Final Cut Pro X does not open

Final Cut Pro X goes through the motions of launching then I a window opens up but doesn't populate with anything...it's just a blank dark grey window.  I tried uninstalling (dragging icon to trash) and reinstalling but it didn't work.

Try trashing the preference files.
Lots of different symptoms can be cured by trashing these files, so it should be the first thing you try when FCP  behaves strangely in any way.
To do it manually is very simple.
Close FCP X if it is open.
Navigate your way to Users>Library>Preferences
Then make sure the preference folder is in List View and the Name column is selected as this makes it easier to find the 2 files you need to trash.
Drag the 2 files I have outlined in red to the trash.
Click this image to enlarge it for clarity.
Then launch FCP X and it will create new preferences and hopefully it will make things better.
That's all  .  .  .  .   it won't take a minute and may work wonders.

  • Why Final Cut Pro Trial does not save works?

Hello, I downloaded the trial version of Final Cut Pro yesterday. Seems interesting, but does not save any work I do. Does this depend on the fact that it's a ''trial''?  thanks  (I use a MacBookPro3,1, with OS 10.6.8). Thanks

    thanks Ian,
I discovered that the problem comes from a corruption of the desktop database, which I repaired with DiskWarrior. Unfortunately it occurred again, two more times and now, the third, this trick is not working. I realized the projecs files are saved in user>films>Final Cut Projects but I cant't find the way to make FCP recognize ad ''see'' them....

  • Final Cut Pro X will not open:  Asking to "restore windows"???

    Hey guys,
I have restarted, updated and done everything I can to get Final Cut Pro X (10.0.1) to open and I keep getting this alert >>> PHOTOBUCKET.  I have done nothing new to my hardware or software (other than apples updates) since installing it a month ago from the app store.
The alert keeps asking me to either "Don't Restore Windows" or to "Restore Windows" and I clicked on both numerous times and I still get the "Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly" alert which looks like this >>> PHOTOBUCKET after about 10 seconds of selecting either option.
    Any ideas?  -Joe

Have you tried trashing your preferences?
Unexplained faults like this can often be fixed by clearing out FCP X's preferences (for some reason, they get knotted up from time to time).
Download Digital Rebellion's Preference Manager (free, simple to use, and perfectly safe, both to download and use).
With Preference Manager, you can backup the Prefs first, then if trashing makes no difference, you can restore all your settings.
If you trash them and don't restore them, you will need to manually restore all your FCP X settings again, so it's a great idea to backup Preferences from time to time when FCP X is working well, then if they get corrupted you can ditch the bad prefs and restore from your (Digital Rebellion) backup.
Can't guarantee it, but it's worth a try.

  • TS4169 Final Cut Pro X will not open

does anyone know of another solution? i have tried this and it still wont open. I also reinstalled the software but this didnt help either.
    thanks

are you getting the "restoring window layout" dialog?
If so go to library>preferences and delete delete com.apple.FinalCut.plist
and see if that works.  it worked for me.
I learned that custom keyboard layouts will cause this hang.  when quitting fcpx revert to default keyboard layout before quitting.

  • Final Cut Pro suddenly will not open

    Hello Everyone,
I have done a search and I found a couple of threads realating to my issue, but none with solutions. I have posted my experiences there, but would like to start a new thread for my specific issue.
I run FCP 5.1.4 on a G4 Powerbook. I use an external Lacie little bigDisk as my scratch disk. It's 250GB/FW800 and there is over 100GB free space.
I have been using it all week working on a project and there have been no problems at all.
Last night while closing the app down I noticed that the FCP icon was still registering as open in the apps bar. I had to force quit to close it.
When I tried to open up FCP tonight, I was presented with a window that claimed my scratch disk had gone offline. I checked everything and all should have been well.
I backed all my data up, and then reset the scratch disk. I hit continue, but that was as far as it went. It just disappeared. I cannot get it to open. The load screen appears and looks like it's loading up, but then it disappears just as quickly. If I disconect my external drive, I get the same message again stating that the scratch disk has gone offline, but even if I set it to my primary drive, it still won't open.
The only thing I've done lately was to delete some back up files from my idisk. They don't relate to my current project. I can't see how that could affect it, but as it was done around the same time I thought I should mention it.
I checked my Primary disk and external disk using Disk Utility and it reported minor problems. I check quite regularly and these are new. Using an external drive as the start up disk I repaired them and they now show as fine.
I haven't yet deleted the preferences.
    Thanks for any help,
    Philip

