A very interesting article Ken, especially the comments about compound clips within compound clips.
I've never experienced the horrific problems some folk have claimed but then I never put compound clips within compound clips.
In fact, until today I had never made a compound clip!

As your rotate the image, you will begin to see black edges. So, as Tom implies, the image must be scaled up to hide those voids. If you shot 4k ad are editing in a HD timeline, no problem, lots of room to spare. If you shot 1080 and are editing in a 1080 timeline, you will run into issues at a certain point. However, if your 1080 project is going to be transcoded to 720 or ye olde DVD you won't notice any deterioration at all.

After editing in lightroom, i transferred the photo to final cut pro. However the photo that shows in final cut pro is the unedited version and a bit blurry. Any ideas?

IIs there an export function from Lightroom? Did you export? Does the exported file contain your edit?
THe hard drive file size doesn't matter. What matters is the image size, it's dimensions in pixels.
IN FCP press Cmd-J to see the project properties.

Does it say it is already installed, or not compatible? If you have more than one boot volume attached, is it possible a copy is also on another drive/

The GPU in a iMac is NOT upgradeable.
You should check to see if your model of iMac meets the minimum specs to run FCPX.
I believe that your GPU is NOT OpenCL capable, and hence not supported.
Even if it works, you would probably get marginal performance.
What you can do is download the trial version and see how (and if) it works.

Can I transfer a project from the trial version of Final Cut Pro X to the Full version which I have now downloaded.

The trial version is named "Final Cut Pro Trial" and the App Store version is called "Final Cut Pro".
So, they can both be in the Applications folder at the same time, but only one can be open/launched at a time.
If, for some reason, your trial is older (like version 10.0.4) that your newly purchased FCPX (should be 10.0.5), and you do not click Update to your events/Projects, they will NOT show in the bought version!
Open the licensed FCPX and make sure it does update your things, in case it asks for it!

Oh my gosh I had the EXACT same problem, and for ages I couldn't figure out how to fix it until today. Here's what I did:
First I went onto my computer, opened itunes, and un-installed tumblr, vine and kik. These were the apps I was having problems with (it said I had them on my phone but, like you, they didn't show).
Then I went to the itunes store, searched for each one, and it said I could update them so I did (just FYI: for tumblr a window popped up saying "please click ok to confirm you are 17 years or older", so I did that also)
When I went back to my phone and tried installing them again (still on my computer), it worked!
I hope this helps, because it was incredibly frustrating. Good luck!

Exporting sequence from Final Cut Pro 7, some clips are pixellated and bad quality, does this have anything to do with the fact that I changed those clips speed?

Bit of a beginner using Final Cut Pro 7
Am currently trying to export a sequence using quicktime conversion. Sequence has various filters and effects over it and when I export it some of the clips are pixellated and appear to have not exported correctly. From what I can gather the affected clips have either been slowed down or made faster. I am wondering whether this is the reason they have not exported correctly
Any help would be appreciated

fwiw - do not use quicktime conversion. Use Export Quicktime with Current Settings enabled then do any format conversions in Compressor.

You purchase FCX in the Mac App Store, there is no disc. You can reload past purchases under your account within the app store. You should also be regularly backing up your system

How can i import old projects (Final Cut Pro 10) to the new (final cut pro 10.1.1)?

I have a folder full of backup projects and events of Final Cut Pro X.
Now, I have Final Cut Pro 10.1.1 and I don't know how to use those projects, since they were in a different folder.

I'm assuming these are on a secondary drive. At the drive's root level make folders called Final Cut Projects and Final Cut Events. Move the projects and events you want to work with into those folders. In FCP use File>Update projects and events. Select the drive you want to update and FCP will update the projects and events in those folders. Save the originals as backups.

I don't know what 15992 is talking about, the only way FCPX can be installed is with the App Store application on a Mac, which installs the FCPX application (it is a program) into the Applications folder, and puts the Events and Projects folders in the internal drive Movies folder.
If the user uses FCPX to move events and projects to other drives, FCPX knows it and creates those folders on those drives. Doing a sytem update will have no effect on any of those folders. Russ is right, please provide more details.

Final Cut Pro Quits in the middle opening the project

After finishing the project saving and quitting, I can not open it anymore. It say Final Cut Pro unexpectedly quit. Click here to restart or view report. I threw away the preferences no help. I went back 8 versions in auto save, it crashes again. Then I went back one day and I found a version that would not crash. Now I have to redo 10 hours of work. How do I find the reason? I wish I knew what causes it. I did apply smooth cam for the first time. Could it be the reason?

Since you know it's crashing around 50% into the sequence, mark an in and an out for the period around there, say 1 minute, and try and export again. If that fails, divide that in two and mark ins and outs over the first half. If that doesn't fail, say, then it's the second half where the problem lies. Keep narrowing down your focus until you have an idea which piece of media is the problem - you'll find it surprisingly quickly, as each of these shorter exports take barely any time to export. Then just overcut the media again. Sometimes media files or clips become corrupt and usually replacing them in the timeline sorts out the issue.

My final cut pro has been slowing down unbearably and creating duplicates

Hi. I have an appointment booked for the end of next week to have my laptop looked at but I was wondering if anyone might know what my issue is.
I've edited 7 projects on final cut pro 10 and they've all been fine. For some reason every time I closed the program a duplicate of my library was created to the point I had about 100 files. So when I started work on an eighth project, the program was running unbearably slow and my start up disk was full. I deleted all the duplicates but it is still running slow to the point it can't really be used, and it is still creating duplicates every time I close the program. It's also telling me my start up disk is full even though I've just deleted about 100 files and emptied them from the trash.
Another thing, I'm using an external hard drive for this project so I haven't added any new heavy files onto the computer. They're all on the hard drive.
It's a bit vague but basically how can I avoid it creating duplicates and has anyone else experienced this problem, as to why it's so slow. It may be an actual software issue in which case I'll find out next week. But in the mean time...

Thanks everyone for responding. I've actually been away from my computer for the whole weekend so haven't been looking at this forum that I only posted on Friday morning. Actually had a heck of a lot else to deal with this weekend so maybe Innocentius and Russ I'd appreciate if you'd keep your rather irritating remarks to yourself. It's been two days.
I'm using Final Cut Pro 10.1.1. The system is OS X 10.9.2.
I've attached a screen shot of the details of my computer and a shot of final Cut Pro. It's actually got to the point where I can hardly open final Cut pro because the whole computer seizes up as soon as it gets turned on.
It took five attempts and several hours to export the last project I did, kept saying the start up disk was full despite the fact I deleted whole folders of videos and then tried again. I'm not sure it's the computer but more the program.
Any help much appreciated. I am busy though and not always quick with my responses.
