FInal Cut Shutting Down

Can someone tell my why Final Cut shuts down without warning. I've tried working on it multiple times this evening and it shuts down.

You can try the usual, delete preferences, you can do it manually (FCP 7):
Go to your Home directory then inside it to: Library > Preferences
Drag com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist to the trash
Scroll down to the Final Cut Pro User Data folder
Drag Final Cut Pro 7.0 Prefs to the trash
Drag Final Cut Pro Obj Cache to the trash
Drag Final Cut Pro Prof Cache to the trash
Empty the trash

Final Cut shuts down when I try to stop logging and capturing

Ok, so I know whoever answers will need more technical specifics but for now this is the deal. I have been trying to import footage from a DV camera into final cut and once I try and stop the camera or when I press 'esc' final cut unexpectedly shuts down. Any idea what's wrong? Thanks!

Computer is a Macbook Pro, Version 10.4.11. Drive is a G-Tech - G-Drive 500 GB and I use a Firewire 400 when I connect it to my computer though I import straight into the computer from the camera with a firewire. Camera is a Panasonic AG-DVX100. I have Quicktime 7.6.4. My Final Cut Pro is 6.0.5. My capture preset is DV NTSC 48kHz. Device control preset is Firewire NTSC. Vid rate is 24fps, compressor info is DV/DVCPRO - NTSC and Data Rate is 2.9 MB/sec Not sure if I've given you enough information. I also have a report from when it crashed if it helps any. Final Cut shuts down on new Mac Pro

Hi all,
We've got a new Mac Pro: 3 GHz dual core, 9 GBs of RAM. We've installed Final Cut Pro 5 (via the universal crossgrade and Studio Upgrade).
When Final Cut is opened the preview and program windows are green and will not show video. If Final Cut is shut down then re-opened Final Cut crashes on opening. We've been on the phone with Apple Tech support and the last action they suggested was reinstalling OS X, then re-installing Final Cut Pro. We've done so, and have the same problem.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

Let's look at the crash log... When you crash, you get the option of Reporting to Apple? Take that and copy this section of the log:

That's the kinda thing we need...But only the crashed section, not the entire log - like the example above. Do not post the entire log. Also, you can check the console log (/Applications/Utilities/Console.app) for any messages...

Although there are probably several people who can decypher the error log info you posted, I'm not one of them...
First, I always repair permissions if something in FCS starts acting up. Then I'd dig into the Autosave Vault and pull out the latest version of the project available and restart it to see if the crash was a fluke or if something is broken. From there, the questions become clearer and the answers are easier.

Rip Audio From Final Cut Express

Is it possible to rip audio from an MPEG Video in Final Cut Express and save a copy of JUST the audio file as .mp3? I know you can do this with QT Pro, but I'm going to be getting Final Cut Express down the road and I need to be able to do this. So I will just get FCE now if it can perform this function and not waste money on QT Pro.

Well, there's all kinds of flavors of 'MPEG Video' out there, knowing what you're using would help.
QuickTime Pro can do this, and it's not a waste of $20 to get it.
You can also use MPEG Streamclip to extract the audio to AIFF, then use iTunes to convert to MP3 if that's what you really want.

Difficulty importing Video from camera to either iMovie or Final Cut Exp

Hi I am looking for some advice on importing film to imovie or final cut express. I was able to hook up the Canon HD camera to the my new Macbook Pro and import a game film to both iMovie and final Cut express last week. This week same camera and the movie runs but Imovie and Final Cut shut off almost immediately or if I use manual setting the video runs but nothing is captured?
I have thought that I may have changed settings on the camera but I do not actually do the filming. We have been able to download continuously to an older Mac using a newer camera from the same manufacturer Canon also HD.

Your camcorder must be set to the correct output mode. On some camcorders, this is called VTR or VCR mode, but not all camcorders use the same terminology, so check the documentation that came with your device. On some camcorders you must set the output to DV mode or HDV mode, depending on whether the content is standard (DV) or high definition (HDV).
If all was working correctly I would unplug everything (camcorder wise) and clean out you plist and caches. See http://uimfaq.us/b3aANe then give it another go.

Final Cut lags when external video is turned on

I have an AJA IOhd hooked to my final cut setup. When I turn the external video to "all Frames", my final cut slows down alot and the video in the monitor plays in slow motion. Any ideas? Let me know if you need more info.

Apparently something was up with my monitor connection. It was pushed in all the way, but when i took it out and put it back in the problem was fixed.

I finished adding my transtions to my timeline. I was having crashing issues so I shut down everything before I rendered the project and now it tells me that the project is unreadable or the file is too new for this version of final cut. What Happened?

