Final Cut Pro project won't open

I can locate my project, but when I select it, the event opens and shows the beach ball forever. It is a project I had to set aside while finishing some others. I bought a new MacBook Pro and had to update to FCPX 10.1.1, and all my projects. Now the project jams when I select the event. Original media is there, the project is there, and the beach ball is there.

Hi TNGWB,
Welcome to the Support Communities!
A few questions come to mind as I review your comments.   You mentioned “It is a project I set aside.”  Then you “updated FCPX to 10.1.1 and all my projects.”  So, was this project updated with all of the others?  Or was it moved to a different location and has not been updated yet?     When you open FCPX, do you see the event called Updated Projects?   When you click on the Updated Projects Event, do you see this particular project in the Event Browser (it will have a black and grey strip along the top.)    Click on the link below for complete instructions including screen shots:

Hi i am having a major problem!
well for starters i must say that a few months ago my macbook crashed and i called apple care and my computer was repaired over the phone(a folder was corrupted)
I was told that my applications were saved and shall run like normal but that was not the case..

Not only is Final Cut Pro 5.0.1 incompatible with Intel Macs, it's also incompatible with Leopard. The reason it used to work was pure luck. When you run an outdated version of Final Cut Pro you live on borrowed time because any future operating system or QuickTime update can break it.
The solution is to purchase a newer version of Final Cut Pro that is compatible with your processor and operating system. As you have a prior version of Final Cut Studio you can upgrade for $299 (even less if you shop around).

  • My Final Cut Pro 7 won't open! Help!

    Hey!
So I've had FCP 7 for awhile now and it's been working perfectly!
But then a week ago I tried to open it and
it spends a couple of seconds starting up then comes up with,
' Unable to locate the following external devices:
    Apple FireWire NTSC (720 x 480)
Your system configuration may have changed, or your deck/ camera may be disconnected or tuned off.
Please check your connections and click 'Check Again', or click 'Continue' to set external device selection to None.'
    But I don't have a camera/device that is connected?
I've tried to click 'Check Again' but nothing happens...
and when I click 'Continue' this pops up:
    Non-Writable Scratch Disks
One or more of the scratch disks you have specified does not have read/write access.
To preserve the integrity of the data used by Final Cut Pro, it is necessary to ensure read/write access to the following:
    Macintosh HD/Users/haleighdoyle/Desktop/External Drive/Documents
And the only option is for me to reset my scratch disks. And then it pops up saying that:
One or more of your chosen scratch disks cannot be found. Please verify your current selection in the scratch disks preferences.
    And THEN this pops up...
PLEASE HELP ME! I'm not too sure what to do now.
    Thank you!

You are in the wrong forum.
You need to post this in the Final Cut Studio forum.

Just got a new computer that came loaded with Final Cut Pro 4, when I go to open it I get a "Configuration Error" saying, this software requires certain hardware or software which is missing.

It seems like I have enough to run Final Cut Pro 4, is my computer set up wrong?
    Thanks

If you got it off eBay "loaded with Final Cut Pro 4", unless they included the original install discs and serial numbers, you don't own FCP...

  • Help Final Cut Pro 5 Won't Open

It seems to just quit when it gets to loading au plugins. It did this under 5.0 so i updated to 5.0.3 and same thing. Do i need to trash my au plugins could they be corrupt. I also tried a reinstall. It did nothing. I trashed all the plists and preferences. could i be missing anything?

Went in manually and did the following:
In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences (the tilde (~) represents your Home folder.)
Remove the "com.apple.finalcutpro.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
Remove the "Final Cut Pro User Data" folder from the Preferences folder.
    BAM!!
It worked. Eye hope it works for ewe.

  • My final cut pro 7 won't open any more

it jumps up and down on the bar at the bottom then a window pops up saying that it had to close unexpectedly.  All the other features work(Compressor, dvd pro, cinema, soundtrack) and i would love to have the program back.

You should probably ask about this in the Final Cut Studio forum not in the Final Cut Pro X forum.

  • Final Cut Pro X won't open.

