Final cut pro doubling files

final cut pro has been basically doubling all of my files. One was the original file straight from the camera and another was a final cut event. if i delete the one from the camera will it effect the final cut event?

Luis, not sure which browser screen you're requesting.  The only place I can find the folders is as FC Events.
That folder is organized into sub folders:
Name of Project
Backups
Original Media
Render Files
Or were you asking about something else?
Again, thanks.
Yes, I was asking about something else; not looking for stuff in the Finder, but inside FCP X - see the image below, and note the red rectangles. My point was that either changing the pop-up menu in the left red rectangle to something other than "All clips", or entering some text in the text box (red rectangle on the right), even a space, filters the displayed content, and can make clips "disappear" - they are still there, but are not displayed in the "browser".

  • Export Quicktime movie in FCP comes out as a Final Cut Pro Movie File

Does anyone know why when I Export Quicktime movie in FCP it comes out as a Final Cut Pro Movie File? I can still play it in Quicktime and it's possible to set the Quicktime Player as the default software, but it still says in my finder window that it is a Final Cut Pro Movie File.
Does anyone know if there are any settings for the clip to come out as a Quicktime Movie instead? Thank you!

+"The studio apps "brand" their exports. Actually kind of useful...+
In the words of the venerable Forest Gump, "Useful is as useful does" ... or something like that.
I actually use similar "icon" techniques in other areas of my workflow. But most of the time I just modify the file title for quick ID - I also use dashes & underscores to get things to stand out and stay at the top of lists etc.
But QT is my Go-To App for quick media reference and I have it set up to play almost all types off media when double clicked. I started doing it years ago when iTunes opened up every time I wanted to check a few seconds of an mp3 file.
I guess the best solution would have been for Apple to leave the "export FinalCut movie" option intact and simply add in an "export Quicktime movie" option as well. Or maybe add another drop down option for the tagging (branding).
At least we would have been able to make the workflow choices in-the-box rather than doing it with the OS.
    Andy Neil,
I think using the OS is the better option rather than re-compressing your movie just so you can double click into QT.

  • Saving as Quicktime or Final Cut Pro Movie File

More a general question about compression from Final Cut.
Source - HDV 3 min movie
I compressed using default settings for Export > Quicktime Movie. (Result - a Final Cut Pro Movie File)
Also I used default settings for Export > Using Quicktime Conversion, except I boosted to 'Best' quality. (Result - a Quicktime Movie file)
The latter resulted in a file size twice that of the first (in theory higher quality) but stuttered on playback once burned to disc, although plays fine from Mac hard drive.
Tried this with more than one movie and same problem of stuttering playback with higher file size QT Movie once burned to disc. Wondered what might be causing this.
Also what are the pro's and con's of saving either as a Quicktime Movie or Final Cut Pro Movie File?
    Thanks

You can't "improve" the quality of what is already a digital video. The "data" that makes up the video can't be improved once the camera records it as a file. There isn't even a theory about this. Going from one codec to a higher codec does not "add" any quality. In fact, your method is degrading your quality, as you're causing your HDV data file to be re-encoded twice to another HDV file.
You're creating a larger size video file, with less quality do to doubling the compression generation with QuickTime Conversion, and it's the unnecessary increased file size that is making the CPU work overtime to play it back.
Export > Quicktime, self-contained, this is the BEST quality you'll get, the most efficient playback, too.
If you want it to play back easier, convert it to H.264 (quality set to medium, trust me), or ProRes 422.

  • My Final Cut Pro render files seem to end up in seemingly random locations.

I find my Final Cut Pro render files seem to end up in seemingly random locations on the HDD. for example, they will appear in a sub-folder of an unrelated project. I would like my render files destination to be in a sub-folder for the project I am working on. How do you tell Final Cut where to put the render files? Can't figure it out.

By default they are put inside your scratch folder, so if you change the scratch disk and forget to change it when you switch to a different project, your render files will be put inside the other project's scratch folder.
You can change this by going to Final Cut Pro > System Settings. If you click the Set button below your current scratch disk (not the one next to it) you can assign a second location just for the video / audio renders if you desire (this must be on a different disk though).

