Not sure about this 'solution'. But after a few tries, I noticed that FaceBook feature works only when "Background Rendering' is selected to 'This Computer'. Screen shot:

  • "Final Cut Pro generated an error or unexpectedly" Error when using Qmaster

Hello all I have Final Cut Studio 3. I am using the latest Final Cut and the latest compressor.
I have a Core i7 so i am trying to use all 8 virtual threads or at least four. However when I use the "This Computer" option in compressor it is not an issue. It will compress fine. However, when i use the virtual cluster i set up with QMaster i get the dreaded "Final Cut Pro generated an error or unexpectedly" and it fails. I am unsure what to do. Here are the circumstances:
When I to compressor from FCP and use "this computer" it is no problem.
When I send to compressor from FCP and try to use your personalized cluster (taking advantage of those expensive cores!) it won't work. it fails and give me the aforementioned error.
I have enclosed a video which can be seen at:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyKsw8ii5Ig
PS I know that I can make the file quick time self contained, but this program should work on it own.

Virtual Clustering works by launching multiple copies of the Compressor encoder, each of which needs access to the source media that you are compressing. This is fine if you are compressing from a source movie clip, as they can just open the file multiple times.
But when you export from Final Cut Pro, FCP can only communicate with one copy of the encoder - it cannot launch multiple copies of itself. *Consequently, you cannot export to a virtual cluster from the Send to Compressor command.*
A common misconception is that exporting to a QuickTime movie is slower. This is wrong - it is actually faster for two reasons - 1) it is faster to read the file directly than to request each frame from FCP and 2) you have access to virtual clustering. If your timeline is completely or partially rendered, deselect Make Self-Contained and the QuickTime export will be quicker.
Another issue is that you are using up all of your virtual cores, leaving nothing left over for the operating system. There are varying schools of thought on how many to choose, ranging from the total number of cores minus one to half the number of cores (the latter being Apple's official suggestion). Also remember that each instance requires at least 1 GB of RAM, and remember to leave some extra for the OS and running applications.

  • Final cut pro fcp 6.0.6 unexpected quit using OS 10.6.8

Just upgraded to OS 10.6.8 and installed MacKeeper (big mistake) and FCP 6.0.8 quits during start up?  Trashed MacKeeper and re-installed everything but Final Cut Pro still quits during start up?  Everything else seems fine - any sugegstions about what is hapenning here?

You should probably trash your FCP preferences. This application will make it easy:

  • Final Cut Pro HD: General Error - Unable to open file

    Hi Everyone,
Problems again. Thanks for all of you who responded to my last dilemma.
Using Final Cut Pro HD, I saved my project and tried to reopen it and it won't open; gives me a "General Error 41" message. I saved a copy to the desktop and it wouldn't open either. I tried restarting, using 400 firewire and 800 firewire and nothing.
Anyone know of a solution? Thanks and appreciation ahead of time.

from the bottom of my heart - THANK YOU - it worked

  • Final Cut Pro X Export Error

When exporting my project I get an error (Quicktime Error -50). I narrowed it down to a video that I am using within my project. I didn't film it it's a video that was sent to me from a client to splice in throughout the video. I exported it without that video and it exported just fine. So why is it that when I insert this other video into the project it fails to export? I've tried all the export options, none of them work. Please help it's been over a month and I still can't figure it out. Thanks.

    Hi Russ,
thanks a lot, the problem is solved .
I turned off Background Rendering, duplicated the whole project and deleted all Render Files within the duplicated project.
    Exporting was successfully, thanks.
    Russ H wrote:
Some of the export problems that are reported do seem to relate to retimed clips. Use the range tool and select a short section of your sequence that includes a retimed clip. See if it will export as a master file. If not, turn off BG Rendering. Delete Project Render Files (from the File menu in FCP). Try exporting the same selection.

  • Final Cut Pro Studio installation error

Hey... I was installing the software. About half way through installing it said error and stopped; so I'm confused... should I trash everything installed and start all over?

I remember FCP installing first then the other programs but I wasn't paying very close attention.
You either had a strange hiccup or there is something wrong with one of the disks or there was user error.
Still, this should be a pretty simple process - just feed the disks in the order the install program asks for them. If you put in the wrong disk, it will usually tell you 'no that isn't the one I want' and spit it out. Maybe it didn't do that so you should be very clear about which disk you are feeding it.
You might as well try another install. If it crashes out again give Apple care a call. Installation issues are covered for 90 days I believe.
    Good luck.

