Final Cut Pro - Freeze and Display Problem

When I try to render something in Final Cut, it renders for a few minutes but then the system freezes. I can still vaguely make out a dock and menu bar and final cut windows, but it's all pixelated and distorted. There are some black I can still move the mouse around (which is also distorted) but nothing happens when i click stuff. Has anyone else experienced this? Could this be a problem with my graphics card? (I bought my iMac new November 2007)
I've got FCS 2 and have installed all of the updates.

Is this a new, recent problem?
Or has this been the case since you installed it on your iMac?

  • Final cut pro rendering and exporting problem

I imported all the video files from my DVD into Final Cut Pro.....and then when I brought them into Timeline...it asks for rendering..even when i did that it is taking too long to be rendered.....also when I put that from 'Safe Rt' to 'Unlimited RT' then it is showing error of dropped frames......so what SETTINGS and PREFERENCES should i use in Easy setup so that this error doesnt occur...and also I dnt have to render the complete DVD videos files of around 2-3 hours in it....Also when I made a new sequence I kept the setting as DV Pal 24 fps.....so which setting should i use????

Sounds like when you converted the footage from the DVD, you converted to the wrong format, or the wrong specs.
With DVD VOB files, normally one would use MPEG Streamclip (freeware) to convert the VOB files to QuickTime DV/DVCpro with AIFF audio at 48khz, 16 bit.  In FCP you'd use the DV/DVCPro Easy Setup.

Quicktime 7.5 and Final Cut Pro is there a problem with this version of Quicktime?
i cant capture at all now! I can control my camera but no capture or footage in the window?
I can capture using IMovie fine!

Alister, there's no problem with it on my Mac, nor none that I know of ... I think you must have an install specific issue.
Check your camera setting matches your currently chosen Easy Setup ... in fact, close the Log and Capture window, then go ahead and re-choose the appropriate Easy Setup for your camera and I/O hardware, then choose View menu > Refresh A/V Devices, and then reopen Log and Capture ...
... still no go? if not then post pack with complete details of your hardware and software, your camera, the recording format, any I/O equipment that is in the mix etc.

I believe there is no  "Export to Tape"  feature as appeared in legacy FCP.
SORRY! Just noticed you are using FCP 6.
You need to ask this question in the Final Cut Studio forum.

i need to buy final cut pro software  and i need it to support arabic writing the problem iam in germany  the  i tune here does not give you chance to choose the
    language

If you want the menus and dialogues of the app to be in Arabic, that's not possible, there is no Arabic version of this software.
If you just want to write Arabic language titles, etc., the language of the app is irrelevant, the input of different languages is handled by the OS, and Arabic input is always available.
All Apple software is multilingual, no matter where you buy it. For example, the user interface for Final Cut Pro can be switched among English, Chinese, French, German, and Japanese.

  • Final Cut Pro Freezing

When I open Final Cut Pro, it opens fine. I check out sequences for about 30 mins without any issues. Then I edit something in one sequence. I am able to do my editing just fine. But then I get a message that the project is loading. I thought that the project had already loaded by now. What is worse is that after my edit, Final Cut Pro freezes entirely. Even after waiting another 30 mins, the project still appears to be loading. I have to force quit Final Cut Pro and restart it to be able to do anything. On the next load the same thing happens again. I am running the latest version of Final Cut Pro (just downloaded the Blu-Ray fix which fixes an issue I had before. I have to ruin numerous discs with projects being written on them only partially) on a Mac Pro late 2013. I am wondering what the issue is and how it can be fixed. As is, I cannot be very productive with Final Cut Pro.

I've no idea what is causing your problem but you should try the general troubleshooting strategies below if you have not already done so.
You also need to check that your hard drive is not more than 80% full and ideally you should be using an external hard drive.
Incidentally you can't be still using OS X 10.5.8 ?
Use this free app to trash the preferences. This should be the first thing you try when any problems occur.
             http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
    2.  With FCP X shutdown, hold down option key and select Go>Library>Application Support>Final Cut Pro  .  .  .  trash the Layouts Folder.
      3. Open Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.
      4. Trash FCP X using this free app and reinstall it.
          http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcsremover/
      5. If these 4 measures don't work, create a new User Account (Admin) in System    Preferences and try running FCP X from that as it sometimes works miracles.

