Final Cut Quits after launch unexpectantly

I havent used final cut express since I did the last apple update. I open final cut express and I get an error message that unable to see firewire device and then i have an option to check again or continue to say devices connected are none. Nothing is connected except a midi keyboard thru USB and an external. After I hit continue final cut quits. What is wrong?

There is a pref setting to disable that warning dialog.
Check in user preferences under general tab. Put a checkmark at "Do not show A/V device warning on launch".
If the problem persist, try to trash the preference files:

Compress Fails because Final Cut Quits

Every time I try to compress my movie from FCP to Compressor there is ALWAYS a problem. It is extremely frustrating. I would estimate that it would successfully compress once in five tries.
One error I most frequently run into is that Final Cut "quits unexpectedly" while compressing and compressing fails. Final Cut says that it may have been caused by the Pro Graphics plugin.
One error I just ran into was QuickTime error 0. One Apple Knowledge Base article says you need 1GB memory or you will get this error. I have 6 GB of RAM!
I'm just starting to use FC Studio so I am still trying to understand why somethings don't work. I do, however, need this project compressed for a DVD ASAP, and these problems are not helping. Thanks in advance!

Until you get the problem solved, one workaround would be to export a self-contained movie from FCP (File->Export->QuickTime Movie). This will create a file identical to your Sequence. If you've included chapter or compression markers in FCP, be sure to indicate that in the export dialog window. You can then close FCP and use the new file directly in Compressor.

Final Cut quits unexpectedly at the end of Capture Now

I've tried searching google and question archives, but I can't tell if anyone is having the same problems as me. I've repaired permissions and verified the disc.
I'm using a new 8-core mac pro (a few months old) with 8 gb of ram. I'm importing from a tape on a Panasonic AG-HVX200. This has happened at least 5 times, where I've captured a tape, and at the end hit "esc" to stop. Instead of putting the new clip in my bin, it instantly quits the program, giving me an error message.
I am able to find the clip afterwards in my capture scratch folder and add it to my project, but it's a hassle.
So, two questions:
First, anyone have any idea what's wrong?
Second, I've heard the recommendation to log the clip first, then batch capture. As that takes more time, what sort of advantage does it have, besides that it probably won't crash my computer?
This is what the log says. I've compared these crashes to other crashes, and the +662 at the end of this line is consistent when I have this kind of crash, but not other crashes:

If you don't have a Limit set for Capture Now, FCP assumes it may need the entire remainder of the scratch disk and essentially allocates all available drive space for the task.
I'm not sure it is your issue, but it's generally advised to set the limit to a couple of minutes longer than any capture you intend to do.
One reason to Log and Capture, (this is dependent on workflow and needs), is that you become much more aware of what shots that exist on tape and you have an opportunity to more effectively name clips you choose to use and cull out garbage, which saves disk space.
Let us know if trashing prefs helped/didn't help...could be something else.

Final Cut Quit and Deleted All My Footage

I was working on a project in Final Cut Pro X when suddenly the application quit with a very brief error message attached (which I could not read in time). I then reopened Final Cut and the project was gone, and my events had been cleared. No events, no projects. Everything had been deleted. I searched through my computer for any footage whatsoever and nothing was there. I had directly imported to Final Cut.
There is also this little error icon next to the general event
Does anybody know what happened? Is there anything I can do? I already cleared my camera of the footage.

FCPX 10.1 automatically backs up your Library every 15 mins. Try opening a backup Library and reconnecting your media. It sounds like your media was imported into your current Library and that Library became corrupted during an application crash. If that's the case then you'll need to extract your media from your corrupted Library so that you can reconnect the media in a backup Library. In Finder go to the corrupted .fcpbundle file, right-click the file and choose "Show Package Contents". From inside the package contents of the .fcpbundle file you can copy your original media to a location that's outside of the Librabry bundle file. Once the media is copied outside of the Library bundle file then you will be able to locate it when you attempt to reconnect your media from a backup Library.

