After about a minute my computer freezes while in final cut pro, what can I do?
Please give complete system specs, computer, graphics card, drives, and how everything's connected.

Final Cut Pro X continuously crashes during startup
Hi,
Does anyone have a solution for Final Cut Pro X continuously crashing during startup? I can't get it to work anymore on my MacPro since I tried to import iMovie events into it (it crashed then). The error message I keep on getting in the console is:

Final Cut Pro X keeps freezing when sharing my work to You Tube, it does about 90% of the upload and then seems to get stuck. Any ideas on how to resolve this please?

My final cut pro x keep freezing?
A few general FCP X trouble-shooting suggestions.
Use this app to trash the preferences.

It should be the first thing you try when any problems occur.
Open Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.
Check you have plenty of space on your hard drive …… ideally you should have a separate one for video files.
Shutdown all other apps.
If you have a problem simply opening FCP X, create a new User Account (Admin) in System Preferences and try running FCP X from that as it sometimes works miracles.

Final Cut Pro X keeps freezing, especially when doing titles
I have been editing on Final Cut Pro X for a few months and last week it suddenly started to freeze each time I tried to edit, especially when I try to write titles. I have spoken to many 'computer' experts none of whom have been able to help.
It's working now, not as fast as before but still working so that's super! Thank you so so much!!!

Final Cut Pro X is freezing as it loads one project.
I have been editing with X for several weeks now with only the occasional hickup. Now, having spent the entire day editing a rough cut, I am no longer able to open Final Cut Pro. If I do, it freezes on the project I was working on. It tells me that currentversion.fcproject is not available at the moment.
If I delete the project it opens no problem. Does someone have a fix for this? and do I need to restart?
The other issue is how do I stop this from happening in the future?Try starting a new project and copy the currentversion.fcproject from the movies/final cut projects & movies/final cut events to the new project folder. You will need to import your source files to the event library again.

Final Cut Pro X Keeps Freezing Up
I'm running a new late 2013 Mac Pro with Final Cut Pro X, OSX 10.9.3, a 4TB Lacie Thunderbolt and a 2 TB Lacie Rugged.
I'm wrapping up a documentary and I have not had any problems with FCP X freezing up until now that I'm using Film Convert to color grade and color correct my doc.
The cameras included in this are a GoPro Hero 3, a Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera, a GH4 (slow motion in camera) and a dji phantom quadcopter. FCP X is still frozen as we speak. I keep having to force quit and reopen in order to work on the project further. Does anybody know what might be causing FCP X to freeze?

TreyI don't think memory is the cause of the freezes, If you had a memory leak, it would be likely that everything you did on the MP would just get progressively slower. Also, I recall someone else who was having some difficulties with FilmConvert and FCP X. It may have been this thread.

Catalogs too new for iMac's Final Cut Pro Computer
Final Cut Pro on my iMac will not read edits I started on my MacBook Pro. Which I had purchased recently.
How do I get iMac FCP to be updated as it tells me that the catalogs are too new?
I just tried to check for software updates and that doesn't bring anything up.
I would like to prevent from downloading it again.
When I open Final Cut Pro and have the External Hard Drive connected (which I previously used on my MacBook Pro) it comes up with: The operation couldn’t be completed. The catalog is too new.

NikkiAre you sure you have the same version of FCP on both Macs? Older versions of FCP will not open projects created with newer versions.

Final Cut Pro 7 Frame freezing and dropping frames for 3 seconds...
So, I'm creating a video which leads up to .png files being on screen for 00:00:00:20 and 00:00:00:10. When it hits that first frame of 00:00:00:20, it freezes for 3 seconds, misses out the rest of the frames before continues. What puzzles me is that in the playback window in FCP, it plays exactly how it should but when rendering out into "Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) 1920x1084 60i 48 kHz .mov" format, it plays like this...
It leads me to believe that the frames per second need to be upped but not a cut how to do this on FCP. If this is not the reason for this problem, I'd love to hear from you!
Thanks in advanced!I feel that this is your problem. Editing from a network drive is not particularly ideal as there are quite a few overheads when it comes to data transfer. Bear in mind that in a properly set up network users have a restricted amount of bandwidth to 'play" with so as to minimise horrendous bottlenecks and complaints. Additionally having only 1.9 to 2 GB of free space is a recipe for disaster. The drive could fail miserably and as a result you could lose your work. One thing that is useful to know about conventional drives is that their speed drops dramatically as you fill them up, up to the point that they crawl. I suggest you move your work into a local drive, that is one connected to the computer you use, with ample space to space (filled way below 50% of its capacity). In fact, fcp capture scratch, render and media folders should be there.

