Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 HELP! "Camcorder not recognized Firewire"

I just upgraded to OS X Tiger and now FCP HD 4.5 wont recognize my XL1s. I tried repairing my disk permissions and that didn't work. Any Ideas?

I have the same problem. CANNOT capture nor print to tape (XL1s FCP5)
I have tried the Quicktime restart, no change in situation.
Is there anybody out there who solved this problem?
A few years back, there was a XL1s user saying that he 'burned his firewire'. He either turned on the camera or FCP first, and that had burned the firewire port. Apparently Canon has this problem and Sony doesn't...
I don't know if that's true, or if it is relevant. I've totally forgotten about the conversation, since I never had a problem, but this Suddenly that memory is haunting me.
Is there a proper timing to turn the VTR/Camera on? How do I know my firewire port's ruined?
Thanks,
Lost

  • IMovie nor Final Cut Pro will import video from camcorder

Both iMovie 10.0.5 and the Final Cut Pro Trial I just downloaded (to test before purchasing) will not import my movie.  The movie plays on my camcorder and it plays in both iMovie and Final Cut but when I click to import, a message appears in the top right corner that reads:  NO DATA FROM DEVICE.
Once again, the movie plays on the camera AND plays on the screen.  But there is nothing recorded into an event and no file / data transferred to the computer.
I searched the support forums and tried a freeware named DEBUT.  It worked but the video playback was very poor, scratchy and blurry.
Processor 3.5 GHz  Intel Core i7
    Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    OSX 10.9.5
    Camera Sony DCR-TRV460  (8MM, Digial 8, Hi8 tapes)
Firewire 4 pin to Firewire 800 cable, into Firewire to Thunderbolt adaptor, into iMac.
How do I get these old tapes into iMovie or Final Cut for editing?

I don't think I can help with your Digital 8 directly into iMovie 10.0.5 or FCPX, but try a few work-arounds.
Try copying iMovie'09 from old to new Mac via a memory stick or external HD. It is only 250 MB.
This still may not work on the new Mac as it may be an issue with Digital 8/Mavericks combination. Any way if you can get iMovie 09 onto new Mac ,give it a try.
    OR
Buy an external HD and transfer some data onto this to free up some space on your MacBook.
Then use your MacBook /iMovie 09 to import to Events onto your external HD.
Connect external HD to new Mac and import the  DV files in Media of iMovie 09 into FCPX.
    A word of caution!
When the files are imported into FCPX from the Media in iMovie 09 check to see if files are copied or just referenced.
If they are copied then you can delete them from iMovie 09, if they are referenced then you must not delete from 09.
You can normally tell: if copied then it takes a while to transfer,If referenced then done almost immediately.
My guess is ,they will be copied, but check.
The above is a bit messy but may get you moving with your new Mac.
Buying a new Mac is an expensive way of overcoming an overloaded HD on the MacBook. Cheaper to buy an external HD.
    This may be useful;
How can i move or copy projects and events to an external drive? (Version 9 and earlier)
Someone may be able to suggest a fix for Digital 8 into FCPX directly.

  • I can't open a Final Cut Pro 6 file in Final Cut Pro 10.  Please help!

I am a long time user of Final Cut Pro 6.  I finished a video for a client but my computer was giving me issues because it's older and needs cleaned off so it is slow and it's affecting the video.  I downloaded Final Cut Pro 10 trial on my laptop and tried opening the file in Final Cut Pro 10. No go.  I thought that it would open because usually it isn't a problem when trying to open older files in newer programs.  I understand, however, that Final Cut Pro 10 has been re-writted so it presents a problem.  Can anyone please help me with this?
    Thanks

    Russ has answered your question.
    What follows constitutes bully pulpitism.
Apple has a long history of abandoning legacy software and hardware. I would be VERY careful before I bought into the the next iteration of Apple software. The real conundrum is Adobe seems bent on extracting blood from stones with its new subscription model so it becomes a choice of lessor evils. Do you pick "the next great thing" (whatever that means) from a company that you know will cut you off at the kness or do you pick something that has a high degree of stability but will bleed you over the long run?
    Not an easy choice.

  • Log & Capture Screen not opening and Final Cut Pro just quits! HELP!

    Hi everyone,
I've been searching through the forums and reading up on similar issues but to no avail my problem still exists and I'm about to put a hammer to my computer. I have a G5 Mac at work and use my G4 for home use. Earlier today I was at work and was capturing my footage perfect using my Canon XH A1 using firewire and everything went well. Later on in the day when working on my G4, using the same settings and equipment from earlier, when I hit apple+8 it shows that the program is understanding my command but after a min without a screen appearing, final cut pro just quits. Now I've tried everything from deleting my preferences, final cut user data, you name it and I've tried yet still not able to get the screen to capture. I've even tried switching the firewire port just in case its a bad connection and still nothing. Can someone help me out so my computer can live to see another day.
    Thank You

    You updated to 10.5?
What FCP 5 version are you running -5.0 or 5.1?
You need 5.1 if you have Mac OS X 10.5.
Also, get rid of the Norton AV -it's a terrible resource hog and interferes with everything.
I would go as far as to suggest Norton is trying to check the incoming data from your video capture.
Turn it off at least, and see if there is any improvement.
If you must use AV to avoid passing something to Windows users, get a free copy of ClamXav. It can be set to check only incoming stuff like Mail and downloads. Has a very small footprint and is only active when it should be. I use ClamXav myself as I often deal with FTP transfers.

