Final Cut Server and FileMaker Pro

Has anyone tried to import FileMaker Pro data into Final Cut Server? I have an FMP database with photos, video and audio files that I'd like to export to Final Cut Server along with the meta data and I'd be interested to hear if anyone has any experience with this.

It needs to be filled with RAM, and when running Pro Apps, in the faster graphics processor mode. Mail, etc. will likely run fine along side them. I'd not play games when rendering though.
When they don't run, they don't affect anything but disk space 60 gigs for it all including Templates... RAM is the key to running multiple apps on any given Mac.
Nice Mac too. I just saw one the other day for the first time. I love that new trackpad the most. It's likely a lot faster than my 2.3 laptop, and I can run all the apps at the same time no problem with it. But ya need to fill up the RAM. I like that it's so green.

  • Final Cut Server and Compressor / Qmaster serial conflict

On my Final Cut Server machine, i have Final Cut Server version 1.1.1. On my Mac Pro i have Final Cut Studio 7. I have installed Compressor and Qmaster on my Final Cut Server from the Final Cut Pro DVD, so i can use Qmaster (the version of Qmaster must match exactly on all machines). But the two serials conflict, Final Cut Server will not start due to the following problem:
"Either the current serial number is not valid or there is another server using the same serial number.
Check the serial number and then stop and start the server using the Final Cut Server Preferences panel."
Of course both serials is completely legit. Is it really true that i either need to downgrade Compressor and Qmaster (FCS will work, but Qmaster will not) or buy FCS 1.5? I have paid lots of money for this setup already, it can't be true that i am forced to update to 1.5.
    Please Apple, a solution?

I have a similar case. Maybe someone knows how to solve it:
We installed Final Cut Server and on the same MacPro we installed Final Cut Studio.
After a while we dedicated this machine to Final Cut server and used the Final Cut Studio license on another nachine.
Now, if I want to change or add a transcode setting in the compressor, I'm getting the error message: 'conflicting serialnumber' or something like it.
So compressor thinks it's still part of th FinalCutStudio installation. But I don't quite understand, because Final Cut Server has its own compressor, isn't it?
How can I solve this without loosing the custom transcode settings I've made in compressor.

  • I am traveling with my macbook pro and I forgot to install final cut express and quicktime pro before I left. How can I in a way download them for free on my laptop from where I am

I am traveling with my macbook pro and I forgot to install final cut express and quicktime pro before I left. How can I in a way download them for free on my laptop from where I am? I need them and don't want naturally to buy them again!!!
    Thank you

Assuming you purchased QT Pro, you can always download it again at no extra charge by logging in to your Apple account.
Regarding FCE, there is no way to download & install the product.  You need an original FCE install disk and your FCE serial number.
Final Cut Pro X (aka FCPX) can be purchased & downloaded from the App Store.

  • Final Cut Server and Mountain Lion

Ok, so I have been trying to get Final Cut Server to work on Mountain Lion Server, and I have been so far following the path that has been set forth here...
    http://krypted.com/mac-os-x/installing-final-cut-server-on-lion-mountain-lion-se rver/
I have gotten through all of the steps except for the last one, which is concerning the "0000_any_80_.conf" file. My problem is, that this file doesn't exist at all on my system. In my /etc/apache2 folder there is no /etc/apache2/sites folder. I don't know what the junk is up with that. Neither the folder or the .conf file exist. I don't know if I'm just stupid or what. Don't know much about setting up apache. But in my Server app, "Websites" is up and running. Final Cut Server is even up and running in the System Preferences. I just have no way to download the client app. Has anyone else had this problem?

    And the file
    /etc/apache2/httpd.conf
    In mountain Lion is
    /Library/Server/Web/Config/apache2/httpd_server_app.conf

  • Final Cut Server and Laptops

We are about to deploy FCS but have a number of editors that work off of their laptops.
I know my editors can look at FCS, but how do they retrieve the information that is stored on the SAN? Are they connected into the SAN through some sort of afp or something?

The clients are connected with the Final Cut Server service, running on a machine which can look at both local/network storages and the SAN. That means, by checking out/caching files, the server application (the user interface you can see) provides you with the files - transfered via the connection you have choosen for your laptop (LAN, WLAN etc.)
To sum it up, it's like that.
SAN Storage -> Mac with Final Cut Server service running <- Client, connected via LAN/WLAN (AFP, SMB whatever...)

  • Final Cut Server and iPad !!!???

Is there a new to use FCS Client on an iPad !???

