Final Cut Pro to work on two computers simultaneously?

I have two iMac computers running the same version and serial number of Final Cut Pro. But, only one computer can work with Final Cut at a time. I have to log out from FCP to be able to open FCP on the second computer. This limits our ability to work more efficiently on the same project. Is there a solution for this?

I think you're talking about Final Cut Pro 7. You need to ask your questions about that application on the Final Cut Studio forum.
No, there is no solution for you aside from taking the computers off the network.
P.S. If you are using two machines simultaneously you should purchase two copies of the software.

help am trying to download final cut pro x on my hp window 7 does  it work on hp computers

No & NO on HP PC.
Most Macs built after 2009 should be OK.
Earlier than that your chances  diminish depending on model and personal upgrades.
The App Store will not allow a download on a Mac that is under specs.

  • I can not update final cut pro on one of two computers

I updated Final Cut Pro X on lap top but can not update on IMac.  Purchased through app store.

You can just copy the app across with a USB thumbdrive.

  • Import from Final Cut Pro not working correctly

I have a very simple project in FCP. (Ver 6) It is a HD clip that is about 5 min long with 7 chapter markers.
I exported the project as an XML file and imported that into Premiere Pro empty project.
I wind up with two assets, a .mov with same name as the .mov in FCP and a sequence with the same named sequence in FCP.
Right clicking on the .mov and selecting "New sequence from clip" creates a new sequence with the .mov on the timeline.
    There are no markers.
Right clicking on the sequence asset and selecting "New sequence from clip" creates another sequence with the same name and the .mov on the timeline.
The markers are inside the .mov and audio tracks, not up on the top ruler line where markers appear when manually adding markers.
The keystrokes to move to markers do not work.
The "Clear all Markers" function is greyed out , like it is when no markers exist.
If a "Dynamic link to Encore is performed, there is no markers in Encore.
If you enter chapter markers manually and look at the project file (an XML file) you will see indexes with the chapter points , durations and names as children named "Markers" with attribute"ObjectID='22'.under "//PremiereData"
Following , in sequential order, are subsequent objects "Markers", ObjectID='23" through "ObjectID=n
However, if you look at the project file after importing a FCP project, this same function occurs, except that it is "Markers" "ObjectID=30 with the indexes and marker data 31 through n (further down in the file). This area is empty when adding the markers manually in Premiere Pro.
FYI , the project file is littered with the word "Marker" and "Markers" throughout the file, only their attributes make any node unique.
I am at 99.9 &% finished with a VB program to create / modify nodes, values and attributes, except that the XML date changes format at the node named "//WorkspaceSettings" so I am not able to edit values to make a file that will not crash when opening.
I would very much like the import from Final Cut Pro to work, or someone explain how to work with the nodes under "//WorkspaceSettings"
    Thank millions for a solution.

It's a 2007 iMac with 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.  I had been using Final Cut Pro without any problems right until I upgraded to Yosemite.  I'm hoping that upgrading to Yosemite doesn't mean I can't continue using Final Cut Pro - that would be extremely frustrating.

  • If I update to Snow Leopard, will final cut pro still work?

If I update to Snow Leopard, will final cut pro still work? My current version of Final Cut Pro is 6.0.6. Thanks.

Apple is not telling you the Complete story about Lion.
The installer for FCP 6 is Power PC code/ IBM CPU code, which Lion does not support.
FCP 6 is NOT Power PC code, it will run on Lion and Mountain Lion, as I have read on many posts.
    The solution??
Solution condition where FCP 6 installed and upgrading OS to Lion
Do nothing, its already running OK
Solution condition where FCP 6 not installed and OS Lion installed.
Connect a firewire drive to your MAC and install the old OS on it (eg snow leopard) ,
    Reboot to that OS
    Install FCP 6
Reboot to your new OS   (EG Lion)
    Run FCP 6

  • Will the new final cut pro x work with my Final cut pro version 6.0.6 data

will the new final cut pro x work with my Final cut pro version 6.0.6 data

    Thanks Tom.
So I will need  upgrade to FCP 7 first, then convert to an XML file in 6.0.6, then convert to another file that FCP X can read? I have a lot of half done projects that need finishing. Is this process very complex and time consuming?
Maybe I should be approaching this from a different angle. The reason I am asking is that I now need to upgrade to a new Mac book pro and have been told that I cant run final cut pro 6.0.6 on the new models using maverick. Is this true?

