Final Cut Pro X problem

final cut pro x doesn't open my final cut pro files?
Does anyone know how I can fix this?

FCPX cannot open legacy FCP projects, if that's what you mean. There us no fix. The applications are entirely separate.

  • Final Cut Pro 7: problem creating Blu Ray disc

Hello, I've a problem using FInal Cut Pro 7. I want to create a Blu Ray disc using the "Share" function, but during the process - after many hours - appears this warning message: "SHARE WARNING - NSEXPETION RAISED BY 'NSPORT TIMEOUT EXCEPTION' REASON = CONNECTION TIMEOUT: DID NOT RECEIVE REPLY". Someone can help me? What does it mean? Thanks! P.S. Duration of my film (in the timeline): 35 minutes.

Yes. It will only burn Blu-Ray if it is the Pro version though.
Compressor will also burn the Blu-Ray if you set it up to do so:

  • Final Cut Pro color problem

So I just got myself a new 24' LED monitor for my home edit suite, and I have been very pleased with it.  I just happened to open FCP to see adjust my workspace for the bigger setup, and I noticed a strange problem.  In FCP, the viewer and the canvas look very dark, like the brightness is turned down.  It also looks that way on my laptop monitor, which has always been my second edit monitor.
However, my project exports look nothing like that on the same monitor.  I thought perhaps the monitor wasn't calibrated properly, but the Quicktimes look fine.  I've attached a screen shot of the problem.  The image on top is the Quicktime, and the image on the bottom is the FCP canvas.  What's happened to my FCP?  Is it some sort of color profile or does it have to do with the resolution?  Is it a FCP setting or a monitor setting?  I don't understand why it changed how it looked on my laptop monitor, since nothing changed with it.  Any insight would be fantastic!
    Thanks

I believe this is the difference between  broadcast gamma output via something like a AJA KONA card and a regular monitor gamma. Go into Final Cut Pro- System Settings and select the Playback control tab. Change the Gamma Correction from "Accurate" to "Approximate"
When you reset this you can then start to calibrate your monitor. Without that gamma setting changed you can crank all of your monitor settings to maximun brightness and you'll never ever see the pluge on your color bars.
    Good Luck,

  • Annoyed with JVC/Final Cut Pro import problem; will they ever fix this?

Annoyed with Final Cut Pro JVC import problem; will they ever fix this?
I've shot footage on JVC GY-HD111E in the UK in 720p/25p PAL mode.
I'm trying to import lots of short clips (average 10 seconds) into Final Cut Pro (latest version with 720p/25p support) with a new Mac Pro maxed out with ram and 3 extra internal HDs.
Problem is, on a scene-break i.e. pause/stop, Final Cut detects this and creates a new clip, but it takes about 5 seconds to 'searching for media" before it starts the new clip. Because some clips are only very short, this 5 second delay sometimes means I only get the final few frames of a clip, rather than the entire 5 seconds or so of it.
JVC UK are blaming Apple and are saying it is up to them to fix it as Premiere and Edius does not have this problem.
However, Symbiosis in the UK (who do HD-Connect box) say that the JVC ProHD cameras do not wrap the shots up properly at the end, they are kind of left open and this creates problems on scene-breaks.
I've tried turning off the "create new clip on timecode break" etc, but it does not make any difference, when I do this it simply quits capturing on a scene break. Besides I have about 300 cutaways like this and I don't want to spend the rest of the year breaking them up on the timeline as this would be a futile and long workflow.
I'm importing and working on a native HDV 720p/25p timeline and this is the way I want to work. I've already imported and edited 4 hours of footage, but these 4 hours were easy as all 4 tapes had no start/stop points, they were recorded continuously from beginning to end of tape for 64 minutes each time so importing was no problem; 1 clip per tape.
But now I've come to my 5 tapes containing hundreds of cutaways I'm kind of screwed and need some advise on how I can import them natively in HDV without losing this 5 seconds off the beginning of each clip whilst FCP searches for the media each time.
I've been told this issue is definately with FCP, any ideas how I can get around this?

