I was importing media, and closed out of the media before stoping the media import. This is how the file saved on the hard drive.
I need to get this file into a format that FCP can open. Is there a way to export a .FinalCutCopy file into a .mov file???
Any insights would be VERY HELPFUL!

I was able to figure it out. I renamed the file type to a .mov format and quicktime was able to open it. Then I saved that file format on the desktop, and imported in after I opened FCP. The file then imported and I was able to access the whole video clip I had! Thanks for your help!

  • MPG to Final Cut Pro , convert mpg files to FCP freely

Why need to convert/import MPG files to Final Cut Pro?
Final Cut Pro is the premium choice for any Mac video editing, and it is widely used by Mac users now. These MPEG standard files can be these different codes and cause failure in importing to Final Cut Pro. If anyone comes across the situation, the best solution is to get aids from MPEG/MPG to FCP converter for Mac, which can help you to convert MPEG group files to FCP compatible video format and then files can be easily imported for editing job.
As we know that Final Cut Pro don't natively support MPG, MPEG, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 files, it can import MPEG-4 files (but need to be rendered once you place them on your timeline) and MOV files (without rendering). Therefore, to import MPG to Final Cut Pro directly, the best way is to convert MPG to Final Cut Pro supported Apple ProRes MOV files.
How to convert MPG to Final Cut Pro(fcp)
    Step 1: Import MPG files
Download the latest version of MPG to Final Cut Pro Converter, install and run. And then, click Add Files to import MPG files to FCP, or you can also drag MPG files directly to MPG to Final Cut Pro directly.
Step 2: Choose output format and directory
You can click the drop-down list of Convert Toto select output format as "Final Cut Pro"-> "Apple ProRes MOV ". After that, click "…" of Save Toto designate a directory to save your converted files.
Step 3: Convert MPG to Final Cut Pro (X)
Click Convert to transcode MPG to MOV for editing in Final Cut Pro.
MPG to Final Cut Pro Converter is a practical tool for you to convert MPG, MPEG files to Final Cut Pro supported MOV files in order to free import MPG to Final Cut Pro (X) , FCE, iMovie on Mac OS X Mountain Lion . Besides, it is also able to convert MPG to other video files AVI, WMV, MP4, MKV FLV, DV, 3GP, ASF, RM etc.

Import unsupported MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 to Final Cut Pro 7/X, Final Cut Express
Summary:If you are looking for the best way to transcode MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 videos to ProRes MOV for FCP 7/X and FCE, you can follow this post, it has offered best solutions for editing MPEG videos on Mac in Final Cut Pro 7/X, Final Cut Express.
    Cases:
The following are two problems when some users import MPEG-1/MPEG-2 to Final Cut:
"I am trying to import MPEG-2 files into Final Cut Pro X. I have the raw files from a Sony Handicam HDR-SR5 as well as raw files from an Sony Handicam MDR-CX560. These files were recorded as MPEG-2 files and copied from the camera hard drives (entire folders were copied containind the MPEG-2 fies) to a local hard drive on my computer. Final Cut Pro X does not recognize the files and will not import them. I have tried to use Compressor to conver the fies. I am using the very latest version that touts being able to export to Final Cut X format. I don't see that option anywhere in the settings."
    Question:
Is there a way to get MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 files into Final Cut Pro X without having to convert them?
    Answer:
Don't try to work with (highly compressed) MPEG 2 in FCP X. Use software to convert to ProRes 422 first, it's best codec for final cut pro or final cut express. Life will be much easier for you if you do. ProRes 422 is roughly between 5 and 8 times bigger than native camera footage - sometimes as much as 10 times, I believe, but it's well worth it for editing, effects and playback quality. The time required depends largely on your processor power but 30 mins sounds realistic.
    Software you need:
Pavtube HD Video Converter for Mac
This software can convert MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 to Apple ProRes 422 codec for Final Cut Pro, Final Cut Pro 7, Final Cut Pro X or Final Cut Expr editing without rendering.
    Step by step guide:
    1. Download and install the best MPEG1/MPEG2 to ProRes Converter and launch it to add your videos to it.
    2. Choose output format. Click on the “Format”> Final Cut Pro, Apple PreRes 422(HQ), Apple PreRes 422, Apple ProRes 422(LT), etc are all the proper choice for you.
    3. Click "Settings" to adjust the parameters as you want, like Video Codec, bit rate, frame rate, Audio codec, sample rate, bit rate, channels. Set the video frame rate as 30fps, video size as 1920*1080 will be better.
    4. Click Convert button to start MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 to Final Cut friendly Apple ProRes 422 for native editing on Mac OS X.
    5. When the conversion ends, you can run the Final Cut Pro and click File --> Import --> Files to import the resulted MOV files and edit them in FCP easily, you can follow this import video to fcp guide.
From the steps above, I think you got the point to convert and import MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 files to Apple ProRes 422 for Final Cut editing, please have a try, this software will solve you MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 importing and editing problems, and then you can import and use your MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 in Final Cut Pro 7, Final Cut Pro X or Final Cut Express on Mac without any problems.
Now you can get DVD Creator which can help you easily burn video to DVD disc/ISO files.