  • I have put several clips with transitions into the timeline in final cut pro. There are two clips which are followed by transitions which do not play at the right speed. It is extremely frustrating, can anyone help?

I have put several clips with transitions into the timeline in final cut pro X. There are two separate clips which are followed by transitions which do not play at the right speed. I'm at a loss as to why this is happening - any thoughts/help?

The two HD clips were purchased from itunes (MPEG - 4) and converted to .mov for use in Final Cut Pro. Project properties - 720p HD 1280x720 (60p)
    Is this enough information?

  • Doe Final Cut Pro 7 work in Yosemite?

Does anyone know if Final Cut Pro 7 work in the new Yosemite upgrade?

Thank for the advice and link, Meg, but your are overly paranoid RE CleanMyMac 2. For fear of hijacking this tread (FCP + Yosamite) I will be very brief. (And, no, I do not work for MacPaw and am generally not a fan of their software.)
I've been a Mac-man since '84, and still have my 512k Mac SE (Yes, I still have it working). Now I am a Certified Computer Forensic Examiner and know very very well what goes on under the hood of OS X, am very familiar with the directory corruption that seems so persistent in the HFS+ file system, the relatively unstable permissions and all the crap that doesn't get cleaned out or managed "automatically" or at all by OS X.  I don't need Arabic, French, Spanish, Danish or any other of the multitude of language iterations of OS X and/or other Apple software that unnecessarily sapping gigabytes of space on my machine. If I drag an App to the Trash there can be a multitude of extensions, drivers, settings/plists files and other junk that does NOT get removed with it... and if the average user discovers how to get into their relatively hidden Users/(Profile)/Library and try to remove stuff manually they are very likely to screw up their OS or break their other software. I have tested CleanMyMac 2 in a lab environment and, while the original was kind of screwy and less effective, CleanMyMac 2, does an excellent job of getting rid of totally unnecessary, disk-bloating CRAP from your drive and does it in a manner that is way more efficient and reliable than trying to do it manually. I've never had a negative experience with CMM2 and have found it to be no more difficult to remove manually than any of a bunch of other software.
While it does nothing to correct permissions errors or fix directory issues (sorry OS X Disk Utility ***** at that), I've found it to do an excellent job at locating and cleaning out all the stuff that OS X simply does not do on its own and does result in a more efficient, slightly faster-running machine.
Again, Meg, I appreciate your trying to help me out and provide caution regarding "cleaning" software. I, myself remain generally dubious about other products from MacPaw (particularly Gemini). It is certainly your right to avoid all of it and even Troll my feedback regarding CMM2. But lab results don't lie and my experience has consistently shown CleanMyMac 2 to be useful and non-destructive to my system and/or other software.
...... And it was an effective utility I used to get my FCP 7 to work again.

  • Will Final Cut Pro X work with Yosemite

Will Final Cut Pro X work with Yosemite?

me too version 10.8. It would have been nice to know yosemite was going to crap out my primary video editing software! I use this for my video editing for my business video production and it would have been nice to know ahead of time or here's a crazy idea how about the software developers who are making millions off final cut pro sales release a fix BEFORE apple roles out yosemite for free. I don't have time to chase down every blog in the world to see issues etc. The reason I bought a mac is I just need it to work so I can work on my business.

  • Why would Final Cut Pro 7 work smoother on one user account over another?

I just purchased a new 27" iMac 3.1 Ghz Intel Core i5, 16GB RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB. Just went to Mountain Lion a few days ago. I installed a licensed version of Final Cut Pro 7 on my account (Admin). However, the program immediately started to lag. I click on ANYTHING on the FCP interface (Modify, Sequence, etc), it immediately stalls for about 3 seconds, and then color wheel spins for a few more seconds before the menu finally drops down. Footage logs fine but the same thing happens when I drop a small video snippet on the timeline and try to play. Stall, color wheel, then it needs to "catch up" before the footage starts to play.
I don't think this has anything to do with footage formats or anything like that. I did a little research and someone said to open FCP on a different user account. I did and low and behold, FCP works swimmingly. Very odd. This particular person suggested to uninstall and then reinstall FCP on the main user account. I did. But I still have the same issue with the stalling and lagging of the program on the main user account. Now no footage is logged. It's just an empty project and I'm still having these problems with lagging. So I know it's definitely not a footage issue.
I ran diagnostics on my HD and everything is perfectly fine. Does anybody know of what could be causing this? Thanks!