I haven't heard of this JVC/FCP problem, so I can't comment on it. However, whoever shot the cutaways didn't do you, the editor, any favors.
I've been doing video since 1984, and I've got to say, anyone who shoots a scene that is only 5 or 6 seconds long on tape is making a huge mistake, and it's been that way since the beginning of computerized editing in the late 70s.
Shoot at least 5 seconds of pre-roll before the shot begins, then roll tape for at least 5 seconds after you've got the shot. That's the protocol I've followed for 22 years now. Tape is cheap, edit suite time isn't.
But laying down only 5 to 6 seconds for a scene is wrong, IMO.

  • Final Cut Pro 5, problems with switching between HDV and DV

I recorded a movie in HDV 1080i50 and captured it into Final Cut Pro 5. I think the capture was done correctly (but the video was captured by another person), with Easy Setup on HDV 1080i50 and the camera set on HDV 1080i.
The sequence in which I edited the movie had its settings on DV PAl which was necesary for me to export the video for DVD. Of course I had to render the clips many times in the DV mode. Later I wanted to export the movie to tape in the original HDV format so I changed the sequence settings to HDV 1080i50.
There I encountered a problem. The frame became very small while the aspect ratio was huge (1920x1080) and it didn´t matter though I copied the clips to a new sequence (with its settings on HDV).
Does anybody know why this occurres? Is it possible that the frame size distorts if I change the sequence settings from HDV to DV and again to HDV? Because I have also tried to put the original audio/video files into a new HDV sequence and there the frames dimensions are correct.

I think your workflow is completely wrong.
Edit in whatever codec the footage is, then export via
    Compressor > Advanced Format Conversion
    It's that simple.
You can't just change your sequence settings to whatever you want the footage to be.

  • Final Cut Pro 4:  Problems exporting video using QuickTime conversion

just recently updated my Mac to version 10.4.11 -
Ever since, Final Cut Pro won't let me Export my video using QuickTime Conversion.
Its starts exporting, then freezes at 79%. A general error message pops up.
I know its not a space issue, because I have 20GB left and the video i'm exporting is only 2 GB.
I installed all the software updates.
Can anyone help? Do I need a new version of Final Cut?

    1) this is the final cut express forum not the pro.
    2) 10.4.6 is not the latest, try updating to 10.4.11
    3) after any system update you must run disk utility to repair permissions or errors that may not have been addressed during the upgrade process.
    4) have you tried exporting as a reference movie then playing it in qtpro, if ok then export.
    5) what are you trying to export too?

  • Final Cut Pro Audio Problem

We recently had a problem with mastering a digital beta tape using FCP 3.1.
The final audio mix was brought in as a wav file. Playing the file through quicktime, worked fine, however there were very specific sound FX that would not play back through final cut or our system. I even exported the clip from FCP and made a movie in the Black Magic Decklink codec. That file played the auido just fine from the desk top, however when I brought it back into FCP, and tried to lay it off to tape, the same SFX dropped out of the sound track.
So we isolated the sound that wasn't working, and brought it in. The same problem persisted. We then exported the sound file so that instead of having audio in only one channel of a dual channel audio file, we just made it a monochannel sound, and put it in one channel only of our time line.. and THIS WORKED!
So I have a fix, but its the problem that we dont understand. We need to make sure that this sort of thing doesnt lead to larger problems in the future and would really like to get to the bottom of it. If anyone could help us out with this please do!
    -A

Betcha dollars to doughnuts it's a phase problem. This explains the reason it works in one channel and not in both.
Suggest you invite your audio guy over and play it for him on your system. And let him fix it for you.
WHERE in the chain of events this originally occurred is the tricky part. But it ought to be fun sort of mystery to unravel if you've got the time before deadline to get it properly sorted.
Good luck with it. Let us know.

  • Final Cut Pro X problems with effects and grading

I have just finishied cutting my first project in FCPX and I must say I'm amazed over how fun it is to work with it.
However, I have some problems that I think is a bug or something related to my hardware, would like some input on this.
My machine is an early 2008 MacPro that has been "slightly" re-modified"
I'm running 10.7.5 from a 512GB SSD and all my material is on an internal RAID with 4 brand-new Seagate 3TB Barracudas. My graphicsboard is taken from a 2009 MacPro and is an ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB.
    I'm running FCPX version 10.0.8
The material I've edited is both 1080P/25fr and 720P/50fr
One thing that has been heavy on my machine is the fact that I have cut parts of it in Multi-clip- I have up to 10 angels running at once. Yeah, I guess that could cause a crash but I don't see why that should account for my problems as written below.
I can't really say that I have noticed anything that indicates that my machine is to slow or old.
    So, the problem then...
I have done a lot of grading in several levels and I've also added a few effects. On different occations the grading has disappeared and effects have been reset. Also I had a situation where a certain effect looked different when I added it a second time on the same clip.
I put a vignette over the whole project and when I restarted the program the following day, it had reset to become a black oval.
On top of this the program has been shutting down on ocasion, although that hasn't been very frequent.
Anyone have any thoughs on this? Is it just a question of installing Mountain Lion?
    /Gunnar

