Final Cut shuts down on new Mac Pro

Hi all,
We've got a new Mac Pro: 3 GHz dual core, 9 GBs of RAM. We've installed Final Cut Pro 5 (via the universal crossgrade and Studio Upgrade).
When Final Cut is opened the preview and program windows are green and will not show video. If Final Cut is shut down then re-opened Final Cut crashes on opening. We've been on the phone with Apple Tech support and the last action they suggested was reinstalling OS X, then re-installing Final Cut Pro. We've done so, and have the same problem.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Thanks much in advance,
Joey

Let's look at the crash log... When you crash, you get the option of Reporting to Apple? Take that and copy this section of the log:

That's the kinda thing we need...But only the crashed section, not the entire log - like the example above. Do not post the entire log. Also, you can check the console log (/Applications/Utilities/Console.app) for any messages...

  • Re installing Final Cut Studio on my NEW Mac pro?

I originally purchased Final Cut Studio (on a G5 Power PC), Then installed the universal crossgrade,
then installed Final Cut Studio 2. Now I have a New Mac Pro (Intel Chips) How do I go about
reinstalling FCS? do I need the original serial key from the first version or do I just use my
    FCS 2 serial Key?
    J>H<L

    J>H<L
You'll need both keys, but you only have to do one installation.
The FCS2 installer will ask for the FCS2 key. If that passes, another window will open asking for the FCS key. If that key passes, then it's just a normal installation.

  • Final Cut 5.1 on new Mac Pro

Ok here is something odd that has happened to me with my Final Cut Studio 5.1. When i purchased my new Mac Pro system i used Migration Assistant to transfer all of my files and applications from my old PowerBook G4. A Mac Genius that i work with told me that this would transfer my Final Cut Studio and Pro Apps thus saving me time from installing them over again.
It did transfer all of the programs, but Motion and DVD Studio Pro and Compressor will not start up. Final Cut Pro, LiveType and Cinema Tools all load and run perfectly. I uninstalled the entire setup and re-installed my studio package again and the same problem. No load of Motion and DVD Studio Pro or Compressor.
Any ideas as to what might be the problem and what i can do to fix it?
    Thanks in advance.

oh man ... one of the nicest things about getting a new machine is that you have to reload all your software, and so one only loads what one really needs and none of that other useless crap that always manages to find its way onto the system ... there is nothing so nice as a clean install!

  • Cannot install Final Cut Studio 7 on new Mac Pro

I've just purchased Final Cut Studio 7 (Academic edition) for my Mac Pro (brand new G4 running 10.6.2), and it refuses to install. When I start the download package I get an Alert:
"Final Cut Studio Installer requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card."
and just quits. I looked on the specs online (http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs/) and it states that I need
"ATI or NVIDIA graphics processor (integrated Intel graphics processors not supported)"
I have 2 NVIDIA graphics cards, both GeForce GT 120. Are these not Quartz Extreme capable video cards?

First of all you don't have a G4. A G4 is an obsolete computer that doesn't run Final Cut Studio.

  • FInal Cut Shutting Down

Can someone tell my why Final Cut shuts down without warning. I've tried working on it multiple times this evening and it shuts down.

You can try the usual, delete preferences, you can do it manually (FCP 7):
Go to your Home directory then inside it to: Library > Preferences
    Drag com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist to the trash
Scroll down to the Final Cut Pro User Data folder
Drag Final Cut Pro 7.0 Prefs to the trash
Drag Final Cut Pro Obj Cache to the trash
Drag Final Cut Pro Prof Cache to the trash
    Empty the trash

  • Final Cut  4.5 on a Mac Pro

    Hi guys,
New here. I've been using my FCP 4.5 on an old G4 for ages and now am installing it on my new Mac Pro OS X Leopard.
Installed okay - but getting message that I need a Power Mac G4/350 and a AGP card.
How do I get over this?
    Love you all
    Keith

I'm unsure if Apple agrees with the method used in the below link, however, it worked for me with a 1.83 GHz Mac Mini.
    http://macosx.com/forums/mac-os-x-system-mac-software/265936-final-cut-pro-asks- agp-card-startup.html
It seems to work ok and for 2 minutes of time, it's worth a try before springing for the new version.

  • Final cut 5.1.2 and mac pro crashes when rendering

i have just switched to the new mac pro and have all the new and latest updates and i'm running the final cut crossgrade.when i select a sequence to be rendered and select render all and both it gets to about 50% and final cut crashes.is anyone having the same problem?

