Final Cut Pro workshop or class

Hello! A few months back I started creating videos for my YouTube channel using Final Cut Pro X. I feel like I have self-taught myself the basics of FCP, but i would like to take my video editing skills to the next level. Does anyone know if Apple provides classes / workshops for Final Cut Pro? Or even better, if I could have a one-on-one session with a FCP expert an an Apple Store?

If you go to an apple store you can indeed have a workshop on FCP, but it is not one on one.
Just to add that if you buy a new Mac, you can buy a year's worth one-to-one instruction for $99. As I recall, that entitles you to one hour of instruction a week. A downside to this arrangement is that a trainer is assigned at the time of each session, and that trainer may or may not be one who has worked with you previously. In other words, it can be challenging to maintain continuity.

  • Final Cut Pro Workshop

I am going to a Final Cut Pro Workshop tomorrow, but I really don't know what exactly it will be like....will it just be something basic? I have a lot of questions...if someone who has already gone to one of these things could tell me what they are like I would appreciate it.
    Thanks!

Without knowing the EXACT vendor and class, no one can even begin to offer a useful answer your question.
Don't these people have a telephone number? A location?
Why not ask them about the structure, depth and outcomes of the course?

  • Final Cut Pro Trial Event and Project Folders

I've just started my Final Cut Pro X TRIAL for 30 days on my Mac OS X version 10.9.4. I've used Final Cut Pro in a class before, and normally, I save all of my events and projects on an external drive to save space on my computer's hard drive. BUT THERE ARE NO EVENT AND PROJECT FOLDERS under my 'movies' folder in the finder window. Not only do I want to finish up a few projects I've already started elsewhere with saved projects and events, I'd like to be able to save projects and events externally so I can work with them anywhere. I started a first project and event to see if the event and project files would be created in my "Movies" folder, but the only folders created (which was in movies) were "Final Cut Optimized Media" and "Final Cut Original Media". How can I create "Final Cut Events" and "Final Cut Projects" folders in my movie folder, so that when I drag events and projects into these folders, they'll show up in Final Cut? Is this just for the Trial?? Please help...

    Hi Tom,
Thanks for your help. I've been trying to update my events and projects into the new libray system, but I'm failing. Maybe you can help. I've tried several ways, but mainly when I got to choose the old event and project files to be updated (either be going to File - -update libraries and events - -locate... or by File--open library--other..--locate...when I highlight my old event and project files (which are on an external harddrive), it either says 'Final cut can't find any events or projects to update' (in the case of updating) or (int eh case of opening) it just keeps making me choose a folder inside the project (with all the different kinds of media and changed files)...argh. Does that make sense? Any help? Thank you.

  • Can anyone recommend personal or class training, for Final Cut Pro in NYC?

Can anyone recommend personal or class training, for Final Cut Pro in NYC?

Try starting with the free online tutorials like Izzy, http://www.izzyvideo.com/final-cut-pro-x-tutorial/, or Final Cut Pro X TV, http://fcpx.tv/. I got started on theose a few months ago.

  • How do I enter a license number in Final Cut Pro X?

I am taking a class that includes a license for Final Cut Pro X.  I was given a license number by my teacher and told to "download Final Cut from Apple and enter the license number".  When I download the trial I don't see any way to upgrade it to a full version with my license number, and the only other option seems to be to click "buy" in the App Store to get the full version.
    What am I missing?

    >I was given a license number by my teacher and told to "download Final Cut from Apple and enter the license number".
The solution is quite simple. Ask your teacher.

  • Handicap/Disabled user of Final Cut Pro

I am teaching a Final Cut Pro Editing class at San Francisco State University. One of my students has cerebral palsy. He is extremely bright and very determined to learn to use FCP despite his limited motor skills. (He types with one finger and can use the mouse but cannot work with two hands at the same time.)
Does anyone know about special hardware configurations for users who have physical impairments like my student?
    Thank You

I occasionally work with adults and children who have learning difficulties and I would agree with the suggestions of the other posters.
I am sure your University will have Learning Support teachers who can give you more specific professional advice.
I am disappointed that you refer to your student as Handicap. The term means you have made him put his hand in his hat to deprive him of equality.
More appropriately, your student will have learning needs, as we all do.
In the organisations I work with, they must by law have a written policy of Inclusion, a statement that the organisation will have equal opportunities for everyone, the terms Handicap and Disabled do not appear.
I commend you for taking the time to find out how to assist your student.

