Final Cut Pro no longer sees my RAID

I have a LaCie RAID plugged in to my Power Mac and up until now FCP has detected it. But now when I start the app, it doesn't see it. Yes, it's on and all cables are firmly plugged in. Any thoughts?
Thank you.

Check to make sure you have the latest drivers for the eSATA card.  Reinstalling them may help.

  • Final Cut Pro X long form videos

I've done a number of short videos on Final Cut Pro X using my Macbook Pro.Now a client wants me to send out 90minute seminars with a "watermark" logo. First one seems is very slow going. Do i need something like a Mac Pro with dual processors, etc.?

This seems to be just like my mac - a 2010 model. Unfortunately, it does not support 16GB, you have already maxed out the RAM.  You can and should avoid running other RAM-hungry applications (especially browsers) while you are editing or exporting in FCP X. Also, keep Activity Monitor open and look out for the memory section. If free RAM (in green) dwindles to a few tens of MB, your mac will slow down considerably. In that case, quit any applications you can, and quit and restart FCP X to free as much RAM as possible.
Using a fast external disk will also help. The internal drive is not adequate for such large projects and also may be filling up, which again will slow things down a lot.
(For this model the options are not many: FW800 (faster) or USB2 (not as fast); the best choice for me was an e-Sata disk, but that is only possible on the 17" model, via an express card - not an option if you have the 15" MBP)
So use RAM very wisely, and put your stuff in an as fast as possible external drive and you should be ok.
Not nearly as fast as on a Retina MBP, of course, but usable.

  • I bought Final Cut Pro 1 long time ago. When I move back to Vietnam, I have lost it. I still have the the Final Cut Pro 2 (update) and 3. I want to use Final cut 1 because I'm still using my old Mac os9 what can I do? Please help me.

Can I download it again? I lost my series number too. But I think my registered name are still in your record.

Only FCP X is downloadable. Everything up to Final Cut Studio requires install disks.  You might try calling  Apple, but the software you seek is over a decade old.

  • From final cut pro 3 to final cut pro 5

    Hello
I bought final cut pro 3 long time ago. May I buy the final cut pro 5 upgrade or must I buy the full software ?

You can read through the crossgrade offer here:
    http://www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade/
To go from FCP3 to FCP5 is $699US. You may want to check in with your local Apple store for the costs in Euros.
    Good luck.

  • How to export from Final Cut Pro after downloading Maverick

Final Cut Pro no longer exports after installing Maverick.  I get this: The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.Compressor.CompressorKit.ErrorDomain error -1.)  - have paid for Compressor and instaled it - but it makes no difference.

But how do I update Final Cut Pro 10.0.3?  Apple says all my updates for everything are fine.  It worked well before I installed Maverick, and now I can't get any of my short films out of it!  They won't copy over to IMovie so I have to start again and basically scrap Final Cut Pro - which seems a bit unfair just for updating to Maverick.  Makes the free download a bit pricey in the long term.

  • Minimac & Final Cut Pro

Sorry to go over old ground as I've seen similar posts but I just wanted some final reassurance before parting with £500. I'm planning to get my first ever mac (mini, 80gb, 1.42ghz, 512mb, superdrive) purely for video editing with final cut pro (nothing longer than 30 minute videos). I don't plan to use it for anything else. Will the mini be up for the job? I also have a firewire Lacie 160gb hard drive which I currently use with my PC. Will this be compatible with the mini and if so should I capture my video onto this?

First of all, wait until Apple officially announces the 1.5ghz mini's. They're already in circulation (my co-worker got one, which was labelled as a 1.42 Ghz) and they have more VRAM and a faster stock hard drive (5400rpm as opposed to 4200rpm)
Aside from that, capturing your video to your firewire Lacie drive (yes should be compatible) should take care of the timeline scrubbing problems that AndyO mentions. It's always a good idea to keep your video clips on a separate drive from your system drive (if possible.)
If you're just going to be doing Standard DV editing (not HD) 1 gig of RAM would is definitely nice, but I've actually never had huge complaints editing with 512 megs of RAM.

