Final Cut Pro (FCP) on MacBook Air. Possible?

Is it possible to run Final Cut Pro (NOT FCP X) on a MacBook Air?
I would like to be able to do basic editing, but mainly use it to dump footage on location to external harddrives.

"Traveling editor" could imply dedicated offlining. Shane, do you think that could work with a low rez ProRes codec?
I don't think anyone has tried to use an AirBook for FCP. Anyone bother to search?

Does final cut pro work on Macbook air.
I know it works fine on my Macbook Pro, but considering getting an Air for travelling, and like to import and do some basic editing while away.
Used to have a Macbook, and FCP wouldn't load on that.
Understand the Air's limitations on disk size, but only wanting it as a travelling editor.
    Thanks

  • HT3696 just wondering whether i can install final cut pro in my macbook air intel corei5

just wondering whether can i install final cut pro in my macbook air wth intel corei5 64bit

yes, you can. Its on mine.
If however you plan on anything other THAN simple cuts and simple edits, youre barking up the wrong tree.
Heavy layer and graphics additions or any serious vid. edits is not the forte' or platform for the macbook Air.

  • SD Card not showing up in Final Cut Pro on the MacBook Air

I have been using Final Cut Pro X on a Macbook Air (1.7ghz Intel i5, 256gb ssd, 4gb RAM) and when I insert an SD Card, it shows up but immediately disappears. It continues to be displayed on my friends MacBook Pro, but does not on my Air.

Apologies! All sorted. My mac was just taking so long to render the audio lol
Still having issues with syncing audio (zoom h4n) video clips (multicam clip or sync clips). Normally works like a dream even on difficult material, but for some reason now randomly sync's clips way off the mark.

  • Final Cut Pro on a MacBook Air mid 2012

    Hi,
I'm thinking about getting a new laptop with a 512 GB flash SSD. I would like to have FCP running for personal purposes (I'm starting to shoot interviews) and store more than 100 GB of pictures. Do you guys think that a MacBook Air with 8 GB of RAM is enough? I already have last year's Air and I'm really happy with it. I'm also considering the Retina but it's 1000 euro more expensive.
    Thanks for your answers

I use FCP 5.1 on a white macbook with no problem.
Although you'll seriously want to use an external firewire hard drive.
It seems like the fact that doesn't support something doesn't mean it won't work. It just seems like it may work, but don't call them with issues.

  • Fade Out to White in Final Cut Pro (FCP)

Could someone please show me how to do add a fade-to-white transition in Final Cut Pro (FCP)? (Instead of black, which is default.) I want to be able to do both: 1) fade to white; 2) and white to the picture. An example clip:
    http://www.allfilters.com/campingfilters/gravityfed/platypus-gravityworks-filter
    *Click on the "Videos" tab.
This clip ends with "fade to white." I want to apply the same effect in the beginning (white to movie).
    Thank you in advance.

Effects > Video Transitions > Dissolve> Dip to Color Dissolve ... add it at the start and end
Double click the transition at the start (the Fade In) to open it in the Viewer and change the Color property to White. For extra credit you can change the Start value to 50%. Then double click the transition at the end (the Fade Out) to open it in the Viewer and again change the Color property to White. For extra credit change the End value to 50%.
Or another way would be to use Effects > Video Generators > Matte > Color Solid to create a "White" clip and then use that to dissolve into and out of your edit using a regular Cross Dissolve transition or by placing the Color Solid on another layer and the keyframing the opacity.
    Hope it helps
    Andy

  • Is my issue with Final Cut Pro or my Macbook pro?

I'm going to try to be as thorough as possible in explaining my situation because I can't figure this problem out and it's exhausting me. I have an early 2011 macbook pro with the 2.2 ghz processor. I upgraded to 16gb of ram almost a year ago. I've been using Final Cut Pro 7 on this computer for several years now without issue and have made no setting changes that would prompt my problems. A few months ago my battery decided to stop holding a charge and now just registers 0%. Around the same time, while editing a short video my computer began behaving like it was overheating. It would crash, restart, crash and then restart again. After I did a disk and permissions repair it began to work normally again and I haven't had any more crashing issues. Around this period of time I began noticing that when my computer turns on it doesn't register the correct time and date. Given a few moments it corrects itself, but for some strange reason it was doing that every time.
Anyway, around that time I tried to upgrade to Mavericks and experienced an issue during installation because my hard drive was apparently damaged in some way and the installation couldn't be completed. I restored my previous OS and tried to carry on as I was with the damaged hard drive for as long as I could. I was still able to do everything I needed on the computer. I could still edit videos with Final Cut. I could still browse the internet. I could still stream Netflix.
About a month ago Final Cut stopped working. I could open the program, start a new project and import media files, but when I dragged them into the timeline, they just stuttered (audio would play but video would lag and then jump several frames then lag and jump frames). At the time I assumed this was because my hard drive finally gave up, but I was still able to do other functions like browse the internet and stream basketball games with nba league pass (granted they weren't crisp hd - on a side note, netflix was also behaving oddly. when I would browse through my list, it wouldn't stop scrolling when I moved the mouse away.) so I assumed the hard drive was my issue.
I just replaced my hard drive with an ssd (crucial m500) and upgraded to mavericks (10.9.1) and now I am having the same issues. Netflix behaves fine. Basketball games stream fine. My battery is still dead (obviously that wasn't going to change). I get the wrong date and time for a minute, but I'm thinking that's battery related now. But Final Cut still lags to the point where I can't use it. Video clips also won't render. I thought this might be an issue with the Final Cut program so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, but it still did the same thing. Assuming I hadn't correctly/completely uninstalled it, I downloaded HitFilm 2 (an editing program that had a free download promotion at the time), figuring using a different program, if i could edit video with it, then my issue is with Final Cut and not my computer. Unfortunaely, I'm having the same lagging issues with HitFilm as I was with Final Cut.
I'm at a loss as to what the problem is. Sorry if this was a rambling post, but I wanted to get as much of the background out there as possible, should it provides anyone with a clue as to what is the issue here. Does anyone have any idea what could be at fault here? I'm stumped.

