Final Cut Pro HD on my imac G5

I just bought an iMac G5 (iSight) and I found out Final Cut Pro HD is not running. The system is asking for an AGP GRAPHICS CARD. Has anybody experienced this? Do I have to get an extra Graphics Card? Is not enought with the iMac hardware itself as it comes? Its gonna be an extra $300 for a new AGP card, and...is it gonna be attachable? I have no Idea. Tnxs for any information.

First off, the iMac G5 does not have an upgradeable graphics card, nor is one attachable. Only PowerMac G5s and Powerbooks with Cardbus/PCMCIA slots can have a different graphics card attached.
Secondly, according to:
http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/motion/specs.html
These are the recommended cards:
ATI Radeon X850 XT
ATI Radeon X800 XT
ATI Radeon X600 XT or X600 Pro
ATI Radeon 9800 XT or 9800 Pro
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
ATI Radeon 9600 XT or 9600 Pro
ATI Mobility Radeon 9700
ATI Mobility Radeon 9600
NVIDIA GeForce Quadro FX 4500
NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 and 6600 LE
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL or 6800 GT DDL
NVIDIA GeForce Go5200 or FX 5200 Ultra
According to:
http://www.apple.com/imacg5/specs.html
ATI Radeon X600 XT with 128MB DDR SDRAM
is included. So it would appear your graphics card is supported. The problem may be in the amount of physical RAM in your machine, or a need to repair permissions prior to installation. Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility allows you to repair permissions.
I doubt with a new machine that any preferences are corrupted this early in the game, though you may have a hardware issue preventing you from using the software. You may be able to detect hardware issues with the restore disk that came with your machine marked hardware test, bootable much the same as the Powerbook's hardware test volume is here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86287
Run the extended test if nothing else appears to work.
There is also the Final Cut Pro forum here which more people may have suggestions. You may also need an upgrade to the latest Final Cut HD to run on that operating system from http://www.apple.com/swupdates/

  • My Final Cut Pro X crashed my Imac

I was editing a project, I was working so hard until I dragged a audio file from Finder into the timeline and then my Imac crashed, there was nothing I could do, nothing was responding, so in my desesperation I did a pretty stupid thing, I turned off the Imac from the power supply and turned back on, when I opened Final Cut my project was corrupted and there was nothing I could do to recover it, how did it crashed and why? I am worried that with other projects the same could happen, any tips? PLEASE HELP

Are you using 10.0.9, or 10.1? Or some earlier version of FCP X? It would be helpful to note such things in your request for help. ::grin::
Do this while FCP X is not an active/ open application: for 10.0.9, there is a Backups folder in your Final Cut Projects folder containing the problematic Project. As I recall, you move the "CurrentVersion.fcpproject" document (this is the apparently damaged one) to a safe place, noting what it is and when and why you moved it. Then copy (not move) the ".fcpproject" document from the Backups folder (option drag the file to copy) to the Project folder, and rename it to "CurrentVersion.fcpproject".
In 10.1, there is a similar file, but it is in the Library package, I've not had the opportunity to try the renaming process, but would assume there is some way to do it.
No matter what you do, it would be best to have a backup of the folders before doing something with them that prevents you from going back to there previous state- control clicking and selecting "compress" is a good way to archive them, I usually name them by date and time, "2013_1222 2206 Solstice Project", for example.
    Best wishes.

  • Graphics card, Final Cut Pro on a new iMac

    Hi all,
I am planning to buy a iMac to edit some video. I've noticed you can choose between two graphics card,
NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 or ATI Radeon HD 4850. Which will be better for my case? Thanks in advance,
    Takeshi

Your answer is probably at http://www.barefeats.com/imac09.html
Especially as the 4850 is only $50 USD more.

  • Final Cut Pro 5 is Running Slow Any suggestions?

I have been using Final Cut Pro 5 with my Imac for some time now and last night i started it up and it was running very slow. I restarted my system to see if that would help but none of that helped.
Can you give me some hints on getting this thing running faster again?
    Thanks

  • Final cut pro 4

I cannot setup Final Cut Pro 4 on my iMac.
    OS X 10.3.9
CPU Power PC 500 MHZ G3
    256 MB SDRAM
What's the problem? Is this imac under the minimal requirements?
    Thanks
    Matteo

You need at least 500MB RAM...
Running FCP on a 500Mhz G3 iMac will be like swimming through syrup with a lead weight tied round both ankles... without a snorkle... in the dark... with a syrup-shark looming up from the depths...
    Very frustrating...

  • Final Cut Pro 4 on Intel

Does anyone know if I would be able to run an old version I have of Final Cut Pro 4 on an iMac which has Intel processors? Because I read about some of the old versions of Final Cut Studio that said it would only run on non-intel machines. Thanks.

While I haven't tried this, I assume it will not even let you install, because the recommended hardware environment cannot be located by the installer.
That said, it would be technically possible to run FCP 4 on an intel Mac. Because it's a PPC-only binary, however, it would require Rosetta to run. The resulting performance penalty would therefore very likely make it unusable.
I'd say it's not even worth trying. Upgrade to FCS 1 now or wait until FCS 2 is out...

