Final Cut Pro X Speeding Up Clip Dropped Frames

Hello there!
I record Xbox 360 gameplay through a Hauppauge HD PVR into EyeTV3.  I then export those clips using EyeTV3.  Then, I import those clips into Final Cut Pro X.  In the past, FCPX used to work through these clips incredibly fast and I never had any problems changing the speed in the timeline.  Now, however, FCPX runs really slow, sometimes crashes upon startup, and most annoyingly, drops frames...a lot.  I import the file and put it in the timeline, and even without changing the speed, it often doesn't even render the whole clip, but rather just appears to 'miss' 3 or 4 frames, which is very annoying.  It gets even worse when I change the speed of the clip (namely, speed it up).  I know it is not an EyeTV3 problem, because I watch the clips just fine after exporting in QuickTime.  I have tried exporting as H.264 an HD 720P, but nothing seems to work.  And I don't understand why it used to work flawlessly until now.  It is really upsetting and I am at a loss as to how to fix the problem.  All help would be appreciated.  Thank you very much.

This has happened to me with a few downloads without any upsets.
    You should be OK.
As I recall the download is around 1.2 gig so it takes a bit of time and effort to get it to your system.

the most improving effect on 'speed' is distributed media:
System/App, Projects, Events, Cache, backups on diff. platters. Esp. when using compounds/multicams, each 'angle' on its own drive...
To improve 'rendering' = export speed, the graphic card is the limiting factor.
On my slow system, 8GB was nice, 16GBs made it more 'snappier' ...

  • Final Cut Pro X exports video clip as black

    Hi Everyone,
I have a big problem, I'm trying to export a project with many HD clips, the first of which is the only one being shot as AVCHD on a Sony DSLR and converted to .mov by Voltaic HD because otherwise I can't import it in Final Cut Pro X. The rest of the clips are directly imported from another camera, no conversion.
The first clip (the one I had to convert) plays and gets edited fine within FCPX, but after I export the whole project, all the part that had that clip is just black picture with no sound. My titles, photos in the meantime are still there, but otherwise all black until the next clips show up.
The sources clips are hd1080p but I'm trying to export the project as 720p. My FCPX version is 10.0.9. I've edited videos from the same source and conversion before and never had this problem.
So now I just took the same single clip into a new project and exported it at 720p and there it just works fine ... Arrrghh!! How can I fix this?

I am having an almost identical problem:
Trying to export (doesn’t matter to what: Master File, Apple Device, etc. all lead to the same result) the project I am working on is producing a black screen with no audio (for the length of the project) – only the start and end titles get rendered.
The project plays fine in FCP X 10.0.9; the initial screen on the export dialog produces a correct looking screenshot (with both the picture and title visible), and predicts realistic sizes for the export file, which ends up being tiny by comparison.
Other projects with a similar workflow are exporting fine: basically I have shot a couple of concerts, and each project is one song with start and end credits and some color correction, stabilization, etc.
The source was 1080P video from a Canon SLR 5D Mark III, and it is being exported to 1080P -- however, I don't think that's relevant, because video from the same source to the same export files worked fine before - FCP X can obviously handle the format involved.
I tried deleting the FCP X preferences -- didn’t help. I had already tried deleting the render files.
    Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

  • Final cut pro audio missing from clip once i move it from viewer to canvass?

hi i'm new to final cut pro 7, when i play my video in the viewer i can hear the audio loud and clear however when i'm move it to the canvass and play it in the time line the audio is gone? can someone pls help me

Probably best to ask this questio in the FINAL CUT STUDIO forum and not the FCPX forum, BUT -- since you're here...
Make sure that the AUDIO PATCHES are connected to the timeline... those are the pluggy arrow type looking things on the left side of the timeline.  With the clip in the viewer window add it into the timeline.  Audio should come with it.
Or - do you already SEE the audio tracks on the timeline and you just can't hear it?  (if that's the case, try opening the audio mixer and making sure the master volume is up.
    Good luck,

  • Is there a way to roll ab roll and cut between the two as in final cut pro which has multi clip

Is there a way to AB roll as in Final Cut Pro which has multi cut

There is another workaround that enables you to see 2, 3 or 4 videos simultaneously and make decisions about where to cut from one to another.  It's not the exact same thing as FCP's multiclip feature but it does work.
Download & install Piero's QuarterPIP filter.  Place each of your videos on a separate track (up to 4).  Apply the QuarterPIP filter to each, placing each video on a separate quadrant of the canvas.  (You may have to sync their placement on the track if there is common audio among them.)
You can then play the timeline and see all 4 videos simultaneously in the Canvas.  You can then place markers and make cuts & deleted unwanted portions of selected tracks as desired.  The limitation is that you can't just cut from one track to another on the fly as you can in FCP - you have to actually cut & delete the portions of the video tracks that you don't want in the final video.
When you are done you can remove the QuarterPIP filters and will be left with one resulting video.

  • Final Cut Pro X Image Sequence Export missing frames per second option?

I am using the trial version of Final Cut Pro X.  I can export an image sequence but it will only allow me to do so at 30 frames per second -every single frame!
So a 10 min movie takes half an hour to export 20,000+ frames that no one on earth has time to look thru.
In my old Final Cut Express I was able to choose 1 or 2 frames per second, which was just right.
    What am I missing?
Do I need to buy Quicktime Pro or Compressor to allow me to export image sequences without exporting every frame?
Why would Apple even have an image sequence export if it only allows you to export every frame, or it that only in the trial version?
    Thank you

I found a free option for you, if you don't already have Compressor 4.
In FCPX create your movie. Then SHARE as a Master File.
Get MPEG Streamclip, which is a free app available here.
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
Drag your Master File into MPEG Streamclip.
In MPEG Streamclip, select FILE/EXPORT TO OTHER FORMATS.
    In FORMAT: choose IMAGE SEQUENCE
In OPTIONS, choose your frame rate.

