Final Cut Pro size queries help please!

Ok, so in the tech specs it states that 4GB is required to install FCP but it the says 55GB for contents files??
What are these contents files, i know they are for the different parts of the suite but what do the contain and are they essential ?

The content files are loops/sound effects for Soundtrack Pro (about 22 GB worth), menu elements (e.g. button images, backgrounds) for the template menus that ship with DVDSP (about 4 GB worth) and different stuff for Motion (15 GB worth)
If you're working on a machine (say a laptop) that doesn't have much hard drive space to spare, the content does not have to be installed (the programs will run without content), but it's nice to have them handy on an external drive that you can plug in as needed. When installing, you can set the installer to place the content on a different drive.
And, in case it matters, the total needed for a 'complete' install is actually 46 GB (not 55). 4 GB for the actual programs and about 42 for the content.

Simply drop the effect onto the appropriate audio track. Set the frequency for the hum frequency (50Hz or 60Hz depending on your power supply). Include whichever harmonics you think might be present eg. 100, 150, 200Hz.
Note that I have generally had more success by using Soundtrack Pro's noise removal tool.

Viewer not playing video in Final Cut Pro!! HELP !!!!!!

I am on final cut pro version 10.0, and when I imported a clip and put it into the timeline, as the video plays, the viewer has a black screen! I can hear the audio as the video plays but the viewer is not showing the video.

Sounds like you haven't downloaded the codecs for that video. Try this.
If you bought FCPX from Apple, you should update from the App Store. Otherwise, no reason to be running 3 year old software.

I am a beginner at Final Cut Pro. I have mpeg-2 video footage that I am trying to import the footage into Final cut, but can't. I understand I need to convert the file format. I am unfamiliar with how to go about the converding file formats and the codec what is the best way to go about converting the file format so I can edit it on Final cut pro?

Where did the files originate? (How were they created?)
Some formats can be brought in with the help of plug-ins.
MPEG Streamclip can usually convert them to Quick Time.

Final Cut Pro X Export Help...

I have Final Cut Pro X 10.0.5 installed and I'm editing a video I made a while back; the RAW version I made was 700MB+ and the edited/exported version came out to 136MB (That I'm working on now) wants to be exorted as 441.4MB. I want to know how to get it exported as the same size it is now or smaller?? lol

Can't open Final Cut Pro anymore. HELP!!!

I can't open my Final Cut Pro. When I click to open it, a message comes up saying, "Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly." It tells me to click reopen to open the application, but every time I click reopen, the same message screen comes back. I can't open Final Cut. I need help.

I am having same exact problem.
It was working fine for years, and all of a sudden, after a Mac Os X Software Update it will NOT open, ( I think this may have caused the problem, however I am not sure)

Final Cut Pro X Exporting help!?

I've used Final Cut Pro X before and had no problem sharing/exporting projects and burning them on the dvd's but now it won't work. Everytime I click export movie nothing happens. Or when I put share to DVD I get this error messege "The operation couldn't be completed. (com.apple.Compressor.CompressorKit.ErrorDomain error -1.) The properties info is 1920x1080 , 23.98p. Surround 48kHz. I don't file size is a problem I think it might have to do with having to compress it? I don't know. I use to be able to export it and then having it export on quicktime. I also select the project/timeline and still doesn't work.

Then obviously your problem is different from that of the original poster. Are you getting the CompressorKit error message?

Final Cut Pro Size?

Clicking on the Final Cut Pro HD application icon and going to "Get Info" shows that the icon file size is 43 GB !! Is this right? It's devouring over half of the disk space on my Powerbook. What size is it on yours? If mine is excessively large, what would cause it?

This hasn't come up in a very long time, and I don't recall what the solution is.
Maybe at some point in time, perhaps even now, your Scratch Disk got set to the program file. Sounds silly, even impossible, but it's worth checking.
You can right-click on the program file and choose Show package contents, then nose around in all the folder. See if you see any Capture Scratch or Render Files folders.