Is you're autosave folder on a drive that's not formatted macosextended?  You set the location for the autosave folder in system settings which can be found in the FinalCutPro Menu.  Also, the best way to trash fcp preferences is using Digital Rebellion's Preference Manager

  • Final Cut Pro Unix Executable file???  what do i do?

    Hey All,
So I wanted to dig up an old movie i edited in 2003 so i took out the old IMac. I found the Final Cut Pro 2 sequence on there but because all the footage (capture scratch, etc.) is saved to an external hard drive i need to reconnect the material to the sequence. i hooked up my WD My Book drive to my G5 to find the clips and sure enough i backed them up on this hard drive (37 gb worth) awhile ago but for some reason all the clips say they're Unix Executable Files? Why did this happen when i backed them up instead of them staying as Quicktime files?
    So here are my questions...
Tonight when i go home I want to be able to open up the FCP sequence on Final Cut Pro Studio 2 (fcp7)...will this be possible to open up an FCP 2 sequence that many versions later?
Also, please tell me why the quicktime clips did this? When i do File-->Get Info-->change open with Terminal to Quicktime they play but how will i get them to reconnect to FCP?? Do i need to go one by one and add .mov extension??
I'm very confused...i would rather not have to do the editing on the 2003 machine..i'd like to get it to work on my newest computer (27inch imac).
Can i attach a newer external that the clips are on to the old mac?
    Thank you,
    Jenna

..will this be possible to open up an FCP 2 sequence that many versions later?
    Yes.
Do i need to go one by one and add .mov extension??
Use my [Automator Action|https://files.me.com/nikholmes/0ge9cr] which will rename them for you -Just choose the correct folder in the "Start At" section. Link is a direct download from my iDisk.
Can i attach a newer external that the clips are on to the old mac?
    Of course.

  • Export through Final Cut Pro of .mov file results in non-viewable file...

    Hello,
I recently worked on a film and had asked for a .mov version of the movie so I could get an uncompressed HD version in case I wished to use it for my demo reel (video for actors).
I was present when the director exported it and he exported it from Final Cut Pro (the latest version) and he exported it as a .mov file.
Well, I just tried opening the video and it does not work. In Quicktime, the error message:
"The movie "movie.mov" can't be opened.
You may need to install additional software to open this type of file.
I'm thinking it might be a codec issue.
Do you have any suggestions as to how the movie should be exported so that I avoid this type of error message?
I tried opening the file in iTunes and I got the audio, but the video was black. Another clue that it's a codec issue.
I just need a high quality (as uncompressed as possible) file that I can then add to an editing program and insert into my demo reel. I need the high definition format to be retained.
As for the frame-rate, etc. I'm not sure. It was done with high quality and expensive video equipment and didn't use tape. I know it was high definition and widescreen as well.

