Yes or no. If i were to purchase Final Cut Pro Studio Academic 6, would i be able to use it with windows on my laptop? I would love to know beofre i purchase anything.

Final Cut is an Apple product and only runs with Apples OSX system, not with Windows.
There are similar programs for Windows, like Adobe Premiere, for example.

Technically yes, as long as you use the same Apple ID on both machine's to purchase it and to download it. The Mac in the other state will have to meant the system requirements for FCP.

Bottom line: modern camera formats are not available for PowerPC technology. You need to upgrade your hardware.

I took away my backup disk with me so just took it from there excellent. I am back home at present working on my imac. When I go to use my macbook air on these projects (when away on boat) is it easiest to simply copy the Project and Events folders in total from my imac onto the other machine and do the same upon my return in reverse? I don't use icloud

Question Final Cut Pro Viewer Window 4.5

I Have a problem with my 4.5 Final cut pro viewer window , I'am working on a project and when I Dbl click on an icon in the Browser window It gives me a white screen on the viewer window and only when I press play it will show me the clip if I push stop it will go back to the white screen, when I toggle with the curser a black x appears on the upper rt. hand corner of the white screen and nothing else. I've tried just about everything . Hope someone out there can help me

Make sure the canvas or viewer are selected then go to VIEW>CHANNELS and set it to RGB. It might be set to ALPHA.

Rendered some footage on a pc and have since lost the DV tape with it on.
Is there a way to use the window's video clip file in Final Cut Pro on a mac?
If so, will there be a big loss in quality?

There's only one likely reason, you did not use a setting that would produce a QT-compatible file. Provide that information and we'll keep trying.

Final Cut Pro search window does not SORT.

I am an editor and I use Final Cut Pro everyday. I recently had to upgrade to LION because of a wonderful Quicktime update that corrupts
video codec files on Snow Leopard. So now that I have LION I can actually edit again. But, when I try to import files into Final Cut the
search window wont sort my files by date, name, etc...
It wont actually sort by anything. Every other program works fine for that, mainly After Effects. I have to manually go find files that I used
to give a certain naming system to because I could find them easily by typing in one word.
I also cannot search the Network anymore at my office which is a real pain. We dump all our finished projects onto a huge server. Now
when I need to find an old file I have to know the exact date it was made or else I have to go searching through every folder in our server.
Any body know of any way to fix these issues without having to rewrite code which I really don't want to do with my company computer.
Also our IT people refuse to learn anything at all about MAC computers which is SO helpful...

Im not sure what you are referring to. Maybe I didn't explain the problem correctly.
Final Cut seems as if it is not indexing the files. Most of the time it won't even show me dates (modified, created, etc...) just dashes. Then if I do what you are describing and try to sort it at all it stays in the same exact order. I can't even sort alphabetically.

Exporting from Final Cut Pro for DVD Studio Pro

In the recent DVDs I've made, the quality seems lower than it has before. I don't think I've changed anything, but I was wondering what is the best format to export a clip from Final Cut Pro and the best way to encode those clips in DVD Studio Pro. Thanks for all your help!

The best and only format is mpeg2/m2v.
The encoding rate for video is based on the length of the sequence in h/m/s.
They should not be encoded in DVDSP, but exported as a self contained with current settings, no recompression and dropped into Compressor.
Based on length and the type of footage, elect a preset for video and elect Dolby 2 for audio

Advantages of using Final Cut Pro for animation

Is there anyone out there using Final Cut Pro 6 that could tell me what they feel are the advantages of using FCP 6 for animation as compared to Final Cut Express 3.5?

Okay, cool. I was gonna use that in the first place but I'm still learning it and so far all I know how to do on it is clean up the audio. I'm going through a Soundtrack Pro book right now and had to stop because I couldn't continue without a microphone. I'm getting that microphone this week and by the time I have the next batch of audio files to edit I'll know what I'm doing in Soundtrack Pro.
Thanks for the suggestion, I was seriously coming back to this question to elaborate for the sake of bumping this.
Oh yeah, if Soundtrack Pro is the answer, is it possible to bypass FCP on the way in AND on the way out?

Which final cut pro for my emac?

So I'm getting a bit bored with imovie's lack of multi layered video, and am wanting a program that can my emac can handle but that can do mutli layered video.
Final cut pro/express was my first thought, but I really dont know which version i should get.
Any one have any ideas?
My emac is a 1.25 GHz model, with 768 MB of RAM.
And for the record, I've got plenty of space for the movies on a 500GB firewire harddrive.

I run Final Cut Studio 1 (FCP 5.1) on my eMac with similar spec to you (1GB ram though).
And... it's ok.
I believe that at least FCP 6 (Studio 2) will run on an eMac... BUT I don't know how "good" it will run. And, considering you can only buy it as part of FCP studio, you are paying for apps that will NOT run - ie Color and Motion.
THAT said, FCP studio (current; FCP 7) is the only one you can buy from Apple today. And that is Intel only.
My advice... to "try" Final Cut out - get Final Cut Express. Look on eBay etc for version 3.5 though, as I understand that version was actually better (more features) than the recent v4.
FCE will give you a good feel of what FCP is about, and may well even be "enough" for your needs. Cheaper than finding a viable FC Studio option.

How would you be able to make a 3d model appear in Final Cut Pro or Motion and work, for cheap.

Not sure what you mean by work or cheap but if you're looking to do 3D modelling on the cheap I'd suggest looking into Google Sketchup or Cheetah 3D- http://www.cheetah3d.com/. FCP X and Motion are not 3D modellers.

The question has come up daily since the Intel Macs were shipped so you might try searching back a few weeks for more definitive information and check the FCP marketing/upgrade pages for a clear explanation of minimum system requirements
No. Your older version will not run on your new Intel Mac using Rosetta. You must upgrade to 5.1.1., the universal version.

I have a suggestion for you, salvaLosAngeles by submitting a feedback, within Final Cut Pro X feedback pull down menu, be sure to include this link to this discussion forum, so that Apple Final Cut Pro X software engineering team look into this.
Also try to provide Apple detailed steps that led to what you are seeing.
