Final Cut Pro X edit 1080i 60?

There are no pre-sets for FCPX to create a project in 1080i 60.  Unfortunately, my Canon doesnt shoot in 60p.  What do you think is the best way to go since I shoot a lot of sports and 60 frames seems to look a whole lot better than 30. Thx

Sure you can edit a 1080i project. Either dro your clip on the timeline and let FCP choose.
Or use the custom setting.

  • Can I capture with Final Cut Pro and edit in Premiere Pro?

Since it appears that Premiere has issues with capture - at least for me but as I see it for others as well - and that I can capture with iMovie, can I consider using Final Cut Pro for capture - then cross to Adobe Premiere and the suite for editing, finalizing ? Or is there a problem to copy the shots/files from one program to the other (would they remain identified clearly so I could just import shots into Premiere afterward ?)
    Thanks
    Rob

    Hi Rob,
When you capture HDV in FCP it creates a specific Apple HDV codec. This is a codec that is only available if FCP, Motion or Compressor is installed.
The two workarounds would be to use Premiere Pro on the Mac with one of the above mentioned apps installed on the same system or convert to a codec that can be read in Premiere.

  • Final Cut Pro transitions edit window problem

I am totally new to Final Cut Pro and when I click on the transition from the timeline the transition window appears in the canvas window but the bottom half of the transition edit window does not appear. Any ideas? It shows the transition down the the bar with start and end and then bellow that it's all gray.

Figured it out on my own... sorry to bother you guys.

  • Hauppauge HD PVR (recorded on PC) to Final Cut Pro X (edited on Mac)?

I just purchased my Hauppague HD PVR and I am given only three options for recording (btw I record from my Xbox 360). The first option is TS. The second option is M2TS. And the third option is MP4 (this option only records in 720x480 instead of 1280x720 so I do not get the entire screen and thus is IMPOSSIBLE to record with).
So I take these files from my PC (in my living room next to my TV) into my bedroom (onto my iMac) to edit in Final Cut Pro X. The problem is that Final Cut Pro X does not read TS or M2TS files (I also tried Compressor 4). So my question is, is there any way (short of re-encoding) to get Final Cut Pro X to read the files? I am dealing with files that are upwards of 1hr+ and to re-encode them into MOV or something similar it takes 5x as long as the video itself, then I have to render the final product again (total time from recording to finish product could be 12hrs). For me this is just too much time, can anyone help?

I second the recommendation to use MPEG Streamclip. It is free and very flexible.
It will let you export parts of the video separately, if you want - by setting in and out points, nondestructively. This will make it easier for you to handle things, as:
    1) You don't have to do a long export all at once (and wait several hours)
    2) You can handle smaller clips inside FCP X, which will likely be less memory intensive and result in better performance.

  • Final Cut Pro Problem - editing between different computers

    Hey guys,
I created a final cut project on another computer but no longer have access to clips. So every time I try to open the project the video it doesn't render the footage on the timeline and it asks for the location of the original clips. My question is, how can I edit the project without having access to the original clips?
    Thanks

If I understand you correctly, you have moved the project but not the media the project used?
Then the answer is - you can't.
You need to have the original media files (or complete copies of the original media files accesible to your new computer) in order to edit the project.

  • Is a portable firewire drive ok for final cut pro x editing?

I have heard in the past that the portable drives are not OK as they have no fan and my overheat; however, I am trying to become more flexible and would like a drive I can easily take with me when not working on my desktop.

Yelp. You'll be fine. In fact firewire 800 drives transfer data faster than the internal hard drive you have computer anyways/

  • Final cut pro x/DVD studio pro

A need an advice, I been using Final cut pro to edit my professional wedding videos and DVD studio pro to burn and make menus, can anyone recommend me another professional software to to create menus and burn DVD, my mac has an dvd drive built in, if I buy an external DVD burner drive, would I get better quality (on standard DVD's)

I don't know why you want to change because Studio Pro is about the best software available.
An external burner will have no effect on the quality of the DVDs.
If you burn large numbers of DVDs an external burner might save wear and tear on your built in one.

  • Final Cut Pro to iDVD

I am using Final Cut Pro to edit video which I am then burning to disk using iDVD. What is the best compression format to use in my settings H.264, DV/PRO NTSC, or some other? I have been using DV?pro NTSC but it seems to take a long time to encode a disk.

Well, iDVD expects a DV file. If you are using some other format within FCP, I would edit in the native format (IE, if using DVPro 50, some version of uncompressed etc) and then export out of FC as a QT DV movie. This might take a little time if you are going from a higher quality codec down to DV. If you started with DV, this won't take much time at all unless you are making the movie self-contained. iDVD takes your DV QT file and compresses it to the MPEG 2 format for DVD playback. The compression stage takes quite a bit of time and is very processor intensive. On my old G4 iMac 800, a 90 minute segment could take up to 12-16 hours to compress. Duals will compress much quicker.

  • What is the best Youtube video converter for Final Cut Pro?

I want to keep the quality of the video and import into Final Cut Pro to edit. What is the best way to get the video in the correct format?

    I've used FastestTube
    http://fastesttube.kwizzu.com/
usually this allows you to download the files as MP4 files in either 360p or 720p, or as FLV files
I would download as 720p MP4 & convert in compressor to prores, etc for FCP.