Final cut quits when i use a key board short cut

every time i use a key board short cut on my g4 550mhz 20gb hd powerbook whilst using final cut pro 3 or 4 it quits. this makes it unusable. i have recently updated from osx 10.1.3 to the latest version of tiger ("the most powerful operating system in the world"??) could you please tell me why it dose this so i can fix it. as this has left me unable to edit anything. final-cut won't work and i now have no imovie as tiger dose not come with it.

i was trying to undo edit apple-z and capture apple-8
i had panther installed on this very same computor for a short while and everything worked just fine.
but it was not my copy so it had to go. i only changed from 10.1.5 to tiger because it kept crashing on the internet, but in the prosses messed up final cut pro.

Why is final cut quitting unexpectedly

My final cut is quitting unexpectedly all the time. I cant use the application for five minutes without it crashing. It mostly happens when I scroll through my raw capture video clips. I scroll through the videos and the wheel shows up and quits. Please tell me what my problem is. It is very irritating when this happens.

Final Cut Quitting Unexpectedly

I was working on a project when i exported a couple shots to work in Motion with. When I was done working on these clips in Motion I saved the motion file and went back into Final Cut. The Motion file went offline right away, but now the Project wont open anymore. I am on final cut 4.5 and it loads up the entire project until it reaches the meadia offline window and then crashes. I have already trashed my prefeneces and com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist but neither of these two helped.

Please give the exact item properties of the clips you're editing and the exact item properties of the sequence in which you're editing.

Final cut quits during MPEG2 high quality encoding

I am trying to create MPEG 2 of FCP project using the 90min Hig Quality 2 pass setting. When I do, about half way through the encoding FCP quits causing the encoding to fail. The strange thing is if I drop back to fats encode 1 pass it seems to work. Am I going to lose much quality by only using the fast encode? Does anyone know how to fix the problem? Is it a compressor issue or FCP?
Any help would be great cause I don't want to compromise quality of my DVDs if I can help it.

From your post, I assume that you are using the "Export to Compressor" option from the File menu.
As a test, define a section of your timeline (via in and out points) and export that as a QT reference movie (make sure "Make Movie Self Containted" is UN-checked).
Import that into Compressor and apply your same HQ settings.
Also, what versions of the software are you running?

Final cut keeps "quitting unexpectedly"

Without even opening, Final cut quits with the error message "Final Cut quit unexpectedly while using the MPL-1 Pro SE plug-in". To be honest it's not even unexpected anymore. This plugin is made by Kjaerhus Audio. I've never used it, don't really need to and don't know how it got there. I tried deleting it and putting it in the trash but that didn't work either so I brought it back. I appreciate any help with this and thanks in advance.

I would be tempted to completely uninstall and reinstall FCE.
This should only take a few minutes.
This free app http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcsremover/ can instantly delete FCE or FCP and all its hidden files.
Reinstalling should then only take about 10 minutes.
This way you will get rid of any possibly corrupt files.

Why does Final Cut Express 4 quit automatically when I open Log and Transfer window?

I'm using a Sony NXCAM and I am editing on a Mac OS X. The clips I have recorded are in MTS format so I understand I must use the Log and Transfer setting to import my clips. I plug the camera into my computer, go into Final Cut Express 4, turn the camera on, and then go into the Log and Transfer window. Once I open that, Final Cut quits and an error message pops up that reads, "Final Cut Express quit unexpectedly." Final Cut quits too fast for me to even click on anything in the Log and Transfer window. I really don't understand why it does this. The only thing I can think of why Final Cut is quitting is because I have over 100 clips on the camera, so maybe that is too much for Final Cut Express 4 to handle. However, I wouldn't think that would be the case. If anyone knows of anything I could do to fix this problem, then please send me a reply. I've looked around the internet to see if anyone else has had this problem, but I haven't found anything. Thank you, any responses will be greatly appreciated!