  • Final Cut Pro/GY-HD111E import problems?

    Final Cut Pro/GY-HD111E import problems?
With a brand new Mac Pro and very latest Final Cut Studio complete with updates I'm having a little problem trying to import footage directly from a JVC GY-HD111E (yes I'm in PAL land, UK) via FireWire into FCP.
Footage is 720p/25p and timeline is set up in FCP that way.
I'm doing a 'capture now'. The first clip I'm trying to import is about 45 minutes long with no cuts/breaks whatsoever.
What happens is after about 60 seconds or so, it FCP automatically breaks the clip for no reason and starts a new one, trouble is, when it does this I lose about 4 seconds of footage at that point.
It continues to break clips randomly, sometimes after 40 seconds or so, sometimes after 95 seconds, but usually between 30 seconds and 2 minutes and each time it starts a new clip I lose between 1 and 6 seconds.
As I say, there are zero breaks or cuts in this clip, I have a 45 minute clip that was shot in one take, not even a pause anywhere.
Is this a JVC issue or a Final Cut issue?
It's a pain as it simply means I can't import my 9 hours of footage hence I can't get on with this project.
Any ideas why this phenomenon is happening?
    Thanks guys.

I mean I get the same errors.
    Let me explain again.
There are NO start/stop/pauses in this clip.
I'm trying to import just ONE clip with no breaks, again, there are NO start/stop/pause, it is one continuous clip of 15 minutes duration.
The JVC creates some sort of errors at the Firewire output stage, it drops frames or other errors, FCP gets confused and creates a new clip, even though it is the same clip, but due to the GoP structure, it looses a few seconds too hence I can't import the footage as I keep loosing bits here and there mid clip. It is randam, every 30 to 100 seconds or so it will do this.

  • Final Cut Pro x and Compressor 992 hour to process

I edited a 1 hour-40 minute video, on Final Cut Pro X and processed using Apple's Compressor.
I have tried different Operating Systems (Mavericks and Mountain Lion) on two different Mac Computers.
IMac 2.8 Mhz and Mac Book Pro (both 2008)
It has been transcoding to create video to run on Apple Devices, for over 6 days now, and it shows that it will take 992 hours to process.
The same video, some months back, with Mountain Lion, took a couple of days to process.
Question: Why is it taking this long now?
I have tried to get a DVD done, different types of output; none have succeeded.
I guess Apple, has made adjustments to their Operating Systems, to basically render this computers inoperable, forcing customers to buy their latest Mac models.
Yes, I went to the "Genius Bar" at Apple (twice), first they told me to increase the memory, which I did; even though months ago I had videos processed without extra memory.
The second time at the "Genius Bar", after I had installed extra memory, they had nothing to say, except that "they had a friend" with the same problem, but after "the friend" bought a new Mac, the problem was resolved.
I called Apple support and was told to "reset PRAM", which I did. Still the problem persists.
    Any ideas?

You don't mention how much RAM is in your machines, nor what are the versions of FCP X and the OS.
These can make a lot of difference. If you are trying a long export with very little RAM (and I must say 4GB is *very little* RAM), then it can get bogged down tremendously. Do you have at least 8GB?
How much free RAM is reported in Activity Monitor?
Are you using Mavericks or a previous version of the OS? Mountain Lion was notorious for slowing down to a crawl in such circumstances.
Give us more info, so we can better help.
In the meantime, you might consider exporting just a small section of the movie (use I and O to mark an in and an out point in the timeline) and see how fast it goes; keep Activity Monitor open while you are doing it.

  • Question about Final Cut Pro X and miniDV's

    Hi,
I'm thinking in buying Final Cut Pro X and use it to import and edit many hours of footage that I have on miniDV's tapes.
I've heard that to work with miniDV's, Final Cut Pro X is not great, especially regarding timecode, etc. True?
Any thoughts and advises? Many thanks!