I don't know exactly what causes preference files to become corrupt, but the symptoms that you described in great detail in your original post helped me properly understand that the problem you were experiencing was most likely a preference problem. The symptoms you described are very similar to what happens to our edit suites when preference files go bad.
I'm glad you found a solution. Also, thank you for the detail you put into your original question, that is somewhat rare, but is essential to proper troubleshooting. Let us know if there's anything else we can help you with.
    Take care.

  • Final Cut Pro X will not open

Stuck on splash logo saying 'reading XXXXX event'. forever. Any ideas?

I have already done that, and it did not work. I also deleted the app and re-installed it from the app store, and when I launced the replacement app, it just got stuck on the splash screen again, with the same message 'Reading XXXX event'. Getting very frustrated, especially after dropping $300 for this piece of garbage

    Maybe in the next version?

I have a project that crashed on me when I was about to finish it. When I try to reopen Final Cut Pro it wouldn't open until I took the project out of the Final Cut Project folder. Can somebody tell me if this is a problem that has a solution? I cannot go back to the project at all.

If you are using 10.0.3 or above Apple added a backups folder that for a little extra protection in cases like this. If you quite FCPX go to your Final Cut Pro Projects folder. Find the folder that has the project in question. If it has a backups folder there should be a file with a date stamp and .fcpproject extention, that is your back-up. Just move the back-up from that folder one folder up to the place where you deleted CurrentVersion.fcpproject from.  When I have had to do this I haven't renamed the backup but some people to recomend that you rename it to CurrentVersion.fcpproject and it seems to work both ways. Ofcourse it wont work if there is already a CurrenVersion file there you will need to delete that one first.
If you don't have the backups folder or there is nothing in it I am not sure if there is anything that can be done.

  • Installed a ATI Radeon HD 5770, now Final Cut Pro won't even open - says 0mb Vram?

Installed a ATI Radeon HD 5770, now Final Cut Pro won't even open - says 0mb Vram?  Only dvi port work the two mini's not at all.  Bad card?  Macpro 3,1

I would guess there is a a corrupt media in the project. You could also try to copy a part of it to new project which is shorter and see what happens. 5 Hours is extremely long. Best to divide it to smaller sections.

  • Send to - Final Cut Pro XML data not seeing my Color render

    Sup folks,
As always I did some lurking on these boards and consulted the manual about this issue.
    Nada.
I've rendered my shots. They were all queued. They were all rendered.
When I use the Send to -> Final Cut Pro command I get the "not all your clips were rendered" warning. I click yes to see what I will get.
FCP imports the XML data and I get nothing. All of the clips in my FCP timeline generated through the Send to -> Final Cut Pro command are all of my original media prior to my color workflow. Not my graded Color renders.
I did move my renders from a local drive to an external because of data capacity. After doing so I did update my Media, Render and Project paths to the new location of my media.
I thought that would fix my problem. It didnt.
So again: my issue is that even with my shots all rendered correctly (i checked them in QT) the XML being sent to FCP through the Send to -> Final Cut Pro command is not hooking up with my renders.
    Deadline tomorrow.
    As always,thanks for your time