I don't know if it is a trend or a series of isolated system specific issues but, in the last few days I've been reading here on the forum of a number of problems posted by users of the new MacPros. The only thing that seems to connect them is; the problems seem intermittent and when subjected to a testing methodology, do not reappear.
With the available information there is no way to say whether they are the result of user and/or workflow error, minimally compromised material, random system nonsense or what .... but, I remember a series of similar issues (Macs NEVER have problems ...) with the then new G5 2.7ghz machines. Perhaps they were just over-clocked and were not stable but that relationship has me wondering.
I haven't been tracking whether these random issues show up with the 2.66 or 3.0 pros but it might bear watching.

  • Final Cut Express 2 on new Mac Book Pro

I recently got a MacBook Pro and loaded Final Cut Express 2 on there but it says it needs an AGP Graphics Card to work. Any info on this? Thanks.
Mac Book Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hi Rupert.
You will probably find that FCE2 works slower than it should.
You really need to upgrade to FCE3.5 ($99 US / £65 UK) which is designed for maximum performance on your MBP.
It is also a much more advanced program and contains the mind-blowing LiveType and Soundtrack which alone are worth the upgrade fee.
For a permanent solution (for FCE2) to stop the error message ever appearing again you can use this hack:-
    1. Right click (Control-click) on the FCE application icon (NOT the one in the dock) and select "Show Package Contents".
    2. Open the "Contents" folder and double click the "info .plist". It should open automatically in TextEdit - if it doesn't, choose TextEdit manually.
    3. Around 15 or so lines down you will see AGP. Delete it and put in PCI.
    4. Close the window and when asked if you want to save the changes, say yes.
    Ian.

  • Final cut studio 3 and my mac pro major and unnecessary issues

just a heads up, sorry for my grammar, I have been using final cut pro since it was 3.0 on my old g4 upgraded to every version since. ive edited on final cut pro ruffly 40 hours+ per week since. now i just upgraded to final cut studio 3 about 2 weeks ago and ive been having major issues with speed and freezing and rendering and the new sharing features and motion and everything.
    lets start from the beginning.
i have a mac pro 1,1 with dual core intel xeon 2.66 ghz
    7 gb of ram
osx 10.5.8 (cant upgrade to snow leopard just yet due to sxs problems and heard its even slower)
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT (thinking may be the culprit)
i have 2 monitors one 22" and my main 24" running both through a dvi cable
now the first hour i started working the computer froze up completely, mouse frozen and everything
(never happened before) after a day of unexpected quits and constant restarts i disconnected my second monitor.
im still having the speed problems sometimes even seeing scrambled images for icons on my os dock. i dont know what to do. ill leave something to render over night, wake up and check on it and the program quit. again. i have a deadline on a video coming very quick, and ive been searching this issue on all the discussion boards here and creative cow and haven't seen an answer yet. spoke to customer support early in the issue and tried everything they said ie: new user, different drive, yada yada yada. the only thing i havent done is reinstall osx and flush my whole computer. im definatly not prepared to do so and then still have the problem. anyway. if anyone can get through this runon of a post please please help im despreate. let me know if you need anymore info and ill be glad to provide it, and if anyone that helps lives in the ny area i would be honored to buy you a drink in return for your support.
    thanks for your time.

HOW did you upgrade? Install FCS 3 on top of FCS 2? That is not the best way to do it. Plus some of the issues you are having seem like OS issues. The best thing to do is the "scorched Earth" approach. Fresh install of the OS and fresh install of FCS 3. Always when upgrading this is the best method. And the make sure that you can go back if things don't work is to get a NEW hard drive, install the OS and FCS3 on that, and keep the old drive. Or clone your hard drive (carbon copy cloner), then erase and install. Or at least clone your drive before you update what you have (which is not the best way).
Too late now, I know, but file that away for the future. Now you should backup all your data, then erase and install Leopard again, then install your Apps. This will take a day, maybe a day and a half, and then you will be up and running. Better than trying to stuggle for days or weeks with a staggering OS.

  • Final Cut shuts down when I try to stop logging and capturing

Ok, so I know whoever answers will need more technical specifics but for now this is the deal. I have been trying to import footage from a DV camera into final cut and once I try and stop the camera or when I press 'esc' final cut unexpectedly shuts down. Any idea what's wrong? Thanks!

Computer is a Macbook Pro, Version 10.4.11. Drive is a G-Tech - G-Drive 500 GB and I use a Firewire 400 when I connect it to my computer though I import straight into the computer from the camera with a firewire. Camera is a Panasonic AG-DVX100. I have Quicktime 7.6.4. My Final Cut Pro is 6.0.5. My capture preset is DV NTSC 48kHz. Device control preset is Firewire NTSC. Vid rate is 24fps, compressor info is DV/DVCPRO - NTSC and Data Rate is 2.9 MB/sec Not sure if I've given you enough information. I also have a report from when it crashed if it helps any. Thank you.