Nope, I don't have Final Cut Pro on my system.
I clicked on Get Info and nothing about the codec appears.
    "Kind: QuickTime movie"
"Size: 1.99 GB on disc" (it is about 6 minutes long; that I remember)
    "Title: movie.mov"
"Last Opened" is the next and last thing that appears.
I tried opening it using VLC and the movie just stops and starts throughout. It plays for just a second and then stops and I have to keep clicking the "Play" button to get it to keep playing.
Actually, just now I tried it again in VLC and it just kept stuttering.
From VLC, I chose Media Information and under Codec Details, the following appeared:
    Stream 0:
    Type: Video
    Codec: MPEG-1/2 Video (xdvd)
    Language: English
    Resolution: 1920x1080
    Frame rate: 23.976000
    Stream 1:
    Type: Audio
    Codec: PCM S16 LE (sowt)
    Language: English
    Channels: Stereo
    Sample Rate: 48000 Hz
    Bits per sample: 16
Should I ask that the movie be re-exported using the ProRes codec???

  • Linking Final Cut Pro X Old Files to without moving them.

I installed a new SSD drive on the DVD bay on my mac book pro computer. Now I have internally two Hard Drives.
Both are bootable but, I don't want to use the original one because the new one is a lot faster to work with Final Cut or any other software.
I have all of my events and projects in my movie folder located on the "original 750 GB hard drive".
How can I link my original files on the 750 GB to appear directly on the SSD drive WITHOUT MOVING them.
Everything I read with the Final Cut Pro X says information about moving the files says that I am unable to move them.
I realize it's a new feature on FCPX that you lose from Studio.
    Any replies would be appreciated.
    Thanks for your time.

    Hi Tom,
Thanks again for your generous time. I will try and be a bit more clear in my descriptions. Writing is a bit more difficult to explain. I installed the new SSD drive in additional to the original drive because i wanted to edit on the new SSD drive as it is faster. However, when I installed the SSD drive all of my original FCPX files were still on the "original" drive. Will your suggestion allow me to keep the files on the 750 HD "original hard drive" yet edit using the faster SSD drive.
    For your suggestion:
Will FCPX will "detect" that modification of the location of those folders and will be still able to see it directly in FCPX
    Thanks

  • The document "-" could not be opened. Final Cut Pro cannot open files in the "package" format.

    Hello.
I have been trying to open a Final Cut Pro project but I keep getting this notification (title). The internet does not seem to have any solutions (maybe because of how simple it is).
I have had in on an external hard drive for a while.
    I am using FCP 10.0.9
Is there anything I can do?
    Thanks,
    Jimmy Fox

It sounds like you're trying to open an FCP library. FCP files are never backwards compatible. The library structure was first created in version 10.1, so 10.0.9 will not open it. You'd need to find out which version created the library.

  • Final cut pro X export files bigger than originals

I got two WMV files, each file size about 500mbs, I converted them to mp4 using permute. Afther converting, each file size about 490mbs.
Then I open the mp4 files with final cut pro, I just want to mend the two clips together, it's that simple. I finish puting the clips adjacent to each other. Then hit export and chose encoding method .h264.
When final cut finished exporting, the movie is over 4GB in size.
Why is it so big ? the orginal files combined size is just about 1 GB.

    File numer 1
    format :H.264, 1,280 x 720 AAC, 48000 Hz, Stereo (L R)
    FPS: 29.97
    data size: 1.23 GB
    data rate: 3.64 Mbit/s
    current size: 1,280 × 720 pixels (Actual)

    data size: 962.9 MB
    data rate: 3.62 Mbit/s
    current size: 1,280 × 720 pixels (Actual)
After putting two clips together in final cut pro and export with h.264 encoding
    Format: H.264, 1,280 x 720 AAC, 48000 Hz, 5.1 (C L R Ls Rs LFE)

  • Final Cut Pro: Imported music files too large?

I've imported a 10 min and 20 sec .aif audio file that is 104.2 MB currently in Final Cut. Does this seem like a correct file size? Is there any way to make the file smaller? Here's the other specs for the file:
    data rate: 172.3k/sec
    Aud rate: 44.1 KHz
    Audio Format: 16-bit integer
I have other files of similar size for example a 6:43 music file that is 67.8 MB.

I have exported a 3min video in HDef and it is 1GB! I don't understand why this is so large.
you suggest file format to be AIFF; how do i export in this format and where do I change the sample rate to 48k? thanks.