  • Final Cut Pro - share failed error to YouTube

Never used to have a problem.  Now I'm getting this error immediately when I try to share a movie to YouTube.  Any help?  Thanks.

I figured it out.  I just shut everything down and booted up again and now it works!

  • Final cut pro X processing error

I duplicated a completed project to an external HD, and now it goes "beach ball" when I load it. What gives? All the events are copied to the external HD as well, and I've re-linked the files to the project.
I've emptied my cache, and there's plenty of room on the terrabyte HD. Thanks for your help.

That duplicates the project with three options.
The second option is Duplicate Project and Referenced Events; is that what you selected?

  • HT203477 Why does my computer quit unexpectedly when I click on "Show the Project Library" in Final Cut Pro X ?

    Hello,
When I click on "Show the Project Library" on Final Cut Pro X program, my computer unexpectedly quits.
I just purchased an iMac 27in screen, (16G Ram) and all the features suggested by the Apple representative to run Final Cut Pro X.
The program was working well for about a week. Afterward, I downloaded all my iMovie projects. I'm wondering if that has created this problem.
Any suggestions as to what the solution might be?    Thanks.
    Jack

Over the year I've used FCPX, it' s gone through "spells" where specific actions would crash it - much as you describe. Trashing preferences has nearly always fixed things. Several times, when it did not, I reinstalled the app.
However, I've never imported an  iMovie project so I can't give any first hand advice. It will be interesting to see whether FCPX opens if it doesn't see those projects. (per Tom Wolsky's advice.)

  • Final Cut Pro X Crashes when sending to device

Hey, so I'm trying to get the movies I'm creating to be .mp4 so I can put it on my phone. However, everytime I go to Share>Apple Devices, Final Cut glitches. It begins to render the movie but then freezes at the "Processing" stage of rendering. The message I get is that FCP "generated an error or unexpectedly quit". This feature was working perfectly yesterday too. Is there a way for me to fix this? Or perhaps there is another way to get .mp4 on FCPX?

You may be better of going to the FCPX forum, as I think we are all FPC7 here.
If I was doing that from FCP7 I would export to QT .mov and then convert in MPEG streamclip, but I've no idea if X works like that. Good luck anyway!

  • OMF won't export out of final cut pro.

Exporting a 93min 1920x1080 HD timeline to OMF
5 second handles tried 2 second handles as well.
OMF won't export out of final cut pro. Get error message there is a 2 gb limit.
    Final cut 6.0.6
Have deadline. Didn't see it on any forum. Help!! Thanks!!

Seems like a weird thing to not be able to do since it's called final cut PRO...
Bagging on Final Cut Pro for OMF? HA! OMF has been around LONG BEFORE FCP was introduced. It isn't an FCP issue...OMF technology is VERY old. Over 20 years I believe. I used it on Avid...and it always had a 20GB limit.
You cannot deliver 1 track via OMF. You can ask the audio person. I know that Avid now allows you to export an AAF...but FCP doesn't do AAF. For embedded audio I think that OMF is the only way. SO you have to work within the limitations of that format.

  • Looks like final cut pro does run and "runs well" on macbook

    http://www.creativemac.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=43717
"Contrary to the bizarre rumor, the MacBook can indeed run Final Cut Pro, and it can run it quite well, if these tests are any indication. For Final Cut Pro, we ran four individual tests to compare performance on a variety of functions and in both HD and SD. In most cases, the results were fairly close. The 13-inch MacBook beat the dual G5 in two of four tests, tied it in one and lost out by one second in another. All of the tests were rendering tests, which, of course, doesn't tell the whole story. But it does give a good indication of the power of a computer's CPU."

Final Cut Pro while it does run it is not supported to do so.
Please be aware also that the report only tested functionality that is not impacted by the GPU. For instance, the MacBook will more than likely fall flat on its face, comparitively, when faced with real time effects. Using FCP is not only about rendering and encoding speeds. There are other hours, day, weeks etc infornt of FCP that does not involve neither rendering or encoding.
It is a skewed report that does not taking into the account the actual "using" of FCP.
As a cheap alternative to an MBP for portability reasons… the MB will be fantastic.
