Final Cut Pro Registration from iMac to Powerbook

Hey folks,
Another probably stupid question, but again I come to thee for answers....!
I've got an iMac which I've edited all my work on Final Cut version 5 and have recently purchased a Powerbook where basically I installed FCP from the original disks I used to install it on the iMac.
I registered FCP originally on the iMac, but have not registered it on the Powerbook as I thought this could cause conflicts having the two machines running on the same version.
I'm now planning to sell my iMac to upgrade to a Power Mac. So meantime until I sell all my belongings to purchase one, I would like the Powerbook to be the main machine registered with FCP.
I basically want to clear the iMac completely for sale, so how do I go about having the registered version of FCP on my Powerbook? Should I take off FCP on the Powerbook, then use the Migration Assistant to take over FCP from the iMac? Ive never done this before but have seen on the forums that this is the way to do it via firewire. I'm just wondering though if this causes problems as FCP is obviously registered to the iMac?
Or do I have to call Apple and get them to register FCP with the Powerbook too?
Does any of that make any sense to anyone??? If anyone can follow that riddle, I would be extremely grateful for feedback.
Thanks,
Matty

I have purchased Final Cut Pro for my imac and now want to put it onto my macbook air so I can use it when away from my desk. How can I do this

I took away my backup disk with me so just took it from there excellent. I am back home at present working on my imac. When I go to use my macbook air on these projects (when away on boat) is it easiest to simply copy the Project and Events folders in total from my imac onto the other machine and do the same upon my return in reverse? I don't use icloud

  • Command to Export project as Final Cut Pro XML from jsx script

    Hi All,
Can somebody get me the command to export the project as final cut pro xml from jsx script.
    I was using the extension builder script earlier for cs6 panel development, so we were using pjct.exportFinalCutProXML("pathname");
Now I am working for panel in Premiere CC so working on HTML 5 panel and qe dom scripting(.jsx).
In some jsx examples i got there is script to export sequence as final cut pro xml but cannot get the code for project export.
    project.activeSequence.exportAsFinalCutProXML(entire_out_path);
Also please let me know if there are any kind of reference available about all the functions and properties in the pe dom scripting for premiere pro cc.
I am using premiere pro cc 7.1, windows 7, Eclipse Kepler.
    Thanks in advance,
    Anoop NR

When you reimport the exported project XML to FCP, do you get the full project or just the single bin/sequence? If you get the full project then it sounds like you need Premiere help, not FCP help ... have you tried asking on the Adobe forums? If you only get the single bin/sequence then it seems you might have inadvertently selected those prior to creating the project export. Try making sure that your FCP Browser window is active and that you have not selected anything within that window prior to using the File > Export > XML command. If that still causes issue then you might try using an earlier FCP XML version.
    Hope it helps

  • I purchased final cut pro X from app store, but it doesnt allow me to update to latest version...

I purchased Final cut pro X from app store, but when I try to upgrade the software I get a message saying that it was not purchased thru app store. Can anybody help me please?

    Hi Pablo..
Make sure you are using the same Apple ID and password you used to originally purchase Final Cut X.
If you are running Lion v10.7 as your profile suggests, installing the OS X Lion Update 10.7.3 (Client Combo) will reinstall the App Store for you which may help.
Restart your Mac after the combo is installed and try to update the software.

  • Animation. How do I import still images in final cut pro x (from dragon frame) duration 3 frames pr. image?

Animation. How do I import still images in final cut pro x (from dragon frame) duration 3 frames pr. image? We have allready tried to set stillimages duration in preferences to 0,08 sek, but it does not have any effect!

You can drag your images to the timeline, select all, ctrl-d and set the duration to 3 frames by typing 3 and enter.
Or you can use Quicktime 7 to "open image sequence", select the desired duration, export your animation to quicktime and import that into FCP X for further editing.

  • Final Cut Pro on a 12 inch Powerbook?

I just got my 1.5 12 inch powerbook with a super drive.
I'm having fun with imove but thinking about giving Final Cut Pro or express a try. Does the powerbook have the umph to run them well?
I been thinking about swapping out for a gig of ram also if that would help.
    P.S.
I don't realy get frustrated with longer render times.