  • Reinstall Final Cut Pro

I have bought Final Cut Pro X   download for Apple Store from  my Mac AirBook.  After download, the application was installed on my AirBook.  I have also bought  iMac and I need to re-install Final Cut on this iMac. Is it enough to move the Final Cut Pro.app to my iMac?  I have the receipt.
    Thanks,

All you have to do is re download FCP on the iMac...
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed  then click Install.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.

  • Exporting from Final Cut Pro back to DV tape

Is it possible to export a project done in Final Cut Pro back to mini DV tape? I need to do it in order to put in on a Windows machine at school. Or, is there a way to export it so I can import it into a Windows machine to use with Final Cut Pro? Thank you.
iMac Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.7)
iMac Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Is it possible to export a project done in Final Cut Pro back to mini DV tape? I need to do it in order to put in on a Windows machine at school.
    Yes,
    - hook up your camera to the computer via firewire
    - put the camera in VTR mode
    - push RECORD on the camera
    - play the timeline
    - STOP recording when the sequence is complete
    - your material is now on the tape.
Gotchas ...Make sure you have set the display and the audio to be sent out firewire to the external monitor (aka your camera).
For an alternative to the process described above, read the manual section on "Print to Tape".
Once at school, your windows machine needs the ability to capture video material.
Or, is there a way to export it so I can import it into a Windows machine to use with Final Cut Pro?
Final Cut Pro does not run on a Windows machine. I don't understand your question.
    good luck.

  • Does Final Cut Express work on the iMac G5?

I just tried to put Final Cut Pro on a G5 iMac, but the error came up that it is missing a AGP card. Apparently the new iMac have an upgraded card that doesnt work wih the older software.
Does anyone know if the Final Cut Express HD work on a G5 iMac?

For a permanent solution to stop the error message ever appearing again you can use this hack:-
    1. Right click (Control-click) on the FCE application icon (NOT the one in the dock) and select "Show Package Contents".
    2. Open the "Contents" folder and double click the "info .plist". It should open automatically in TextEdit - if it doesn't, choose TextEdit manually.
    3. Around 15 or so lines down you will see AGP. Delete it and put in PCI.
    4. Close the window and when asked if you want to save the changes, say yes.

  • Is there a way to download Final Cut Pro 7?

Is there a way to download Final Cut Pro 7 onto my imac if I have the serial # from a cd version?

Unfortunately not. The current version of FCP X is 10.0.8 and available for purchase (and download) from the Mac App Store. As far as I know, none of the pro applications were ever available via download. If you have the serial number, have you tried using the install disks (or is it a PPC app problem?).

  • IMac to TV for Final Cut Pro

I'm a newbie so forgive my ignorance.
I have a mid 2010 iMac and I would like to hook it to my HD insignia TV to view playback for Final Cut content.
I just need to know which method is the best (VGA, Mini DV, Hdmi, etc)
What cords &  adapters do I need?
I'm running OS X mountain Lion with Final Cut Pro X.

Oh. I also have a Cakewalk US-25 EX 24bit 96 kHz sound card too.

  • How can i get my Imac, running OSX 10.6.8 with a 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, how can i get Final Cut Pro 4 and DVD studio pro 2 to run on it?

I just bought an IMAC running OSX 10.6.8 (not sure what flavor that is). The processor is 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (Late 2006). When i run Final Cut Pro 4 on it I get the following error.
                        "Configuration error
This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing
                                    * AGP graphics Card"
If Final Cut Pro 4 doesn't run on my system, what version of Final Cut can I run on this as I am a filmmaker and really am comfortable with Final Cut Pro.
On the same note I also have DVD studio Pro 2 and that just quits without any message.
Hope any of you can be some help.
    Thank you,
    Doug

Thats my biggest confusion. Help Me...

It would depend on how old your IMac is, how mush memory you have, it it can be upgraded by OWC, etc. I have a 2006 Macbook Pro and would NOT put Mavericks on it or espeacially FCP 10.1.1 on it because the most memory it can have is 4 GB. You need at least 8 GB to work with Final Cut Pro 10.1.1. IMHO.
I would try to find a copy of Final Cut Express perhaps.
      Does this answer your question?

  • Final Cut Pro 10.1.1 and older iMac

Final Cut Pro 10.0.9 runs very well on my 2008 iMac & Snow Leopard.
Will there be any problems running FCP 10.1.1 & Mavericks on this computer?

I believe my computer is identical to yours and although the card is not supportd it still works OK
If yours does not work at all you can still use FCP X 10.0.9 which is almost identical to 10.1.1 except for the new Library system  .  .  .  .  I'm sure the old FCP X will do more than you will ever need.
If you are desperate to use the latest FCP X on Mavericks but can't afford an iMac, you could get a Mac Mini complete with third party 24" monitor for half the price of a 21.5" iMac.
The Mini may not be quite as fast as the latest iMacs but it will be a lot faster than your old one.