  • Final Cut Pro 5 dvd writing help!!!!

Hello, I'm new to Final Cut Pro
I've finished my project, I now need to write it to a dvd as I need to present it at University.
I can't figure out how to write it to a dvd so that it works in my dvd player.
    Please help.

    #3 output lossless DV
    Shane's Stock Answer #3:
To export your DV project so there is no loss in quality, simply go to the File Menu and select EXPORT>QUICKTIME MOVIE. Not Quicktime Conversion, fot this will compress the footage. Make sure the settings match your timeline settings, make it self contained and you are set.
Open iDVD. Create a nifty menu. Import the video. Burn the disk.

    Hi ...
Since you purchased Final Cut Pro two years ago, then post your question in the Final Cup Pro forum here.
This forum is for apps that have been purchased and downloaded from the App Store which has only been available since Jan 2011.

  • Lost one of my Final Cut Pro Discs - Can support help me?

    Hi,
Just got a new macbook pro and am installing a copy of Final Cut Studio 2 on it. (Previously had an old G5 where I installed studio)
It's a registered, official copy of Final Cut Studio 2 (Academic) and I can't seem to find 2 of my discs. Is there anything support can do for me? Or am I screwed?

Give Apple care a call and plead your case. Their number is included with the documentation that came with the software. Only they can send you replacement disks.
If you purchased it from a store, having the information about where you purchased the software including a receipt would probably be useful. If you bought it used from a person, I'd say you have a much lower chance for relief.
    Good luck.

  • Flip HD Mino and Final Cut Pro HD 4.5  - HELP

Problem is that it’s taking me hours to edit video from a Flip HD Mino
    Equipment using:
Starting with the newest FLIP HD mino cam then bringing in to a G4 POWER MAC desktop running TIGER OSX . Once I import the files on my computer they are MPEG 4’s (as opposed to AVI’s like the normal mino). I then need to bring them into Final Cut HD 4.5 to edit. Well Final Cut would not import the mpeg 4’s so I was told to try is MPEG Streamline FREE software from this site: http://www.squared5.com/
I NOW open the files in the MPEG streamline software then export as quicktime movies – H.264 with MPEG 4 audio (AAC) at 75% this seems to work and doesn’t take that much time or make the files that much bigger.
Then I can import to FINAL CUT, but when I try and watch them in the playback window they do not run in normal speed, so I have to render the entire clip in the sequence timeline. That takes hours. It's unbelievable how long it takes to render. I’m thinking maybe my sequence settings isn’t correct, but haven’t found anything that’s working where it doesn’t need to render.
    When finished the files are – Quicktime .MOV, H.264 AAC 29.97fps 1280 x 720
That’s it – any advice would be more than welcome!

I just figured it out after two days of pulling my hair out!
You use MPEG Streamclip free software from the site i posted below, then you open the MPEG4 file from FLIP HD camera - you export to "Other Formats" chose FORMAT then COMPRESSION TYPE DV/DVPRO 29.97 QUALITY MED TO HIGH THEN OTHER SETTINGS YOU PICK - AUDIO NOT COMPRESSED. Then bring into FINAL CUT. Viola!

  • Square pixels final cut pro and dvd production help

i know this is not the normal/prescribed way to do this.
i have some QT files that have been output from various programs at at 720 by 480 with square pixels.
I would like to use FCP to edit and out put the files to DVDs that can be played on computer screens and standard tvs. (i realize i may need two different output settings and two sets of DVDs.)
is this possible and what are the best sequence and audio video settings to use in FCP such that when the files output from fpc are brought into DVD pro the files for the computer playback is visually square?
    thank you kindly.
please only answer if you really know how to do this...

    hi.
    thanks for the feedback.
the are some programs like Flash that are widely used in the animation filed and that only output Square pixels. I know that Flash files have been used in broadcast work.
i am wondering if there is a output setting someone is aware of in FCP such that it would alter the dimensions in such a way that that the new files would not appear distorted. for example if you select the files in the time line and go to the motion tab and alter the aspect ratio to -12 you get something workable but with a letterbox look. I am wondering if there is another solution other that the one that you have made clear.

