Final Cut Pro X is not importing in full quality?

Hi,
I recently installed Final Cut Pro X and so far I'm really enjoying it.
The only problem is that it's not importing my footage in 1080p. I have the Panisonic NV-GS400 (a tape based camera) which records at full 1080p.
But for some reason it is imported at 720p in Final Cut Pro X.
Please help me as I need to start editing a project soon.
Thank-you

  • Send to - Final Cut Pro XML data not seeing my Color render

    Sup folks,
As always I did some lurking on these boards and consulted the manual about this issue.
    Nada.
I've rendered my shots. They were all queued. They were all rendered.
When I use the Send to -> Final Cut Pro command I get the "not all your clips were rendered" warning. I click yes to see what I will get.
FCP imports the XML data and I get nothing. All of the clips in my FCP timeline generated through the Send to -> Final Cut Pro command are all of my original media prior to my color workflow. Not my graded Color renders.
I did move my renders from a local drive to an external because of data capacity. After doing so I did update my Media, Render and Project paths to the new location of my media.
I thought that would fix my problem. It didnt.
So again: my issue is that even with my shots all rendered correctly (i checked them in QT) the XML being sent to FCP through the Send to -> Final Cut Pro command is not hooking up with my renders.
    Deadline tomorrow.
    As always,thanks for your time

I did move my renders from a local drive to an external because of data capacity. After doing so I did >update my Media, Render and Project paths to the new location of my media.
If I'm following the sequence correctly, you rendered your material to a local drive. Then you moved it, changed the paths (in COLOR), and then tried to "Send to... FCP". Is this correct? If so, doomed to failure. In your case, you may have even moved an empty folder.
There is an ironclad and non-negotiable series of events in rendering and initiating the roundtrip. Many users regard this as a "bug". One of the first things that a user should always do is set up all the target paths before even doing the first grade. But it is essential that the target render path be set up PRIOR to loading the Render Queue. COLOR creates the receiving folder at that time, and that is where the media will go no matter what you do after the RenderQueue is loaded. Change the path, change the format... change whatever you want... the deal has been done, and all will be ignored. However, once the media is rendered and you choose Send To... FCP, then the original XML that FCP sent will be modified by COLOR and passed back to Final Cut. COLOR does NOT,repeat, NOT generate EDLs, XMLs, or any of that stuff. It only modifies original lists. That you modified the Media, Render and Project paths (probably only in the User Preferences tab) is meaningless once the project has been rendered. The Render path for this individual project is determined in the Project Settings pane, along with the render dimensions and format. However, COLOR will observe a path change AFTER the render, and edits the XML re-export to try to find the media in the newly named directory. Of course, your media is actually elsewhere, and you get a blank sequence.
Lastly, make sure that you SAVE the project after renders, to retain the "rendered" clip status -- or COLOR won't remember any of this.

  • Final Cut Pro X/Canon Vixia Import Time Different

    Hi,
I have an annoying issue that I have not been able to figure out. I use a Canon Vixia M41 camera to record family videos in AVCHD. I usually import them directly off the card into Final Cut Pro X by first making an archive to store on another hard drive, and then import the actual clips into the library.
Everything works fine and seems to have been working fine for a while, but I recently noticed that my import time on all of my clips is off an hour. Now, I first thought, okay, daylight savings time, so I went into my camera and checked the time and date settings. I manually adjust for daylight savings time, so I do not have anything in the camera making the DST change automatically.
When I looked in the camera, the date and time are perfect. When I look at the clips on the card and click to play them back on the actual camera, the date and time are perfect there too; however, when I import those clips into Final Cut, the time on all of them are off by one hour. They are ahead an hour, so instead of 5 am, it's 6 am.
I know I can adjust the time in Final Cut, but I would like to know why the time is right on the camera and the clips on the camera, but import wrong when brought into Final Cut. I don't want to have to always check to adjust everything I bring into the application.
Any ideas? I am willing to test out anything. I have also noticed that it has been doing this for a while now and I didn't notice.
    Thanks!
Using Final Cut Pro 10.1.1 on 2009 Mac Pro (Nehalem) on OS 10.9.3
    Canon Vixia M41 recording AVCHD

