Final Cut Save Window Locked

Ok, here's a weird problem I just had with Final Cut Pro. I was exporting a file out, went through the movie settings window adjusting the compression and sound, when I get a quick aim message from a client. So I do a quick reply the go back to save my movie when I noticed that Final Cut locked me out!
Basically what happened was I switched applications with the Movie settings still open and when I switched back to Final Cut I couldn't select the floating window. Both the Movie Settings and Export window are open. I can select the Export window and create new folders and move around in my browser, but I can't save because the Movie Settings window is still open, which I can't select to close, it's completely grayed out. So it got to the point where I had to Force Quit my project just to go back and try to re-export again.
So here's my question: Is there anyway to select or quit out of the Movie Settings when going back and forth between FCP and applications without having FCP lock me out? This happened to me before when I was exporting a file out and I went back to a file with all the export settings then came back to be locked out.

Very odd.
Have you tried to duplicate this problem?

  • Final Cut Pro X locked up on an important project!

I've spend about 60 hours ediitng a project for an important client, and when adjusting the glow on a title, the accursed beach ball started spinning and wouldn't quit! THis was yesterday. I had just deleted my backup copy, and was planning another, but TOO LATE!
Someone please advise. I've rebooted, duplicated onto another drive.
I can open FCPX, and the project will play, if I don't open it.
    Thanks.

Never delete backup copies, as we now know.

Some things to try.  First, go to the Project Library, highlight (don't open) the Project, and in the File menu, delete it's render files.  Next, go to each Event you are pulling media from in the Event Library and delete any render files in them, also.
If that doesn't do it, get "Preference Manager" from Digital Rebellion (free) and use it to trash FCP X's pref files.
If that doesn't do it, move the "Final Cut Pro" app from the Applications folder into the Trash.  Then launch the App Store, go to the Purchases section, click the "Install" button for FCP X.
I have a feeling deleting render files may do the trick, but you never know.

  • Why doesn't final cut save my youtube password?

I always have to do one of those "application specific" passwords through Google. It works for once and then I have to reenter it (and subsequently get a new one) every time. It's annoying.
This is for Final Cut Pro X, fully updated.

Is it an FCPX issue or a google issue?

  • When in Final Cut My MacBook Screen goes black

I was working on Final Cut on my Macbook Pro and everything was running smoothly until I used the "help" tab to find out how to freeze frame. I moused over to the drop down window to hit the command and I either clicked on it or something around it, then my screen went black. I have a dual screen and nothing happened to my external monitor. Now the weird thing is when I use any other program my Macbook screen comes back to normal. It even comes back to normal when a Final Cut prompt windows come up on the screen but as soon as I answer the prompt the screen goes back to black. Has this happened to anyone else? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Hit command+F12 and see what happens.
It sounds like you've enabled Desktop Cinema Preview.

  • Final Cut Express vs. Final Cut Express HD

I am confused between Final Cut Express and the Final Cut Express HD. All the time I though I am using Final Cut Express HD version 4.0.1 which should be capable to capture HDV tapes (to my understanding) until lately I try to capture a tape shoot by a HDV camera (miniDV tape shoot by Canon) but was NOT successful. When I check back my application by opening a final cut project window >,About Final Cut Express, it shows I am using version 4.0.1, but I can’t capture the HDV tape shoot by the HDV camera. I went back to my application folder, I found I have 3 different Final Cut Express versions there which is including version 1.0.1 size 11.7 MB created Jan 25/03;version 3.0 size 160.3MB created Jan 25/05 (this version having HD wording at the end) and version 4.0.1 size 239.4MB was created Nov 6/07. Do I have to delete the version 1.0.1 and 3.0 to make the version 4.0.1 work well or something else in the system that I don't understand such as some kind of configuration should be set/change? Thank you in advance folks. By the way, some one can walk me through how to connect an old Mac 17” monitor to my new 27” iMac so that I can move the Canvas window over (I don’t know if it’s appropriate to ask this question here, if not, I apologize)? Thank you guys.

  • Compressor Closes Final Cut Pro 6 Project

This problem has just started happening: when exporting a sequence from within Final Cut via Compressor, using established built-in and custom settings (that worked last week!), Compressor begins to process the batch, but then Final Cut's window flashes and closes the project being exported! The resultant movie is empty black.
    Any thoughts?

There may be a corrupt render file in the sequence. Or in the project, or in the preferences. Try exporting a QT reference movie, then close FCP and send the reference movie to Compressor, see if it quits that.

  • Trying to update final cut, won't accept my serial number

    WHAT THE--??
My copy of Final Cut is legit, but I'm running 5.1.4. I need to update, but it won't accept the serial number. The version isn't originally registered to me (someone gave me one of their installs), but my copy is. Has this happened to anybody else?

    apologies,
I have gone on the FCP update page on the apple website. It asks for the serial number: when I enter the serial number that is displayed on the "about final cut pro" window, I am told that the serial number does not exist. This has happened at least a half dozen times. I have entered it exactly. I am running 5.1.4.

