Final Cut Pro Problem: Green Horizontal Lines

Ok first of all i am using Final Cut Pro 7 and i have an iMAC with 2.66 Ghz Intel Core i5 processor and 4 GB Memory although i store my Final Cut Pro files on my 1 TB external hard drive.
These green horizontal lines show up when i add and render a transition inbetween two clips. It happens consistently everytime i add a transition.
It really looks bad and if someone could tell me how to fix this it would be great. Thanks!!!!

details of source clip formats, sequence settings etc? specific transition settings? screen shots displaying issue?

  • Motion and Final Cut Pro Problem

I recently updated my computer and went with the new Quad-Core Mac. I had to reload the Final Cut Pro Studio software, and I've got a problem that is vexing me to no end.
I can import a Motion template (one that I've designed and even the Apple produced templates), but I try to view it in Viewer or when I place the Motion template on the timeline it won't work. Nothing visible on either the Viewer or the Canvas when I try to playback. I can right click and open the template in Motion and have the elements appear and work properly, but nada once it comes back into Final Cut.
    What gives?
    John

I find the roundtrip to Motion to be less than useful when there are a lot of layers involved. What works better for me is to export a movie using the same settings you're using in FCP and then import that. If the settings in Motion match the FCP settings, no rendering should be required. Unfortunately, you can't then use the "open in editor" function to fix anything... but must reopen the Motion project and export again.

  • Importing issues with Final Cut Pro X. Green flash and twitches while play back

Hello, I'm having some importing issues with Final Cut Pro X and I can't find any solution whatsoever. Perhaps my importing settings are wrong?
Anyways, I've done a lot of recordings on eye TV and HD PVR with some videos that are about 3 hours long. I exported them into H.264 files, which turns them into mpeg-4 files with AAC audio. Then I import them into final cut pro X and I notice it takes a long time for them to render the videos and I notice that there are some green screens and twitches while I play through the video.
Here is a screenshot of the green screen that I'm talking about:

Could it be my 2 video graphics card that is causing this kind of issues? Or is there any solution to fix this?
In the past, I've used iMovie 09 and it worked out perfectly. However, the new iMovie 11 is terrible because it automatically optimzie my 3 hour long videos into making the importing process to (144 hours long to import). Is there any way to get iMovie 09 back or am I stuck on dealing with this Final Cut Pro X issues?

  • Lightroom to Final Cut Pro Problem

When I compose a series of .jpg stills in Lightroom and then import them into Final Cut Pro 5.1.4, then apply cross-dissolve transitions, and then export to QuickTime, just before each transition begins there is a momentary "blink" to black (this appears in the QT output but does not occur when playing back the series within FCP). When I import the same files directly into FCP without going through Lightroom, the transitions run smoothly in the QT output. This suggests that there is something happening to these files in Lightroom -- does anyone know if this is a bug or is there a setting that I can change to eliminate the problem?
I am running Mac OS X 10.4.9 on a 3GHZ Mac Pro Quad, 6 GB, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT w/512MB, Apple Cinema 23" display. Thanks!

    Jan --
I haven't run into this. I've had no problem with Lr exports for FCP, either as TIFFs or JPEGs. I export from Lr to a Desktop folder with Resolution set at 72 ppi, and then import into FCP. Since I'm typically mixing stills with video, as opposed to building a slideshow, I don't apply transitions between all stills. But where transitions are applied, I've seen no flashes of black. The only thing I can think to ask is: are your FCP imports from both sources -- Lr and the other (where's it coming from?) -- at the same resolution, and is it 72 ppi? And are all cropped to the same dimensions? FCP can sometimes hiccup on too-big stills.

But when i export with QUICKTIME MOVIE it dosent work. Some clips are frozen and some are beeing misscoloured. None of them have interlace. Its the same clips that dosent work everytime i had export with QM. I have tried to replace these clips but the same thing is happening. I am also expriencing the same error. Tried every solution listed so far:
    1. Switch off background rendering. Trash render files. Don't render. Export.
    2. copying the project within Final Cut Pro into another project
    3. remove the following folder: Library > Application Support > ProApps > MIO > RADPlugins > XDCAMFormat.RADPlug
Nothing worked. I try to export to Vimeo, YouTube, and master. All error right at 9%

  • Final Cut Pro / problem with old Audio Units effects

    Hello,
Has anyone encountered this problem in Final Cut Pro:
I had a set of Waves plugins, but I installed a new set of them and deleted the old ones + preferences and anything connected to them.
When I start Final Cut, the program is asking "Where is Waves plug-ins folder?" and it is searching for my old waves folder...
I tried to look in the manual and in the program's pull down menus, but there's no answer offered..
I can get the program running though, if i click "cancel" for each of the waves plugins that used to be in the old folder.
    Any experiences? Help much appreciated,
    Eero