I've been running FCPX from version 10.0.1 up to the latest, and I spent some time puzzling why the time on imported files from my Panasonic SD700 were always an hour out. I tried several experiments setting the daylight savings on or off and adjusting the set time on the camera but FCPX always got it 1 hour wrong. This was despite the fact that the date/time on the raw video file in Finder was correct.
In the end I just had to accept that it was always going to be an hour out and either set the camera clock 1 hour back or take a short clip of the time on my phone so I could batch adjust the clips later! I can only assume FCPX gets its time from the metadata in the file structure and that some manufacturers' implementations confuse it!

  • Update to 6.0.5 (Final Cut Pro), in relations to importing the fcp file

Hello, I have a question. The final cut pro file, logged and captured, from different version of final cut pro (I asked the person who did log and capture and she would say it would be the newest version, but would not know exactly what version that would be, so I assume it was 6.0.5), refuses to be opened when I tried to open (import) it in my final cut pro, which is 6.0.1. I tried so many times to update it to 6.0.5, both through "Pro...04" and "...05", it still remains 6.0.1. And it keeps refusing to open the file and says, "File is too new for this version of the application." I even updated all soft wares through the apple for my computer and also quick time player. Could anyone please help me, I will appreciate it.

The updater is expecting a file called Final Cut Pro.app located in /Applications. If you moved the file to a different folder or renamed it, the old one will not be replaced and you'll end up with two files - the old one and the new one.
If you added a shortcut to your dock, that will still be pointing to the old one so any attempts to launch FCP will launch the old copy. So just delete the old one and create a new shortcut to the newer one, which will be called Final Cut Pro.app inside the /Applications folder.

  • Final cut pro 7 and AVCHD import ?

Just got Final Cut Pro 7 and I can't see wether or not that it is able to import natively Sony AVCHD video. I know its probably just me, so much there to see and learn.

    Hi -
In FInal Cut Pro, go to the Help menu and open Final Cut Pro Help.
Once it is open, search for "Working with AVCHD".
The chapter will tell you all you need to know.

  • Final Cut Pro X Bombing on Import Screen

    Hi everyone
    Using Final Cut Pro 10.0.9
When tyring to import media using the Import Option in FCP it just bombs out. You do get to see the import window for about 10 seconds.
I delete the .plist files for the user but had no luck. Does anyone have a suggestion what I could try please
Just to report this seems to be doing it for just one particular user......not for anyone else. It's only happening on the Import screen.
Also tried to repair the disk permissions.........no luck
I've found that you can drag a picture from the desktop onto the purple event column/ icons and the pictures will import.......so it's something afoot with the Import window itself......hmmmmm......anyone had this problem before?
    Cheers - Mike

  • Final Cut Pro Trial doesn't import correctly from iMovie

I am trying the trial version of Final Cut Pro.
I am trying to import iMovie Projects into Final Cut Pro.
When I do so, no clips import (they are all still photos) and sometimes the sound imports and sometimes it doesn't.
Is this just because it is a trial version? Does this work normally in Final Cut Pro?
My end goal is to create a DVD.

They are all in a folder on my Mac.
What fodler? Are they in iMovie Events?
aren't the free tracks in iMovie/Gargage Band/etc, free of copyright?
Yes, but FCP won't link to them if they're not in events.
You should finish these projects in iMovie.

  • Final cut pro HD 2 not working with new updates

recently purchased a new imac. Most of my old programs were not supported. I updated to 10.9 from 10.5. Now, all the programs are running except Final Cut pro HD 2. I get a message sayin"power pc applications are no longer supported" Any suggestions? I read in an old discussion (from 2011) that I might need to download Rosetta?

    MichelPM wrote:

I do not know which version of FCP the OP is using as I do not recognize his designation of Final Cut Pro HD 2.
However, last weekend I attempted to install Final Cut Studio 2 (Final Cut Pro 6) into Snow Leopard installed in Parallels, as a test.  It failed!
Final Cut's installer suggested the following problems: not enough VRAM - 64 needed; 0 present (even though Parallels is set for more than the minimum required VRAM); and a missing video card.
I attempted to work around this problem by using Pacifist to install FCS2, which worked, as far as the installation was completed.  However, when I attemped to run FCS2, a dialog box came up with indicated that same two problems and then it quit.