  • Final Cut Pro Training NY

I was looking into an Apple Certification for FCP6 and there a few authorized centers here in the NYC area and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with them in terms of quality? Soho Editors, The Edit Center and the Manhattan Edit Workshop in particular.
    Any info would be helpful.

For training in FCPX there are lots of choices. Here are a few I've found to be good:
    - Izzy Video's 26 part free tutorial  http://www.izzyvideo.com/final-cut-pro-x-tutorial-completed/
    - Steve Martin & Mark Spencer https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL607BE2B2BFE9BE1A
    - Denver Riddle tutorials on Color Grading V http://www.fcp.co/final-cut-pro/tutorials/477-a-free-fifteen-part-course-on-colo r-grading-within-fcpx
There are lots of courses available from Ripple Training, Creative Cow, Larry Jordan, Lynda.com, John Lynn and many others.
Books are another great source. Personal favorite is Tom Wolsky's FINAL CUT PRO X
http://www.amazon.com/Final-Cut-iMovie-Express-Users/dp/0240823664 Tom is our resident guru and always available to provide advise on how to sort out our FCPX problems - an outstanding resource!
These suggestions barely scratch the surface of all that's available online and in print but should get you started and editing quickly.
    Enjoy.

  • Provide Feedback for the Final Cut Pro User Manual and Onscreen Help Here

The Apple documentation team for Final Cut Pro would like to know what you think about the Final Cut Pro 5 Help documentation (available in the Help menu):
    • How often do you use the Final Cut Pro Help? Under what circumstances do you use it most?
    • How do you find what you're looking for in Final Cut Pro Help? For example: table of contents, index, skimming, PDF links, PDF search?
    • What do you like about it most?
    • What is missing?
    • Are there any particular examples of manuals or documentation that you consider to be good models for the Final Cut Pro manual and onscreen help?
    • By what method do you usually learn a new application? For example: provided tutorials and manuals, third-party tutorials or books, training classes?
    • Did you use the Final Cut Pro Getting Started book to familiarize yourself with Final Cut Pro? If so, do you feel the book provided a good introduction to the application?
    • What do you think is the most difficult feature/concept to grasp in Final Cut Pro?
    • What's the most frustrating experience you've had with the Final Cut Pro documentation?
    • Do you prefer electronic or print documentation?
    • Are there any other delivery methods or media you think we should explore?
    • What size computer display do you typically use to view the onscreen help? For example: 15-inch, 17-inch, 20-inch, 23-inch, or 30-inch?
    • What resolution is the computer display set to when you view onscreen help? For example: 1024 x 768, 1280 x 854, or 1920 x 1200 pixels?
    • Do you use multiple computer displays?

    • How often do you use the Final Cut Pro Help? Under
what circumstances do you use it most?
Often, I much prefer that to the Manual, though the Search function is very clunky. Search for Nest for example and you'll get about 50 listings for the table of contents and indexes alone, when all I would really want is the explanation of how to actually create a Nest.
    • How do you find what you're looking for in Final
Cut Pro Help? For example: table of contents, index,
    skimming, PDF links, PDF search?
    Search.
    • What do you like about it most?
Ease of use to get through the manual instead of going through the books themselves.
    • What is missing?
Better organization of the search results. Again, if I search Nests, make the first set of results the answers that actually show me how to use the tool, not the 50 times it appears in the table of contents and indexes.
    • Are there any particular examples of manuals or
documentation that you consider to be good models for
the Final Cut Pro manual and onscreen help?
Honestly, Apple's is the best I've seen for the moment.
    • By what method do you usually learn a new
application? For example: provided tutorials and
manuals, third-party tutorials or books, training
    classes?
Just crack the app open and start. Use websites like the Creative Cow for more input and ideas.
    • Did you use the Final Cut Pro Getting Started book
to familiarize yourself with Final Cut Pro? If so, do
you feel the book provided a good introduction to the
    application?
I thought the Tutorial that came with my first copy of FCP (Version 2.0) was outstanding at introducing me to the interface and how FCP operated. I came from Media 100 and in particular, the Log and Capture operation was completely different than what I was used to.
    • What do you think is the most difficult
feature/concept to grasp in Final Cut Pro?
Media Manager. Not sure why it has to be so convoluted. Media 100 was too easy with this one. Select the Sequence to be up-rez'd, set your new format and capture.
    • What's the most frustrating experience you've had
with the Final Cut Pro documentation?
Search results using the Help menu.
    • Do you prefer electronic or print documentation?
Actually both. If the electronic search gets too frustrating, I'll pull the print manual out to find what I really need.
    • Are there any other delivery methods or media you
    think we should explore?
Not really. Internet based help is always nice, but I don't keep my FCP workstations connected to the web so that would actually create a bigger hassle for us.
    • What size computer display do you typically use to
view the onscreen help? For example: 15-inch,
    17-inch, 20-inch, 23-inch, or 30-inch?
    17" Powerbook display, 17" 20" and 23" Apple Displays and a 17" Sony Display.
    • What resolution is the computer display set to when
you view onscreen help? For example: 1024 x 768, 1280
    x 854, or 1920 x 1200 pixels?
    Highest resolution for that monitor.
    • Do you use multiple computer displays?
    Yes. 23 & 17" on one G5. 20 & 17" on the 2nd G5. 17" Powerbook
Powerbook G4 17, G5 Dual 2.0, G5 Dual 2.0 Mac OS X (10.4.5) AJA Kona 2 on both G5's, Fibre Channel and SATA arrays in use.