Actually - there is. We here at factorial are just finishing developing one.
It is called ClipTouch and it is a native iPad application that connects to an unmodified Final Cut Server (requires the latest version). It is designed as a review and approval tool for video clips. It allows searching of assets, viewing of proxies (supporting real timecode), changing of standard metadata (including status), browsing and adding timecode annotations, and archive and restore.
We are currently in beta testing and are still looking for some testers.
If you are interested, please get in touch with us via: [email protected]
Please also include a brief description about where this application would be used/tested by you and what your interest in it is.
    Thanks!

  • Final cut studio and macbook pro

hi i have final cut studio 2 currently installed on my imac, and it kinda slows my general use of the computer
i bought a new macbook pro (the new one with aluminum casing), but its only the base, and i have not upgraded it in any way, so it is as it comes
and basically i was wondering, if i installed the entire final cut studio 2 (and aperture), how would it affect the general speed of the machine when doing other general tasks not FCS related:
    a) while FCS is running
and b) while it is not running
i also want to run games off of my MBP so i really dont want to compromise speed

It needs to be filled with RAM, and when running Pro Apps, in the faster graphics processor mode. Mail, etc. will likely run fine along side them. I'd not play games when rendering though.

  • Question: best Hardware set-up for final cut univ. and mac pro

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has used final cut universal with their mac pro and can recommend a hardware set-up (Processors, memory... ) they found best adapted for it.
    my mac pro:
    Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Total Number Of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz
    thank you
MAC PRO   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Final Cut Studio/video editing requires all four parts of a system…
    1) Processor performance
    2) GPU performance
    3) RAM
    4) Hard drive performance
… to be working in tandem. If any one of these areas a caught short then the system as a whole is disproportionately affected. It's one of the downsides to video is that everything needs to be working as well as it can.
So, what I would recommend for you is the following setup as your goal is something like…
    Mac Pro 2.66GHz
    6GB RAM (4 x 1GB + 4 x 512MB - I'm presumng you already have the 4 x 512MB)
ATi X1900 XT graphics card (or better - depneds on what's available at the time)
2 x Western Digital Raptor 150GB RAID 0 for boot and scratch
2 x Maxtor MaXLine Pro 500GB RAID 0 for data
Any further eSATA storage requirements for cloning, backup and data
    Not cheap but should scream.

  • Final Cut Server and Filters in the browser window

    Hi
we have an issue with a client where they have put some filters in their browser and this is causing problems uploading them to FCSvr.
This doesn't happen to every final cut pro project even though they all have filters in the browser
Has anyone else had any issues with this and are there any ways to make sure all CP projects upload correctly?
    thank you

What specific problems are you encountering?

  • SSD for OS, Final Cut X and Premiere Pro CS6?

We're looking at specs for new iMacs for our upcoming FY13 purchases.  Our install will consist of Mac OS, Office 2011, Final Cut X, Motion, Compressor, CS6 Master Collection.  Our process includes all video production being done using external drives.  I'm trying to decide if the 256GB SSD internal drive option will be sufficient for the install we have in mind.  I know all the software will fit, with plenty of room to spare, and we'd like to take advantage of the increased performance of a SSD boot drive, I'm just a little concerned about the capacity.
Maybe 256GB is perfectly fine since all production will be from and to external storage?
What thoughts or suggestions do you all have?  Thanks.

Using the same media?  Very likely.
Using the same project file?  Possibly, but there could be issues.  PP can both import and export FCP XML files, but it's far from a perfect translation for every possible sequence.

  • Final Cut Server and Panasonic P2 MXF

It is odd that in today's announcement, tech specs and PDF, there is no mention of MXF, P2 or Panasonic cameras. The specs do say it will read XML, but that doesn't mean it will read, display and play the P2 MXF files without import-and-conversion to QuickTime movies first. You would think the Final Cut team would be specific about this.

As far as I know there is really no MXF integration right now. Should be working in some way with the really new MXF for QuickTime component (MXF4QT), but I have not yet tested it. Björn Adamski just wrote an article about the new plug in, you can find it in the FKT magazine (German, no online version available). It allows to open and play MXF files natively just like any other QuickTime clip. It works system wide, also in CoverFlow.
Developers website: www.hamburgproaudio.de (right now no really infos, only for the windows tools.) or www.mxf4mac.com
I am wondering how it works in real life with FCS.

  • Final Cut Server Petition

I have started the above pet it ion at: www.pet it ion online.com (no spaces)
Search for Final Cut Server or FCS. Please sign it, I would love to get this product back.