  • Final Cut Pro 2nd monitor not working properly?

Been here before a long time ago, can't remember how it was resolved.
Working in a new edit suite, FCP Studio.  Two new Samsung monitors (not my choice).  I want one to be my playback monitor.
    I set:
Final Cut Pro > Audio/Video Settings
    > Digital Cinema Desktop Full Screen
    > View > External Video > All Frames
But all I'm getting is a black frame on the 2nd monitor.
They've also got one of those very flat alluminum keyboards ... where F12 becomes a sound control.  I'd love to know how I can change the function key to work as an FCP action / 2nd monitor toggling on and off.
That's two questions.  Would be most appreciative of an answer for either.
    Ben

    Hey Andy,
I did the first half of your suggestion, but not the second half.  Heading down to the studio this morning ... set up in a tiny white chapel looking out across the silvery North Atlantic ... and will try the second half of your suggestion.  Will also see if there are two graphics cards installed in the Mac Pro.  Will also check out the Window > Arrange in FCP (something I should have checked first off).
I talked to a filmmaker who previously worked on the system, only to discover he never uses the second monitor as a full screen, but rather as a large 'bin'.  Interesting.
If worse comes to worse and I can't solve it I suspect I could size the canvas window to super large and drag it over to the second monitor.
Will post back when I've tried the latest suggestions ...
    Thanks you mucho guys,
    Ben

  • Final Cut Pro Video Playback not in Widescreen for Anamorphic Material

I have a Panasonic DVX-100B hooked up to my computer and am running Final Cut Pro. I shot everything in the anamorphic squeeze mode. When I play this material back through my camera (which displays the material as widescreen because I forced it on the camera menu) it doesn't playback on the TV in widescreen, it stretches it back out vertically. Is there a setting in Final Cut that will send the signal as a 16:9 signal to the TV, so that it will understand it correctly?

    baadayakazi wrote:

No, FCP does not send out an anamorphic flag via firewire. What I mean is, it sends out the video to your deck simply as 720x480, without telling the deck (and therefore the monitor, as well) if that is supposed to be a 16:9 or 4:3 image. In order to monitor with the correct ratio, you'll need to have a monitor that can correct for aspect ratio.
If you're working on a pro monitor, it should have a 16:9 button (or menu setting, at least). Some recent - as in the last 4-5 years - consumers TVs also have an anamorphic squeeze feature that will compress the image vertically. If you've got a 16:9 TV, you'll need to use the stretch feature (of all things) to correct your preview image.
All that said, I'm guessing you fall into the last camp: you're previewing out to a consumer TV that cannot do vertical compression? If so, your only alternative is to nest your anamorphic sequence in a 4:3 one for preview purposes. Of course, this is needlessly cumbersome (and you run into the dreaded issues with nests failing to update every now-and-then) and requires more CPU horsepower. Either that or edit with the distorted image...
Or are you in a whole 'nother situation?

  • Ilife Sound Effects and Final Cut Pro Sounds are not appearing in Final Cut Pro X anymore!?

    Hello,
I am new to the app Final Cut Pro X. And recently when I have gone into the Music and Sound Folder in final cut pro the option for Ilife Sound Effects and FCPX Sound Effects do not appear. I have read other forums and they have said to drag the sound files into FCPX but that isn't even a option. It onlt has iTunes options, please reply back someone this is stressing me out. I don't know if it is because of Mavericks or whatever but it is driving me insane and I need help!
This is what it looks like .

This is a known issue in FCP X 10.1 and you will find many posts about it in the forum just do a search. Several solutions have worked for different users. Try the following:
    1. Open and close GarageBand then relaunch FCP
    2. Open and close iPhoto then relaunch FCP
    3. Close and reopen FCP
    4. Trash FCP preferences then relaunch FCP
Any one of these may work. Just try them in any order. Be aware the problem may recur.
