut, there were no problems. . .now there is? Is there some simple setting somewhere i am overlooking?
Please help! As surprisingly while it is not dire, it IS a nuisance. . .
    Thanks,
    Walt

in the Audio/Video Settings window >> A/V Devices tab
make sure you have ticked the "Mirror on Desktop" checkbox
    • Mirror on desktop: Select this checkbox to simultaneously show video on both your
computer’s display (in the Canvas or Viewer) and an external video monitor. Some
third-party video interfaces may override this setting.

  • I just finished a project in Final Cut Pro.  Looks good. BUT when I export it the slugs show as a red screen?

Final Cut Pro finished project looks good in FC but when I export The slugs appear as a Red screen  any ideas?

You certainly are new at this. That's cool, we all were new at one point.
You have a MacBookPro. That means you are using at least Mac OS X 10.5.6. Otherwise FCS 3 would not even install. You also should have QuickTime 7 installed. If you don't, it's in the Additional Installs folder  on the Mac OSX disc that came with your computer.
OS 2 is an ancient Microsoft/IBN product and doesn't run on a Mac and certainly won't run Final Cut.
Your camera shoots in AVCHD format. The files are MPEG 4 and should have been transcoded to ProRes LT for use in FCP. Your Sequence settings should also be ProRes LT to match the transcoded footage.
Your laptop is not a codec.
    Wiki definition:
A codec is a device or computer program capable of encoding and/or decoding a digital data stream or signal. word codec is a portmanteau of 'compressor-decompressor' or, more commonly, 'coder-decoder'. A codec (the program) should not be confused with a coding or compression format or standard – a format is a document (the standard), a way of storing data, while a codec is a program (an implementation) which can read or write such files. In practice "codec" is sometimes used loosely to refer to formats, however.
Don't export using QuickTime Conversion. Export as Self Contained with Current Settings (same as your FCP Sequence, which by now is hopefully ProRes LT. Import that file into iDVD.
Better yet, learn DVD Studio Pro and Compressor. Both are included in Final Cut Studio and will give you far more control and much better results.
Whilst your video is encoding, take the time to read the user manuals found in the menu bar under the Help item. They contain a wealth of information and you can amaze the teacher and fellow students with your new found knowledge.

  • Log & Capture Screen not opening and Final Cut Pro just quits! HELP!

    Hi everyone,
I've been searching through the forums and reading up on similar issues but to no avail my problem still exists and I'm about to put a hammer to my computer. I have a G5 Mac at work and use my G4 for home use. Earlier today I was at work and was capturing my footage perfect using my Canon XH A1 using firewire and everything went well. Later on in the day when working on my G4, using the same settings and equipment from earlier, when I hit apple+8 it shows that the program is understanding my command but after a min without a screen appearing, final cut pro just quits. Now I've tried everything from deleting my preferences, final cut user data, you name it and I've tried yet still not able to get the screen to capture. I've even tried switching the firewire port just in case its a bad connection and still nothing. Can someone help me out so my computer can live to see another day.
    Thank You

    You updated to 10.5?
What FCP 5 version are you running -5.0 or 5.1?
You need 5.1 if you have Mac OS X 10.5.
Also, get rid of the Norton AV -it's a terrible resource hog and interferes with everything.
I would go as far as to suggest Norton is trying to check the incoming data from your video capture.
Turn it off at least, and see if there is any improvement.
If you must use AV to avoid passing something to Windows users, get a free copy of ClamXav. It can be set to check only incoming stuff like Mail and downloads. Has a very small footprint and is only active when it should be. I use ClamXav myself as I often deal with FTP transfers.

  • Can I use a blue screen with Final Cut Pro X?

Hi, I am at a school that uses Macbooks and has just purchased a blue screen (with lighting).  I am new at chromakey / blue screening.  I know that you can use iMovie for green screens, but could somebody please tell me what is a good software to use for a blue screen?  Does Final Cut Pro X work with blue screens?
If anyone has any advice I would be very grateful!!
    Thanks,
    From Michelle.

The keyer effect in FCPX works very well with blue screen. Open effects browser and look for Keyer. When you add it to your blue screen clip it will automatically pick up the blue screen and key it out. You also have several controls to fine tune the edges etc.

  • Recently purchased a Macbook Pro with screen of retina of 13,3 inches. My question is, can I install the new Final Cut Pro X , is capable of withstanding the app? Or that Final Cut is convenient to install?

Generally any Mac made since 2009 can handle FCP X.
Your small screen is not ideal unless you are young and have good vision.
However, you needn't ask whether or not your computer is suitable as you can find out yourself by downloading the free 30 day trial.

  • Final Cut Pro X Bombing on Import Screen

    Hi everyone
    Using Final Cut Pro 10.0.9
When tyring to import media using the Import Option in FCP it just bombs out. You do get to see the import window for about 10 seconds.
I delete the .plist files for the user but had no luck. Does anyone have a suggestion what I could try please
Just to report this seems to be doing it for just one particular user......not for anyone else. It's only happening on the Import screen.
Also tried to repair the disk permissions.........no luck
I've found that you can drag a picture from the desktop onto the purple event column/ icons and the pictures will import.......so it's something afoot with the Import window itself......hmmmmm......anyone had this problem before?
    Cheers - Mike

  • How can I make my screen recording (Quicktime X) not blurry or distorted in Final Cut Pro X?

All my screen recording end up blurry (with unlegdeable font) when I put them into Final Cut Pro X. I am currently using Quicktime X but I also tried the Screenflow demo with the same effect. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

What are the exact specs of the QT movie? The project probably doesn't match it as the QT player records in completely non-standard formats. You might try rendering it and using high quality playback in playback prefs.

  • Automaticlly grabbing screen shots in Final Cut Pro 7

I am trying to find a faster way to grab screen shots on Final Cut Pro 7. Is there anyway to set it to do this automatically in the main viewer? Can I set the time?
    Thanks!

Final Cut Pro does not make screenshots of itself.
On a Mac, pressing Shift, command and 3 will take a picture of the screen in any application.
There is screen capture software that will make a video clip which can be edited. [iShowU|http://www.shinywhitebox.com/ishowuhd/main.html] is one example.
It would help if you were to describe exactly what it is that you want to achieve.

  • Final cut pro 7 goes blue screen

First troubleshooting step is to rest your fcp preferences.  Here's the best way to do that

If you need to reinstall fcp, you need to uninstall it first.  Here's the best way to do that
