Final Cut Pro X/Canon Vixia Import Time Different

Hi,
I have an annoying issue that I have not been able to figure out. I use a Canon Vixia M41 camera to record family videos in AVCHD. I usually import them directly off the card into Final Cut Pro X by first making an archive to store on another hard drive, and then import the actual clips into the library.
Everything works fine and seems to have been working fine for a while, but I recently noticed that my import time on all of my clips is off an hour. Now, I first thought, okay, daylight savings time, so I went into my camera and checked the time and date settings. I manually adjust for daylight savings time, so I do not have anything in the camera making the DST change automatically.
When I looked in the camera, the date and time are perfect. When I look at the clips on the card and click to play them back on the actual camera, the date and time are perfect there too; however, when I import those clips into Final Cut, the time on all of them are off by one hour. They are ahead an hour, so instead of 5 am, it's 6 am.
I know I can adjust the time in Final Cut, but I would like to know why the time is right on the camera and the clips on the camera, but import wrong when brought into Final Cut. I don't want to have to always check to adjust everything I bring into the application.
Any ideas? I am willing to test out anything. I have also noticed that it has been doing this for a while now and I didn't notice.
Thanks!

Canon Vixia M41 recording AVCHD

I've been running FCPX from version 10.0.1 up to the latest, and I spent some time puzzling why the time on imported files from my Panasonic SD700 were always an hour out. I tried several experiments setting the daylight savings on or off and adjusting the set time on the camera but FCPX always got it 1 hour wrong. This was despite the fact that the date/time on the raw video file in Finder was correct.
In the end I just had to accept that it was always going to be an hour out and either set the camera clock 1 hour back or take a short clip of the time on my phone so I could batch adjust the clips later! I can only assume FCPX gets its time from the metadata in the file structure and that some manufacturers' implementations confuse it!

  • Update to 6.0.5 (Final Cut Pro), in relations to importing the fcp file

Hello, I have a question. The final cut pro file, logged and captured, from different version of final cut pro (I asked the person who did log and capture and she would say it would be the newest version, but would not know exactly what version that would be, so I assume it was 6.0.5), refuses to be opened when I tried to open (import) it in my final cut pro, which is 6.0.1. I tried so many times to update it to 6.0.5, both through "Pro...04" and "...05", it still remains 6.0.1. And it keeps refusing to open the file and says, "File is too new for this version of the application." I even updated all soft wares through the apple for my computer and also quick time player. Could anyone please help me, I will appreciate it.

The updater is expecting a file called Final Cut Pro.app located in /Applications. If you moved the file to a different folder or renamed it, the old one will not be replaced and you'll end up with two files - the old one and the new one.
If you added a shortcut to your dock, that will still be pointing to the old one so any attempts to launch FCP will launch the old copy. So just delete the old one and create a new shortcut to the newer one, which will be called Final Cut Pro.app inside the /Applications folder.

  • How do i get final cut pro x to recognize my time capsule in event library

how do i get final cut pro x to recognize my time capsule in event library?

Yeah I'm getting the same issue.  I purchased a new Mac Mini yesterday purely to use the new FCPX, and now on day 1 I'm already running into problems... please don't make me switch to Premiere.
Set up the computer with external yesterday, never set anything to Time Machine.  Here's a screenshot of the drive, formatted on Mac OS Extended (Journaled):
And here's a screenshot of FCPX not recognizing the drive:
Apple please respond to this post, would really appreciate some help here troubleshooting.

  • Why does my final cut pro is not responding every time I open it????!!!!!!

why does my final cut pro is not responding every time I open it?

As you give no background info nobody can possibly guess.
However, have you tried trashing the preferences?
Many weird things happen as a result of corrupt preferences which can create a vast range of different symptoms, so whenever FCP X stops working properly in any way, trashing the preferences should be the first thing you do using this free app.
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
Shut down FCP X, open PreferenceManager and in the window that appears:-
    1. Ensure that only  FCP X  is selected.
    2. Click Trash
The job is done instantly and you can re-open FCP X.
There is absolutely no danger in trashing preferences and you can do it as often as you like.
The preferences are kept separately from FCP X and if there aren't any when FCP X opens it automatically creates new ones  .  .  .  instantly.

  • TS3843 Final Cut Pro X now crashes each time I try to open a project I was working on.  Any suggestions for help?

I was working successfully on a video project using Final Cut Pro X today when it crashed suddenly and now it crashes each time I open the project.  I have tried shutting down the computer and restarting, clearing the PRam (something I did long ago and just remembered).  It won't fire up.  Frustrating indeed since I need to finish this project asap.  I have 10.6.8 OS  X, a Mac Pro 1,1 ,   5 gig of ram, 2x2.66 GHz dual core Intel Xeon .   Hope someone can help me out to get the software operating again.    I'm using an external 2T HD that holds the files there.  Thanks!

I see that the FCP X event is on my external 2T HD but not in the folder with the video files.  I highlighted the file in FCPX and got the info saying where it was located.   I also see that the project is not on the 2THD  but on the main tower HD in the FCP projects folder.  Should I drag that project to the 2THD from the main tower computer? Put it where?
As for the media files linked to the events, I found a pull down menu that asked to link the events to the project and I did that but the project still crashes when I go to play it.
I guess I need a step by step refresher on how to begin a project and link everything properly so this doesn't happen again.
    Thanks!

  • Final cut pro 7 and AVCHD import ?

Just got Final Cut Pro 7 and I can't see wether or not that it is able to import natively Sony AVCHD video. I know its probably just me, so much there to see and learn.