Shooted videos directly saved to the SD memory card is no problem, the log and transfer window immediately recognizes the sd card and I was able to convert the videos. I will check later today if this were 25p, 50i or 50p footages.
Strangely enough is that transferring the .mts files from the internal memory to the sd card (using the Mac finder, I don't know if it is possible within the camera itself) won’t help, the log and transfer window doesn't the recognizes the transferred files, strange!
I hope that this problem will not occur using Final Cut Pro X, which I will start using soon.
I'm curious what the exact problem will be.

Help Final cut pro 7 quits unexpecteddly

I have a project ready to send to compressor, every time I sent to compressor about an hour later compressor stop working and it either say " Failed or Final cut quit unexpecteddly" , I've done many projects before never had this problem, the only diference in this project I shoot 1080p @ 30fps, I normally shoot @ 24fps, any suggestions, advice,,,,really need help I need to complete this project for a customer, I'm ussing final cut pro 7

First step is to reset your fcp preferences

what are your sequence settings and what format are your sources?
Is your sequence fully rendered?
If not, render. Figuring out how to fully render is not particularly intuitive. The best thing is to make sure all the options are checked in the sequence menu: render all, and then "render all."
If the sequence succesfully renders, try exporting a selfcontained quicktime with current settings and then bringing that file into compressor.

Help! Final Cut Pro unexpectedly quits during export.

This couldn't have happened at a worse time. I'm desperate to make a deadline and every time I try export using final cut pro OR compressor the program will unexpectedly quit in the middle of it. It usually happens within 10 minutes of a 40 minute export. I'm just doing a standard quicktime export of an 80 minute long movie. It was working fine only a few days ago. Anyone have any ideas what this might be? We've tried all the normal things, restarting, using final cut rescue, etc.
Not sure what else to say. We are in a huge time crunch and we can't even get it off of the computer and on to another one.

Hey thanks for your help! Yes I have tried exporting a self contained movie but everytime it just quits on me. I've tried about 15 times so far. if it is a corrupt render file is there something I can do about that? Ive been trying to render it to the full render in final cut as well before an export but after about 5 minutes final cut quits. So now it quits when I render AND when I export. So ive been going through and rendering 3 minutes at a time, maybe that will help. I dunno.

Final cut 7 wont open after final cut x install OR 3rd party software

I had installed FC x a week ago, did all the steps, even got FCP 7 to open... if I remember correctly. I came back from a short week off and now I cannot get 7 to open. It starts up loading the drivers and then I get the warning sign "Final cut quit unexpectedly" and I can send the report or ignore etc.
I'm not sure if this was an issue from final cut x or if it is because of a driver download I made from sony today. (link below)

Motion 4 opens, DVD studio Pro opens, FC x opens. I tried trashing the prefs and that didn't work

Repair permissions in Disk Utility. If FCP continues to crash…
why not trash FCPX and see if FCP7 then launches?
Either way, it won't take very long to download another copy of the new app.
Also – Digital Rebellion's Pro Maintenance Tools has a Crash Analyzer. There is a trial version so you can evaluate.

Final Cut Crashes on any EXPORT

Turned on the computer today and needed to Export some projects through Compressor. About 2 minutes into the encoding Final Cut "Quit Unexpectedly".
Tried several times with the same results. Final Cut also Quits when I export to "Quicktime Movie" & export 'Audio to AIFF'.
I trashed the preferences & repaired my disk permissions through disk utility. Still doesn't work.
I can however, edit just fine. No crashes there. Only when Exporting.
I should mention im working on the latest version of FCPS2 & OSX.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

You have pretty much the same set-up as us except we're one OSX 10.5.3
What video codec are your source files? and where you converting while exporting?
We've been using HDV 1080p and have tried export using quicktime conversion as well as a straight forward export all with no luck. Also tried deleting render files and re-rendering and still had no luck. The only work around we found was to take the footage into After Effects using Automatic Duck and then render it out from there...
