Final Cut Pro X (10.1.4) refuses to quit

It does everything properly while I'm working with it but then refuses to fully quit and I can't reopen it or shut down or sleep the computer. I end up having to manually shut down and restart each time. I'm running Yosemite on a quad core xeon Mac Pro. I've tried trashing the preferences and closing all libraries but it seems to have no impact. Any help?

For future use I suggest you download these 2 free apps.

Shut down FCP X, open PreferenceManager and in the window that appears:-
1. Ensure that FCP X is selected.
2. Click Trash
The job is done instantly and you can re-open FCP X.

Help! Final Cut Pro unexpectedly quits during export.

This couldn't have happened at a worse time. I'm desperate to make a deadline and every time I try export using final cut pro OR compressor the program will unexpectedly quit in the middle of it. It usually happens within 10 minutes of a 40 minute export. I'm just doing a standard quicktime export of an 80 minute long movie. It was working fine only a few days ago. Anyone have any ideas what this might be? We've tried all the normal things, restarting, using final cut rescue, etc.
Not sure what else to say. We are in a huge time crunch and we can't even get it off of the computer and on to another one.
If you need any more info please ask.

Hey thanks for your help! Yes I have tried exporting a self contained movie but everytime it just quits on me. I've tried about 15 times so far. if it is a corrupt render file is there something I can do about that? Ive been trying to render it to the full render in final cut as well before an export but after about 5 minutes final cut quits. So now it quits when I render AND when I export. So ive been going through and rendering 3 minutes at a time, maybe that will help. I dunno.

Final Cut pro refuses to open

For some reason, after the first time I quit out of Final Cut Pro (6), it has refused to open when I click on it. It shows its loading screen but then simply quits afterwards. Am I simply missing something? I have FInal Cut Studio 2 and all the other programs are running correctly, just not Final Cut Pro.

Here's the old school way to trash preferences and repair permissions.
Close Final Cut Pro.
Go to: Users/your user name/Library/Preferences.
Drag, "com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist" to the trash.
Scroll down to the Final Cut Pro User Settings folder.
Drag, "Final Cut Pro 6 Preferences" to the trash.
Drag, "Final Cut Pro Obj Cache" to the trash
Drag, "Final Cut Pro POA Cache" to the trash.
Go to: Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility
Select your system disk
Click on the Repair Permissions button
Wait for the permissions to be repaired
Restart your computer
FYI
Trashing preferences tends to fix some odd behavior, and will be like bringing FCP back to the first time you opened it. You will have to reset scratch disk etc. once you do this.

IDVD Refuses To Recognize 15:9 NTSC Anamorphic from Final Cut Pro

I read the following article on getting iDVD to recognize an anamorphic 16:9 video from Final Cut Pro:

My movie says it is in 16:9 anamorphic in QuickTime Pro, and the window is sized properly, but when I drop the movie into an iDVD project, it comes in 4:3, even though I selected a 16:9 iDVD theme to start with.
Anyone have any ideas as to why iDVD is ignoring my movie's aspect ratio?

I found out that I had to choose "Anamorphic" for the timeline in Final Cut Pro to fix the problem.

Final Cut Pro refuses to quit

This afternoon, I received my upgrade to Final Cut Studio. Diligently closing all apps (no idea why, but I do) I then inserted the install dvd and off we went.
On finishing the whole lot I took the time to reboot, just in case. Check to see if there were any updates (there were) and then opened up FCP and went to work.
Now I find I can't exit or quit FCP because I have a dialog that tells me: "You cannot quit Final Cut Pro while rendering a job for Compressor. Cancel or allow the job to finish and then quit Final Cut pro."
THERE ARE NOT JOBS RUNNING!!!!
Could someone; anyone shed some light on what is or may be happening, please? (No comments about a coven meeting in my machine, please!)

Please give your full system specifications, what computer, what drives, what camera or deck, how everything's connected, what settings are on the media, what settings you're using in Final Cut, and finally what version of the software, of the OS, and of QuickTime you are using.
Also what did you upgrade from and to as to FCP version numbers.

Final Cut Pro search window does not SORT.