  • Opening Final Cut Studio 3 Projects on Mac Pro (Snow Leopard) & MacBook Pro (Lion)

    Hi Everyone,
Right i've been trawling the forums in regards to Lion's compatibility with Final Cut Studio 3. There seemed to be a mixed bag of reports, some running FCP fine on Lion, others having issues.
For this reason alone I decided to keep my main editing system, my Mac Pro, running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and not upgrade to Lion.
More and more frequently i've thought I need to get myself a MacBook Pro, for data wrangling on location and for some cheeky edit sessions when i'm away on jobs.
The thing is, all new MacBook Pros ship with Lion as their OS.
My question is twofold really. Firstly, I've read that Final Cut Studio 3 installs and runs fine on Lion systems, can anyone confirm this?
Secondly, do any of you know if i'll be able to swap between, and freely work on projects across the two different systems, namely a Mac Pro running Snow Leopard and a MacBook Pro running Lion? is this an issue at all?
The last thing I want to do is spend three grand on a MacBook and then realise I have issues opening or working on projects from my MacPro (or vise-vesa)
As ever, your help would be greatly appreciated...
    Thanks in advance,
    Scott

I've read that Final Cut Studio 3 installs and runs fine on Lion systems, can anyone confirm this?
Yes, FCS 3 installs and runs without issue on my Lion system.
There are a couple of careats however  with the primary one being  DO A CLEAN INSTALL OF THE OS AND THE APPS. Upgrade installs over major version changes are problematic.
do any of you know if i'll be able to swap between, and freely work on projects across the two different systems, namely a Mac Pro running Snow Leopard and a MacBook Pro running Lion? is this an issue at all?
Again, not an issue in my world.

  • Cant install final cut studio on my new mac

    hello everybody,
i recently bought a new MacBook Pro ( best 15" model available only because of final cut!). I had final cut (7) on my old MacBook. I synchronized the 2 computers but a i had to reinstall view programs (Aperture, Adobe…- it worked normally).
Here comes the thing. I tried to reinstall final cut studio. It didn't work. I downloaded an uninstaller. It didn't work. I searched the whole library for files that are still there and may block the reinstallation. There were some but after deleting them it still didn't work either.
The error is not known or at least not shown. The installation program just tells me that an error occurred.
My feelings are a mixture of dosserpointment and anger, because this program was the main reason why i bought my 3.000€ mac!
Pleease help me… You are my last chance… any hint could help me

Syncing could be the issue because of licensing or the installer thinking there is some sort of licensing conflict. If Digital Rebellion's FCS unistaller isn't doing the job you only have a few options.
    1) Removing everything manually - This can be done but it isn't for the novice.
    2) Complete reinstall(presuming you have all of your discs) - Make a disc image of your HD to another drive and then do a clean install. A clean install would be recommended even if you were just upgrading from FCS2 to 3.

  • Final Cut 4.5 and New MacBook Pro

I've been out of the loop for a while. I had a 1.5ghz Powerbook and Final Cut HD, etc. I recently bought a new MacBook Pro and was suprised to see that I could not open Final Cut Pro anymore (says I don't have an AGP card). What're my options? Thanks

You need the Intel version of FCS, which is version 2.
Should run you about $499.00 when it ships next month.
Apple has an inexpensive upgrade available for nearly fifteen months and was promptly displayed at its web site.
    That expires on March 19th.
It pays to stay in the loop I guess.
    I'm less patient than Jim.

  • Too Much RAM causing shut down? (2008 Mac Pro)

I've got an older 2008,  Mac Pro with an OWC SDD as my main drive running the latest version of Snow Leopard.
In the last several months I've been experiencing problems where the system will shut down (screen says it has gone to sleep and I cannot wake it) but the tiny white power light on the front of the computer stays "on".
The only way I have been able to get it to turn back on, is to power down holding the power button in, until the white light goes off. When i power back on, some times it will boot to the desktop, and other times, it will just get to the grey Apple logo and instantly go into sleep/ hibernation, etc (I'm not sure what it's doing).
Things I've tried to resolve the problem:
    - Permissions repair (no problem) - using Drive Genius
    - Disk repair (no problem) - using Drive Genius
    - Uninstalled (or not installed) any of my typical post-reformat software
    - Replaced RAM
    - Replaced RAM riser
    - Reset PRAM, (and other similarly suggested fixes)
    - Disconnected everything except keyboard, mouse and monitor
At one point I went through all of my ram, tested it all and all passed using software similar to those recommended elsewhere in other Apple discussions
I once removed some ram from the bottom riser (hunting and pecking here) and this allowed me to boot. (I have had as much as 16GB of Apple approved ram across each riser, inserted into each dim slot as recommended by Apple.
Could this be a drive problem? I am using an OWC3gb SSD
Could it be a power supply problem?
The system is clean, and dust free. The system runs cool (within the recommened guidelines)
Is there something I might try that I haven't mentioned here?
    Thank you so much.