  • Final Cut stuff to External Hard Drive

I took the big plunge today and updated to 10.4.8. As long as I'm at it...
I need to move my Final Cut stuff to my external hard drive as it takes up way to much room internally. Because Final Cut saves things in different files and location in my hard drive - what I have on my external still does things to my internal and continues to take up space.
    I have tried several things.
    1. Tried to install Final Cut to external - didn't work - decided that I needed a 10.something over in the external for the FC to hold on to - so I...
    2. Tried to install 10.2, 10.3, 10.4 to external - external wasn't a location option for any of them.
So how do I get all the Final Cut stuff over on the external?
    Diane

That's weird. You have the correct setup. It may be that you have one of the few external FireWire hard drives that do not support OS X booting.
You could try resetting the PRAM.
You could also try resetting the firmware. The procedure is
Start up into Open Firmware by pressing and holding the Command-Option-O-F key combination during startup.
At the Open Firmware prompt, type: reset-nvram
    Press Return.
At the Open Firmware prompt, type: reset-all
    Press Return.
Neither of these procedures are destructive. So you can try them without worry of damage. They may help but they won't hurt.

  • Interface text disappeared in Final Cut Express after upgrade to 10.6

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and now none of the interface text will display in Final Cut Express. (The top menus are OK, but no file or sequence titles, effects names, etc, within Final Cut project windows or the like.)
Immediately after the upgrade I was presented with several "Font Conflict" errors claiming that some fonts had to be moved to the trash because they conflicted with system display fonts, and I said yes. The fonts were Helvetica, HelveticaNeue, and a couple of others.
Any ideas of how I can get text back? Thanks!
    -i-

I was able to fix this by restoring my ~/Library/Fonts folder from a backup prior to the 10.6 upgrade. After a restart I once again received the following errors:
"There is a conflict with the _______ font file. This font file contains a font name that conflicts with a system font required by Mac OS X to display onscreen text. You should move this font file to the Trash."
The fonts it said were conflicting: Helvetica, HelveticaNeue.dfont, Lucida Grande, and Monaco.
This time I said "Allow Conflict" on all four dialog boxes and launched Final Cut... everything is back to normal!
Not sure what kind of "conflict" it's referring to, but apparently moving these font files to the trash as OS X prompted me to do broke a number of apps.
Should I report this as a bug?

  • How do i delete .lock video files on my iMac in final cut pro

I'm trying delete video files in Final Cut Pro X but they come with cant delete because of .lock how can i get rid of these?

Click on it, choose Get Info from the File menu, and check the format.
If it's formatted as NTFS, reformat it as MS-DOS, exFAT, or Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as desired.
If it's formatted as FAT32 or exFAT, use the Disk Utility's Repair Disk command on it.
If it's formatted as Mac OS Extended, click Authenticate and provide your administrator password, or change the permissions on that specific folder in its Get Info window.

  • I'm trying to import from an A-to-D converter. Final Cut Pro X won't save my files.

I have a VHS videotape I'm attempting to digitize. The tape is being played on an ordinary VCR, and converted from analogue to digital by a Dazzle* Hollywood DV-Pro conversion box, from where it goes directly into my Mac via FireWire.
Final Cut Pro X recognizes the converter, and displays the video and audio from the VCR. I can attempt a camera import like normal— it asks me into what Event I want to save the captured video, and the import time counter counts up normally. However, once I close the Import window, my imported files have not been saved as Clips! I checked both in FCP and in the Finder— there are no files in the Event I made to store my clips.
Does anyone have any ideas why this could be, and what I can do to try and fix it?

FCP won't work with this device. It requires timecode input when using the tape-based importer, which it isn't getting from the Dazzle.

  • File error - the specified file is locked, Final cut pro

file error - the specified file is locked, Final cut pro

I usually get this when I try to save a project and it isn't stored on my HD(usually external HD or RAID). Sometimes I can do a save as and save it to the desktop.
Sometimes everything is cleared up with a restart. It seems like it is a FCP7/OS developmental need which is mute because 7 is no longer supported by Apple.

  • Final cut proX wont auto save anymore.

While editting final cut pro pops up an error message saying " final cut pro cant save progress" click continue to continue to edit or quit. It does this everytime i try to edit. Please help...

Select the external drive and perform the Get Info command (command-I) on it. The permissions are at the bottom of Get Info (I think in the Sharing section). Does it show Read/Write for your user name?
One quick way to see if permissions is the problem is to just enable "Ignore Ownership". You might need to click the lock icon and enter an administrator username/password to change it. If enabling this option fixes your problem then you do have a permission problem.