I am an editor and I use Final Cut Pro everyday. I recently had to upgrade to LION because of a wonderful Quicktime update that corrupts
video codec files on Snow Leopard. So now that I have LION I can actually edit again. But, when I try to import files into Final Cut the
search window wont sort my files by date, name, etc...
It wont actually sort by anything. Every other program works fine for that, mainly After Effects. I have to manually go find files that I used
to give a certain naming system to because I could find them easily by typing in one word.
I also cannot search the Network anymore at my office which is a real pain. We dump all our finished projects onto a huge server. Now
when I need to find an old file I have to know the exact date it was made or else I have to go searching through every folder in our server.
Any body know of any way to fix these issues without having to rewrite code which I really don't want to do with my company computer.
Also our IT people refuse to learn anything at all about MAC computers which is SO helpful...

Im not sure what you are referring to. Maybe I didn't explain the problem correctly.
Final Cut seems as if it is not indexing the files. Most of the time it won't even show me dates (modified, created, etc...) just dashes. Then if I do what you are describing and try to sort it at all it stays in the same exact order. I can't even sort alphabetically.

Exporting a JPEG in 4:3 from video footage in Final Cut pro is impossible

I'm trying to export a screen grab from final cut pro as a jpg. It's easy to export a jpg image, but as far as I can tell, it is completely impossible to export it as a 4:3 aspect ratio image. My video footage is all 4:3 but all of the jpg images I try to export come out squished into 16:9. This is driving me crazy!
Here is what I'm doing . . .
Export >Using Quicktime Conversion >Format (Still Image)
From their I've tried every setting you can imagine and FCP still obstinately refused to allow me to export a jpg image in it's true proportions.
Please prove me wrong.

Awesome! You rock moblie! Thanks a lot for the info. I was wondering why the image proportions were correct in photoshop (ie. 720x480, I thought those were 4:3 dimensions, but I guess it's just resolution?). I adjusted the image in photoshop to be 720x534 pixels and it looks fine now.
I realize this isn't the smartest question in the world, but why isn't 720x480 a 4:3 aspect ratio? I don't really understand aspect ratio all that well (as you can tell).

How do I convert .vob files to run in Final Cut Pro X?

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to convert Video_TS files (.vob) to work on Final Cut Pro X. I've tried a free trial of a couple of third party file converters which manage to convert the files to .mov or .mp4, but then when I drag and drop them into Final Cut Pro X it gives no video or audio. Any help would be really appreciated!

Did you do this from the MPEG Streamclip download page?
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion and Mountain Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion and Mountain Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion or Mountain Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b8 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component M. Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion or Mountain Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion and Mountain Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion and Mountain Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

Motion Blur doesn't work in Final Cut Pro

I've been working on stuff and int he past Motion Blur worked and now when I use it the motion blur has refused to work as a preview or after I render it. Is there something i'm doing wrong that's making it happen?
I'm using Mac OS X Leopard, the latest final cut pro and i'm using blue and green screen and Chroma Keyer and image control sinc ei'm making a sillouette and it's worked for me before.
If someone can reply and suggest anything that would be awseome.

Does your object to be blurred actually move...if not then use a blur filter
When you check the motion blur box and click the disclosure triangle what is the Blur percentage? did you try increasing it? If so does it make a difference?

Dvd created in final cut pro not working

I have created multiple Dvd's in Final Cut Pro X and never seem to have a problem. Yet with my most recent project I've run into a problem. The created Dvd's will not play on any of our dvd players, blue ray or regular player. The error message I am getting on some of them is "region not supported". But they will play on any Pc or Mac I insert them in. I burned the Dvd using the dvd function in Final Cut.
Any advise?

For copy-protection reasons, DVDs (the video ones) have a regional "code" - for example, North America is region 1, and Europe is 2 (grosso modo). Computers for the most part ignore this, but common DVD players don't - so a region 1 player refuses to play region 2 discs, etc.
In old times, I remember that DVD drives that came with Macs were set to some region (presumably according to where they were bought), and there was a way to change it, but you were limited to some 5 changes, after which the drive would be locked at whatever "region" it was in. I don't remember how that region was changed, but it does look like the region associated with the DVD drive in your mac did indeed change, so as to make it different from your local one.

Why doesn't Final Cut Pro X update songs from Garageband?

