Final Cut Pro X is KILLING me with the lagging! Please help!
All of my work takes about 6 times longer than necessary now that I am using Final Cut Pro X on a brand new MAC. Processoor is 3.5 Ghz, Intel i7, memory is 16G, 1600 MHZ.
I just don't understand the problem. I am working off an external G Drive with Thunderbolt - which, of course, I had to purchase since Mac did away with the Firewire where all of my previous work was located but that's another story...
I currently produce short 1 to 5 minute pieces for work but it's a nightmare trying to get them done. I can't imagine anyone being able to do a movie on this program. Should I just give up and go to a PC and Sony Vegas or learn Adobe? I like Final Cut Pro but it's litterally slowing me down and I cannot figure it out. We've spent a fortune at work on Macs and constantly changing software and cables and programs. I now just think Apple is MEAN. It's like they are out to torture us all.
We're missing some information here but I don't know what. Maybe you're doing a 6multicam edit? A typical iMac will have no problem with 5min edits using H264. You might trash FCP prefs..reinstall it...
If you have some data on your local drive and some on an external...or your external is nearly full.... or you have 20 different programs cranking away in the background...
There are things you can do to get FCPx to choke, but I have no idea what could be causing the slowdown. It's not FCPx itself....
Is it a legitimate, up to date copy of FCPx ? Do you have some nasty add-on installed on your computer...some anti virus program or could your new iMac still be working through the Spotlight checks, reading your hard drive? It's going to take some investigation but again, it's no a simple FCPx issue. Plenty of folks use it with no speed problems. You might simply optimize your clips and create proxies and go from there till you figure out what the issue really is.

Try downloaded FCP RESCUE and then click on TRASH. It will trash your preferences...that usually fixes stuff like this.

Can you transfer final cut pro x to another computer with the same apple account?
I want to get Final Cut Pro X right away so I can start editing videos for my youtube channel, but I'm am also planning to get a Macbook Pro for school this year. Is it possible for me to buy & use Final Cut Pro X on my current macbook now, and then later copy and/or transfer the application to my new computer? Both computers would be run by the same apple account. Thanks! Please reply.

I'm not sure of how many in total you can have, but you can have FCPX on both your computers you just can't use them at the same time.

I have a Macbook Air, still fairly new from July 4, 2014. Yesterday, I was editing some footage in Final Cut Pro, and the colored spinning circle kept popping up. I continuously forced the quit, as I couldn't do anything, and then I restarted and looked for updates (though there was none). I then deleted the app and reinstalled it, but it's still giving me the same problem. This morning, I created a new user account, and Final Cut Pro works on that account, but it took some time to find the exported video (I actually had to turn it off and turn it back on to find the video). Later today, I went onto the main account, where Final Cut Pro isn't working, and it's still giving me trouble, and then the Picture Preview program got stuck, as well, twice, where I had to also force it to quit. What's happening? How do I fix this problem?
The info given below might help but if it doesn't, I'm sure other people will give you useful suggestions.
Corrupt preferences can create a vast range of different symptoms, so whenever FCP X stops working properly in any way, trashing the preferences should be one of the first things you do using this free app.

Shut down FCP X, open PreferenceManager and in the window that appears:-
1. Ensure that FCP X is selected.
2. Click Trash
The job is done instantly and you can re-open FCP X. -
Final Cut Pro 10.0.4 Trial Just wont Work please Help
Ok i have tried everything and this tria just crashes. First of all let me tell you what i have done .
I have deleted all teh preference files.
I have deleted any and all events from my drive
I have run preference manager and deleted all files through that and it still crashes on start up
I have checked and verified my drive permissions
I have repaired my drive permissions and it still crashes
I have created a new account and tried running it and it crashes
I have installed OSX fresh on a new Drive and it still crashes at start up
I have tried changing out my video card and it still crashes
I have even tried installing Lion and the Updates and and it does the exact same thing..
I thought maybe it is because i was running an ATI 4890 But i took that out and put my GEFORCE 8800 back in and it still did the same thing.
I have run every hardware test i can on my machine and it comes up fine.. But this Final Cut Pro Trial crashes at boot up every time
I have never in my life had a problem with my machine or any software until now .. and this is really annoying I wont spend 300 dollars on a program that just doesnt work. .
it gets to the intro screen and says loading compressor support and then hangs for about 2 minutes then just crashes.

Everyone is in dire and imminent peril.
Well the internet forums are like that. People with problems are airing them and you only need to see a few complaints to get the impression they are affecting the bulk of users, when in truth it is merely a handful compared with the countless thousands of satisfied customers.
The bulk of problems is due to user error and most of the rest can be credited to conflicts occurring on particular systems.
Manufacturers do get it wrong but most of the time most of the complaints are usually unfounded or unfair.
It sounds as though there are aspects of your setup that are causing the problems.
Some people think that applications should be tested for conflicts before being released.
They are, but the infinite number of permutations of ways a computer and its apps can be set up makes it impossible to test against all eventualities.
Sorry, this isn't directed at you. I'm just airing my thoughts to the world (or at least, this miniscule forum) in general. -
Final Cut Pro unexpectedly quits due to FLV plugin. Please help!