So here's what happened. I was working on my project from my 2tb hard drive, and all of a sudden, FCPX crashes, and completely freezes my computer. Can't eject my drive, can't do anything. So I'm forced to shut down my computer. When I powered back up, I checked my drive, and all the files seem to still be safe. However, when I go to open FCPX, I get this scary warning sign saying the project/drive may have been corrupted, and then just quits on me. When I check the drive again, files still safe. I try to reopen FCPX and the icon just bounces for a while, and then stops and doesn't open, like nothing even happened. Has anyone run into this problem/have any suggestions, or ideas?? I'm freaking out because this literally came out of nowhere.

The first thing you do after the application crashes is trash your prefs which undoubtably have been corrupted. You should do this before you try to reopen the application.
Hide your events and projects (Event Manager X is handy for this). Trash your prefs (Digital Rebellion's Preference Manager is best for this). Launch the app see if it runs.
Replace the currentversion events and projects with their backups and see if the app will run.
Please give complete specs of your computer system and perhaps what you were doing when the crash occurred.

  • Motion 3.02 - cannot open any final cut pro projects

Please help. Motion won't open any Final Cut Pro projects, and I've been training to learn Motion, I'm stuck on this lesson because I can't open a FCP project. All FCP projects are greyed out when I go to Open in Motion, and even if I right click the project file and Open With and force Motion to, it cannot open the file. I can "Send To > Motion" in FCP and that works, but it's not the same.
I have FCP 6.06, both are part of Final Cut Studio 2 Academic version. Not that my FCP version matters, because the CD provided in my Motion 3 training book gave me a (probably) FCP 6.0 project file, even when I updated it, it won't work. Not even my old old FCP files from previous versions can open with Motion.
    Much thanks.

But it can be done the other way, perhaps you reads about that. Motion files can be imported into FCP and used just like regular clips.

  • How to save Final Cut Pro project to an ftp server to then open on a different computer

Hello, I work for a graphic design firm that also does video production for businesses. We are using Final Cut Pro X in our office which has an FTP server connected to all office computers.
What we want is to be able to have on employee start a project in Final Cut Pro X, save it to the server; then have another employee open up the same project and continue working from a different computer.
Right now, we have a lot of our Final Cut files saved to the server, and the files will show up in the server on the other employee's machine. BUT, we scroll in the server to the file for the Final Cut Pro project on the other computer, and the file is grayed out, unable to be opened on the new computer.
I've tried right clicking and choosing "open with Final Cut" and Final Cut does then open, but right before it opens the project within Final Cut, a message comes up saying "The document could not be opened. Open documents from within Final Cut Pro," which of course, I see no way to do that from within Final Cut Pro.
I've also called Apple Care, they reminded me that we can't have one project open on two computers at the same time, and that's fine. We are willing to close the project on computer one to then open on computer two.
If you have an answer let me know. We don't want to have to load onto an external hard drive to then load onto the other machine, especially since we have a server ready to go.
    Thanks for your help.

You can share projects via the ftp server, but you need to:
    1) Have all the media in identical events on each editor's machine;
    2) Set up the project  and share the entire folder for that project first;
    3) Afterwards, you can share just the project file itself
You CANNOT work directly on projects and events stored in the ftp server.
See Steve Martin explain how to do all this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hu-ga7fxKh8

I have a project that crashed on me when I was about to finish it. When I try to reopen Final Cut Pro it wouldn't open until I took the project out of the Final Cut Project folder. Can somebody tell me if this is a problem that has a solution? I cannot go back to the project at all.

If you are using 10.0.3 or above Apple added a backups folder that for a little extra protection in cases like this. If you quite FCPX go to your Final Cut Pro Projects folder. Find the folder that has the project in question. If it has a backups folder there should be a file with a date stamp and .fcpproject extention, that is your back-up. Just move the back-up from that folder one folder up to the place where you deleted CurrentVersion.fcpproject from.  When I have had to do this I haven't renamed the backup but some people to recomend that you rename it to CurrentVersion.fcpproject and it seems to work both ways. Ofcourse it wont work if there is already a CurrenVersion file there you will need to delete that one first.
If you don't have the backups folder or there is nothing in it I am not sure if there is anything that can be done.