  • What's so good about Final Cut Pro?

Hi everyone, I am totally new to Macs, switching over from the PC. And so far, I have to say that I honestly enjoy the Macs a lot more than the PC's. With that being said, my wife's friend was telling us that we should invest in Adobe Photoshop and Final Cut Pro. The problem is we know nothing about the two programs other than photoshop is obviously working with photos and final Cut has something to do with movies.
So can someone please tell us whats so good about these two programs. And if we were to buy them, is there some sites that offer good tutorials to learn how to operate each of them?

A quick tour of Final Cut Pro can be found here:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/finalcutpro/
    and Final Cut Express here:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutexpress/tutorials/
There are paid tutorials found at Lynda.com. And a smattering found ALL OVER THE PLACE...some on the Creative Cow:
    http://library.creativecow.net/tutorials/applefinalcutpro
But those are advanced ones for people already familiar with FCP. The ones on Lynda.com are for beginners through experts. And there are books:

  • Final Cut Pro User Manual

    Hi,
I am currently tutoring a class on Final Cut Pro 5.
does anyone know where I can get physical copies of the manual?
I currently am teaching via a non-searchable PDF version of the manual and would be grateful if anyone can help.
    regards,
    Pete.

Put the Help file PDF on a CD and take it to Kinkos (or you local copy center) and have them print and bind the manuals.
Or, purchase one of the many 'learn FCP' books.
What do you mean 'non-searchable"? My versions of Adobe reader will search the help file with no difficulty. What's up with yours?

  • 60 HOUR Movie! Can Final Cut Pro Handle My Movie??

    Hi,
I'm currently working on an art film, which when completed will be around 60+ hours. My assumption is that I'll have to get an enormous external hard drive to store all the files + playback. I planned on playing the film off of the external drive through a laptop and then to a monitor. My question is can Final Cut Pro handle a film of this length if I have the storage, and can anyone see any issues I may encounter with the mentioned setup? Any advice, or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

You aren't going to need an enormous external hard drive as in one - you are going to need several external hard drives. If you work with just about anything over DV you will need plenty of space.
FYI, we edit classes captured over the course of the semester. It is 40-50 hours of video captured in DV-NTSC format. It requires around 400-500GB of storage space per class. If you work in any format larger than DV-NTSC you will need much more storage space.
As per your question, Final Cut Pro 5.1.2 timelines only go up to 12 hours of video (or 6 hours for sequences with high audio rates). There isn't generally much of a need for anything more than that.

  • Does Final Cut Pro X Utilize Multiple GPUs if more than one is installed?

For example, does Final Cut Pro X utltize both GPU's to help in rendering if you went with the two ATI Radeon 5770 option in a Mac Pro? Thanks for any help!
    Dan

    - NO - kind of but not really - take a class - watch some basic videos on you tube...
    - YES - multicam is excellent
    - YES - you can switch it off - but you probably won't when you get used to it - after about 5 days
    - YES - very much so in the browser where it counts
    - YES... I think.
Really go watch some basic entry level FCP X vids - the answers are all there. I recommend watching the latest from 2014 on YouTube. There are plenty.

  • Final Cut Pro requirements

Hi. I'm in the process of learning video editing, and I'm going to be taking classes to get up to speed Final Cut Pro. Eventually I plan to have the program at home, and I was wondering how much space it takes up on the computer. I already have 2 GB of memory installed, but I also have Pro Tools on my iMac, which uses a lot of juice. Would I eventually need to get an additional Mac for FCP, or is adding more memory to this one sufficient?
If anyone has any opinions or suggestions on the program in general, I'm all ears.
    Thanks!
    Jon