I have proxy media for all of it. it's only the software that shuts down luckily
One things that confuses me is that I just took the foilders to an exrternal drive and opened on my laptop and it seams to work fine. Except for the fact that the machine is to slow it shows the grading and the effects correctly.
Maybe I should throiugh out prefs files or simply reinstall the whole thing.
I might also mention that I'm running FCP7 on the same machine.
I used the Apple Knowledge file that said to start the old Motion before starting FCPX for the first time.
I do think you have a point in that the multicam clips could be the issue, gonna se if I can solve that somehow.
Is there a way to make them "render" or convert into regular clips so the timeline doesn't read from the Multiclip once I've edited?

  • My Final Cut Pro unexpectedly quits when I scroll near a certain project in my Project Library (and unable to open said project).

I was working on a project last night and Final Cut Pro would unexptedly quit several times. I eventually got tired of it and decied to go home. Came back today and the problem continued. I turned my Macbook off and turned it back on, same problem. I moved some of my stuff off my Mac HD into my external hard drives, still the same problem. I ran Disk Utility on all my harddrives, used Preference Manager on Final Cut Pro; the problem continues. I'm able to open and work on all my other projects, but when I even scroll near the file I was working on last night, FCP decides to completely close.

I hope it'll work for others.
    My version FCPX 10.1.4
After a lot of research it appeared that some of my thumbnails were corrupted and made FCPX freezing while trying to display them.
    So here is my solution:
    - FCPX is closed
    - Go to your library storage
    - Explore your Library or just remove the .fcpbundle extension if you have chosen to display the extensions then you'll see that the whole library as a normal folder
    - Go to your project folder --> Render Files and move the whole Thumbnail Media folder to the trash
    - Don't forget to rename the library folder with the .fcpbundle extension if you have removed it previously
    - Launch FCPX again and it'll recreate the media thumbnails while opening your library
    Et voila

  • Final Cut Pro unexpectedly quits when scrubbing in the viewer

    Hello there!
I am scrubbing an H264 clip in the viewer window and suddenly, FCP quits! I tried trashing the FCP prefs already, repairing the disk permissions, but to no avail.
What seems to be the problem?

Thanks for the tip. Tried using other formats like the prores codec worked fine.
It turned out that Final Cut Pro had problems scrubbing with H.264 files. I have tried using the H.264 clips with both versions 5 and 6, and yielding the same problem.
H264 playback issues with Final Cut Pro 6.0.1 was resolved by Apple a couple of months ago. See link below:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306072
I presume that scrubbing, on the other hand, has not been resolved by Apple yet.

  • Final cut pro using all of my memory

So I have the latest version of Mavericks (as of late July) and the latest version of Final Cut Pro (10.1.2). Now I am creating a short film for my Extension English major work and I am editing with Final Cut Pro, the problem that I am having is that the program keeps using up all of my memory under the "other" field. My "Other" usage is weighing in at around 60GB as of now. I do own a 2TB harddrive and my MacBook is 120GB (with HSC documents that I need to keep or else my future as a human is basically pointless).
How am I able to continue editing my project without using all of my memory. is there an autosave switch i need to turn off, is there a problem with my software!?!?
    Please help!

You really need to get an external drive – Thunderbolt, USB3, or Firewire 800 – depending on the vintage of your machine. And you should get a second external for backup. (Sorry to be spending your money for you, but it's important; drives fail – both spinning drives and SSDs.)
Put your media, and your libraries on the external drive. You can drag the libraries you have now to the new drive, working in the Finder, with FCP closed,. Before you do that, it's a good idea to select the libraries and use the Consolidate Library Files command. WHen you drag a library to another drive, it will be copied. Before you trash the duplicate libraries on the boot drive, open the new libraries to make sure they work properly.
    Good luck.