    Hi -
In FInal Cut Pro, go to the Help menu and open Final Cut Pro Help.
Once it is open, search for "Working with AVCHD".
The chapter will tell you all you need to know.

  • Final Cut Pro X Bombing on Import Screen

    Hi everyone
    Using Final Cut Pro 10.0.9
When tyring to import media using the Import Option in FCP it just bombs out. You do get to see the import window for about 10 seconds.
I delete the .plist files for the user but had no luck. Does anyone have a suggestion what I could try please
Just to report this seems to be doing it for just one particular user......not for anyone else. It's only happening on the Import screen.
Also tried to repair the disk permissions.........no luck
I've found that you can drag a picture from the desktop onto the purple event column/ icons and the pictures will import.......so it's something afoot with the Import window itself......hmmmmm......anyone had this problem before?
    Cheers - Mike

  • Final Cut Pro Trial doesn't import correctly from iMovie

I am trying the trial version of Final Cut Pro.
I am trying to import iMovie Projects into Final Cut Pro.
When I do so, no clips import (they are all still photos) and sometimes the sound imports and sometimes it doesn't.
Is this just because it is a trial version? Does this work normally in Final Cut Pro?
My end goal is to create a DVD.

They are all in a folder on my Mac.
What fodler? Are they in iMovie Events?
aren't the free tracks in iMovie/Gargage Band/etc, free of copyright?
Yes, but FCP won't link to them if they're not in events.
You should finish these projects in iMovie.

  • Final Cut Pro X is not importing in full quality?

    Hi,
I recently installed Final Cut Pro X and so far I'm really enjoying it.
The only problem is that it's not importing my footage in 1080p. I have the Panisonic NV-GS400 (a tape based camera) which records at full 1080p.
But for some reason it is imported at 720p in Final Cut Pro X.
Please help me as I need to start editing a project soon.
    Thank-you

  • Exporting a final cut pro movie to a quick time

I'm trying to export a final cut movie from Final Cut Pro 5.1 to a Quick Time, this is a 2 hours movie and after couple hours it converts my movie into 13 Quick Time files (2GB each) instead of just 1 file of 25 GB.
Do you thing that I have to change any settings or is it any other way that I can get just 1 QT file?

    What is your export codec?
    Isn't there a 2 GB limit for MPEG-2 format?
What is your goal? Where will the file be viewed or used?
A 2 hour DV file would also be about 25 GB's. Use DV Stream as your export codec if it fits the source file and your needs.

  • Final Cut Pro X crashes all the time

    Hi,
Today I bought FCPX 10.0.7 but it crashes at least every 5 minutes within the easiest and basic tasks.
I use a brand new Mac mini, Quad Core i7, 8Gb RAM and with Fusion Drive. Are there any known issues with this setup? Anyoneelse is having the same troubles? Is there a chance to get refund? I didn´t expect this when buying software from apple.
The first few time is got the error message where I can send a diagnose to apple, but now there is nothing it just terminates without any warnings...

4GB of memory. That is really cutting it close.
Per APPLE......... 2GB of RAM (4GB of RAM recommended).
Even with 4GB I have seen issues
What I noticed with my set up and some people feel differently but I don't click Optimized Media or Use Proxy media upon import and now it does not crash any more
I have 8GB in a MAC PRO and even after 10 minutes of editing a small timeline, I show 1 GB of memory available and that is with no other applications open.  I have to use "PURGE" and then go back to editing

  • Final Cut PRo and Canon 5d Mark II Help Please

Hey guys working with HD video I shot with the Canon 5D Mark II. In playback on the time line the video appears jumpy and sticks at transition point between two clips. However when I output to a movie everything is fine. Just annoying in the editing process. Thanks

    Ray:
That cam I believe shoot h.264 video. That is a delivery format, not an editing format.
It needs to be converted to an HD editing format.
Try pro res or pro res HQ. Open the clips in the QT Pro player and export, or use Compressor.

  • Final Cut Pro x - canon 5d mk iii - file convert?

I'm currently just getting the files off the memory card and importing them straight into FCP X. I've seen a few posts about converting files to Prores 422 first when using FCP 7 but I am assuming I need not do this with FCP X?
I'm trying to get the best out of clips and struggling with quality a bit (seeing the interlacing on playback issue in FCP X but not tried a full export yet) so I'd like to put together an ideal workflow...for me at least :-)

    The Popper wrote:
...and you'll be looking at feature film quality results - promise.
Mmm, not quite. You had me up until the "feature film" quality bit...
Sure, these cameras shoot really nice footage. No question. However, the people that are executing the best results are those that are well aware of the limitations of these cameras and are doing what's necessary to cope with these issues, while on set. There are certainly things to be aware of with the DSLR footage: moiring, aliasing, rolling shutter and general image softening. come to mind. There can also be artifacts from the H.264 compression that often comes to light once you start trying to grade the footage beyond the most modest amount.
If these cameras cost $15,000 then no one would be talking about how amazing they are. Part of the fashion of shooting with these DSLR's right now is cost: they're cheap to buy/rent/use. But "feature film" quality? Sorry, not in my book. Unless you consider movies like "The Blair Witch Project" and "Paranormal Activity" to be feature quality. (Both of these, and I'm sure other 'low budget' films, were shot on small/cheap camcorders.)
Maybe I'm one of the few folks that puts a premium on image fidelity while most other folks are embracing the concept of "good enough".
    Just my 2¢ here...