Final Cut Pro Size Limitation

Hello,
I'm trying to work on a 4K (4096X2048) timeline and for some reaason anything after 4000 pixels crashes Final Cut Pro. Is there anyway of bypassing that, like we do in shake ?.

4k isn't supported I'm afraid. Might be some sort of hack you could do, but I'd not want to mess with the code involved myself.

Support for HDV did not arrive until FCP 5. You need to upgrade...to Final Cut Studio 2, which has FCP 6. Academic version is available for that too.

I have an old Canon Vixia HV30 in which I am unable to upload some old footage into the latest Final Cut Pro X. Any suggestions please?

Can't open Sony PXW-X70 (.mxf) video files for Final Cut Pro X or iMovie, please help!

Just got the Sony PXW-X70 and I can't seem to open the .mxf or even successfully transcode the video files into something that can be read on the mac. (Running 10.9.5)
I downloaded Brorsoft Video Converter for Mac and the Ackrock Video Converters and neither of them work. They just are able to import the audio but not the video portion.
Very frustrated here, any advice? Thanks!

The clips from the X70 are not XAVC-S, but XAVC (sometimes called XAVC-L) and the plugin from Sony linked above is not compatible with them. I also don't recommend those sketchy third party conversion options. Still, as of mid-December, the best options for getting Sony X70 XAVC clips into FCPX are:
1. Use the free Sony Catalyst Browse to convert them (one at a time, although you can queue up multiple files without waiting for the previous one to finish)
2. Use the $200 Sony Catalyst Prepare software
3. Shoot AVCHD until there is a solution from Sony - supposedly Sony is at work on a plugin for FCPX to allow native ingest/editing of these clips. I've read that it should arrive very soon, but we'll see.
I'm using option 1 - $200 is ridiculous, and I didn't buy a camera with 10-bit 4:2:2 and a strong codec to shoot in AVCHD
If it's any consolation, Avid and even Sony Vegas will not import them either.

Final Cut Pro Won't Open, Please Help

Hello everyone,
I had my main hard drive started to fail, but I was lucky enough that
I was able to clone the drive with Data Rescue II.
The majority of my files were ok. I had to do a reinstall for some
things. Which brings me to FCP. Whenever I try to launch FCP, I get the launch window, I get the window where everything is loading, then it just stops. I have FCP Studio install disk. After a couple tries, I reinstalled the software, and the same thing.
I deleted the Application file and the System ID file.
I reinstalled and updated, tried to launch, I have deleted the
application file in Application folder, reinstalled. and again
nothing.
One thing that I have noticed is that even after I deleted the Apps and System ID files, when I go to reinstall, it still says upgrade? Is there a file(s) that I am missing.
I am on a tight deadline, and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Try trashing your Preference files for FCP using this: http://fcprescue.andersholck.com/ If That fails, you could try creating a new user to give it another go with... BUT:
Funny, the same thing just happened to me. I used Data Rescue II as well. I've saved data several times for clients too, but in no case would I trust the clone that Data Rescue would deliver... I'd be starting over though with a fresh install of OS and applications. Be happy you've saved your data though, it can be copies over to a new startup disk.
I'd build a new startup disk from the ground up. Install OS X, Run Software update to get to the latest, then install the Studio, and run Software update again to get to the latest... then install other apps you need to. Using a different drive other than the one you are using now... that way you can copy over from the clone you're working with now.
You'll only need previous serial numbers for FCP when you install any of the upgrades. Just install the latest vesion you have.

Final Cut Pro X Transition Help

Hey everyone, I need some help with a project I'm currently working on. I'm making it so it looks like a very cheap and stupid infomercial type thing, so I'm using tons of cheap transitions and effects and such. One thing that is really annoying me though is the motion blur on all of the FCPX transitions, even on the most basic ones like slide, wipe, etc. All I'm asking is if there's a way to get rid of the motion blur.

There is no motion blur on any transitions other than the Blur ones.
You must be doing something wrong but without detailed info about your workflow we cannot guess what that might be.
Just one remote possibility comes to mind . . . . it could be that they need rendering to view clearly.
