  • Final Cut Pro Settings For AVCHD Canon HFS100

    Hi friends,
I am new to Final cut pro and digital video. I just purchased a Canon HFS 100 and am shooting in 30p and am going to be editing on FCP 6.0.1. From Easy Setup on FCP I have changed the FORMAT to HD, RATE to 29.97 and USE to DVCPRO HD -1080p30. Will this be the most favorable settings if I want to make high quality HD videos for the web. Or should I leave it on FCP Easy Setup default which is FORMAT: all formats, RATE: all rates and USE: Custom Setup.
    Thanks.

    Hi Khorsani,
    welcome to the arena.
Your version of FCP was the [first one|http://www.apple.com/support/releasenotes/en/FinalCut_Pro_6.0_rn/index.html#appleref%3Adoc%3Auid%3ATempBookID-ReplacedWhenAssociatingWithMessierRevision-CH1-SW59 ] to offer some support for AVCHD.
You want to use Log&Transfer (FCP main menu>File or ShiftCommand8)to convert your footage to ProRes or AIC, which are editable formats that FCP likes.

Also [Read this|http://documentation.apple.com/en/finalcutpro/professionalformatsandworkfl ows/index.html#chapter=6%26section=2%26tasks=true] for more general info.
Connect your camera to your machine, then try to Log&Transfer.
Please note that AVCHD support was improved with following FCP 6.0.x versions so you may want to update your current version if something does not work.
To update just click on the Blue Apple of the OS top menu and look for software updates.

10.0.8 is no longer available, except in the trial version. The current sale version is 10.0.9. Apple has never sold older versions of their software, only the current version. That's not going to change in the near future.

  • Final Cut Pro X .mts, h.264, ProRes, Clipwrap 2...

    Hi guys, Newbie here!
Tried serching but cant really nail down what im looking for.
I'm trying to figure out editing (Panasonic Sd700) AVCHD 1080 60p, .mts files with Final Cut Pro X. I am aware that the files need converting etc etc, but I want to know what the best way is to keep as much quality as possible. I'm after some workflow advice really.
Atm i'm thinking, take .mts files from SD card, rewrap to .mov (using Clipwrap 2), do quick fix edits and organize (due to h.264 being a hard to edit??), then convert to ProRes 422 or AIC for full edit and effects etc.  Will there be any extra quality loss from going .mts - h.264 - ProRes/AIC? or is it the same as .mts - ProRes/AIC? How bad is trying to edit h.264 in the new 64bit Final Cut X? Is it even worth think about trying to fully edit in that format?
Sorry if I sound dumb, but this is all theory for me, I have no working knowlege of any of it - yet to purchase Final Cut Pro X or Clipwrap 2..
    Thanks for any help
    Rich

I've got a similar workflow issue. I don't want to keep around the AVCHD formated files becauase I can't organize it. I don't want to keep around the pro-res versions of the files because they're too big. So I'm using Clipwrap to convert the AVCHD files to mov. Final Cut Pro seems to handle them directly ok. However, it doesn't handle 720 60p files at all. They play back as all white frames. Quicktime plays them back, but it's very flakey. Sometimes they only play back as black. So it appears that the quicktime libraries don't handle these h264 mov files very reliably. If anyone has a workflow that keeps original quality without huge file sizes, I'd love to hear it.

  • Title Font Size in Final Cut Pro 6 for exhibition on movie theater sized screen

When editing a documentary and creating title cards (that play as part of the movie - text center of screen on black b.g.), lower thirds identifying speakers, and end credits (both single card and scrolling) are there some standard fonts and font sizes people use so the end result will not look too large when projected on a movie screen?
The titles are all from Final Cut Pro (a few from the Boris plug-in for FCP6) and there are no titles that move or that are created in Motion.
I will be able to make additional edits with the fonts sized for tv, streaming, DVD distribution etc. if I'm lucky enough to end up needing those as well.
    Thanks!