  • Openning a Final Cut Pro 5 file in Final Cut Pro 3

    Hi,
Is there is there a way to save a final cut pro 5 file in a format that final cut pro 3 would be able to open?
    Thanks Adriel

An EDL is just like a basic spreadsheet document that
tells the software what to do.
If you transistion was more than just a standard
cross-dissolve, then the EDL probably won't be able
    to describe it..
    ...sorry!
    Oh...
So is there any other way that I can export my work and open it up on FC HD4 with the effects a transitions??
    PLEASE any one.
    Thanks Adriel

  • Export a Final Cut Pro XML file problem about translation issue

When I export the final cut pro xml file, there is always translation issue like that 'Transition <....> not translated, Cross Dissolve used instead.'
Most of the transition type can cause the translation issues except the wipe and cross dissolve.
Is there any body knowing the reason? Is that OK?
By the way , I am using the trial version of cs5

    Hey Ani_,
I've been working with Adobe products for a long time and typically when you come across an error that has anything to do with a XML file export problem its due to things such as effects you may have added in, color corrections, cross fades or any type of video transitions between clips. Remember your work flow should be
Import your footage into Premiere Pro
Name your clips (helps find things later on)
Place clips on time line in the order you wish (ONLY MAKE CUTS don't add anything, transitions color effects nothing)
Then once your clips are all placed on the timeline in your correct order you then EXPORT> Final Cut Pro XML
Now you can bring this into other programs for color grading or whatever else your going to do.  You will notice you have no errors on the export.
Once your done doing what your doing to the clips in another program (for example: Divinci Resolve color grading) you can then export them back to your main project then add your effects and transitions.

  • I can't open a Final Cut Pro 6 file in Final Cut Pro 10.  Please help!

I am a long time user of Final Cut Pro 6.  I finished a video for a client but my computer was giving me issues because it's older and needs cleaned off so it is slow and it's affecting the video.  I downloaded Final Cut Pro 10 trial on my laptop and tried opening the file in Final Cut Pro 10. No go.  I thought that it would open because usually it isn't a problem when trying to open older files in newer programs.  I understand, however, that Final Cut Pro 10 has been re-writted so it presents a problem.  Can anyone please help me with this?
    Thanks

    Russ has answered your question.
    What follows constitutes bully pulpitism.
Apple has a long history of abandoning legacy software and hardware. I would be VERY careful before I bought into the the next iteration of Apple software. The real conundrum is Adobe seems bent on extracting blood from stones with its new subscription model so it becomes a choice of lessor evils. Do you pick "the next great thing" (whatever that means) from a company that you know will cut you off at the kness or do you pick something that has a high degree of stability but will bleed you over the long run?
    Not an easy choice.

  • How do I recover a lost Final Cut Pro X file?

Help!  I was just working on a huge project Final Cut Pro when the computer completely froze, no spinning ball of death or anything.  I'd already had one crash earlier, but that was just the typical "(Not Responding)" you might get when working on an entry level computer.  On complete freeze crash, I couldn't get the computer to show any signs of response, so I finally hard reset it.  I have an external screen running, and my projects are on an external hard drive.  When I opened the computer and Final Cut Pro, my event was there, but there is no project to be seen.  I can't find it anywhere.  I've spent somewhere around 4 hours on this at the least, and hope I don't have to start the whole thing over, since I have a deadline.  Is there any way to recover it?  I looked at the other discussions, but I don't know where I would find the project file on my computer.  I'm running Final Cut Pro X 10.2.2.

Never mind, I just figured it out.  The open library from backup was greyed out a minute ago, now it worked though, and I have my project back.  Whew!  Just go to file/open library/from backup.  You just have to have the library you want the backup of to be selected.

  • I deleted a final cut pro x file.

I have found it in the trash it is now on my desktop how to i get it back into fcpx it is still in .fcp form? when i try and open it it says in final cut "The document “CurrentVersion 2.fcpproject” could not be opened. Open documents from within Final Cut Pro."

That file must be inside a folder structure. It can't be a bare project file. The file needs to be inside a folder with the name of the project, which is also embedded in that file you have. The project folder needs to be in a folder called Final Cut Projects. That folder needs to be in your Movies folder or at the root level of a secondary drive.
You should NEVER remove that file from the folder that contains it.

  • What codec do I need to view a native Final Cut Pro video file in Quicktime

Greetings all. My video editor provided me with a video file in the native Final Cut Pro format to save time as he could not convert to a .mov file. He said that he is able to open it in Quick Time Pro. I tried opening it in Quick Time Pro but I can just hear the audio. I am guessing it is a Codec issue as I my operating system is Vista (sorry!), and therefore I don't have Final Cut Pro installed. Any suggestions regarding what I need to do to be able to view the video in QT would be highly appreciated. Thanks!
My ultimate objective is to open it in QT Pro and convert it to a QT Movie, so I can then convert it to Flash Video for online streaming.