My experience is if you're shooting SD then you shouldn't have a problem unless you are trying to load a full hour. When I tried that, the computer went crazy and loaded the video as thousands of clips just a few frames long.
That was supposed to be for a multicam shoot. I went back to FCP 7 where I've never had a single problem after at least 80 multicam projects with as many as eight cameras.
I'll have to try it again in FCP X now that there have been two updates since my last try.
I've also used HDV mini DV tapes shot with a Canon HV40. The video looked great in FCP X and I had no problem with clips that were 2-3 minutes long.
I did not load my HDV clips as ProRes in FCP X because, when I did try it, they looked like total crap. I was afraid my finished exported video would also look like that.

  • Final Cut Pro X and 7 on same system

I am using Final Cut Pro 7 and I was not very keen on Final Cut Pro X when I tried it out.
However, I have just learned that it could be advantageous workwise if I am prepared to work on some FCPX projects.
I'm just curious to know if it is safe to run both applications on the same system; e.g. do they share preference files? Do they use the same plugins folder etc.?
I know that in the past (and I mean the distant past) I have had problems trying to run different versions of the same software in the same machine and I'm too comfortable with FCP7 to just leap into working with an application about which I got an unfavourable impression and which many fellow professionals have told me instigated a move to Premiere.
Can somebody give me some definitive advice, please?

Yes it's safe and no they don't use same plug-ins.
I'm running FCS3 and FCPX, Motion5, Compresor 4 on two systems. No problems.
Bets would be to follow these steps – the same start-up explanation.

A very interesting article Ken, especially the comments about compound clips within compound clips.
I've never experienced the horrific problems some folk have claimed but then I never put compound clips within compound clips.
In  fact, until today I had never made a compound clip!

  • How can I make Final cut pro 7 and Yosemite work?

    Hi dear Apple.
I have this huge problem with Final cut pro 7 and Yosemite.
I have tried to install it on a Mac book pro that has Yosemite but it doesn't work.
I have an I mac with finalcut pro 7 working on Lion but I need to upgrade it to Yosemite to be able to use CC Adobe.
I have a feature film worth 6,7 million SEK with Final cut pro 7 and I can't translate it to XML files to premiere cause it is in its last editing process. I get an error everytime I try. Also the last version of Fcp (X) ***** for a professional editor. So.. My only option is to finish this film in Fcp7.
How can I use Yosemite and still be able to keep Fcp7?
Please help me or do something about this issue soon. I bought fcp7 for 11000 SEK at the time that was quite expensive.

Hi Meg the dog! Thanx for answering!
I know it was left to die 4 years ago. I just think its ****** up.. I work with documentaries and it takes quite a while to finish. I have done one for 6 years now. If I had known that Fcp7 was left to die I would never had started to edit 6 years ago...
I did try this recommended on the forum by another user:
Go to the app location in finder, CTRL click on the app and choose [Show Package Contents]. A folder [Contents] appears, click on it and choose [MacOS]. You'll see a Unix executable. Double click, you'll start Terminal. At the same time fcp will launch. After fcp is launched, close terminal and confirm when asked. Now fcp is up and running. Close fcp and the next time, just open fcp the normal way. DONE!
But it doesn't work for me. I can't launch fcp7.
I have Fcp7 Installed on my I mac and I wonder if that will effect fcp7 if I upgrade to Yosemte?
I tryed to export XML to work on premiere and this is what happends:
Any recommendations? I am going crazy here..

Well, when I start working (should I say try to work with FCPX, activity monitor in the %processor column for FCPX jumps rapidly over 100% and reaches more than 200% ??? What the **** is that ?
200% or more is not strange. Remember that your mac has 4 cores (you say it's 3 months old, so I assume it is a new model), so 200% amounts to using 2 of these 4 cores to the max.
Regarding the question of creating a new admin user: while it sits in the same system, it may help if the problem is caused by some user-specific preferences or settings. Not likely in your case, since you seem to have reinstalled from scratch, but still it is worth a try. It takes 5 minutes and may help pinpoint the problem.