Archiving projects would certainly be a good idea. Unfortunately, I am editing a project which is the collaborative effort of a host of volunteers who made hundreds of shots spread across events that need to be kept available throughout the editing process. So, yes, we are pushing the application past reasonable limits. Still, the project is good fun.
As an experienced editor (Media100, FCP4-7, Premiere Pro), I would have been happier to have been able to continue along the FCP7 path. FCPX is not my cup of tea, apparently, even though, by now, I have become rather familiar with the application. FCP7 was quicker, more stable (yes) and gave me infinitely better control. Or at least a much better "sense of control" so as not to offend any supporters or fans of the new application. So that's just my personal opinion.
But I must admit that it is impressive to see how easy and enjoyable Apple has made it for even absolute beginners in video editing to put something decent together without much explanation or training. I have seen this with a few of the volunteers I am working with on this project. FCPX certainly has its merits, therefore, but you are absolutely right in your comment. We must try to keep our active (and actually mounted)  "Final Cut Projects" and "Final Cut Events" folders small, setting aside those which do not necessarily have to be available  in separate "parking" folders. For the next project (in general language, not FCPX jargon), I will bear this in mind myself. Cheers.

  • Final Cut Pro Problem playing and exporting

I am having problem playing and exporting in final cut pro. I made an animation in maya and used batch render to render a folder of images then imported the folder to final cut pro but it doesn’t play properly in the video window or even when I exported to quicktime. Do u know why?
Please give me your response asap.
    Thank you very much!

As the link that Russ posted describes, use quicktime player to open the image sequence and then do a save.  Bringing in an image sequence directly into fcp will cause extreme performance problems in my experience.
Describe the setting (pixel dimensions, color space, etc) of the original files.  One important question is whether there is an alpha channel associated with the files.  You may want to change the codec when you do the save in quicktime player to something more fcp friendly like one of the flavors of prores.

  • Help...Soundtrack Pro to Final Cut Pro Problem...Needs to Be resolved ASAP

I am doing the following steps below (Phone Notch in Soundtrack Pro (and it works in Soundtrack Pro) and for some reason after I hit Apply Preset and return to Final Cut Pro, the preset isn't working. Am I missing something? Is there something I have to save. Please help ASAP.
    Thanks.
    1. Click on the effects tab and select the EQ in the Category section
    2. Select the Channel EQ in the Effect section
    3. Double click on it and an advanced window will open
    4. On the bottom right side of the window click on the show presets button
    5. Click open the triangle next to the User Presets

  • Panasonic HMC150 and Final cut Pro Problems

I have been shooting with a Panasonic HMC150 HD camera for a few months right now. As far as I can tell - final cut Pro can't handle the footage well. I find that hard to believe so I assume that I am doing something wrong! I "Log & Transfer" the footage as Pro Res. I bring my footage into Final cut. I'll open a Sequence - Drag & Drop a clips into the timeline and let final Cut choose the Sequence settings for me. I generally shoot at the 720p setting. For the most part I can Scrub, use the razor blade tool, trim etc., but eventually Final Cut will just crash and disappear, or I'll be working and get the spinning Beach Ball. I also have installed Jon Chappell's Digital Rebellion tools - one of the tools is a "Crash Analyzer." Some of the errors are: "Graphics Card," "Final cut was overloaded" "Plugin" several different things.
My graphics card is: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT...Is it too small or something?
I generally output DV/NTSC 48kz. Alot of my stuff goes to the local cable company and they don't have HD for the local stuff. So, once I get my HD footage trimmed - I start dropping the clips into the DV/NTSC sequence and start trimming, moving, scrubbing again to get things to edit in perfectly. this is when the really bad crashing starts! Not only does it crash frequently - Final Cut doesn't always save properly either!
So, not sure how to fix this...Mare RAM? Different Graphics Card? Anyone?

    Great camera.
As far as I can tell - final cut Pro can't handle the footage well.
In general, incorrect. Probably something in your system or workflow. Let's figure it out.
I "Log & Transfer" the footage as Pro Res.
Good. Where is your Capture scratch set to?
let final Cut choose the Sequence settings for me.
Good. This assures that the sequence settings match your footage.
I generally shoot at the 720p setting.
    Should work just fine.
or I'll be working and get the spinning Beach Ball.
Generally a sign you need more RAM. How much is installed?
I also have installed Jon Chappell's Digital Rebellion tools - one of the tools is a "Crash Analyzer." Some of the errors are: "Graphics Card," "Final cut was overloaded" "Plugin" several different things.
Graphics card, yeah, you could stand to upgrade, but let's try other things first.
Plugin. Do you have any 3rd party plugins installed, or are they all the stock plugins that come with FCP?
So, once I get my HD footage trimmed - I start dropping the clips into the DV/NTSC sequence
Don't do this. Do your edit completely in the sequence that you've let FCP create for you. When you export, use Compressor to downconvert your final product to DV.

  • Final Cut Pro Problem - editing between different computers

    Hey guys,
I created a final cut project on another computer but no longer have access to clips. So every time I try to open the project the video it doesn't render the footage on the timeline and it asks for the location of the original clips. My question is, how can I edit the project without having access to the original clips?
    Thanks

If I understand you correctly, you have moved the project but not the media the project used?
Then the answer is - you can't.
You need to have the original media files (or complete copies of the original media files accesible to your new computer) in order to edit the project.