  • Provide Feedback for the Final Cut Pro User Manual and Onscreen Help Here

The Apple documentation team for Final Cut Pro would like to know what you think about the Final Cut Pro 5 Help documentation (available in the Help menu):
    • How often do you use the Final Cut Pro Help? Under what circumstances do you use it most?
    • How do you find what you're looking for in Final Cut Pro Help? For example: table of contents, index, skimming, PDF links, PDF search?
    • What do you like about it most?
    • What is missing?
    • Are there any particular examples of manuals or documentation that you consider to be good models for the Final Cut Pro manual and onscreen help?
    • By what method do you usually learn a new application? For example: provided tutorials and manuals, third-party tutorials or books, training classes?
    • Did you use the Final Cut Pro Getting Started book to familiarize yourself with Final Cut Pro? If so, do you feel the book provided a good introduction to the application?
    • What do you think is the most difficult feature/concept to grasp in Final Cut Pro?
    • What's the most frustrating experience you've had with the Final Cut Pro documentation?
    • Do you prefer electronic or print documentation?
    • Are there any other delivery methods or media you think we should explore?
    • What size computer display do you typically use to view the onscreen help? For example: 15-inch, 17-inch, 20-inch, 23-inch, or 30-inch?
    • What resolution is the computer display set to when you view onscreen help? For example: 1024 x 768, 1280 x 854, or 1920 x 1200 pixels?
    • Do you use multiple computer displays?

    • How often do you use the Final Cut Pro Help? Under
what circumstances do you use it most?
Often, I much prefer that to the Manual, though the Search function is very clunky. Search for Nest for example and you'll get about 50 listings for the table of contents and indexes alone, when all I would really want is the explanation of how to actually create a Nest.
    • How do you find what you're looking for in Final
Cut Pro Help? For example: table of contents, index,
    skimming, PDF links, PDF search?
    Search.
    • What do you like about it most?
Ease of use to get through the manual instead of going through the books themselves.
    • What is missing?
Better organization of the search results. Again, if I search Nests, make the first set of results the answers that actually show me how to use the tool, not the 50 times it appears in the table of contents and indexes.
    • Are there any particular examples of manuals or
documentation that you consider to be good models for
the Final Cut Pro manual and onscreen help?
Honestly, Apple's is the best I've seen for the moment.
    • By what method do you usually learn a new
application? For example: provided tutorials and
manuals, third-party tutorials or books, training
    classes?
Just crack the app open and start. Use websites like the Creative Cow for more input and ideas.
    • Did you use the Final Cut Pro Getting Started book
to familiarize yourself with Final Cut Pro? If so, do
you feel the book provided a good introduction to the
    application?
I thought the Tutorial that came with my first copy of FCP (Version 2.0) was outstanding at introducing me to the interface and how FCP operated. I came from Media 100 and in particular, the Log and Capture operation was completely different than what I was used to.
    • What do you think is the most difficult
feature/concept to grasp in Final Cut Pro?
Media Manager. Not sure why it has to be so convoluted. Media 100 was too easy with this one. Select the Sequence to be up-rez'd, set your new format and capture.
    • What's the most frustrating experience you've had
with the Final Cut Pro documentation?
Search results using the Help menu.
    • Do you prefer electronic or print documentation?
Actually both. If the electronic search gets too frustrating, I'll pull the print manual out to find what I really need.
    • Are there any other delivery methods or media you
    think we should explore?
Not really. Internet based help is always nice, but I don't keep my FCP workstations connected to the web so that would actually create a bigger hassle for us.
    • What size computer display do you typically use to
view the onscreen help? For example: 15-inch,
    17-inch, 20-inch, 23-inch, or 30-inch?
    17" Powerbook display, 17" 20" and 23" Apple Displays and a 17" Sony Display.
    • What resolution is the computer display set to when
you view onscreen help? For example: 1024 x 768, 1280
    x 854, or 1920 x 1200 pixels?
    Highest resolution for that monitor.
    • Do you use multiple computer displays?
    Yes. 23 & 17" on one G5. 20 & 17" on the 2nd G5. 17" Powerbook
Powerbook G4 17, G5 Dual 2.0, G5 Dual 2.0 Mac OS X (10.4.5) AJA Kona 2 on both G5's, Fibre Channel and SATA arrays in use.

  • Urgent: Final Cut Pro constantly crashes

I have never had this problem before.
I use a Canon HF G10 camcorder that records in AVCHD, and the files from my camcorder are imported just fine.
I used another camcorder, a Canon XA10, which also records in AVCHD, for a different angle.
Although the camera was supported in Final Cut X, the files were not imported nor detected as a video file.
So I got a media converter and then converted all of the files into .mov files. Although the file split in about 15 videos, the videos are just fine and play back perfectly both in finder and quicktime.
The problem starts from here. I tried importing the files several times into Final Cut Pro X, however the files do not show in the events browser.
When I try to drag and drop into the project window, the application crashes. I have tried reinstalling Final Cut Pro X and also deleting the files from the event browser and re-trying it, but it doesn't work.
Just to list my iMac's specs,
it's a Mid 2011 21.5 inch with 12GB of RAM. That should be enough for Final Cut to do its work.
The same symptoms also occur with these particular files in my 15 inch Retina MacBook Pro as well.
    Please help :'(

Do these files play in Quicktime Player? Post a screenshot of the Movie Inspector from Quicktime Player.
Also, is the second camera recognized - i.e. does it appear in the Cameras area of the Import window?
If so, does any content from that camera show up?