If the titling is properly composed for the frame size, it will look correct when projected. That is, if it looks font is legible and in decent proportion in your 1080 timeline, it's not important whether the display is 30 inches or 45 feet; the proportion will not change.
In terms of font selection, medium or bold sans-serif fonts work well on all screens.  "Plain" fonts like Helvetica, Ariel, or Lucinda tend to work better than the more stylized fonts, but if style is part oif your message, be my guest...
    hope this helps

  • Final Cut Pro X for amateurs?

I am an amateur. I have done some basic editing with windows movie maker and similar but recently became a mac owner. I don't want to waste 300 plus dollars on something that I will find frustrating and unusable. So I guess my question is this; How easy is it for an amateur to use? I have just purchased a "GoPro HD Hero 2" and I don't want what I can do to be limited by my editing software but, I also don't want to be pulling my hair out because I wasted $300 plus dollars on something to complex for me to work out. Please help. Do I buy it or not?

Well, you might like and try iMovie first, (should already be installed on your Mac)...
By far not as complex as FCP X, but it has certain similarities...
(some people even call FCP X iMovie on steroids... :-)
I changed over from iMovie to Final Cut Express a few years ago, highly enjoyed
the learning curve and the possibilities it provided...
Recently I changed to Final Cut Pro X, highly enjoyed the challenge to learn something new, after a few days everything was familiar again, and I never looked back...
This software is just absolutely amazing...
In combination with Motion 5, this package is nearly unbelievable...
Even FCP X is fairly sophisticated, and Motion 5 one can call indeed very complex.
I can only highly recommend both of them...
Watch a few of the introduction movies and in no time you’re ready to go...

  • Final Cut Pro 4 for Intel Mac

I have FCP 4.0 on an older Mac. I recently purchased a new intel Mac Pro. I'm trying to install FCP 4.0 on my new intel Mac Pro but it will not install. I get an error message about not being compatible with intel. Does anyone know if there is an upload to correct this problem? I don't have the extra money to buy the software again.

According to the Apple website: [http://store.apple.com/AppleStore/WebObjects/BizCustom?qprm=78313&productLearn More=MA886Z/A]
    Upgrade Eligibility
The upgrade version requires a valid serial number from a commercial version of
Final Cut Studio, Production Suite, or Final Cut Pro 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. Academic
and not-for-resale versions are not eligible for this upgrade.
    Elsewhere on the page:
    Buy New $1,299.00
Upgrade from Final Cut Studio* $499.00
Upgrade from Final Cut Pro or Production Suite* $699.00
Not bad, considering what you get in FCS: DVD studio Pro, Motion, Soundtrack Pro, Color etc...
If money is really tight, and all you want to do is edit, look into Final Cut Express HD @ $199 - includes Livetype and supports FXPlug 3rd party plugins, but that's about all (unless AVCHD means anything to you).
You can always use iDVD for your DVDs.

  • Is it usefull to buy Final Cut Pro X for making music video's or not?

Right now I'm using iMovie 11. I can put the audio an the video togheter and stuff but thats kinda it... So if I wan't to use more effects and stuff should I buy this?

I think FCPX is very good for short-form work like music videos, and definitely a big upgrade to iMovie. Additionally, the interface is similar so you'd have less of a learning curve.
There's a ton of hidden power though, and you probably would need to follow some tutorials and/or read instructional material in order to really be able to use the software efficiently, and understand what it has to offer. Many people have given high praise to Ripple Training; there's also some free training available at: http://www.izzyvideo.com/final-cut-pro-x-tutorial/ that can get your feet wet, so to speak. And I know Mr. Wolsky is working on a book that would be great to have, once it comes out.
At the moment, there are still a bunch of bugs that need to be ironed out, which you can read about on this forum. If you are willing to deal with a beta-quality product that has lots of potential, I'd say go for it. The most important thing to remember is to have a way of backing up your projects so that in the event you are hit with the worst of the bugs, you can still recover work.