  • Final Cut Pro 7: Copying/pasting clips in timeline w/o overwriting

How do I copy and paste clips in my timeline without overwriting the other clips? We know how to drag clips in the timeline (and do an insert edit), but this takes too long since we have dozens and dozens of clips already in our timeline. It's easier to be able to just copy and paste (or cut) but whenever we do this, when we paste the clip it automatically overwrites instead of inserting the clip at the playhead (and simply moving everything else down).
We think we must be doing something very simple wrong or having some unknown box checked because it seems obvious that this should be something very easy to do in any editing program. It doesn't make sense that the default setting of Final Cut is to overwrite clips, right?

This is the FCP-X forum, not the FCP-7 forum, but to answer your question -
to paste copied clips into the timeline without overwriting, place the playhead where you want to place your copied clip(s) and type Shift-V instead of Command-V.

  • Why does Final Cut Pro X speed up my video that I imported?

I have been having this problem off and on during my time using Final Cut since the summer of 2011 and it bugs me sometimes not know why the video always is retimed at a different speed once I import it to an event. I even tried to drag the file in and it still does the same thing. You might be asking "How do you know the video is faster?" Well, I record videos for my band and we do somewhat like music videos and we take shots of us playing our instruments while singing to the song. Anyways, what I do is try to sync up the song that we recorded to the video. But, this time once I tried it, the audio/video of the imported video was sped up compared to the song. I am very confused as to what to do. We reall need help because the deadline for the video is today and we need to have it ready. Thank you to anyone who replies and we hope that you can help us! Have a great day.

The sync function allows you to sync a piece of separate audio to a video file with a scratch audio track. It uses the waveforms of the sound to sync this up. It will not do any speed changes necessary though.
Multicam allows you to sync multiple takes or camera shots or angle together with a single auudio track. You can sync based on a number of different criteria.
    http://www.fcpxbook.com/Multicam1.html
P.S. What's the original audio sample rate of your master recording? The Nikon should be shooting in 48k and that's what your playback track should be as well.

  • Final Cut Pro won't import clips

I've been working with this file all day and FCP was importing clips just fine. I exported the movie to a Master File, but when I went back to review it, I noticed there was a blip in one of the scenes. So I opened FCP back up to re-import and then re-export the movie, and now it won't import anything. The import dialogue box comes up fine, it lets me select a clip, it even lets me click the Import Clip button, but nothing happens once the dialogue box goes away. What the?

WHy are you reimporting? Don't you have the project that you exported from saved? You shouldn't need to reimport if that's the case.
HOW are you importing?  What is the format of the clips you are importing (codec)?

  • Why won't Final Cut Pro X sync multicam clip?

I am using two Canon 5D mkii cameras and an H4N to make short videos. When I select the clips from camera A and camera B and the H4N and click to make a multicam clip it always tries to sync the camera A and B files onto one angle instead of each camera having it's own angle. My work around right now is to make a multicam clip just using one camera and the audio (which syncs correctly) and then adding an angle and manually syncing the second camera. This wastes so much of my time though. Is there an easier way?

Try going into the inspector and filling in the "camera name" and "angle" fields for all the clips, then try to create a new Multicam clip again.

  • Final Cut Pro 7.02 - Importing Clip Problem

I tried searching for this but no help; I'm having trouble importing a clip into FCP but in the timeline and canvas, the last few seconds are mysteriously gone. In the screenshot link below, the information of the clip will show that it's 7:29 but in FCP the length is 7:14.
    http://a.imageshack.us/img832/7708/screenshot20100827at715.png
I'm just wondering, the clip is in ProRes 422 and over 9GB; is there a max. file size for FCP for importing clips that's causing this?
    Thanks in advance!

You used iShowU didn't you? Yeah, you have to either conform the clip to the frame rate you are going for (If you recorded 30fps, conform it to 30fps or 29.97). iShowU imports into FCP, because there is no "timecode track", tend to get lost.
Or, load it into the Viewer, and export as a self contained movie, then import that into FCP.
ScreenFlow is MUCH better at this.

  • Final Cut Pro not importing full clip

What i am using is a JVCpro GY-HM100 which records native mp4 and native mov files. I record native mp4 1080i60 and when i make an attempt to import the files it only imports 30sec of the file when it originally is a 4min clip how can i solve this issue so that it can import the full clip

    Welcome to the forum!
FCP does not work with those highly compressed MP4 files. Use an editing codec to edit with. MP4 is a acquisition and delivery codec not an editing one. Use an application like Compressor to convert the files into something like ProRes (LT) if you are working with an HD file.
You can search this forum for "MP4" topics. It's covered at least once a day.

  • Lost media for Final cut Pro X

I finished a project on final Cut Pro X and started on a new one downloading new footage.  I ran out of Disk space so I started to delete events from my iphoto library. (All is backed up)  I also deleted events and files that where being used in my previous project.  When I go to open the project they have obviously dissapeared and I am confronted with 2 different looking boxes.  One, with the usual 'Missing File' (Mainly photo's I think) with the red background icon, but also a lot of video which is replaced with a blue box with the linear look of a video and audio segment.  As I say I have all the footage backed up and have re uploaded back into iphoto.  I dont know how to make the program reconnect with the files I have reinstalled.