I am trying to export from Final Cut Pro using Quicktime Conversion, but it keeps giving me the beachball, then crashing, with the following message:
The application Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly. The problem may have been caused by the FLV plug-in.

I downloaded the trial version of Final Cut Pro X yesterday (which is a .dmg file) and when i tried to open it, am message pops up saying it's not recognized. I tried duplication the file then repairing it using Utilities.. But it didn't work. Someone please help me.

Final Cut Pro 10.0.0.9 Crashes on Export -- PLEASE HELP!
Hello Everyone. I recently upgraded one of my user's mac pro tower to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard.
The user cannot export in any way. We've tried different projects and different users. Repairing permissions, deleting preferences and even a clean install of FCPX.

Recently purchased a Macbook Pro with screen of retina of 13,3 inches. My question is, can I install the new Final Cut Pro X , is capable of withstanding the app? Or that Final Cut is convenient to install?
Generally any Mac made since 2009 can handle FCP X.
Your small screen is not ideal unless you are young and have good vision.
However, you needn't ask whether or not your computer is suitable as you can find out yourself by downloading the free 30 day trial.

I'm going to save my old Hi8 tapes on a hard disk using final cut pro x, to save it for the future. But how shall I export it, and in what will be the best quality to save it in?
Hi Carsten...good luck with your project.. I had just about as many Video8 & Hi8 tapes as
you that I digitized and eventually brought into FCPX..took me many months not weeks
to do so,BTW, as each tape was 60-90 minutes in lenght...and many hundreds of
gigab ytes of storage ( uncompressed AVI files)..it's tedious work unless you plan to farm
it out to a processing house...also regarding eventual storage format...remember
Hi8 is 400 lines or about 540X480 in todays resoultion metrics..you can't make hi-def out
of source that starts out as 400 lines...in my case I rewrapped the avi files into .mov
containers and imported the mov files into FCPX where I got rid of the hundreds of
minutes of Colorado mountain landscapes to get to that one minute shot of the kids
on horseback ( late 80's for most of my archives)..so its a job..scouring thru 30X90 min
of source to not miss those precious memories takes diligence and hard work but its worth
it; eventually I encode the uncompressed video I want to save in H.264 format Staandard

There is no upgrade. It's a separate application.

when i open final cut pro x when it starts loding the projects it shows the spining beach ball and is stuck wat can i do?
Possible corrupted project or media fies. Here's what I'd suggest.
First trash preferences. If that doesn't work…
Move your Final Cut Projects folder into a folder named Hidden Folder. See if FCP then launches. If it doesn't hide your Final Cut Events folder. Once FCP launches successfuly, create a test event and project.
To track down the problem, successively move load events and projects from hideen to their proper location and open FCP. When and if you get the crash you have hopefully located the problem.
The easiest way to do this is to purchace Event Manager X ($5).

Final Cut Pro X Performance Killed
Yosemite has ABSOLUTELY KILLED performance on Final Cut Pro. Despite running 20 cores, 2 x GPUs and loads of RAM, whenever FCP renders in the background, everything comes to a near COMPLETE STOP. I have to wait for all the background rendering to finish before I can do anything. It is adding HOURS to even simple projects. The only way to fix it and be able to use the machine is to either WAIT for the grass to grow or quite FCP then everything is back to normal.
Thank you *&%%^#$% Yosemite for another &*%@^&#$ set of issues.Still nothing has changed. I called Apple Support and finally got someone to do something. However I'm the only one having this problem (of course) and their 'bright' solution is to try a different disk. Really?! Thanks for nothing.
Today rending a 5 minute video from optimized which after 4 hours got to 95% (before Yosemite would take around 5 mins) and stopped there. After an hour at 95% I guessed it was screwed again so I quit FCP and rebooted. After reboot, FCP had completely reset itself and when I reopened the library, it reported all kinds of missing assets. I opened the library in finder (show package contents) and everything is still there. Repair permissions (which are again screwed up) helped nothing. What the f*$#@???? I open the project and everything is there as it should be and the rendered result in the timeline looks fine. When I try to export a master, FCP warns that it will be rendered with missing assets however it FINALLY rendered out without any issues. Thank GOD. Free if wretched FCPX, I can take the master now and re-compress it in Compressor and finally get it loaded. I'm only 48 hours late on the deadline thanks to this ongoing S@$t.
Thanks Apple for F&%@*&g me. A whole Saturday wasted yet again. Yosemite be damned.