While working on a short film in Final Cut Pro X, I worked up a simple sound track in Garageband. I imported the Garageband project, aligned it, and discovered that I'd mistimed one of the sound transitions.
So, I went back to Garageband and updated the transition, moving the sound effect to the right spot to match up to the video, and then went back to FCPX. I dragged the Garageband project onto the original copy that I'd imported, and selected "replace" and ended up with... the original. After some experimenting, I actually went and deleted an entire track from the Garageband project and reloaded it in FCPX... still no change. How can I fix this?

Here's an update...
I made some changes to the Garageband track and saved it as another project... Final Cut refused to even detect it until I restarted Final Cut.
I have a sound effect that's placed at 1:32 in Garageband, and it ALWAYS plays at 1:31 in Final Cut, no matter how shift it around in Garageband. After changing the song in Garageband and sharing it to disk, I verified that the sound effect is happening at 1:32 by playing it back in Quicktime, so it must be Final Cut that's misbehaving.

I'm with Jon on this one. I know someone who uses FCP 5.0 on a MacBook Pro, he has all sorts of wierd issues including:
Projects he has created throwing up an error message "Unreadable on this machine" when re-opened.
Projects losing and refusing to connect to render files.
Dissolves simply not working -this is not to do with lack of handles, it just happens.
LiveType and FCP's own title generator files not automatically compositing.
Lots of kernel panics and unexpected quits.
These might not happen all the time, but always crop up at the worst possible moment.
I can move his project files and media to my setup and everything works.

Final Cut Pro 5.1.4

hi, I have Final cut studio. I recently upgraded to 5.1 ... then 5.1.4
All seem to be working. Today I upgraded to 10.4.9 and things started happening. First I couldn't get FCP to do anything. So, I trashed the prefs and fcp data folder in library/ preferences. And FCP worked once, the next time it went back to not allowing me to do anything. So, I called support and I trashed FCP application and re-installed 5.1 from disc. Well, STILL it does not work, so I upgraded to 5.1.4 and STILL i can't do nothing!!!
HELP PLEASE!!!

FCP studio, latest updates
G5 2.0Ghz PPC
2.5 gigs of ram
OSX 10.4.9
Many of the drop downs are greyed out, my "about final cut pro' is greyed out too!
Also I have many programs! And I have Waves SSL plug-ins which caused Logic Pro problems, but they made a fix for it.
I just can't do anything and just purchased 2 Sony HDR-FX7's!
G5 Mac OS X (10.4.9) none

I seen nothing about problems, only with Logic Pro and my SSL / Waves plug-ins. i did not know of FCP and 10.4.9 problems.
You gotta frequent these forums more often...this and creativecow.net or lafcpug.org or dvxuser.com...any FCP forum. This has been everywhere. Real users trying things out in the real world...not controlled environments of the Apple lab, where there aren't real editors and people using the apps in real world environments.

Then you are stuck with things not working. And HOPEFULLY the Leopard will come out soon and possibly solve things. Most likely it won't. Best solution is to go back to a combination that works. If you refuse...than that is your problem. Sorry to be blunt.
i called tech support and he mentioned nothing of 10.4.9 having problems with FCP.
What do they know? Only what in in the Apple database...and that might not include what real people are experiencing right now...it might pop up there later, but for now, they know nothing. I can say this confidently as I was an Apple Support Technician, and if I didn't personally know the answer, I looked at the apple resources. If it wasn't there, than it wasn't an issue.
Experience tells me otherwise. Experience also taught me to never upgrade anything until it has been thoroughly tested to work.

Final Cut Pro won't open windows

Hi
I'm pretty new to FInal Cut Pro, and am still getting used to it, so forgive me if this question has a blindingly simple or obvious solution, as I'm reasonably sure it has.
For some reason, FCP is not wanting to open certain windows. More specifically in this instance the Tool Bench option under the Windows menu is greyed out, and won't let me open the window.
I've had problems previously where FCP would refuse to allow me to open the timeline window too. Is there something obvious I'm missing?

the tool bench window would only be an option if you actually had a tool bench hosted tool open (ie those tools listed under the tools menu) without a tool open then the tool bench window would just be a big grey empty square ... hence the option is disabled until you open a tool.
similarly the timeline and canvas window would be disabled if you did not actually have a sequence open else they would have nothing to show ... same rules apply