Possibly corrupted preference files. If you don't have it already, download Digital Rebellion's Preference Manager.
Also, since you just did this fresh install, I'd repair permissions in Disk Utility.
    Good luck.

  • Best way to export from Motion 2 into Final Cut Pro 5, working in DV?

I am working in DV in Final Cut Pro 5, and I would like to get the best quality from anything I bring in from Motion 2 into Final Cut Pro 5, I keep hearing use the Animation codec. I would like to hear from the Panel of experts.
    Happy Thanksgiving,
    Sebastian

The Best way is to round-trip from FCP. Or simply import the .motn file directly into FCP. If you require an alpha channel and for some reason don't want to bring the .motn file in, Animation with millions+ for the colors (+ is the alpha channel) will work, But if you just want straight DV, you should export a DV file.

  • Final Cut Pro quit working

I have final cut pro 4 and it has suddenly decided to fail in starting after "loading audio services". I've looked on these forums and tried deleting my preferences files, logging in as a different user, moving all the plugins out of the FCP applications support folder, deleting all of the VST plugins in my /library/audio/plugins folder. i can't run fcp rescue because the site is over it's bandwidth limit so I can't download it, but all that does is delete the two preferences files anyhow, no?
I've recently installed sibelius with kontakt player gold, could that have something to do with anything, it's the only new audio software I have.

Sibelius isn't the only change I've made, it's just the only audio related change that I can think of. I was hoping someone could tell me if they were running the two together successfully before I delete and do a lengthy reinstall for no reason. I deleted it anyhow and all of it's support files and the problem wasn't fixed.
You are right, I didn't search overly hard for FCP Rescue, because as I said, all it does is delete the preferences file. thanks for the link, but after running it just said "no setting no backups" because I had already deleted them. I hardly need an GUI to do that for me.
As I said in my first post I've already logged in as another user and tried running it. I logged in as root.

  • Can Final Cut Pro 606 work in Maverick

Im running Final Cut Pro 606 OS 10.6.8 and want to know if it works in Mavrick?

    Hi there avcreations1,
It looks like Final Cut Pro 6 is not supported in OS X 10.7 and later. The article below states that only Final Cut Pro 7 and X are compatible with Mac OS X Lion (v10.7).

  • Dvd created in final cut pro not working

I have created multiple Dvd's in Final Cut Pro X and never seem to have a problem. Yet with my most recent project I've run into a problem. The created Dvd's will not play on any of our dvd players, blue ray or regular player. The error message I am getting on some of them is "region not supported". But they will play on any Pc or Mac I insert them in. I burned the Dvd using the dvd function in Final Cut.
    Any advise?

For copy-protection reasons, DVDs (the video ones) have a regional "code" - for example, North America is region 1, and Europe is 2 (grosso modo). Computers for the most part ignore this, but common DVD players don't - so a region 1 player refuses to play region 2 discs, etc.
In old times, I remember that DVD drives that came with Macs were set to some region (presumably according to where they were bought), and there was a way to change it, but you were limited to some 5 changes, after which the drive would be locked at whatever "region" it was in. I don't remember how that region was changed, but it does look like the region associated with the DVD drive in your mac did indeed change, so as to make it different from your local one.

  • Final cut pro not working with Yosemite

I yesterday installed Yosemite and the previous version of Final Cut Pro does not work with it.  When I try to install the latest version of Final Cut Pro from the purchased tab in the app store, I get the message:  "Final Cut can't be installed on this computer because it requires at least 4 GB of memory".  When I go to the storage tab in "About This Mac", it shows that I have 154.49 GB free of 319.21 GB.  Can someone help?  Many thanks.