What Happened?
No way for us to know. But if your system was crashing, there definitely was a problem. The FCE error message you got normally indicates the FCE project file has been corrupted. This probably happened due to whatever caused your system to crash & shutting down the system.
First, make sure your system is running correctly. Then, use the Finder to navigate to /users/yourusername/Documents/Final Cut Express Documents/Autosave Vault and find the most recent backup copy of your FCE project file. Copy the file to your Final Cut Express Documents folder (copy the file, don't just move it). Then double-click the copy to open it in FCE. It should open ok, but will probably not have your most recent edits (transitions). You may have to rebuild the transitions, but at least you will be back in action.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean by stuck in Dock.
You reboot your Mac. Is FCP trying to open automatically (the icon bouncing)? Or is it just visible in the Dock?

Final Cut Pro 7 shuts down after installing OSX 10.8

Recently upgraded to OSX 10.8. Initially Final Cut Pro 7 was working but then suddenly crashed. All it does is runs through scripts like its opening but then shuts down.
I thought it was a problem with disc space so I cleared my hard drive. This did not help.
I tried to troubleshoot but could not find the things the troubleshooter mentioned: ~/Library/Preferences; com.apple.finalcutpro.plist; Final Cut Pro User Data; /Library/Receipts; FinalCutPro.pkg.
Tried uninstall/reinstall but I still have same problem. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks!

Thanks... I just figured out how to do the repair disk, but unfortunately not solve my problem. So my next step is doing a clean install of my OS. I'm currently using Time Machine to backup my computer just in case I run into any issues. So I've never done this before and I'm not very computer savvy AT ALL. lol
So I want to make sure I understand things correctly before actually doing it. Essentially I will go to Disk Utility and erase the drive? I'm guessing then restart the computer? Will I be able to open up the App store to get my OSX10.8 reinstalled?

Opening log and capture shuts down final cut pro

Hi, I am using final cut pro 5.1 and when I open my log and capture window, the final cut pro instantly shuts down. I just upgraded to 10.4.10. Would that be the problem?
Also, now it doesn't pick up my deck connection via firewire to my sony dsr-11 pal deck.
Everything was working fine before.
any advice?

Have you updated all the way to FCP 5.1.4? (or the latest version of 5.1)?
Also, after a system update, trashing the FCP Prefs can usually help out any instability. FCP Rescue makes that nice and easy.

Final Cut Express Shuts Down on Lanuch

I've been trying to get Final Cut Express to work with Leopard since I bought Leopard a few weeks back. Even with the update tonight, it still shuts down unexpectedly. Any ideas?

Did you do a clean erase and install of the new operating system? How did you get to Leopard? If you just did an archive and install or a simple upgrade it most likely will not work properly. I have been using FCE and FCP with Leopard since it was released and have not found a significant problem in the applications, other than those that were already there.

Final cut X 10.4.1 is shutting down immedately after opening.

I have a Mac book pro 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3. When i open Final cut X 10.4.1 it closes immediately and goes to straight to the Final Cut X shut down unexpectedly and shows me information that I am not familar with. Any suggestions..I have a important deadline today.

Final Cut Express Shuts down right after capturing

Hello all:
I am using FCE 3.5. I have used this for about a year now and I have developed a problem with FCE shutting down right after I hit escape. I run a lab for a university and it is doing it on ALL of them so it isn't an isolated incident. I repair permissions, reset the PRAM, trashed the prefs and I don't know what else to do.
I am running imac G5's using 10.4.11 and the new imacs running leopard. Both sets are doing it.
Any help would be appreciated since our classes start soon.

Can you tie the crashes to a recent event: a software update, a new piece of hardware? What else is connected to the computers?
(You have, of course, triple-checked that the FCE Easy Setup matches the footage you're capturing, yes?)
After the program crashes, is the captured footage saved?
What's the lab setup? Does each student have an individual user account? On each computer?
Lots of questions, I know...
Here's a suggestion:
Use Disk Utility to repair permissions. Create a new admin account on one computer. Set the FCE Scratch Disk to the internal drive. Disconnect everything but the camera. Try to capture. See what happens.

Final Cut Pro shuts down/crashes at launch

I never had problems launching Final Cut before. I haven't touched it for about a month, I tried to launch it today. It runs through the splash page where its loading the program -- asks me where my External A/V device is if it's not on -- then I either turn it on and click 'check again' or just click 'continue' either way it finishes loading and the splash screen disappears... then nothing. Final Cut just doesn't launch. I have no idea what's wrong, I would really appreciate help on this, I can't do anything right now

First, it's always a mistake to do any updates to your system regardless of whether they have anything to do with fcp UNLESS you have backed up your system startup drive using a cloning utility. This will allow you to quickly restore your system to it's working state if something goes south.