  • Open Final Cut Pro project in Logic Pro for audio editing

I want to open a Final Cut Pro project i'm working on into Logic Pro without having to export my large FCP projects to video all the time. Is there any way of doing this?

Thanks for replying to my question, I did mean Logic Pro but I'm relatively new to these programs. What's the difference with Soundtrack Pro and Logic Pro exactly? If I understood you correctly, Logic Pro would be the program I need since I need to create audio from scratch. Just to be more clear again, I want to see my video while composing audio at the same time but without having to export my video all the time since it takes long, being a big file. Thanks again for the reply.

  • Can't Update Old Final Cut Pro Projects

I use Final Cut Pro for work and just recently updated. I didn't realize that I needed to have all my projects in my "Final Cut Pro Projects" file while updating. I had a lot of my projects in a "Final Cut Pro Projects-Not In Use" file when I updated my Final Cut Pro and now those projects will not update. I didn't have a "Final Cut Pro Projects" file after updating so I created a new one under "Movies" in my Finder and added all the projects to that and Final Cut Pro still won't update them. What am I doing wrong?
Also, now that I've updated the projects are exporting as .MP4s and my boss wants them as .MOVs again. Is there a way I can change them to that?

I have been trying to add a screen shot to this reply for the past ten minutes but I keep getting "An error occurred while trying to submit your post. Please try again" So I will try to explain it to you.
I click the arow on the bottom right hand corner. Then click "Master File..."
    My settings are:
    Format: Computer
    Video codec: H.264 Better Quality
    Resolution: 1920 x 1080
Audio file format: QuickTime Movie (AAC)
    (don't click Include chapter markers)
    Open with: QuicTime Player (default)
On the bottom it reads left to right:
    1920 x 1080 | 23.98 fbs   Stereo (L R) | 48 kHz  00:00:04:02   MPEG-4 movie 10.4 MB est.
Then I click "Next..." and save it to my Desktop and click "Save"
I hope that makes sence! Sorry the screen shots didn't work!

  • Converting a Final Cut Pro project into one Final Cut Express HD can read..

Is there any way I can convert a final cut pro project into something i can open in an earlier version of final cut, namely final cut express HD?

    Tim,
Unfortunately you can not go from FCP to FCExpress. You can go backwards from say FCP7 to FCP6 or FCP 5 using XML's. The XML version depends on which FCP you have.

How do you import final cut pro projects into imovie?
(like you create a project in final cut but i want to save it, and import it into imovie..

    Hi -
Mr. Ross is right, there is no direct way to export your project with all it's elements into iMovie.
If, on the other hand, you have a completed sequence in FCP that you want to export as a finished element, then import into iMovie for you to re-edit or apply titles, music, etc. you would:
    In FCP:
Click on the Sequence Icon you want to export in your browser.
Go to the menu File > Export > Quicktime Movie. Give your movie a name a navigate to where you want it stored. Make sure you choose Settings: Current Settings and have the Make Movie Self Contained checked. Click Save.
    Close FCP and open iMovie.
    In iMovie:
Go to the menu File > Import > Movies and navigate to the movie you just exported from FCP. Choose if you want your movie imported in it's original size, etc.
Click Import. Your movie will be imported into iMovie.
Note that using this method only gives you only the elements that made up your FCP sequence, so this may not give you the flexibility you need.
    Hope this helps.

  • Sharing and EDITing Final Cut Pro Projects...

I'm trying to Share Final Cut Pro Projects between separate User Accounts. The originator of the Project saves to the Shared Folder, which should allow others to not only read, but Edit the files. Unfortunatley, the Scratch Files (video) within the Project always looses it's connection when the Second User connects and trys to edit the Project.
Is their an easy way to Share the Projects so that Others can both Read and Save Changes? Does the Second User always have to rename the file to get it to save back to the Shared Folder?
    Thanks for any Help! !

Hello and welcome to the forum.
It's always been my understanding that you could open a project created by FCE in FCP, but not the reverse. I fear you may be out of luck.