I did move my renders from a local drive to an external because of data capacity. After doing so I did >update my Media, Render and Project paths to the new location of my media.
If I'm following the sequence correctly, you rendered your material to a local drive. Then you moved it, changed the paths (in COLOR), and then tried to "Send to... FCP". Is this correct? If so, doomed to failure. In your case, you may have even moved an empty folder.
There is an ironclad and non-negotiable series of events in rendering and initiating the roundtrip. Many users regard this as a "bug". One of the first things that a user should always do is set up all the target paths before even doing the first grade. But it is essential that the target render path be set up PRIOR to loading the Render Queue. COLOR creates the receiving folder at that time, and that is where the media will go no matter what you do after the RenderQueue is loaded. Change the path, change the format... change whatever you want... the deal has been done, and all will be ignored. However, once the media is rendered and you choose Send To... FCP, then the original XML that FCP sent will be modified by COLOR and passed back to Final Cut. COLOR does NOT,repeat, NOT generate EDLs, XMLs, or any of that stuff. It only modifies original lists. That you modified the Media, Render and Project paths (probably only in the User Preferences tab) is meaningless once the project has been rendered. The Render path for this individual project is determined in the Project Settings pane, along with the render dimensions and format. However, COLOR will observe a path change AFTER the render, and edits the XML re-export to try to find the media in the newly named directory. Of course, your media is actually elsewhere, and you get a blank sequence.
Lastly, make sure that you SAVE the project after renders, to retain the "rendered" clip status -- or COLOR won't remember any of this.

  • Premiere Pro CC does not open MOD files correctly

    Hi,
I just started using the Adobe Creative Cloud as a trial, in particular the Premiere Pro CC software, since it might be relevant, I am working on a mac (completely updated as of yesterday).
I have a JVC GZ-MG505 camcorder. This device saves the video files on an internal HDD in a file format called MOD. From what I have been able to see when searching on the web, this should be nothing more than a MPEG-2 file.
So, I tried importing some video files into Premiere Pro and to my surprise, I noticed that a whole strip on the right hand side of the image is missing. The original is recorded in a widescreen (16:9) format with 720x576 pixels and Premiere Pro gives me a file with 540x576 pixels. I have tried using the Interpret Footage to change this, but it doesn't let me change the number of pixels. I also tried opening the files in Adobe Media Encoder and I have exactly the same results as in Premiere Pro. However, opening the files in VLC or mPlayer they come out exactly as expected with all the pixels there. Has anyone come accross this problem before or can anyone help me with solving this?
I could try reencoding the files with VLC, but the output file is much smaller than the input file, so I am afraid I am loosing some definition.
So, just to restate my problem, the adobe products open my MOD files without complaining, but for some reason they loose a strip 180 pixels wide on the right hand side of the image.
    Cheers

Premiere Pro CC does not open MOD files correctly
That is correct: there is a bug in CC. In CS6 they work correctly.
    Please file a bug report.

search for mod files and you will find one or two other threads.

  • My Final Cut Pro 7 won't open! Help!

    Hey!
So I've had FCP 7 for awhile now and it's been working perfectly!
But then a week ago I tried to open it and
it spends a couple of seconds starting up then comes up with,
' Unable to locate the following external devices:
    Apple FireWire NTSC (720 x 480)
Your system configuration may have changed, or your deck/ camera may be disconnected or tuned off.
Please check your connections and click 'Check Again', or click 'Continue' to set external device selection to None.'
    But I don't have a camera/device that is connected?
I've tried to click 'Check Again' but nothing happens...
and when I click 'Continue' this pops up:
    Non-Writable Scratch Disks
One or more of the scratch disks you have specified does not have read/write access.
To preserve the integrity of the data used by Final Cut Pro, it is necessary to ensure read/write access to the following:
    Macintosh HD/Users/haleighdoyle/Desktop/External Drive/Documents
And the only option is for me to reset my scratch disks. And then it pops up saying that:
One or more of your chosen scratch disks cannot be found. Please verify your current selection in the scratch disks preferences.
    And THEN this pops up...
PLEASE HELP ME! I'm not too sure what to do now.
    Thank you!