Final Cut Pro x Keeps Freezing. Help
I am trying to edit one of my short films, and every time I press play (or press space bar) it freezes, and I end up having to force quit the aplication. Every now and then it will play, but eventualy it will freeze up again. I have already tried restarting my computer, please help
You'll have to give complete specs of your computer and drives and if the media you're using? Does this happen in the event browser or the project? What are the project properties?

Final Cut Pro X keeps freezing?
Every time I open it up it takes minutes to open, and lags crazily. I can't work with it anymore and it also lags my computer until I close it... Should I delete it and then reinstall it - And is there someway I can move all my files and projects into the newly downloaded FCPX? Thanks.
Oh and I have the late 2012 MBPThis is my pet checklist for questions regarding FCP X performance - you may have already addressed some of the items but it's worth checking.
Make sure you're using the latest version of the application - FCP X 10.0.5 runs very well on my 2009 MacPro 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 16 GB RAM and ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB. I run it with Lion 10.7.5.
First, check that you have at least 20% free space on your system drive
If you have not already done so, move your Projects and Events to a fast (Firewire 800 or faster) external HD. Make sure the drive's formatted OS Extended (journalling's not required for video). You should always keep at least 20% free space on the Hard Drives that your Media, Projects and Events are on.
Check the spec of your Mac against the system requirements:

If you are getting crashes, there is some conflict on the OS. Create a new (admin) user account on your system and use FCP X from there - if it runs a lot better, there's a conflict and a clean install would be recommended.
Keep projects to 20 mins or less. If you have a long project, work on 20 min sections then paste these into a final project for export.
If you ever experience dropped frames, I strongly recommend you use ProRes 422 Proxy - it edits and plays back like silk because the files are small but lightly compressed (not much packing and unpacking to do) - but remember to select 'Original or Optimised Media' (FCP X Preferences > Playback) just before you export your movie, otherwise it will be exported at low resolution.
If you have plenty of processor power, for the ultimate editing experience, create Optimised Media - most camera native files are highly compressed and need a great deal of processor power to play back - particularly if you add titles, filters or effects. ProRes 422 takes up much more hard drive space but is very lightly compressed. It edits and plays back superbly.
Hide Audio Waveforms at all times when you don't need them (both in Browser and Storyline / Timeline). They take up a lot of processor power. (Use the switch icon at the bottom-right of your timeline to select a format without waveforms if you don't need them at the moment, then switch back when you do).
Create folders in the Project and Events libraries and put any projects you are not working on currently, in those folders. This will help a lot. There's a great application for this, called Event Manager X - for the tiny cost it's an invaluable application.

Unless you cannot edit and playback without it, turn off Background Rendering in Preferences (under Playback) - this will help general performance and you can always render when you need to by selecting the clip (or clips) and pressing Ctrl+R.
The biggest single improvement I saw in performance was when I upgraded the RAM from 8 GB to 16.

you did NOT bought a movie (that's about 200mio for a blockbuster), but the limited usage - in your case: watching it. Was the same with disks, or tapes - but it was technically easier to 'brake' such ©.

Final Cut Pro X conflicting with Logic Pro 9
As soon as I installed Logic Pro 9, Final Cut Pro X keeps freezing. It launches normally, as soon I play an item from the event browser FCPX freezes.
Anyone knows how to solve that?

I have just experienced a similar problem: I recently performed a complete reinstall of my system and throught I would keep it simple by just running FCPX and LP9 (installed in that order). Unfortunately I found (yesterday) that FCPX behaves erratically. Have you found a way to solve your problem? If so please let me know. -

we are about 4 minutes into editing a video for the first time on final cut pro x 10.1. everything was going very smoothly, but then it started freezing up. I had to do a hard reset and took it into the computer store that actually installed final cut for us. they suggested that our mac actually is not capable of keeping up with final cut. (I FIND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE!!) We work on an IMAC 2.66 ghz intel core 2 duo. 8 gb 1067 mhz ddr3. software os x 10.9.1 (hopefully that info will help for your suggestions) Because we have soooooooooooo many hours of high def video, we are working off of two external hard drives.... is this a problem?? or do we really need to upgrade our computer?????Like Russ said, check Activity Monitor and see what else is running and turn off any Applications that aren't needed.
Turn off wi-fi or disconnect the wire that goes to the Internet
Turn off Background Rendering (if you see an orange line on the top of the time line that moves along and gets shorter while you're not doing anything that is a good sign that Background Rendering is running.
I haven't used 10.1 yest but on the previous version there was a small circle approximately in the middle of the screen, about 1/2-inch or 1 cm in diameter, and it would have a number inside. The number is the percent complete of what is hapening. When it is Rendering the percentage will be shown.
Basically, you probably need to free up resources.
For what it is worth, my previous Mac Pro was a 1,1 2.66 machine, also with 8GB of, I think, 667 memory, and it would process FCPX 10.0.9 okay. It did have an upgraded video card, though.