  • Can QT 7.3 Upgrade Be Making My Final Cut Pro Canvas Green?

Here is a problem that has suddenly, with no apparent cause, appeared. I have read through dozens of posts complaining of a similar problems and hundreds of posts that offer advice on how to fix it.
My system is FCP 5.0.4, running on a Power Mac G5 Quad, with 4 gigs of memory. I am editing HDV. I have plenty of unused room on my scratch disk.
    THE PROBLEM
Two days ago, when I started up the program after a hiatus of 2 months, I found that my canvas was green. It is green everywhere there isn’t a clip. It is green whether I start a brand new project or open an old project. The only thing that I can think of that has changed is that I installed the QT 7.3 upgrade.
In addition, I am suddenly getting dropped-frame error messages that advise me to change my RT setting from Unlimited to Safe. I have never gotten this message before. I have fast enough processors and enough memory to handle my sequences, which aren’t that complex.
I am also losing audio intermittently. My audio functions perfectly in other applications, so it is definitely an FCP problem.
    SOLUTIONS I HAVE ATTEMPTED
The first thing everyone says is to trash my preferences. I have done this, both with the FCPRescue program and manually. I have trashed the three files under the FCP Preferences folder as well as the one other file in the preferences folder, as indicated on the Larry Jordan web site. One time I did this, it seemed to fix the problem, but the next time I started up FCP, the problem was back.
Here is the sequence in which I did this: (1) I closed out of my project in FCP; (2) I quit FCP; (3) I trashed 4 preferences files; (4) I emptied the trash; (5) I re-started the computer; (6) I started up FCP; (7) I went in and reset my preferences; and (8) I opened my main project. Green canvas. Green canvas. Green canvas.
I have checked to see that the channel is set to RGB, not Alpha.
I have tried to make sure the background is set to black. It is, but remains green.
I have checked to make sure my scratch disk is set properly.
I have, in short, tried every solution suggested on a variety of forums. The problem persists.
    QUESTIONS
Does anyone have any idea what CAUSES this problem? IS IT POSSIBLE IT IS QT 7.3?
If I trash QT 7.3, will there be dire consequences?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  • Final cut pro problem

Hello I am a frequent fcp 7 user and recently when I tried to edit one of my films several problems occured.  For some reason I could not view my new project nor any of my older projects without severe lagging.  It would play but you would only hear the sound and see an image of where you had played it from.  Also when trying to render my reel a notification popped up and said "Error: out of memory".  Should I delete some older projects?  I then proceeded to try to render again and it said "Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card".  Can someone help me???

If these files come from your camera, use FCP's Log & Transfer function:
    Read this.
If you got the files from someone else as H.264, use Compressor (you already have it) or MPEG Streamclip.

  • Final Cut Pro X Green Screen Rendering Slow

Rending green screen keying in FCPX seems to get slower and slower. Anybody else experiencing this. I am editing a 11 minute video in 1080 using ProRes 422 media. Only half the clips are green screen and it is taking a long time to render. Long enough that I just leave my office for some time and come back an hour later.  Running all up to date software and have 32GB RAM and 1GB of Video RAM. Basically just three layers of video. The green screen and two parts of the plate/background. What gives?

    Fargo wrote:
...  my timeline is half orange (unrendered) and when I attempt to do any playback to see check things it will play audio at the proper pace, but video is basically choppy ..
uhm, well.. stuttering playback has a list of reasons
best-practice is to allow FCPX on import to convert anything into 'Optimized Media' - even on my under-powered system, complex projects run smoothly.
Second, when you use several 'streams' simultaneously, e.g. multi-cam, a fast 'delivery system' is essential.
Third, when you do not use optimized or proxies media, if your sources are  - for example - 1080/60p h.264 videos (aka as from any modern AVCHD device) your poor Mac has a lot do just to 'convert on the fly' for playback. Depends on codecs in use.
So, what I would give a try:
    • convert all media in use into Optimized - time-consuming process, but your Mac does it alone over night...
    • or, invest in hardware:
yes, these are just two tiny 2.5"-1TB-Toshiba hdd (and my brave MacMini); using the MacOs Disk Utility, 'bonded' as a Raid0, delivering in >200mbps. This is my 'working drive', for <100€; plus two other usb3 hdd: some videos are left on those 'mass drives' and not imported into working-drive, which is on the Raid; I found my own strategy where which of my videos have to be located in what format => meanwhile I do NOT optimize anymore, editing a 6-cam-multicam (with a weird mix of formats and codecs, shoestring budget here ). The time I save (= no conversion) on import, I spend later on export.. no prob in my workflow, which isn't time-critical at all = hobbyist.
so, first steps: Events to external drive, optimize media.-

The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.Compressor.CompressorKit.ErrorDomain error -1.)
I am no Einstein when it comes to computers. Can anyone please help? Thank you Yarders1

Can you render your project to a local folder on your computer?  If you cannot, try this:
File > Delete Project Render Files
Turn off FCP, start it up again.
Try to render again.  Works almost every time for me.