  • Xsan and Final Cut Pro Setup

Hello All, I am setting up an Xsan system to be used for Final Cut Pro HD editing. I have 2 full XRAIDs using 400 gb disks. I will have 2 PowerMac G5 editing stations. All connected together using a SanBox 5200 switch and a gigabit ethernet switch for the network.
I would like some feedback on RAID setup.
I plan on creating a 2 disk Metadata array using RAID 0, the remaining 4 disks on the controller ( one hot spare) will be used as an ingestion area for HD video data. I am planning on setting this up as RAID 0 as well. My thinking here is that I dont need the redundancy in the Ingestion volume because we will keep the original HD tapes that the data was ingested from. The hot spare will provide a very small amount of protection to the 2 RAID 0 arrays on this controller. On the other side of the XRAID I will build a 6 disk RAID 5 array for the production files. The other XRAID will be setup as 2 additional 6 disk RAID 5 production arrays. All of the production arrays will be added to a storage pool and a volume created from the pool.
Is this the preffered method? what would you do or have done? Any drawbacks to the method I described. Does a volume built from RAID 5 arrays and hosted on 3 controllers have enough speed for HD editing? Any experiences shared is helpful info.
    Thanks.
    Eric

    Eric,
First, I'd recommend you spend the $15 and pick up "The Xsan Quick-Reference Guide" by PeachPit press. It goes into a fair bit of detail on recommended configurations.
Second, I'm going to assume you meant a 2-disk RAID 1 for metadata. RAID 0 would be useless for this purpose -- Metadata isn't high-bandwidth, and you NEED protection from it. Lose your metadata volume, lose your SAN. It's that simple. So use a RAID 1 mirror for it.
Also, for ingest, I'd recommend RAID 5. RAID 5 is the same speed as RAID 0, and it has protection.
Note that a hot spare is absolutely worthless when you're dealing with RAID 0. It will give you no protection -- when a disk in RAID 0 fails, the game is over. No restoration is possible on the hot spare -- there is no parity data that can be used to reconstruct the data.
So I'd do a 2-disk RAID 1 for metadata, and either 4 or 5 disks RAID 5 for ingest (depending on if you want a hot spare). Note, that you will not be able to ingest uncompressed HD onto this volume -- the bandwidth required is way too high. You could do DVCPRO-HD, perhaps.
If you set up 3 controllers as "6-disk RAID 5 + hot spare," your available bandwidth should be in the 200-240 MB/sec range, which is sufficient for HD editing. It will only be sufficient for one user at a time, of course, and you'd want to avoid having someone do big file copies on the SAN while the editing is taking place.

  • Very disappointed with G5 and Final Cut Pro

At work we bought a G5 last year for Final Cut Pro to edit plain DV video downloaded from a MiniDV camcorder via Firewire. The machine has 4gig memory, 6800 graphics, and is running FCP 5.0 with all of the Software Updates installed. The G5 is supposed to replace a much older PC that is running Adobe Premiere 2.0 on Windows XP. Even though the PC only has a single Pentium 4 CPU and older ATI X800 graphics, it does FAR more real-time effects than Final Cut Pro does on the G5. Why is this?? Almost everything I do, from titles to minor effects will appear instantly on Premiere Pro, real-time, no rendering needed. But almost everything I do on the G5 will show me a big red X until it has rendered. If I add a title, I still have to wait for it to render. If I add a light blur effect, I still have to wait for it to render. This is very annyoing and very depressing, we spent a lot of money on the G5. In reality, at least for us, it is slower than the older PC it is supposed to replace forcing us to spend a lot of time staring at those big red X'es while Final Cut Pro renders.
Are we doing something wrong? Or is this the case with all dual processor G5s running Final Cut Pro 5.0?? Is there anything we can do to speed up rendering or enable actual real-time effects/titles?

    Welcome to the family.

Simple failure to understand your new tools. Open the manual, run the tutorials. Study carefully the sections on how to set up all of your preferences for DV. It's easy and when you're done you're going to feel really silly.
If your company intends to make money with FCP you must invest time to understand what you bought since you bought it without bothering to test drive FCP on a G5. If you liked Premiere on Windows, you may never enjoy using FCP on Macintosh. The switch can be devastating. You could be one of those poor souls who just doesn't get it. Turn your system over to a more open minded person on your staff.

  • Converting Final Cut Express to Final Cut Pro

Is it possible to open a final cut express file in final cut pro and edit it using the pro appilcation?

Really!! That's what the guy at the Apple store told me too, so I bought FCE 3.5. But, when I tried to open a FCE 3.5 timeline in FCP 4.5, it DIDN'T WORK. I got some error message about the file being too new for FCP to open.
Is there some trick that I don't know about? I'm working on a project this week for a client and it has a pretty quick turnaround. I would appreciate a solution to this if there is one.

  • Why don't these videos show up in Final Cut Pro X?

Okay so I am very new to my iMac and to using final cut pro for editing. I have been using Premiere Pro for a while so im not new to this type of software. However i cannot work out why Final Cut Pro won't show me the video to these clips. It plays the clip fine and the Audio works so i can hear it playing, Just nothing gets displayed on the icon, or in the preview screen.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!!

Your screen shot didn't load. Not sure what you were trying to show but you need to give the exact specs of the media as they appear in the movie inspector of the QuickTime player.
