Final Cut Pro X: How to not get it to crash.

Most times when I use Final Cut Pro X, sometimes it crashes and I have no idea how it is doing that. Can you please do something that can help me stop Final Cut Pro X from crashing?

I found out that, according to digibudII, the maximum amount of RAM could be 6GB on my iMac. Even though the 8GB RAM was recommended to help Final Cut Pro X from not crashing, it would not work in my model.
I did, however, find some Memory upgrades for the model:

  • I downloaded Final cut pro x, how do i get hard copy disks?

I recently downloaded Final Cut Pro X from the App store to my MacBook Pro (OS X-10.9.5). I need to move it and the projects to a different MBP in the office. Do I need the hardcopy disks in order to move the application? If so, how do I get them?

you can redownload the application from the app store using the same ID you used to purchase it originally at no charge.

  • Using final cut pro x how to fade to black

with final cut pro x, how do you fade to black?

    So, at this point I feel compelled to throw out a few 'pearls of wisdom' for the self-taught beginners who use this forum;
It IS a place to come for expert advice from a mix of enthusiasts and professionals, and yes, you can get problems solved here that you won't find answers to anywhere else (with the possible exception of Creative Cow). Some problems get answered better here than from Apple Support.
This does not mean that you (the beginner) are absolved from a little study on your own. BROWSE the forum a little before you ask a question - you may even discover something that you didn't even know that you didn't know.
Speaking of youtube; take a look at the Izzyvideo tutorial or some of the others posted there. Learn the basics, and then ask a question. If we are willing to take the time to answer questions, then you should (at least!) be willing to take the time to do a little research.
If you don't have the time to learn the software, HIRE an editor.

Final Cut Pro x how to export OMF?

As far as I understand, FCPX doesn't support OMF exports, unless something has changed recently. There are some workarounds that you can do, see this post. It looks a little cumbersome though. Hope that helps you further.

  • I cleared out a movie I made in final cut pro, now fcp will not open completely, I get the logo with all the names running through but never get timeline, browser or anything else?  Help!!  Larry

I removed a movie I had made and now when I try to open final cut pro, all the stuff shows up with the names, etc, but that is it, I don't get anything else, and, final cut does not show at the top of my computer.  I have the 27 inch iMac with the intel processor, any help will be appreciated.  Larry

Sounds like you may have deleted more than just the movie file.  It the FCP application in the Applications folder?  if so, try launching from there.  If not, you'll neeed to uninstall the app completely using this: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcsremover/  then reinstall from the original install discs.
You may want to first try trashing FCP's preferences.

  • AppleScript: Final Cut Pro X library does not open! FCP X AppleScript reference?

I am trying to automate a few things within Final Cut Pro X. In the Apple Script Editor, in the list of Dictionaries (Library Window), FCP X does show up. But when I click on "Open Dictionary", nothing happens. Any idea why and how I could get around this?
I would really like to know, which FCP X functions are available from AppleScript. Thus, I don't necessarily need the Dictionary in the AppleScript Editor. Any other list would do as well. But I can not find some.
I checked whether FCP X is actually supposed to have an AppleScript dictionary by using the script mentioned on this page
    http://books.gigatux.nl/mirror/applescript/0596008503/applescripttmm-chp-12.html
    The answer is yes.

I am trying to find out the same thing, Till have you found an answer to this? Can you contact me directly please as I'd like you to help me with scripting.

  • Final Cut Pro Academic Version Is not fully functional!

Could someone tell me if Final Cut Pro Academic is really functionally? I bought final cut pro academic and it appears that the program color does not work. The viewer in color doesn't work. Apple states that the only difference between academic and the normal version is that the academic version version is a non-upgradable version. But I don't believe this. I believe that you have to buy the standard version to get the full features. Could someone one tell me this is not so.

The academic version is Functionally 100% exactly the same. There are no differences feature wise.
The only difference is you can't use an upgrade with that serial #.

  • Final Cut Pro search window does not SORT.

I am an editor and I use Final Cut Pro everyday. I recently had to upgrade to LION because of a wonderful Quicktime update that corrupts
video codec files on Snow Leopard. So now that I have LION I can actually edit again. But, when I try to import files into Final Cut the
search window wont sort my files by date, name, etc...
It wont actually sort by anything. Every other program works fine for that, mainly After Effects. I have to manually go find files that I used
to give a certain naming system to because I could find them easily by typing in one word.
I also cannot search the Network anymore at my office which is a real pain. We dump all our finished projects onto a huge server. Now
when I need to find an old file I have to know the exact date it was made or else I have to go searching through every folder in our server.
Any body know of any way to fix these issues without having to rewrite code which I really don't want to do with my company computer.
Also our IT people refuse to learn anything at all about MAC computers which is SO helpful...

Im not sure what you are referring to. Maybe I didn't explain the problem correctly.
Final Cut seems as if it is not indexing the files. Most of the time it won't even show me dates (modified, created, etc...) just dashes. Then if I  do what you are describing and try to sort it at all it stays in the same exact order. I can't even sort alphabetically.

  • My files from final cut pro trial aren't transferring to final cut pro x - how do I fix this?

I had been making a video in the final cut pro trial and didn't realize my trial was going to run out as soon as it did that day. I downloaded final cut pro x and was planning on finishing up editing tonight, but none of my files from final cut pro trial transferred over to final cut pro x. Everywhere I have read online said they should transfer automatically, but that's not happening. Is there a fix?

you're tried using the 'Open Library' command?

  • If i edit in final cut pro x, how can i create a dvd

What is the best DVD creator to download to create DVDs  from movies edited in Final Cut Pro X?

iDVD gets my top vote - it is no longer available from Apple, but still part of the retail iLife 09 or 11 versions available from online resellers. It offers customizable menus/themes which will give your creation a professional look. It encodes/authors and you can burn directly from it.
Second is Roxio Toast (no customizable menus, but many other features and an excellent burn software).
I've tried DVD creator and found it to be too simplistic. Then there is Burn (free) - it burns.
I use iDVD to "create" and Toast to burn.

  • Final Cut Pro 5: How do i delete the preference files

Wen trashing prefrences, out of Final Cut Pro Obj Cache and Final Cut Pro Prof Cache what one do i trash?

Oddly enough, according to Apple's Knowledge Base article (for FCP 5), the answer is neither. <shrug> (this must be new for FCP 5)
Once you're done with that, go ahead and download FCP Rescue - graciously hosted by Patrick Sheffield - so you don't have to get your hands dirty the next time you're forced to do this.
edit: beaten to the punch by Mr. Sheffield!

  • I have final cut pro x, how can i copy my project to dvd

i have final cut pro x on my i mac, i creat a video project and would like to copy to dvd. how can i do that. thanks haidar

DVD should show as an option (destination) in the menu associated with Share.  To actually go to a DVD, there has to be a DVD burner connected to the Mac.