Ask the creator to send you an H.264 version of the file. The current file can't be viewed on a PC and there are no PC versions of the codec.

  • Final cut pro missing files

Hi. I'm new to this. I recently 'killed' my reconditioned mac and was lucky that the hard drive still had my final cut pro project intact.
I bought a brand new OS X and was advised to use a 'caddy' to plug the old hard drive into the new computer. I thought I had transferred all the files from the FCP project, but clearly it hadn't transferred everything. I am quite afraid I'll lose everything or hurt the original project but I desperately want to be independant of the hard drive and just use my new computer. How do I make sure all the relevant files are on my lap top?
Thanks in advance for any advice. (Its my first go at FCP and I am not very computer literate!

You need Final Cut Projects, Final Cut Events, and if applicable, Final Cut Camera Archives.  If you are using these only on your internal system drive, they should go in your Movies folder.  But it is strongly advisable to put them on an external Firewire 800 drive instead.  If you go with the external route, then the above mentioned folders should go at the root (top) level of your external drive as opposed to in the Movies folder.  The system will run faster and your videos will render quicker.  Plus you will typically have a lot more free space to work with on an external drive than on the smaller ones that usually come with the systems.  With the render files that FCP X produces you are defintely going to need the extra space. Then you should simply make a backup of the external from time to time with yet another external.  This will take away most of your worries   Best wishes.

  • Changing MOD filest to Final Cut Pro friendly files!

I am doing a a video of my school's graduation and and the camcoder I used recorded the movie in MOD files. What's the best way to convert these files to a format that Final Cut Pro or even iMovie HD can utilize? <Edited by Host> I am starting to get a little nervous because the principal wants this done by Wednesday to give out to the parents, please help! • Can final cut pro x open a final cut pro 7 file?

I editied a file on Final Cut Pro 7. I am looking to purchase Final Cut Pro X and I am wondering if I can open and edit my Final Cut Pro 7 project in Pro X?

You have to use Intelligent Assistance's 7toX to be able to bring it to FCP. If you're talking about an FCP project. If you mean an exported file, most likely, but it depends on exactly what you exported to.

  • Can you open a Final Cut Pro project file (6.0.6) in Final Cut Express (v4)

I am working on a project in Final Cut Pro (v 6.0.6) and I need to pass it off to a colleague who only has Final Cut Express (v 4). The media in the project is DVNTSC.
I went to the Apple store at the Stonestown Mall in San Francisco today and they assured me that my colleague would be able to open my FCP project file in his FCE program... but I'm skeptical.
Can you really open a FCP project file in FCE?
Could somebody who has both confirm this for me?
    Thanks,
    Sam

Under very rare circumstances can you open an FCP project in FCE. It almost never works and is not supported by Apple.

  • Self Contained Final Cut Pro Export Files unreadable in New Final Cut Pro 7

Has anyone come across this? I was using Final Cut Pro 5, created a self contained file of a current project 1.9GB in size. Uploaded the new version of Final Cut Pro 7 and upgraded to Snow Leopard, and now it tells me that this is unrecognizable as a movie file. Quicktime or Final Cut Will not open this file. I'm puzzled.

    Hi VideoJunkie
I have not come across this. However, my previous FCP 6 Self-Contained Exported ProRes 422 standard (not HQ) files which are actually 1440 x 1080 will only playback in the new QT version 10 using that aspect ratio (whatever the actual screen ratio is at 1440 x 1080, I'm not sure, but the video width is squashed together... I suppose it has something to do with showing it in square pixels versus rectangle... or do I have that turned around. I'm not sure, I have always been confused about the ProRes 1440 x 1080 format, all I know is it plays back properly in 1920 x 1080 when I transcode it for DVD or ATV, iPhone etc..). In any case, you need QT player 7 (standard or pro version) to display these files at the intended aspect ratio of 1920 x 1080. The old QT Pro player version 7 will let you change this in the properties window, but the QT 7 standard player will not let you (those options are grayed out) and the new QT X player doesn't even show these options (i.e totally unavailable).
Also, these previous files will play just fine (for me anyway) in FCP version 7. If you having a different issue where they will not play at all, then I'm not sure how to help you, but I just wanted you to be aware that my old self-contained files from FCP 6 do work (for me anyway) in the new FCP7 under Snow Leopard.
(ADDED) I must ask, what codec were your previous exported self-contained QT movies? Do you have this codec on the commuter your trying to play your old master self-contained exports on?