  • I am trying to install Final cut pro studio V1.0.1 (2005) on OS X lion. I get a message "You can't open the application final cut studio.mpkg because power pc application are no longer supported

I am trying to install Final cut pro 5 studio V1.0.1 (2005) on OS X lion. I get a message "You can't open the application final cut studio.mpkg because power pc application are no longer supported. My computer is New. Is their a link I can go to get tech support?

You won't find any help at tech support ... other than telling you the facts: Intel processor Macs require FCP 5.1 or higher.  FCP 5.0 and earlier were written for PowerPC processor Macs, long before Apple switched to using Intel processors.
And then there's the issue of the OS.  OS 7 will allow FCP 7 (and sometimes even FCP 6) to work OK, but versions earlier than that have spotty operation on Lion.
Here's a brief history of full FCP versions and recommended OS compatibility:
    * = requires PPC             ** = works with both PPC and Intel                          *** = require Intel
    FCP 1.0*       OS 9
    FCP 2.0*       OS 9
    FCP 3.0*       OS 9, OS 10.1, OS 10.2
    FCP 4.0*       OS 10.2, 10.3
    FCP 4.5*       OS 10.3
    FCP 5.0*       OS 10.3 (OS 10.4?)
    FCP 5.1**     OS 10.4, 10.5
    FCP 6.0**     OS 10.4, 10.5, 10.6 (OS 10.7?)
    FCP 7.0***    OS 10.6, OS 10.7
    FCP-X***       OS 10.6, OS 10.7
Essentially, you have a newer Intel processor Mac with a new OS and very old, incompatible software.   You might be able to find a used version of Final Cut Studio 3 on sites like ebay or craigslist as it is no longer offered by Apple as an upgrade.
Alternatively, you could purchase and download FCP-X, but it is an entirely different application, sharing virtually nothing with previous versions of FCP.

Your media is stored in Final Cut Events folder > "name of event"  > original media. The Final Cut Events folder is in your movies folder or at the root level of an external drive if you are using one to store your media. Simply open iMovie and under file menu select import movies. Navigate to the original media folder and import your clips to Imovie event library.

  • RAID block size for final cut pro x

Just got one of the new late 2012 27" iMacs and a 6 TB LaCie Thunderbolt drive. Can finally edit the video I took last spring. I'll be using Final Cut Pro X, and doing a lot of multicam stuff with 4 or 5 views and a separate audio track. The LaCie came formatted as a mirrored RAID. I'm going to change that to 0 (Striped RAID set), but am wondering what block size to set. The default is 32k, but I have read that this ought to be increased to the max (256k) for video editing. I have also read it should NOT be increased. And the posts I have read have all been at least 3 years old. So let me ask you all--what block size would you recommend for my situation?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Eddie...
This depends on what kind of source footage you are editing....
For compressed Video, Audio and Uncompressed audio 128k
I have only had BAD results with 256k. 64 is also weird. Whereas 32 is fine.
All my RAIDs have 128k for audio/video editing
you can go further if you editing Image Sequences.. but according to my own findings and I have been dealing with raid since years.... 128k does the job the best.
Rule of thumb.... The smaller the file sizes you are putting the RAID the smaller the block size. And vice versa.
I.e. You would cripple the raid performance if storing a database on it, having a block size of 256. In case of servers and OS 32k would be a good choice, perhaps even 16k if supported.

What is wrong? All the sudden.

    We need info, info, info!
    What version of FCP X?
Did you render? what are the project specs? do you use many compound clips? how much ram, hard drive space, how is the hard drive connected?
It looks like your mac can't keep up. Maybe the bottleneck is the hard drive, or something else.
Try exporting a master file and see if the video is ok.
Also, keep Activity Monitor open and see how much memory pressure you've got.