  • Final Cut Pro 7 on Macbook Pro

Hi I am running Final Cut Pro 7 on my 2009 Macbook Pro. 13" 2.26GHZ with 4gb of Ram. I am wondering if how I should set up my final cut to optimize it for this 2 core machine. I have had a lot of troubles with dropped frames and clips. Which codecs should I be transcoding my videos into to optimize them for rendering on such a small computer and are there any specific settings I should change so Final Cut works better. I wouldnt mind having long render times just as long as everything worked as smoothly as possible. I have used Final cut on Mac Pros and never had problems no matter what the codec, I usually just convert everything to pro res 444. But im not sure if that will work on this tiny little core 2 duo processor with only 4gb of ram. Please let me know what I should do. (Sorry for the long post). Oh also I am running on Leopard, not snow leopard or lion but plan old leapord, would upgrading to snow leopard lion help me at all?

    Hi,
This is the Final Cut X forum. Your post actually belongs in the Final Cut Studio forum:
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/professional_applications/final_cut_stud io
That said, you don't need to convert to ProRes 4444 unless your clips include alpha information. In fact, you may not need ProRes 422 HQ. Try using plain vanilla ProRes 422. That should be a big speed improvement.
Final Cut Pro 7 runs on only one core. Compressor can run multiple cores, so you could take advantage of your dual core machine by converting your incoming footage in Compressor, not Final Cut. When done editing, export using the same settings as your sequence to create a master file, then use Compressor to compress to something like H.264 or .m2v for distribution. That won't speed up Final Cut, but may speed up your overall workflow.
Also check your realtime settings on your Timeline to make sure they are Unlimited RT and playback quality Dynamic.
Finally, FCS 3 seems to be somewhat faster under Snow Leopard:

  • Final Cut Pro 5 on MacBook Pro

My old MacBook Pro running a Final Cut Pro 5 got trashed by water damage. Will the newer models run this program and /or DVD studio. Can't remember old OS but prob snow leopard.

I am assuming you own the 2012 or 2013 model of the Mac Mini.  There is an ability to install Snow Leopard natively on the 2011 Mac Mini, following the work of newfoundglory on this thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3209335
    1) I have not actually tried to install and run FCP 5 in Snow Leopard Server installed into Parallels; so this is somewhat theoretical.
However, I have installed numerous other PowerPC apps into my SLS on Parallels platform and they all work better than might be expected:
So there is reason to be optimistic.
    2)  Snow Leopard Server is much easier to install and maintain in Parallels than the client version of Snow Leopard.  This distinction has greater importance now that Apple has reduced the price of SLS by 95% to the same $20 as it sells Snow Leopard.
Functionally, I see no difference between the two when installed into Parallels and I just throw off from the Dock, those apps that are Server specific, as there is no need for them.  We are just using Snow Leopard to access Rosetta.
    3)  If you have the ability to "loan" me a copy of FCP5 (and perhaps a small editing project), I would be happy to attempt to install it and see how it runs and report back to you.
An alternative is for you to invest the $20 to call Apple and purchase Snow Leopard Server (I recommend anyone who uses older software to purchase a copy and put it on the shelf, for that day when it may become indespensible!).  Then you can install it into the 14 day free trial version of Parallels:
    http://trial.parallels.com/index.php?lang=en&terr=us
and see how it works for yourself.

  • Final Cut Pro X and Macbook with 9400M chip. Has anyone tried it?

I have a late 2009 Macbook with Nvidia GeForce 9400M graphics chip. I've got 4 gig RAM installed. Apple lists this chip as working with Final Cut Pro X. Has anyone tried it on a Macbook? Is the performance adequate or should I wait until I get a more powerful laptop?

Yep, I've got a Macbook with that chipset and it runs FCPX. It's not blindingly quick but it work.

  • Can´t reinstall Final Cut pro on my Macbook without Firewire

I can't install final cut pro in my new Macbook, should it be because of no firewire port.
    It says "hardware problem"

Firewire port is not required to install Final Cut Pro. Take a look at the Final Cut Studio system requirements and cross-reference it with your system specifications to discover what hardware your computer is lacking.

  • How do I import HDR-AX2000 footage onto Final Cut Pro (FCP)?

Does anybody know how to import footage from Sony HDR-AX2000 onto Final Cut Pro? Thank you so much for your help in advance.

I figured it out! I'll post an answer here so if anybody needs help, they can follow the steps below:
    1. Connect camcorder to Mac using the USB cable that came with the camcorder and mount it on your computer desktop (Just follow the instructions on your camcorder screen).
    2. Copy the ENTIRE folder from the memory card to the desktop by dragging the folder to the desktop.
    3. Final Cut Pro > File > Log & Transfer (NOT Log & Capture)
    4. Click on "Add Volume" in the upper left corner of the window and select the "AVCHD" folder from the copied folder.
    5. Drag media to the window below or click on "Automatic Transfer."
That's it. You should have all the imported clips in your Browser window now.