I have the same notebook and run FCP 5 adequately on the installed 512 RAM. But, like you, I am swapping the 256 stick for 1GB this weekend because I encounter the occasional dropped frame. Most of the editing I do has involved short films less than 5 minutes in length. Dropping a frame is frustrating, but does not mean I can't edit a simple movie fairly quickly. If you plan to edit home movies maybe closer to 30 minutes in length, I highly recommend buying the 1GB stick. FCP will run better, and so will most everything else on your PowerBook. The prices are slowly dropping, with an average online price of 200-pin DDR333 (PC 2700) RAM for around $160. You can of course buy it from the Apple Store for more than double that.
If you're only planning on editing the occasional home movie, FC Express might be the better solution than FCP 5. It offers less features, sure. But depending on how much you plan to edit video, you may not need everything FCP 5 offers. I've been editing video and making short films for three years, and I still don't use, let alone know, every function of FCP. You should be able to check out the programs at the Apple Store to compare the two. If not, you may be able to try them at a university campus computer lab.

  • Does Final Cut Pro Studio work on old powerbook?

I'm planning to buy the Final Cut Pro Studio package, but before I want to be sure that it will work fine on my PowerBook.
I have enough Processor (G4 1Ghz) and RAM (1Gb) as apple suggest, but I'm worried about the supported graphics cards listed on the recommendation. My GeForce4 MX graphics cards is not mentioned. and of course I have to upgrade to OS 10.4.x... this is not a problem.
In this moment, from the Final Cut Pro Studio package, I only need to use FCP, DVDSP and Compressor. I have to import about 1 hour SD movie, other short clip, convert to AC3 and Mpeg2 and use DVD Pro to authoring a DVD. I don't need to use a lot of graphic fx with motion or capture in HD format.
Thank you for your suggestion and recommendation!
I hope to be more active in this forum soon!

    PowerBook G4 1Ghz, 1G ram   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Video Card GeForce4 MX

It worked well enough (but slowly) on mine. But you probably won't be able to install Motion because of your graphics card.

  • Final Cut Pro X on iMac G5

Hi, I just downloaded Final Cut Pro X for my dual core intel iMac G5.
It downloaded fine but when opening it said my graphics card wasn't capable.
Can you suggest how I could fix this or if it is possible to downgrade to a different version of FCP X.
If you can suggest where will I be able to download it from?
    Thanks for the help.

Altering any of the hardware on an iMac is extremely difficult and should only be tackled by a skilled technician.
The cost of such changes would be very high (assuming it's possible) and you would still end up with an old computer that was barely capable of using FCP X.
Much better would be to put the money towards a new, more powerful and fully guaranteed machine.
I don't know how experienced you are in editing but it is quite possible that the latest iMovie (an excellent app which is like a simplified FCP X), would do everything you want and would work perfectly on your present computer.

  • Installing Final Cut Pro 2 on a 12" Powerbook

I recently upgraded from a Pismo (G4 550mhz Upgrade) to a 12" 1.33mhz Powerbook. I had been using Final Cut Pro 2 with the 3 Upgrade on the Pismo but now I cannot install the original Final Cut 2 on my 12" powerbook because it was OS 9 native. Is there a work around so that I do not have to buy Final Cut Pro again?

Thank you for your input, guys...
Classic on the PowerBook does not support FCP 2's control panels so it can never be started and therefore never registered and never upgraded.
Installing it on the G3, upgrading and moving it brings us a user System ID missing or incorrect error and won't start.
I looked at the upgrade to Studio and it requires OS 10.4 or higher and I am running 3.9 and $699 is more than I am wanting to spend right now.

  • Help. What format is best to export to for Final Cut Pro editing from PPCS5?

Ok. So I really have no experience with Final Cut. After reading online for an hour about what formats to use, I was still left with no clear answer and confused. Here's my issue: I have 1080i 60i .tod files from my JVC ready to be batch exported from CS5 Encoder, I need a format that will be read and able to be edited on Final Cut Pro without issue.
Could someone with Final Cut experience please chime in:
    What should I use exactly?
    Greatly appreciated,
    Nick

Are you using Premiere on the same Mac that FCP is on? If so, your best format choice is QuickTime and codec choice would be ProRes422. If, however, you're on a different Mac or on a PC instead, I'd suggest QuickTime with the freely available, cross-platform Avid codecs. You'd probably want to use DNxHD, in that case.
The Avid codecs are great because, well, they're free, but more importantly, they're available for both decoding AND encoding on Mac and PC. ProRes, on the other hand, only has an encoding component for Mac, and it has to have FCP installed on it.