I'm finding the promotional material confusing. Apparently you do not have simultaneous read-write capabilities, you check out media dn then check it back in. But it can be located anywhere, on any machine, on any server.
Max, are you at NAB and seeing the demos?
This is from the marketing page:
Use Final Cut Server to automatically catalog your media in any format and in any location. Powerful layered search tools let you find any asset fast, whether you’re in the studio or on the road. Browse thumbnails, poster frames, and proxies generated by Final Cut Server in formats you specify.
Final Cut Server extracts and reports industry-standard metadata, including IPTC, XMP, and XML data types, so you won’t have to waste time reentering data. Final Cut Server is a seamless extension of the editing workflow in Final Cut Pro. Drag assets from Final Cut Server to any of the Final Cut Studio applications. Use Final Cut Server to organize Productions—including any combination of Final Cut Pro projects, rough cut sequences, media assets, and production documents. Or create a Final Cut Pro project in Final Cut Server and check it out to begin editing; when you check it back in, the catalog updates automatically.
It all sounds too good to be true.
We use Canto Cumulus to handle our digital still assets (and much more) but it is beyond "too good to be true." Cumulus is a chimera masquerading as a nightmare.

  • Quicktime Export Components in Final Cut Server

Our company has purchased a number of Elgato h264 encoders and we're loving them. They reduce our h264 compression times on average from 15-20 mins down to 2-3 mins. It usually compresses our videos faster than real time. Which as a news organization is great for us. These encoders work great on all our Macbook Pros & Mac Pro systems. I've now installed one onto our final cut server and set up a custom compressor setting. Under the 'encoder' tab the file format had to be set to "Quicktime Export Components" instead of "Quicktime Movie" to use the Elgato. And it works great when I send a single file threw compressor. BUT I can't get this custom preset to show up or work inside Final Cut Server. I have other custom settings that do show up and work (but they are all "Quicktime Movie" file formats). I've rebooted multiple times and looked under multiple Responses transcode settings, but the new one I've created to use the Elgato never shows up.
Is it possible to use Quicktime Export Components in Final Cut Server?
I couldn't find any mention of this in the FCS admin manual or any other posts in the forums regarding this.

I have seen on MediaSilo.com a tip to get Elgato H.264 working with Compressor, but I can't seem to be able to find it. Basically, the trick was to create a duplicate setting in Compressor that Final Cut Server is able to read ( not as Quicktime Export Component), associate it with a Final Cut Server's compression setting and later reassign that setting in Compressor to Elgato.
I will keep diggin' for this tip, it was actually a screen recording.

  • Open Source Final Cut Server

It would make sense to open source Final Cut Server instead of discontinuing it. Many depend on it and have massive asset libraries and workflows that will not be moving any time and need support. QuickTime/Darwin Streaming Server is open source and thriving. Final Cut Server should be given that chance as it still has many uses and a lot of potential in areas that Apple hasn't explored.
Apple please give back to community of loyal users and pro's around the world by open sourcing Final Cut Server and not letting it sit on the shelf like Shake collecting dust when it could be so much more!

I agree with this. We have invested too much to simply abandon our infrastructure and explore other options. Open source would be in everyone's best interest. I encourage you to visit the FCSvr feedback page and recommend this. http://www.apple.com/feedback/finalcutserver.html. Please be constructive - there has been enough temper tantrums and gripes about FCSvr being killed and the new way the FCPX works.  Please be detailed about how you use FCSvr, any customization you've done, especially if they involve using the command line tools and scripting in any form. I personally have invested countless hours pouring over bash scripts, scouring the 43 "px" tables in the postgres database looking for ways to improve our setup, and writing libraries of functions to make scripting easy. I figured out how to customize our distribution to make it do what we need it to do, to serve our business and our clients. If the road ends here, was that all for nothing? FCSvr is a great product. I know that it doesn't jive with FCPX new ways of thinking. I know FCPX has range keywording and metadata capabilities. But what of a notification system? What of a transcoding server? What of subscription/responses triggering actions like archiving to tape? What about support for changing metadata with third party solutions? What about publishing the catalog to online services like MediaSilo? There are countless functions that have become part of the workflow of professional production companies. FCSvr has totally changed the way we work and think about our assets. I was just beginning to get somewhere with our producers and editors, and I really don't want to stop now. Open sourcing FCSvr would give developers the opportunity to write their own modules for FCSvr, we could see support for all kinds of functionality. It's not going to happen though if you don't tell them you need it.  Send your feedback using the feedback page. Talk to the vendor you bought FCSvr from or the person who installed it in your organization and encourage them to have this discussion with the people at Apple who can make a difference. Please take action, don't just gripe and make broad stroke suggestions here on the forum. Thanks for your time.