  • Getting error message in Final Cut Pro X for frame 13142 when sharing

I am sharing a project to Master File and I get an error message: error occured when creating frame 13142.  How can I find that frame?

I had frame generation error last nigtht trying to make master file  on a short 5 mintue simple video I built.
It said error was on frame 6797.
I seach for soluitons and nothing seem to help.
I tried copying project contents to new project and that still failed with frame error 6797.
I then reviewed that frame and it was the one time in project I used any special affects for movement of image, Ken Burns and  Key frame transform affects on a freeze frame image.
I createa new third project copied contents in and remove the freeze frame image.  added freeze frame image back into project and only did Ken Burnes affect without key frame movement.
i was then able to complete geneeation and share project.
So if you get a frame generation error check that frame and see what special affects your using.  There maybe a bug in FInal Cut Pro X when you mix and match affects on one object in a project.
hope this helps someone... I was stuck for several hours on this last night.

  • HT1531 does final cut pro works for my mac book pro 4 gb ram i5 processors

why am not able to support power pc applications in mac

Babowa: Here is a recent post I made on this subject (responding to the oft mentioned claim on this forum that "installing Rosetta into Lion" would allow FCPS to be installed).
I would love it, if the OP (or you, perhaps, if you do not mind goting through the process again) could confirm the "Terminal Instruction"installation method:
It never made sense to me that (a) one could install Rosetta into Lion and get any results at all, let alone get an installer written in PPC code to run; or (b) if installing Rosetta into Lion worked for an installer written in PPC code, then why wouldn't an application written in PPC code work also?
    And the answer is...
Anytime an operating system is updated, there is a chance that some of your software will no longer function 100% correctly, until the publisher releases an update of that software for the newly updated operating system.  And that is what is going on here...
The Final Cut Pro installer is NOT written in PowerPC code!  There is some minor instruction in the installer that makes a call to the operating system in Lion, that Lion is incorrectly interpreting as being PPC code and hence giving the Dialog Box that says that it cannot run a PowerPC program.
This minor instruction is attempting to execute the following instruction in Terminal:
    $ sudo installer -package /Volumes/Final\ Cut\ Studio/Installer/FinalCutStudio.mpkg -target /
If you execute this instruction in Terminal sans Rosetta, the program will install perfectly!
Somehow, the "installation of Rosetta" into Lion, and perhaps Mountain Lion interferes just enough between the program and the operating system, to allow the program to make this call to Terminal and install the program.  Since this instruction will work in Terminal without Rosetta installed, it obviously has nothing to do with PowerPC code or Rosetta.
So the best advice would appear to be to use this instruction in Terminal and wait while the installation program completes all of its tasks with the concluding statement:
    installer: The install was successful.
This method avoids any pitfalls that may occur by installing Rosetta, which has no place in Lion or Mountain Lion and may be the cause of future problems!
Since I do not have Final Cut Pro, I cannot confirm this, but maybe I can borrow a copy somewhere soon...

  • Convert AVID files to Final Cut Pro X for editing

Convert AVID Bin to Final Cut Pro with Media
What is the way to convert AVID to FCPX so I can continue editing on FCPX?

Can you be more specific  FCP can create optimized footage in app after import for editing if that is what you need. If you need to literally covert it than running it through compressor should do the trick. Or you could download the avid codecs for your mac and maintain your original footage. http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Download/en392959?popup=true

  • Aperture or Final Cut Pro X for Video Org

I don't really see a reason to keep importing (linking) videos into Aperture at this point, considering the robust meta data capabilities of Final Cut Pro X.  Other than having all video and photos in one place (Aperture database), does anyone have a reason?
    Thanks for your thoughts.
    Angelo

    Thanks Shawn,
I'm switching to organizing all videos in FPCX - the keyword and Event options (smart albums) are pretty powerful and it's much easier to skim video.  With the direct browsing of Aperture projects in FCPX I will have quick access stills for when combing both in a video.  It would be nice to only have to deal with one piece of software when cataloging files from a HDSLR, but Aperture just isn't up to the task for video.