  • Final Cut Pro HD project file opens slowly

I have a very large movie project which is connected to about 800 gigs of HD footage split between two Lacie Extreme hard drives. Everything used to open fine, but when I tried to open the project this week, final cut opens fine but then it gets to the "reading project" and it takes an hour just to get to one percent. It did open after 30 hours or so.
I brought my hard drives to a computer lab and the project opened there, although the computer soon ran out of memory. My project files aren't corrupted, and my hard drives seem to be fine...so why is it taking so long for the project to open on my computer?
I've also had trouble copying files from my hard drives to my computer and vice versa. The larger the file, the longer the copying stays at "0%, 1 minute remaining" until it finally starts copying, at which point it is normal. Could this be related?

    Thanks for responding.
I found that if I set final cut to play the footage at lower resolution and half the frame rate, the sequences would play without freezing as much, but this doesn't solve the bigger problem.
I have Activity Monitor open and right now it says Final Cut is using 8.4% CPU, with 654.2 MB of Real Memory and 1.76GB of Virtual memory. When I go to "Inspect" and to the Statistics tab, is says "Page Ins: 58398" There are also stats about Shared and Private Memory. I don't know how to interpret any of this.
I don't know that I have CMYK graphics, and what is multi-clip?
My hard drives are 80% and 95% full.
I will try duplicating the project and deleting all but the current version of my sequences. I will also try to use render manager. Are you saying it might help if I delete all renders and rerender what I need?
I did copy one sequence into a new project and am trying to open that now. It is taking a very long time...it will certainly load must faster than the huge project but it doesn't seem to have solved the problem.
Let me know what you think & thanks.

  • Where does Final Cut Pro X save files to?

I stupidly downloaded a cracked vesion of final cut a couple of years ago and this week have been working a loong time on a video, but since i installed Yosemite the cracked final cut is no longer compatable with it - so I cant open FC at all. I need to get hold of the video i was working on but I didnt export it or  anything. Is there ANY way FC stores projects that you can get hold of without opening the programme? It's the 10.0 version just incase that changes things

I understand that. As I said - 'stupidly'.

  • Apple Final Cut Pro: No Importable Files

I'm trying to add a movie file to Apple Pro to burn, and it keeps saying "No importable files. None of the selected files or folders can be imported. Change the selection and try again."
    Can anyone please help?!

It says "To see if additional software is available that will enable QuickTime Player to open the movie, click Tell Me More." It tries to convert the movie first and then says it can't open it.

  • Which processor to choose for Final Cut Pro working with files from DSLR?

I am shooting in hd with Canon Eos 5d MK II and another camera the Panasonic HDC sd700.
I am considering upgrading my Mac to either a stationary Mac Pro or an Imac 27 inch (which is a bit more flexible).
1.) How much difference in performance of FCP between the 2,8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon "Nehalem" and the 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 (the latter installed in the Imac)??????
2.) How much need is there for external esata drives which I can get with the Mac Pro option in regard to performance needs in comparison with the slower FW800 I get with the Imac? Is this crucial? Will FW 800 external drives be to slow?
I am thinking of installing 8GB of ram if I go for the Imac and 6GB of ram if I go for the Mac Pro.

A point to remember Motion uses the RAM on the graphics card for rendering not the machine RAM .. I have also read that while FCP is still 32bit it can only access something like 4 / 6Gb RAM at a time .. so as a previous post says you can always add more RAM and more HDDs in a MAC Pro .. indeed it is a breeze to upgrade a graphics card too .. I have both a MAC Pro and an i7 iMAC I never use the iMAC for FCS work .. it is powerful enough but Geekbench (free benchmark tool http://www.primatelabs.ca/geekbench/) puts my MAC Pro way ahead of the iMAC .. my Pro is a 2 X Quad Core 2.26 with 12Gb RAM
    Regards

  • The document "P1030596.MOV" could not be opened. Final Cut Pro cannot open files in the "QuickTime movie" format.  REALLY !

    ?

How are you trying to open it? You are not supposed to open these files in FCP X by dragging them onto to the dock, or using "open with" in the Finder. That will lead to the aforementioned message.
Instead, you drag them into an Event inside FCP X.
